[Q] Restore Viber from Titanium Backup on new phone - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I got a new phone (Redmi 4), and I'm trying to restore my Viber with Titanium Backup, with a backup that I have from my previous phone (Nexus 4).
When the restore is complete, I open Viber, and my chats are there, but then it tries to sync stuff, it crashes, and it goes back to the welcome screen.
The problem is, it's an old number, and I can't activate it again.
Is there any way to restore this backup?
(I noticed that on the com.viber.voip.ViberPrefs.xml file, there's some data regarding the old phone: <string name="device_hardware_key">Nexus 4mako</string> ... is there anything I can change there so it doesn't crash?)
(Btw, I have Viber Desktop running. Is is possible to activate it from PC to Android?)

Restoring data/contacts after flash

Hey everyone,
I just updated to the new Bamf 3.0 RC4. I backed up all my apps/user data in Titanium backup beforehand. Some questions about restoring data/contacts:
1) I've always had the "sync contacts" with google option available. However, after syncing I've found that a lot of my friends' contact information isn't there. Furthermore, when I get texts people's contact info doesn't come up
that led me to
2) restore system data with Titanium backup. After doing so, I see most of my friends numbers but not all. The texts I received after flashing were wiped out and replaced by messages I had prior to flashing.
3) After restoring all my apps, I can't seem to change my background picture. It's set to one I took myself. I go into the theme settings but can't get it to change.
Thanks so much for all the help.

1. What information is missing?
2. Yeah, that's what happens when you restore a backup, not exactly sure what you were expecting there.
3. When you try to set a different wallpaper, does your phone give you an error, or does everything work fine & it just doesn't change the wallpaper?
In the stock contacts application, you can export your contacts to your sd card beforehand. Then after you flash, just import them. I export the ones from my phone and it works every time.
This is the method that works for me before and after each flash of a new ROM. (I am assuming a full wipe for step 5 and 6 to get my apps back)
1. Backup using Titanium backup (batch/Run - Backup all user apps+system data)
2. Backup call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore (found in market)
3. Backup SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore (found in market)
4. Flash ROM
5. Restore using Titanium backup (batch/RUN - Restore missing apps with data) (I am having trouble with Amazon apps and getting back data so YMMV)
6. Restore using Titanium backup (Backup/Restore - Filter (apps) - restore all apps with data)
7. Restore call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore
8. Restore SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore
Good Luck!

1. Basically all the contact info.
2. Ok, makes sense that I lost the new texts. But what about contact info? Some friends were missing, but that was fixed when I synced with facebook so I guess it's ok. Just want to make sure I don't lose contacts when I flash again. I'll try some of everyone's suggestions though.
3. Well, oddly enough, now it sort of works. However, when I go into the HTC wallpapers I can't actually see them on the screen- I have to click the "preview" button to see them. When I click preview, sometimes a new background comes up in which case I can hit apply and it works no problem. Other times I click preview and there is a black background. I hit apply and get a message "Warning. Phone storage is full."
edit: even now, I go into my gmail contacts on my computer and can't find some of my friends' information. I am syncing contacts too.

[Q] android sync manager wifi restore HELP!

Hi all,
My phone, an evo shift 4g running 2.3.3, started acting up so i decided i would restore it to factory settings to start fresh. Before i restored, i backed up my contacts, messages, and calendar with android sync manager wifi, which resulted in an .mbk file. Since the phone has been restored, i have been trying to restore my data but android sync manager keeps freezing everytime i start the restore. Can anyone help me figure out how to restore my data? I've seen people get everything back from their google accounts, but apparently i didn't sync my phone correctly so i basically have an empty phone and I didn't backup to my sd (all i have is the .mbk file). I know how to temp root and have a basic knowledge of ADB... if that helps... thanks.

[Q] Whatsapp reader or restore old messages

Hi all, i guess it's is already mentioned.. but i couldnt find it after searching for almost a day.
I have old whatsapp messages that i want restored, could anyone explain me the way how to do it?
greetings,
Gertjan
I'm not quite sure what your problem is. Did you change the device or reinstall whatsapp and want to restore a backup?
In general it should work following these steps:
http://www.teamandroid.com/2011/08/21/how-to-backup-chat-messages-in-whatsapp/
Follow the steps below to backup your Whats chat conversations:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Press the Menu key, and go to ‘Settings’.
- Scroll down and go to ‘More’;.
- Now tap once on “Chat History Backup” and backup will start.
That’s it! Next time when you re-install WhatsApp after a full reset, you will be asked to restore your previous backup (which is stored on your SD card).

If not, we need some more information...
However I guess it's not that useful too have all those older messages in whatsapp, because they are just filling the internal space and you can't easily access them (you would have to press "load older messages" again and again and whatsapp will become slower and slower ...).
A good possibility is to transfer the full whatsapp backup to your PC and use a tool called "Whatsapp Extractor" to display all the conversations.

is there a way to restore iphone whatsapp backup/history to android htc one X?
Re: Whatsapp reader or restore old messages
WhatsApp automatically makes backups every 24 hours and stores them on the microSD memory card of your Android phone. To restore the deleted messages of WhatsApp, you will need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore the lost message history of WhatsApp. Choose restore your missing chats.
Today I woke up in the morning and saw that all my whatsapp messages were deleted, I did not perform any back or restore from any backup utility such as Titanium backup. I am on Android 4.3 on Samsung note 2.
I tried to uninstall whatsapp and re-install again, it asked for restoring messages from backup folder but only restored messages till date 30-Dec-2013, although message backup was present with latest backup of yesterday’s date i.e. 23-Feb-2014.
Please let me know how can I restore all the messages and resolve this issue.

Have you tried whatsapp migrator tool?
:good:
Try this way
Have you tried to restore by WhatsApp. If you have done a backup, messages, chats can be easily restored. If not, try Android Data Recovery on RecoveryAndroid. I used it to get my lost Whatsapp messages back days ago.:highfive:

Restore Whatsapp Chats without Activating procedure

Hello,
i have a problem that i can`t activate whatsapp, because i can`t receive sms or calls - i am abroad without roaming.
I have a new phone and also dbcrypt files from yesterday.
As my phone crashed i reinstalled everything , including whatsapp via titanium backup.
The problem is, that the date of the titanium backup file is from 20.dec.2018 where i first time switched from the old to the new phone.
I want that Whatsapp uses my latest backed up messages / videos (from yesterday), which i have locally on my sdcard and online in google drive.
But Whatsapp is not asking me to import them ( is i can only use the titanium backup method to have whatsapp active in the new phone).
Any recommendations how to force whatsapp to use the latest files?

Restore old local WhatsApp backup (crypt7) from 2014 not working

Hello,
I need to restore an old WhatsApp backup from 2014 (crypt7). I still have the same phone number, so there should be no problem.
Usually I do the following:
1) Copy the backup to "/sdcard/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/"
2) Install WhatsApp
3) Start WhatsApp and verify the phone number
4) A notification asks me if I want to restore the local backup
5) Done
This worked for recent backups and also for backups back to mid 2016.
For the backup from 2014, WhatsApp didn't find the local backup, instead I was asked to check for Goode Drive backups.
As mentioned here in this case I turned off WiFi & mobile data, let WhatsApp check for online backups till the network error appeared and skipped.
But in the end, there was no local backup found.
The problem is also, from all this trying, my number got now blocked for 12 h because WhatsApp thinks I'm a spammer, sadly.
What am I doing wrong?
1) Should I remove my Google Account from my smartphone (Android 12) after installing WhatsApp and before staring the verification process?
2) Would it maybe help to install and old WhatsApp version like 2.21.8.17 as mentioned here?
3) Is there a way to push a local WhatsApp backup to Google Drive, so I could restore it from there?
4) Can I do anything against the spam protection mechanism, so WhatsApp knows that all these verifications are for a good reason and not for spamming?
Thanks in advance.
