I've been using the RS988 G5 on Verizon since last month (that BHPhoto had on sale for $399, due to my old Note 4 DE having issues). For the price, it is a good phone, but I'm not liking the fact that it appears LG will not be upgrading it to Nougat, leaving it on 6.0.1 with months old security patch.
At this point, I'm not sure if I should just keep it for now and wait and see how the new phones are this year (G6, S8, Note 8, V30), or return it while I still can to BHPhoto and pick up something else. I could go with something used on Swappa (such as the Verizon branded G5 or V20 that both have 7.0) for around the same $400 or slightly more.
I'm so frustrated as you are... i live in argentina and a friend of mine brought me from this variant instead of a H850/830 as i requested but is such a good phone, i can't really complain
It's like a forgotten variant... i wonder if LG itselft knows it exists
Recieved the update

Is this notification actually for Nougat, or perhaps for just a more current security update? The size seems too small for the Nougat update is why I ask.
Update: I just downloaded and installed the 554.17MB update and it was the latest security update (2017-01-01) in s/w version RS98811d. Maybe Nougat will come in the next weeks/months.
I'm downloading the "d" firmware, but really slow even with my 175Mbps Comcast connection, so not sure where the LG Software Update Server is.
Too bad it still isn't Android Nougat, but at least it is the Jan 2017 security update. So there is still hope I guess.
Update:
Finished the download and install. Visually, can see no difference from the "c" version.
Sorry

Sorry i was excited...bur after installing i came to know that it was a security update
It looks like there is a RS988 Nougat Source Code listed here:
http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=NAME&search=lgrs988
But at the start of May, I'm doubtful we'll ever get it.
I had thought about going with the unlocked G6, but not any more, as LG is pretty bad about updates on their Unlocked devices.
I have read somewhere that they told a consumer that the RS988 would be updated in May, seeing the source code is a good sign I guess

I downloaded the source code, and the date on the files are from Feb 2017. So I guess there is still hope.
LG Replies (So Far)
I decided to periodically email LG about the Nougat update. My first email received this reply:
<<LG>>
Good day! Thank you for getting in touch with LG Email Services and letting us know about your concern. It’s our pleasure to assist you with your inquiry!
As far as we know and according to the list of updates we found on the following page, there has been an update for the RS988 phone model to Nougat 7.0 that was released this past 24th of March.
Software Updates are generally pushed into devices by the carriers or service providers (e.g. US Cellular, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) that phones are locked with over-the-air (OTA). Factory unlocked phones have no connections to these updates and receive updates through LG via OTA or a software update tool instead.
If you haven't received any notifications about recent software updates on your phone, please try to check for and download the latest update for your unlocked phone via the LG Bridge application. You may download and use this application on a computer from the following page.
Please follow the step-by-step instructions under the ‘PC Sync’ section of the page above.
<</LG>>
My 2nd email brought this response:
<<LG>>
According to the information that we got from our product specialists, unlocked phones should receive an update from LG Over-The-Air once available for the unit. LG OTA updates for unlocked phones have to pass through multiple Quality Checks for several carrier networks or service providers before their release so it takes a considerable amount of time in between releases compared to phones locked with a specific carrier.
Should you require further assistance or for any other concerns, please do not hesitate to email us back. We’re more than happy to help you the best we can.
Feel free to contact us also via Live Chat or Phone by dialing 1-800-793-8896.

/phandroid.com/2017/05/03/unlocked-lg-g6-android-nougat-update-us/ came across this today. I'm looking at buying this phone (LG rs988) can anyone confirm they have the update?

I have the unlocked rs988 and have not yet received the update yet. I checked on the phone and on lg bridge.
Checking every couple of hours will update here if the nougat update ever shows up. ?

Yes its Nougat with Android Security Patch Level of March 01, 2017.
When I updated using the LG Flash Tool, it had to reformat the partitions (user, system ...). Therefore I lost my old data.
I backed up my data before upgrading. Will try to restore using the LG backup tool and report back later.
Don't you need the rs988 dll file to flash. If so where did you find it

I used the LG Update tool from the link below.
Selected the upgrade radio button, followed by the kdz file and let the installation go through.
Again please backup as your data might be lost after the upgrade. To be on the safe side please remove sd card too.

This worked fine for me. I'm not the owner of any these files hence I cannot take responsibility if anything goes wrong. Please use it at your own risk
everything seems to be working had to factory reset like you said but just glad to finally have Nougat. Thanks

I guess the April upload is the Nougat one.
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/
I've been checking my G5 RS988 every day, and still no OTA Nougat update on it. I'd rather go that route as it (should) keep system data & apps in place, instead of doing the update via the LG Software which wipes/formats user data & apps.
I am on verizon and I can confirm the RS98810h_01_0303.kdz from lg-firmwares.com works on my RS988. I performed a backup and update with the tools and drivers provided in AUTOPrimes post linked below. Once I updated the device, I simply loaded the backup tool and restored my device, sms and apps appeared right back to the state they were before. My only question is that the firmware is listed as BPT (brightpoint), will this still include the same bands listed under the unbranded USA rs988?

Hello, any notice on when is it going to be Nougat available on the Lg g5 se?
Or it will never come?
Greetings
I checked the LG Bridge and got a 1.59GB update this morning - was super excited it was going to be 7.0 but after it finished, all it was was camera enhancements (and I think Feb 17 security update - all though it wasn't listed) - a big file and it ends up being a let-down. My LG G5 se remains on 6.0.1 I have to say, LG are pretty useless with updates (especially OTA) - My Moto Z and Sony X both got 7.0 weeks/months ago. BTW i'm in the UK

Hello! Im going to give it a try right now just to see if i have it available to download. I bought this device in the Czech Republic.
May I tell you that last week I called via Skype to LG USA and asked for the status of the update and the operator ( in a very tired way or sound) told me that updates for G5/G5se are now availabe, but it doesn't seem to be right by the moment.
And one last thing, please: Could you tell me the software version you have? Mine is V10a-234-30
Greetings
EDIT: As of 03/05/2017 Lg bridge says that this update is to improve camera functionality before updating
same number but v10b. would take whatever LG say with a pinch of salt, think the G5 has been updated but not the se. I've never received an ota from LG, always through LG bridge

Yeah, you're right. I have now updated the device and it says v10b... besides from that I actually consider that the camera app or the camera itself are the same as in the previous version, didn't see any changes at all except from the android security thing.

Its what i said above
yesterday also get this security patch for 6.0x, but it was much smaller - aprox 450MB(patch itself from 22/02/2017, while security patch from 1/02/2017) - 2 weeks to deploy it to end users, and 3 weeks for build/internal tests.
with such speed I don't expect 7.0 in next month or two
After the last patch via lg bridge i guess the battery now is a little better in terms of active screen time.
But we still lose much in standby mode.
After little research i made ..Guys, i guess no european h840 lg5se models exist yet.. they are all for latino american market?? So we can flash any nougat rom on our devices released in South America ?? Im not sure just my thoughts

it's was only one issue with American ROM - it was possible to lost warranty in EU with such firmware.
but since Yesterday(2017/03/09) on LG firmware present EU/UK H84010b_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0222.kdz firmware - it was mention on begin of this topic, so it's possible to return to original region
it's a bit off-topic, but Google Assistant appear on H840 even on Android 6.0 (but only in English language).

I have the same version as you. Do i need to change the device's language?
Update: I'm returning it and went to T-Mobile and got a V521.
Recently with T-Mobile's free line promo I got myself a free line. I picked up an unlocked V520/G Pad X 8.0 (AT&T model). Popped the Tmo sim in and it works great. However, it won't show an OTA update for Nougat, LG Bridge just gives "cannot get software version" errors, and as far as I can tell there is no where to find a KDZ file for the AT&T variant. Confirmed AT&T blocks updates on unlocked devices without AT&T SIM cards.
When I had Nexus devices, I didn't have too many problems flashing variants of stock ROMs while using on T-Mo, anyone successfully flashed the V521 update on the V520 variant? Not really worried about unlocking the bootloader or getting root, just want to be on the latest software -- mine is on a security update from June 2016.
edit: Any ideas on where to get stock AT&T firmware?

What's the magic to get this to update? I have a V520 new out of the box off eBay and I haven't tampered with it (haven't unlocked bootloader, rooted it, etc)... but it's on android 6.0.1 - how does one get this to update to android 7.0?
I'll take a link to that kdz file too, if you'd be so kind! Not sure if I can force the tablet to install that manually, but it's worth a try.
I just received this tablet (Unlocked) and having the same issue. It does not have Nougat OTA update, neither Update can be detected by LG Air Bridge Software. I'll really appreciate if someone can link me to the Nougat file.
Check updates using an AT&T SIM. A user in Slickdeals has reported success - sorry can't post the link - new user here.
Update: I myself tried using AT&T Go phone and it worked.

I also had success yesterday. But even after inserting the sim, it wasn't showing. So I called AT&T tech support, provided the IEMI number and they pushed it instantly.
I also got the LG V520 off ebay. I read in an ATT support forum that it was necessary to have an ATT sim card in the tablet or it will not be able to connect to the update server. The same forum suggested to bring the tablet to an ATT store or the Samsung Experience in a Bestbuy.
I can verify that it is not enough to simply to connect to the ATT wifi in the store, you do actually need to insert an ATT sim. It took some convincing to get the person at the ATT store to pull a sim card from a demo phone to let me try. Here are some tips:
-- The tablet will only allow you to check for an update once every 24 hours. Make sure that you don't check for an update 24hours before going to the store, or once you're there, do a factory reset in order to do the update check.
-- Go to the store when they aren't too busy so they are more willing to help out.
-- Once the tablet detects that there is an update available, you can shut down the tablet and replace with your own sim card. You can then connect to any WIFI connection to finish the update.
Changes in the Nougat ROM:
-- When you create a second profile, it can now enable "install from unknown sources", but there is still no access to the external SD card. It means that the secondary profile can only use the internal memory.
-- ATT pulled the "WIFI Hotspot" feature out of the Nougat ROM.
-- Just like the Marshmallow ROM, phone features do not work. I don't know if this is a firmware lockdown or if it's a software thing.
The lack of hotspot really makes me wish for a custom rom on this tablet. Here's hope we get one soon on the V520

Ok sure whaever. He posted a pic with a software version of v20a-TWN-XX. AFAIK That's not for a TW G6. & this IS a G6 thread.

If I'm somehow mistaken, I'm perfectly able to be corrected. No need to be the scourge of the planet.

Hope you can see https://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=581&t=5481968&p=1 this a taiwan famous forum.
I also have the Taiwan version (V10m-TWN-XX) and I got the notification for update on the 15th of June and tried to download it two times. In both cases the download was extremely slow and crashed in both cases at 32% with "server connection issues".
Since when i try to search for a new version and download again it tells me I am already using the latest version....
Is anyone else in the same situation? I tried already to update with LG Bridge and the result is the same. The LG support was not helpful at all and the Taiwan support is only in Chinese..
Any suggestions?

it seems that LG has a problem with dualsim models i didnt receive any update Oreo at all u can just w8...but u can flash it with LG UP go to this link: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h870ds-firmwares/
go to bottom of page u will see Oreo for ur model try to download this and flash it with LG UP using Uppercut:fingers-crossed:
worth upgrade to Oreo guys. much smoother after couple of reboots
Double-posting but since nobody seems to care about 6 different parallel threads on H870DS oreo-upgrade being opened and continued, I'll play along:
I've lost patience now, too and flashed TWN FW manually (the clean way with factory reset before and after oreo upgrade). Phone is used in Germany.
First bug found so far: 5Ghz WLAN appeared in the initial setup but soon after didn't get discovered anymore. Now I hope that resetting the network settings will fix the issue.
Apart from that, the first impression is flawless and smooth. I've been used to oreo on my Xperia XZ (for months already!), though.

You can flash to the India Oreo KDZ and you will be back on the India path.
Simple "upgrade" via LGUP.

Ok. Noted with thanks, how about OTA from setting software updates?

Full image KDZ is always superior to partial image OTA.
But yes, you should receive notification of India OTA updates since you will be on official LG firmware for India. However, don't expect any updates for about 3 months. That's all LG has agreed to, at least security updates every 90 days once on Oreo. Oreo has now arrived for India.
For me, I will almost never take OTA, for reasons too lengthy to post here. In the past 4 years, over in the Motorola Quark forum we had to constantly educate people to NOT take OTAs. To instead wait for the full image and flash that. It's almost like an upside down world here in the V30 forum where people are obsessed with wanting OTAs.
I just had to advise someone today in India who took an OTA, which messed up his phone and now he has no full image to flash. Not LG, but a Motorola phone -- but same caution applies. He never unlocked his bootloader so he's out of luck. He can't even flash another region image (Motorola is locked down that way). He has to take phone to Motorola service center which is a great distance away.
My advice is to stick with full image, so you can re-flash if needed.
Hello all,
I recently purchased V60 with model number V600TM. I'm outside of US.
And it stuck on Android 10 with security patch on February 2020.
Any recommendation, please?
Can anyone confirm if i can use this method here?

That method using LGUP is totally fine but you need the firmware for 600TM. Android 12 is not available for download from the site yet.
Hello,
received yesterday my unit with Android 10 and with exactly you issue: unable to apply the downloaded OTA update.
There are 3 types of TM software otas or roms, there is tmobile, us cellular, and canadian so make sure you downloed the rom that has the initials TMO next to it.
I updated my TM version v60 to A12 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/lmv600tm-restore-ugrade-guide-a12.4447457)
After that I can get OTA but cannot install successfully (P.S. bootloader is unlocked and the device is rooted)

Thanks for the input.
Does the partition restoring way affects the installing of OTAs?

Use a vpn and you will get updates
Let me repeat myself:
If you are rooted, OTA will not happen. Your phone will download the update but not complete the updating. The advice to use LGUP for partition restoration will NOT help! First, you will lose your rooted status and two, OTA will not succeed. Bringing you back to square one.

sure, LG is alway hard about firmware.
I have Oneplus phone, its had super partitions a/b like V60 (and modern android phone). On Oneplus 8 pro, i can download and install while keeping root it self, easy as f.
