Recently my fingerprint scanner stopped working. After few days of partial functionality i got message fingerprint hardware isn't present. There was no more option for fingerprint in phone settings .
So first i factory reset my CM13 build - fingerprint scanner didn't work, no option for fingerprint
Then i installed CM14.1 - fingerprint scanner didn't work, no option for fingerprint
Then i installed MIUI 6.9.29_v8-6.0 - fingerprint scanner didn't work, no option for fingerprint.
While in MIUI i made SELF-TEST with *#*#6484*#*# - fingerprint scanner test failed.
That was final prove that it's hardware and not software problem.
My conclusion was that the problem is most probably fingerprint scanner failure or maybe fingerprint scanner connection problem. In my case it was connection problem between fingerprint scanner and pcb. So this is how I solve this problem.
It's easy to do it and only basic skills to disassemble/assemble the phone are needed.
1. Remove phone cover (use suction cup).
2. Unscrew 7 screws (marked red)
3. Remove botom plastic cover (marked red)
4. Push (with finger) fingerprint scanner connection to pcb board (marked red)
5. Assemble phone in revers order
That's it. After this procedure my phone recognize fingerprint scanner again.
For people that this doesn't work it's probably faulty fingerprint scanner and it probably has to be replaced.
I found figerprint scanner on aliexpress for $8...

Hello, I would like to as if this works for you? I'm facing the same problem with my device, and I really really need some help
Sure it worked for me...
I wouldn't write the guide if it didn't work for me....

what strange about my device is sometimes the fingerprint hardware is detected sometimes it doesn't it's very weird
Before trying this out, just try holding power button for 15s until the phone turns off, and wait a bit.
This happened to me once, and it was probably caused by static electricity or something like that. Holding the power button discharged it, and it started working again.

any video tutorial on youtube??
Thank you !!!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:\
I was facing with this problem, and found this thread.
I followed the guide and it works great now!!!
Thanx for the guide looks very promising.
Mine just died 2 days ago.
Stupid question. By unscrewing the black plastic cover do we loose warranty?
Here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xiaomi+Mi+5+Repairability+Assessment/79120
Says: "All screws are standard Phillips screws, but removing them will void your warranty."
Thanx in advance.
Sometimes it's just a software issue:
Delete these files:
/data/system/users/0/settings_fingerprint.xml
in /data/system/ delete two files with extension ‘.key‘ and three files with word ‘locksettings‘ in their full name.
Reboot the device and now again add fingerprint. Done Cheers!
Hi!
Just had this problem. Touching Home no longer worked and Fingerprint settings dissappeared after a reboot. Restarting the phone didn't work, but restarting to fastboot and then starting the phone again normally worked when I tried the next day.

Flash the latest firmware - 8.8.23
I'm still on Nougat(9.5.1.0 .eu). Not convinced to try MIUI10/Oreo yet because of bug reports and the fact that I need the phone working well and don't have the time to spend days trying unstable firmwares. The only thing that bothers me about current fw is the battery life.
Plus, I am convinced this is a hardware problem, even if it's just a momentary bad connection because of sweat getting in the phone or similar.
Hi. How to delete this file? The fingerprint system stop working and i don't resolve

Hi,
I have problem with fingerprint reader on my elephone p9000. I am using latest softer version and i have this problem from the begining.
So when i try to add new fingerprint it recognize my finger every fifth time, and after i set my fingerprint and lock phone it recognize and unlock phone first few time, and after that i seems like he forget fingerprint and i cannot use it.
Is this system or hardware problem?
After update i factory reset my phone but this does not help.
I find youtube video with the same problem
If you have any sugestion please.
I have the same problem too. I think you need to press the finger well for getting a good result.
I hope that this problem have a solution.

I had loads of problems with the fingerprint sensor.. I was scanning itself (no finger on the sensor, vibrates and returns "too many attempts), working only when the screen is on, not working at all, working 1/10 times I tried, etc...
My problems were all software related (some were registering technique related). It's really not possible that two phones that you have ordered had the same problem.
I have managed to fix mine by combining Resurrection Remix and DarkSense Kernel 1.2.0, now it works 100% of the time. (1.1.0 rendered the fingerprint sensor useless). XPosed and ROM Toolbox seemed to break the fingerprint sensor as well.
I know it might sound silly, but try a different fingerprint registering technique. What I do is I lightly touch the sensor with the centre of my fingertip for the first time, lift the finger up, rotate it by ~5 degrees and lightly touch it again. Do that until most of the finger tip is registered. I'm only saying this because I've seen people touching and "smearing" the fingerprint sensor, expecting it to work. Imagine it's a camera, give it pictures of your fingerprint.
I don't know if this is useful, but after a few months of trial-and-error I've managed to find what was wrong with mine.
I just installed the AEROM V5 and now it works about 90% of the time, which is more than my Nexus 5X did.
Suddenly the fingerprint reader stopped working for me. In security I can choose to enroll new print, but nothing happens.
Anyone know if this could be hardware or some software issue I could test?
Currently on Eragon v 5.0
Try to reboot your device and to delete all your recorded fingers. Also search on XDA the location of the fingerprint data (needs root). Make sure that you do that when the phone is connected to the charger (that's the only way I succeded).
thanks for that.
It seem to start working again after booting in to safe mode, then a hard shutdown with the power menu.
Was already looking for a new phone, but difficult to find one with qi charge and p9000 features at reasonable price
I lost all access to the fingerprint sensor. I could not use it for logon . No app could see the sensor. One test app said there was no fingerprint sensor. The Settings menu didn't show the fingerprint items, although I could search for the items. When the menus were found, no fingerprint were shown as registered and I could not add any.
I checked everything and couldn't find anything. I checked that the sensor for dirt and grease.
Huawei support suggest restarting the MediaPad. I did this and everything worked again.
Did I feel embarrassed!
Moral is: if in doubt, turn it off and then on again.
Chris
Ha ha I thought you were going to need a factory reset but like I keep telling my kids the first thing to try is turn it off then back on, 90% of problems get fixed by this lol
Hi,
I've read this thread and disabled battery optimisation for "com.samsung.android.biometrics.app.setting"* on my Note 10+ and Tab S6 (Wifi).
On both devices the fingerprint scanner is faster :good:
... and it seems to fix recurrent unlock problems with my Tab S6 too
* on some devices it's named "com.samsung.android.biometric"
Important:
it's not known yet if this might have any negative side effects (as battery drain or burning out the fingerprint sensor).
I also did it. But it doesn't make the fingerprint scanner faultless...
Hi, am I the only one having a problem with the fingerprint reader after upgrading to Android 10? ?
I have probably tried everything. Factory reset and clear cache partiotion do not help. The problem returns randomly. The reader stops working, and when I try to get to the settings I have the message: "Finger print sensor calibration needed " or "finger print sensor doesn't respond, try to reboot your device . If the problem persists, contact support "
I checked everywhere and there is no such thing as calibrating the fingerprint reader. Technical support also couldn't help me with the problem, they only recommended to send the tablet for service. ?
The problem has never appeared before the update so I bet that the problem is new software.
Any advice what else I could try?
The reader, when it starts to work, works much better than before the update, unfortunately more and more often it does not work at all.
The strangest thing is that sometimes it starts working after a regular restart. I have no idea what to think about it.
Something similar... It sometimes works like a charm. It sometimes stops working, but no message and no way to use it in order to activate the tab. In that case I have to use an alternative method to. I suppose a fix could be released after this update to Android 10...
solved
Hi there,
I've solved this issue. I have tab s6 4-5 month and I couldn't even register the fingerprint. today I tried again and I found out that you have to touch the scanner very gently, do not press firmly. so I could register 3 fingerprints and it is working. even with unlocking if you press harder it won't work you have to touch slightly and it is working. still it is not reliable as other scanners but it works. i'm providing the video, you can see when I touch gently it is working, but If I press harder it won't register.

Hi everyone,
I broke my lcd, so I changed it. I change the lcd+plate, but every componant including power/fingerprint button are untouched.
And after repair, there was a system update, I agreed to install.
And now I don't have the fingerprint option available, nothing in the parameters, nowhere in my phone menu?!?!
I don't know if it is hardware (made a mistake unpluging an pluging back some connectors inside, power button included), or software.
The power button is still working but not the fingerprint, on my honor 20 it's the same bouton, so I doubt it could be a connector not well connected. And I don't whant to teardown everything again, only if I'm sure it could'nt be software related.
the face recognition is working, I never used it before, but now I have to use a faster way to unlock than entering my pin.
Honor 20 YAL-L21 -never rooted or software modified build 10.1.0.241 (C431E9R3P7 (but my bank app (only) tell me I'm rooted (long before that problem) , but I'm not!!)
Is there a know problem?
Thanks
