As far as I've read and seen in video reviews the sound only comes out of one side, so it's not stereo.

The left is usually the microphone and right is the speaker. (Such is the case with the note 4.)

Redmi Note 4 has only 1 speaker, which is on right side. Left is mic and MI did the grills on both side just to make it fancy and balance.

Better performance? Install Skinny Rom by Giovani and enable zram with Skinny Pro by jajk. That's the best perfomance you can get I'd say.
