While the bootloader of many g5 devices is not allowed to be unlocked (no official way) LG releases the source code for the kernel of those devices.
Is that even useful?
How can we even compile and use a custom kernel while we are allowed to flash one?

Here is a little something to think about. Why does LG supply us the source code for the P760, P765, P768, and P769 variants of our phone but doesnt allow us to unlock the bootloader to apply changes we want to the kernel and the android build itself? Are they supplying the code just to taunt us and say hey we are open source but really arent? Ask LG why they are supplying open source code for our phone and not being open source by unlocking the bootloader. Hope you all have a great weekend!
??? What about drivers for components? Are they open source? Are they all LG's property? Think about that! BTW,this is the second phone I own with TI chip and (permanently - p769) locked bootloader (the first was Motorola Milestone - never unlocked).

Hello! (Warning: n00b)
I just rooted my LG K7 with Kingroot, and was disappointed to not find a custom rom for it. I was just wondering, can stock android be used without any modifications, just compiled and flashed to a phone? I couldn't find anything on this.
Thanks all
Nope. LG would have to release the source code and a developer would have to take interest in it to compile AOSP and merge the drivers and such from the LG source code. Chances of that happening are almost nil. The G4/G5 etc are much more popular and they don't even have decent versions of stock android and some variants don't have anything beyond stock LG based mods.

That sucks. Thanks for the info!
Does Xiaomi haven't released any associated codes for camera, IR, etc.
I have heard about source code been released but no developer support IR/Camera in custom rom, why is that?
We need to ask directly to xiaomi. I have no idea why they haven't released that.
In the past I would take it for granted that a device associated with XDA would come with an unlocked or unlockable boot loader and that the ROM, kernel and source for both the LineageOS and Ubuntu builds would be made available so that owners could try out both or mix their own. Being today's XDA and since I've not seen mention of it anywhere I have to ask whether an unlocked bootloader and fully open ROMS are part of the plan or are there steps in motion to lock people into the OS they choose at time of purchase?
So this is my very first attempt in any kind of android development. I have here my phone's official kernel source. I was wondering if I can build this to boot or if it's ready for building.
Also this phone is bootloader locked and there's no official or unofficial way to unlock it.
So what can I do with the source or the boot image ?
I figured a way to get root access using the source code. I am still working on it tho and need help
