I'm interested in buying this phone, but I don't really know if it's worth to buy it in 2017, I also have an option to buy Samsung Galaxy S7 but still, S6 edge looks way cooler, and also looks like it has a better camera. It's also much cheaper but I don't know if should buy this phone, does someone knows if this phone's as fast as S7?
Depends on your definition of better.
Cpu is not faster but they both feel extremely responsive.
I would not buy the s7 due to no IR blaster.
I have 128GB version so i care not for the lack of SD CARD.
Camera is a bit of a tricky one. I only like to take pics in 16:9, the S7 gets its max MP at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Low light is better on S7 but if thatis not important to you then I think the S6 edge 128GB is far superior to the S7 edge as it has more features that s7. Always on screen is irritating as I have had it on a custom rom and found that at night its still distracting while you sleep.

I'll be honest and it's just my opinion but my s6 edge is by far the best phone I have ever got. I would still buy this phone again in a few years time!
To me it feels just as responsive as the s7

I just bought a brand new Alpha online for $299. I called Samsung and they confirmed that it's a legitimate phone with a full warranty. I haven't turned it on yet because I'm debating keeping it or returning it and waiting for the new S6 that's coming out soon. I have AT&T and I'm not eligible for an upgrade so I would have to pay full price for any phone I get. I previously went from a Note 3 to a S5, then to some Lumia phones.
I loved the screen size and clarity on both the Note 3 and S5, but I did think they were a little too big for they way I like to use my phone. The Note 3 was just gigantic to me and felt ridiculous to make a call with. But, the screen was great for playing on the web. The S5 had great specs, but I didn't like the plastic feel of it, and I did notice some lag when scrolling through pages, which was unacceptable to me given the high price of the phone.
I think the Alpha might be a great size phone for my needs, and most of the specs on the phone are really good. My only hesitation is the screen. I've read on forums online that people are pretty divided with the quality of the screen. Most people are OK with it, but some say it's downright subpar.
Right now, I'm on the fence...do I keep the alpha (with a better size overall, but possible poorer quality screen), or wait for the S6?
That is an question only you can answer, i like my Alpha and I don't switch for the next two years

I usually change my phone every 6 months...I get bored I guess. My goal is to finally find a phone I like enough to keep longer than 6 months. So far, I haven't found it.

I'll say this. My wife calls me a phone whore. I have owned over 30 phones in last 3 years, I get bored I sell I buy. I recently picked up alpha for 319 outright by having bestbuy match amazon. This phone for that price is amazing. It's only .04 mm smaller than s5 and 12mp not 16mp but every other spec is identical. It's feels great, looks great, runs great. It would be hard not to justify this phone which is essentially a flagship for its price. Why I can't seem to justify getting anything else right now especially now that it's become pretty stagnant in improvements in phones

In comparison to S5 the screen is smaller and with only HD ress, but since its my second 4.7 inch phone with same resolution i would say its more than enough for daily usage as browsing, playing games , watching movies or pictures. Also the metal frame that it has gives to it pretty damn good look and feel and a nice grip in your hand. Performance wise its almost the best there is if you ask me and hasn't let me down so far. The only thing that would make a real impact on your decision maybe would be the battery since it comes with a 1860 mah capacity and for a heavy usage it would be too low.
Sent from my SM-G850F
@skirush, the real only problem with Alpha is the battery capacity and it's real for users who play games or web browsing a lot. For all the other users i would recommend Galaxy Alpha 1000%. The screen is great. Don't focus only in reviews. Go in a local store and check it by yourself both in image and text reproduction.
Yes.
Now that the S6 has been released we can see that the main advantages are a
1) Super high res screen- the Alpha looks very good to me- super high res screen is for
Aficionados of those screens like Note 4 and LG G3 they eat a lot of battery and difficult to see much difference for many.
Ideally a 2K or 4K screen should be switchable in the Menu.
2) The Camera in S6 will be noticeably better than Alpha although Alpha is very good it is a half notch below S5 in sharpness and detail and The Note 4 is up from there.
S6 is similar to Note 4 but better in low light
and a hair less sharp than Note 4 due to wider lens ( same Sensor).
S6 has great versatile Software for Camera.
3) S6 has louder speaker than most Alphas.
4) S6 is much larger like S5 .
5) Alpha is more rugged than S6 due to fragile Camera sticking out further from back and glass back on S6.
6) Alpha is very fast faster and less lag than S5 but S6 is just as lag free as Alpha plus more powerful multi tasking IF you use your phone like a Laptop.
7) I think you are so frustrated by Alpha Battery Life that:
A) Get the 2500 Mah battery kit and keep Alpha.
B) IF you can send it back and get S6 and can be happy with OK Battery Life of S6 I think it's about 70% of S5 but charges quickly -read GSM Arena Review-
You may be better off with S6 because the Alpha is annoying you .
Also SIZE of S6 is about like S5 check the size of S5 to see if size of S6 will work for you.
If you like a lot of excellent photo options S6 will be really fun IMO.
So I'm in need of a new phone. Right now I'm using a redmi note 4 with custom roms.
What I'm looking for is a nice camera for the price, good speed for at least 2 years and nice design. Also custom roms
Is this worth getting at 350 euro for the 128gb against a S8 64gb 380 Euro. There's also the s7 edge at 200 euro. The s8 is used and I don't have any guarantee that they have not change somethings (like replacing display etc)

Nice. One thing. I noticed that with most xiomi phones I owned. redmi 4a, note 4. Every one of them the camera is quite ****ty like just a little shake and it makes the image blurry.
Does that happen with poco?

Does it happen offten. I mean comparing it to a s8 camera ( I know s8 has one of the best cameras around) would it be as good as 80% of it?

No not often but it can happen. It's not really a deal breaker but the S8 I would say is the better phone because it's made by a better company, has a better screen (though smaller than the Poco) better 3rd party support. Yes the SOC is older than the SD845 bit all depends on what you want from a phone. I brought the Poco mainly because it has a headphone jack, a card slot and was in the price bracket of what I could afford and didn't want to buy a second hand phone
I replaced my s8 for the poco, the camera is decent if you use Gcam but of course is worse than the s8.
The battery life and the modding possibility are much better but you should decide what are you looking for in a phone before buying it.
The Samsung water resistance, wireless charging, amoled and NFC are hard to turn down, but a new F1 still wins in my book - bigger battery, better SoC, plus it's new
If you're looking for a camera phone, best look elsewhere. Not to say that the camera is bad, but do note this does not have OIS, only EIS. So if you have shaky hands you best use a camera stand or take multiple shots (it's easy to do that just hold the camera button). I have had good shots with this phone and I'm satisfied with it (since I don't care much about cam quality, I'm after the SD845, though the shots i took were ok for my tastes).
As said, if you're gonna use your phone for amateur photog, you need steady hands and possibly a stand, but for the price, the camera is great.
If you badly need an amazing camera, look at the s8 or possibly oneplus, but the Pocophone cam is decent. You can google some shots taken by other users for reference. Here is one I took from my dim room and see if it suits your needs.

To tell the truth I might take 10-15 pic a year so yeah not much of a camera guy. The reason I ask about the camera is because I'm a programmer and need some pics of my workflow so I though might as well take them with my new phone.
I will go for this only for the reason from where I am people here sell refurbished phones without saying it. A refurbished S8 (it might be) is worthless against a new phone. Also Xiomi is kind of known for custom roms.
ps: to the one saying S8 has better community. From what I could tell on xda the s8 didn't have much compared to xiomi phones ( I compared it to my note 4)
I have s8, s9+ and poco. Poco has the worst screen of all but not by that much comparing to s8, since it can be very bright and its viewing angles are fine. The camera using the gcam is adequate, better that stock s8, worst than s9+, but again it is adequate.
Performance is better on the poco, talking about daily activities at least, is more fluid and fast. Overall quality, is surprisingly adequate on poco, and since we all use case on our phones, more premium devices like the s8/s9 will brag a bit less. Last but not the least, unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty for the poco, but its a different case for the samsungs.

Since you mention performance, does androud stutter still occurs in flagships like poco f1? Like literally every android I had in hand (not many flagships though) has some kind of lag sometime.
Nope I would sell this for a s8 because it lacks so many features
Bad eis
No ois
No 60 fps in any mode
It's screen doesn't support real hdr its just plastic looking with very innaccurate colors.
The only purpose in upgrading would be the processor.
I think the only differences in this phone is that
The official dev community and the xda community are very active like posts each day.
But if you really want a phone for pubg this phone can handle it at hdr 60 fps 720p mode. It's viewing angles and lighting are about 75% of what you would get with an oled panel.

For me, I haven't experienced any lags. I'm on pie now btw. My only issue is for some reason they removed the system option to hide the notch(not really an issue since I use nacho notch a 3rd party app to remove notch). Everything works fine for me. I can run simultaneous programs with no lags, I can play heavy games with no stutters and the rom community is amazing.
As for your camera usage, it takes clear pictures and is sufficient enough (I use it sparingly since I'm not a picture buff). I use it sometimes for document scanning and it's clear enough to show the letters in the docs. For selfie and family pics, it's nice and adequate, though you shouldn't compare it to phones who specifically target photo buffs since the main point of poco is SD845 and I can say it's fast and smooth. Though as mentioned photog is good and adequate to take clear photos for normal use
Some people say there are issues but I haven't experienced any of them at all. No touch lag, no screen bleed and the Poco team really has good aftersales since they respond and really converse with their consumers (see xiaomi forum app about latest updates with Poco and you will see they do acknowledge most of the issues, unlike some manufacturers). I'd say for the price it is a snatch and I do hope they launch more of these "flagship killers"
Almsot forgot, there is one more thing you should be wary of, the notifications. I think you already know this but notifications do not stay in the status bar, so if I were you, use this mod. It moves the clock up a bit sk that the notifications will stay below it:
https://mi-globe.com/miui-notch-notification-mod/?codename=beryllium
And for more info

I would always recommend buying anything other than Samsung but as a Poco user my advice is, skip both and buy Oneplus 6, if you can find it somewhere affordable
Alright, so I found the tab S3 for $330 at Best Buy(new). The Silver color apparently did not sell as much as the black, so Best Buy has it on clearance in store only. I bought it and is coming in a couple of days. However, I'm concerned as to whether I should keep this tablet(for the price I got) or I should go ahead and get the tab S4(for discounted price of $549)?
I find that the tab S3 has a lot of mixed reviews regarding battery life, speed and speakers. I haven't researched the tab S4 as much. But most complaints I've found are about DEX and that it's expensive.
Looking for some biased and non biased responses.
Do you need DeX or pen functionality?
If not, go for the new Tab S5e.
Should have good battery life, has fingerprint reader, nice screen and it's already on Pie.

Mainly, looking for a tab where I can do medical charting with the S-Pen(good handwriting to text translation) and watch a movie from time to time.
Thanks for the response.
since i've own both device this is my opinion for your usage.
for your medical charting with s-pen. both will do but the s3 4:3 screen ratio give better reading and writing area then s4 16:9.
entertainment. i take s4 for its wide 16:9 ratio. the black bar on s3 with 4:3 ration is to big. its like watching old tv with current new wide screen format movie.
I too have both.
My S3 battery does seem to discharge quite fast.
Cases for the S3 are better, specifically the ones with hand straps.
Both look great, although the S4 screen looks much better.
In my opinion it isn't just better for media but also for work. With or without DeX the S4 screen makes Citrix workspace and MS remote desktop easier on the eyes.
If the Tab S4 still comes with the gear fit 2 pro, it's a better deal in my opinion, even if you don't want the watch, you can gift it or sell it.
Fellow XDA Members I was fortunate enough to have had some hands on time with the S10 5G, I thought I would share what I found with you so if you are thinking about buying one in the future or waiting for it over the standard S10 Plus, feel free to ask me any questions. I have also created a video about the S10 5G and the link is below but please read my experience with it first, VIDEO LINK HERE: https://youtu.be/dyrG-nAJFvc
Holding it in my hand I realise how big this phone is but it still feels smaller than I thought it would thanks to the hole punch camera design infact I would say it feels very similar in size to my Note 9. In a similar vein to the other S10 models Samsung has chosen to give us an aluminium frame sandwiched between two panes of curved glass with gorilla glass 6 covering the screen. I’m glad they didn’t go with a stainless steel frame otherwise it would be a very heavy device. The back has a stunning new colour that Samsung is calling Titan which has a rainbow shimmer effect but it will also be available in silver and gold.
The screen is stunning, a massive 6.7inches way bigger than the S10 plus but Samsung has also said that it is a wide Quad HD Plus screen with Dynamic Amoled technology and boy does it look good, Samsung are the kings of mobile screens. Hidden in the screen is the all new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which works well and only needs the slightest touch to unlock the phone even when the screen is off.
Running this titan is the Snapdragon 855 the same as the other s10 models, but the difference is Samsung has included the X50 modem chip which gives it that hyper fast 5G connectivity. Of course none of this matters if the battery is not up to par and wisely Samsung has included a 4600 mah power pusher in the S10 5G. Samsung has also included the all new 25W fast wired charging capability which according to Samsung will charge the phone from 0 to 20% in just 10 minutes and to 100% in less than an hour. Just like the S10 plus the 5G has fast wireless charging 2.0 and wireless power share.
It will come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage but unfortunately it is not expandable due to lack of room within the phone.
This video wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t talk about the cameras, firstly it is obvious to see the punch hole in the screen is bigger than the one on the standard S10 plus. That is because it now houses the same 10mp f1.9 primary camera and 8mp f2.2 depth sensor but also included is an all new HQVGA 3D depth sensing camera which will be used for advanced AR features and is capable of measuring distances. This same sensor is included in the rear camera cluster alongside the 12mp variable aperture primary lens, the telephoto 12mp f2.4 camera and the ultra wide 16mp f2.2 sensor which gives a 123 degree viewing angle like human eyes.
Like the other s10 models the 5G comes with android 9.0 onboard and all the pie goodness such as night mode, the sleeker ui design, gesture controls and an overall smoother experience. So you are thinking great device I would love to own one, well I have a different opinion, now hear me out , my issue is that I don’t believe it will sell well because Samsung have said it will be released in summer. Now bearing in mind the networks won’t be fully 5 g ready by then coupled with the fact that the 5G Note 10 will be only a couple of months away, I can see consumers waiting for that instead of investing in the S10 5G.
Nice write up my friend, yeah your conclusion is the same as to why I went with the S10+ and I am happy with my choice. I will be getting the note so holding off for the S10+ 5G didn't make sense.
However I think it is indicative as to what the Note 10 will bring and boy is it going to be good....:good:
Good to hear your review! I'm going to enjoy my S10+ for a while and wait for 5G to get established...
i just not sure how I am going to afford the 5G plan in U.S.

Thanks for taking the time to do the write up. I'll be looking to trade up to this once available for sure!!

Anyone will jump to Tab S8 11" from Tab S6?
No, I moved over to ipad, much better. I like the s6 dex mode but everything else is much better on ipad for my use.
Thinking about it but currently no stock at my country.
I have both as I traded in an older MS Surface instead. While the S8 is nice, I am not sure I would part with the S6 over it. The advantages of the S8 over the S6 are the newer processor, slightly larger screen and more OS updates. If you happen to get the detachable keyboard, it is nicer as well vs the keyboard on the S6. However for me, with the main use of my tablets are for media consumption, so I don't see much advantages over the S6. I like to have a variety of tablets around the house as I also use them for Smart House control, so I really didn't want to give up my S6 as it's still operating perfectly. Only reason I got the S8 was due to the low cost with the trade in. IMHO, I don't think the S8 is much of an upgrade over the S6 to trade it in, particularly if you are paying significantly more than the initial trade in options a few months back. I would highly recommend going to a local Best Buy if you have one and see it in person for yourself to see if it's worth upgrading. Personally, I would recommend trading in an older device if you had one and keeping the S6 as a spare.
In all honesty, the S6 is still super fast, no lag, it feels like a brand new device, and it doesn't seem to struggle with any apps or games. It Works perfectly fine and doesn't feel like it needs to be upgraded.
