Takes 5 hours or more to fully charge wtf - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Is this normal at all? I am using stock charger and both
Used global and currently RR rom. I Google for little
Bit and found out that people are charging for only 2 hours
With just the stock wrong and stock charger. Source: https://youtu.be/YedjT3ANTSE
It takes 180-280 min and maximum mA on Ampere. I don't know what these digits tell at all.
Is my phone defectice?
This is really annoying me.

It takes around 2h20min..if its chargin around 2A...with guyver or radon kernel it goes hl to 2.4A, more then that would heat too much.
You might have faulty charger? Have you tried any other charger?what does ampere says? ...

Try another cable... Cable makes huge difference too

What is the ideal Ampere score? I go from 90 to 200+ mA
But never pass 400 mA

It should be between 500-2000 mA
400 mA is like you charge it from computers usb.
Change your cable and try again

[KENZO][QUESTION] Battery charging rate

I received my RN3SD 3gb yesterday. I was testing the charging rate today because I felt that it was charging slower today than yesterday. I used the program Ampere to check the charging rate. Market link is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lay&pcampaignid=APPU_1_aYcvV5ziJMG0uATH1YSoBw
Well, in getting around 1000 mAh on an average with a max of 1300 mAh and lowest of 230 mAh.
I read somewhere that the charging rate should be around 1900 mAh. I would appreciate if I got feedback as to what the normal charging rate is for you guys (ideally, checked in the same app). And please let me know if I should be using a different app. Thanks.
info:
Unrooted ROM MIUI Global 7.2.2.0
Yes u r right, i m getting 1900 mah with 16 gb model ,ampere app is ok. Maybe try factory reset
Ampere showing 1.9k mA to 2k mA here.try check your cable and charger.
How that matter and what doest it affect ? Its about charging time or battery life ?
I'm gettgin 1550mAh
What was the battery percentage when you opened Ampere? When it's getting up to like 90 % the current goes down.

When I opened Ampere the reading always varies. Sometimes is 490 sometimes 1150, the highest I've got is 1650. The charging cable and the charger are brand new. Even tried charging from a USB power bank, got about 500mah. What can be the reason for this slow charging. These are all values foe when charge is less than 90%. What can be the reason?
Depends on what powerbank you have. Most don't support high charging rates, (although there are some more powerful ones from xiaomi and lenovo on the low end market).
On another note,
I am wondering about the maximum Voltage and Amp we can charge with safely? i tried 3 differennt ones; 5v 0.3A, 5v 1.2A and 5.2V 2A. All seem to work fine, with the last one i got about 10% per 10 min with a value of around 2100 Mahor higher , but i am not sure if this is a safe way to charge the device?
Does anyone know what is the maximum safe charging value?

There are regulators inside the phone that step down the voltage to charge the battery, i think it's a 4.35v cell but the phone will regulate the charge. So long as the USB voltage is within spec it's fine, many chargers have 5.1 or 5.2 volts to combat voltage drop with higher current over long leads or leads with small conductors.
mine about 1.900 mA

Quick Charge 3.0 Kernel?

Hi, I'm using the 4x snapdragon, with the final Resurrection rom.
Can someone recommend a good kernel with quick charge and works alongside this rom?
Thanks in advance.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4(X) doenst support Quick Charge!
Snapdragon 625.
I recall that the chip does and xiaomi within the kernel restricted that.

No they did not, it's not kernel related but the charging board and battery that are not compatible.
Thanks for the info.
Why so obsessed to quick charge?
It's not much faster than the regular charge.
Quick charge enabled phone charge the 3000mah battery in 1.5hours... If the battery is larger 4000mah, it will takes approximately 2 hours to charge.
RN4 regular charge is about 2 hours 15mins... Its just 15 minutes longer and if we usually charge it overnight, its nothing difference... you want to take the unknown risk?

Yes!
We do all sort of things with our devices that are outside of "safe use". We overclock and overvolt them, flash stuff that could potentially brick them, etc.
As to why? I wouldn't charge the device from 0-100 with QC enabled but i sure as hell would like to charge it for 5 min and get 20-30%
If QC could be enabled it has to be tested sure, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea with an ambient T of 30C maybe the cut of point would be 60% or 20min. But yes I would like to test it.
Peace

When it comes to play the electricity, the risk isn't your phone brick but bomb...
And it will nowhere near 20-30% in 5 minutes.
LG G5 that have QC 3.0 enabled charge around 10% in 5 minutes. its with 2800mah battery, faster usb-c, etc...
What's the battery charging rate with a stock charger? My stock charger gives 1300mah at 70% and a Blitzwolf QC 3.0 gives 1700mah at 70%.

Well sure it won't be for every one, there is a real risk of the battery catching fire (bomb is a bit hyperbolic) . That's why IF it's possible people willing to take the risk have to test it out. Some might think it's worth the risk though.
My admittedly rusty back of the napkin math says it should be theoreticly possible to get 20% With 20V and 3.6A in less than 7 min.

you are wrong,
RN4 snapdragon need 3 hour 5m for fully charged (10~100%) with 5V2A charger
and the advantage of QC is they charge very fast in 0~70% (about 30min only) then slower until 100% (max 1H 40m total)

Well my sister has a zen 2 too... It's not quick charge..
Quick charge is qualcomm tech, zen 2 have intel on it.
And zen2 just have 3000mah battery on it, mido is 4000mah capacity... It's 25% larger. Its totally different...
Before using mido, I was using mi5s that have QC 3.0, with legit 3.0 charger and usb-c, its no way 60-70% in 30 minutes.
Well I have 2 mido, come with 2 different stock charger. One is RN4 global, with EU plug... Yes it will need about 3 hours to charge. One is RN4x, come with chinese charger. It need 2.5 hours to top... 2 hours will get you from 10 to anywhere between 10-90+%, the last 10% is very slow...
Will provide logs later, because I've fully charged my phone this morning and still have 78% left this afternoon.
I've measured this morning charge... Start from 17% to 90% takes 100 minutes.
Note 4 takes less than 2 hours for full charge 10-100%. Just don't use the phone while charging.

Yeah, need at least 2hours to charge from critical value to 90 percent, as my experience fully charge ur phone is bad (i prefer to charge till 95 to 97 percent) furthermore the screen on time is the same.

Quick Charging is 3020mA for me. Charges from 20% to 100% in about 60 minutes.
Edit: I'm using this one on Oreo DU with x829 btw: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Twi...0-For-iphone-7-8-Plus-X-Wall/32838242756.html
I am on Oreo DU and max charge is arround 1300mah. My original charger came broken, so i am using 2A one, also qc but 2.0, original cable is also faulty as with it it charges some 400mah.
1300mah is fast enough for me.
Heyyo, eh I haven't found Amphere to be that accurate to be honest. I'd recommend accubattery over it.
For charging speed? You pretty much need to leave your device charging with the screen turned off for at least ten minutes to get an accurate quick charge reading.
I've seen it hit up to 2500mAh with stock charging brick and cable.
Max approx ~3000 mA. But you should note it's when battery level is low. Charging speed and current depends from battery lewel, higher battery lewel means slower charging
I didn't measure, but from 3 per cent to 100 75 minutes

Have your problem been solved? I'm facing same issue and it happened after flashing cuoco92 room. After that I tried most of Oreo and nougat rom but none of them solved my problem except slim7 rom.
---------- Post added at 10:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:00 AM ----------
My original charger and cable working fine as slim7 rom let me charge my device quickly but other roms not. Slim7 gives 2900 max current on fast charging while 2300 current without turning it on. In others it gives 990mah or sometimes 1560mah and doesn't matter fast charging enabled or not. I also tested my charger and cable with le 1s and showing 4000+ mAh current. Don't know what happened to my device while. I always prefer clean flash included internal storage during flashing new rom.

Charging problem

I got a new Qualcomm quick charge 3 certified charger ..but according to the readings in ampere app ....the output is like 1750 mA ..but the same charger with note 9 gives an output of 2900-3000 mA ...is this the phone problem ...if anyone has the same problem ....and found a solution ..please help
It does not charge at full power all the time. There are several charging states and the full power one is from 15% to 65%, I think.

Yeahh ....I checked that also ...I measured the mA from mi charger ..it was 2800-2900 mA ..the new charger gives about 1650-1750 mA...at 40% charge
The kernel limits max current to 2800ma, but you can increase it with a custom kernel. It could be that your new charger is not properly supported.

Temperature is just a part of the variables. Other variable to consider which was not stated was voltage.
QC 3.0 spec shows that it can charge at a voltage between 3.2V to 20V by doing +/- 200mV increment/decrement. Looking at the current alone is incomplete.

Issue with charging

The stock charger says it gives output of 18 watt . But in my case maximum ouput goes to 1.5-2 amp/3.5-4volts which is very less . It would be helpfull if anyone tells how to get 9volts or 12 volts.

Stock
MIUI 11.0.9
If you are ok with rooting your device. I can tell you how to do so.
1. Root your device.
2. Install Advance charging control app(AccA) .
Link- https://f-droid.org/packages/mattecarra.accapp/
3. Give root permission.
Done.
(Don't install the magisk module app will work fine without it. The magisk module is installed and forget kind of module which you cannot modify to your own need)
Now you can set the speed you want (if your device suppots the spped you typed in it).
Its not just that, you can limit the charging % after which the charger automatically disconnects. I find it very helpful when i charge my device overnight. Automatically disconnects after 95%.
It also looks at your thermal of your battery. You can set your own temp % after which it starts cooling down by limiting the current/volt to the battery.
I personally suggest this app.
Thanks to @VR25.
Hope it works for you.
Thanks . Will try it.

Change cable, then change charger. Usually its either of those two. If it works, good. If not then it might be an issue with the software try to reflash (backup first). Worst case scenario it's the port
The issue is solved for me (Stock Rom ) . Bought new cable upto 3amp . Charged 87% in one hour (screen off) .
Tip : Keep the temperature below 35 degrees .

As I suspected, you're aren't aware what the ampere app is for.
Here take this for starters:

The ampere app is for........amperes, it does not show charging voltage. It's the battery's voltage. Same is the case for accubattery.
I use Franco kernel manager app from playstore and it shows watts, which is at least somewhat believable.
I don't know about ACCA because it doesn't work without root and works on very specific phones.
Try with Franco kernel manager app(root not required) and check the watt.

You mean *1 hour* 45-55 mins(0-100)?
POCO F1 has 4000 mah, or 4.0 A * 3.7 v = 14.8 Wh, so if you charge your phone at 14.8 W for 1 hour then it will go 0-100%
or it will take 1 hour to charge your phone from 0% to 100% if you charge at a constant 14.8 watt. Which never happens, because hardware thermal throttling and software thermal throttling, after 30-50% the watts will go down, in the last 80-90% it will really be low. Even if you remove all thermal throttling and charge your phone in ice cubes, still because it's a 18 WATT QC 3 charger, it cannot charge in 45-55 mins.
What you're saying is most certainly impossible. Either that or your numbers aren't accurate, like it wasn't from 0-100% maybe 25-90% or it wasn't 45-55 min , maybe an hour and a half or you don't use the stock 18 watt qc 3 charger, or your battery is defective or you don't have a poco f1..
