i was running cyanide l for about a year when suddenly it started saying there was no sim card. i tried switching sims, same. sim works in other phones. i backed up, wiped and installed cyanide m. it recognized the sim and i had phone and 3g but no 4g and it would not allow me to access my sd card (others worked). so i backed up, wiped, and installed cm13. no sim, so i wipe and go back to cyanide m but still no sim. tried restoring backups going all the way back to last year to no avail. tried using different versions of twrp to flash all 3, same. tried flashing modem, same thing. imei and baseband show as unknown in about. would this be because efs corruption, or because its not recognizing the sim?
i cant find a efs backup. i may have one from CWMR, still searching hard drives.
does this sound like possible hardware issue? anybody have any suggestions for how to fix this?
im a little afraid of flashing a stock because i avoid knox like the plague.
replaced simcard slot with one from phone with cracked screen. same thing
used gsii_repair to mount efs and got signal (not sure why mounting it and rebooting did this). it would only get 3g, and in test menu 700mhz channel 13 used by Verizon lte was not shown in band list. figured it was a limitation of the rom (cyanide m) so backed up efs w/twrp, and odin back to vramc3 w/.pit. says no sim again. tried re flashing radio, restoring efs w/twrp. tried going back to my working backup of cyanide m, but still no sim and sgii_repair didnt fix this time. ive been messing with this for a week. any sugestions.
so it just started working again. not sure why, but i was running stock vramc3. backed up efs again, and manually copied efs folder. flashed de-knoxed/deodexed stock nd7. still working. made a backup. flashed cm13. still working. flashed open gapps. still working. installed Pandora and fell asleep listening to music. woke up to no service. reboot, no sim/baseband/imei again. compaired efs to backup, seems the same. overwrote efs with backup, no sim. there is no nv_data.bin in any of the efs saves/backups... checked 2 other i605 note 2's both on mj9, there efs has no nv_data.bin, but they work flawlessly. can anyone conferm if imei data is stored in some other way/place on 4.3+
maybe the nand if failing?
no sim when i went to sleep, working when i woke up... phone + 1x only. maybe the radio is bad... never had issues like this on any phone i worked on. think im going to buy a new phone as the gn2 community is dead and im getting nowhere without help. is there a test/diagnostic app.
through it in my pocket, it stops working... through it in the refrigerator, it starts working... i think its toast

Please forgive me, I searched the forum and didn't see a thread that kind of resembled my problem.
Let me explain my problem, I flashed my rezound to the Stock_Rooted_ICS_4.0.3_Leaked_RUU_3.11.605.1 file about a week ago and things were fine.
So last night I decided to update to the latest leak and it caused my phone to become unstable (reboots, couldn't see my sd card...etc etc).
So now my problems really got worse when I tried to go back to the first leak, but I didn't perform a backup of any kind. I cleared/formatted my data, system, and caches in clockworkmod touch and tried to flash back to the first leak.
My problem now is that I have ICS installed and running, but for some reason it's not recognizing my sim card and I cannot get any reception or data at all. Please can someone guide me through fixing this?
Sounds like you have lost your efs folder, you have no imei. Search on here there are various methods that may save you. Have you backed up the efs folder?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
my phone identity says that I have a IMEI (9900000....). And no, I performed no back up of any kind. I screwed myself.
same thing happened to me. i just disabled fastboot under setting/power and then just powered down the phone and problem stopped, hope it helps
Ok, i'm able to at least make calls now. But I have very poor signal strength (one bar) and 3G only.
did u *228
Don't do *228, the PRL is updated automatically with LTE.
Hi guys,
I wonder if someone can help me with this... really annoying problem!
I was checking out various roms i downloaded here, started with 4.0 aokp which was great, then gave cyanogen 4.2 a try, but then i wanted to go back to Aokp 4.0 cause it seemed to run faster
Now first thing, i couldnt get rid of cyanogen (no offense intended) cause when i wiped all data, cache and dalvik it just took aokp a few seconds to install from CWM recov, that doesnt seem right, right?
Then installed GAPPS, but still it ran on Cyanogen
So, i did a NANDROID backup, which made my phone like before i started with all this..
THIS IS WHERE IT WENT WRONG?
now it just wont read my simcard
i tried my sim in my old phone and that works fine, so the problem is in my phone somehow
is it something about the radio settings specific to my phone and network?
how can i change these settings and are they specific for my provider?
you guys always helped me out so i hope you know what i mean..

I've exactly the same problem.
Are your wifi and BT still OK ?
Is your IMEI (*#06#) still the same as under the battery ?
Was your phone locked ? Did you buy it with a SIM ?
My problem appeared after flashing several different modems/RILS : I got no error warning anywhere, but after reboot, I completely lost my netwerk connection. (no voice calls , no mobile data)
At first I thought a bad RIL driver, so I restored my Nandroid backup from the day before (after wipe cache/wipe dalvik/format system), but still no connection with the netwerk. and can't even make voice calls.
Then I was in panic !
After this I did a complete factory reset, and wiped/formatted cache/dalvik/system/data/SD-card and went in to download mode. After loading a stock ELLA for my region using Odin, still no connection. I was also never asked to enter the PIN-code for my SIM to unlock it.
Damned, this is an embarrassing situation : I can't think of loosing my SG3 for several weeks if I have to send it to Samsung !!
Mu phone is bought without SIM, so it's not SIM-locked.
My Wifi and BT are still OK, my IMEI is also still OK.
Any other ideas, please ?
How do I come in the service mode for the Radio ?
This is the way my netwerk is indicated : a circle with a stripe, much like the famous traffic sign.
Its fixed
So i have no idea how it eventually got fixed but if someone else has this problem, heres what i did:
Full wipe/factory reset blablabla all that
Did Nandroid restore again, put the AOKP ROM and GAPPS back on my phone
Installed ROM which was I9300CEDLI1
Used Odin to install latest CWM, which was already on there, but still
Then booted into CWM and installed .zip of course
This still went suspiciously fast since the very first time it took way longer, that worried me but,
Installed GAPPS again,
Rebooted... IT ASKED FOR MY PIN NUMBER!! hell yes that was what i wanted!
So now it again sees my simcard in there, so now i can make calls end use intnet again!
Still i think it started after the nandroid backup for some reason, or it may have been because of wiping Dalvik Cache?
I have no idea if that even makes sense

Good to hear your problem is fixed !
I'm still not able to make voice calls or enable mobile data : "insert SIM card" is the message I get.
I did already twice a full reset/factory restore and flash a stock ROM using PC Odin, but no avail.
Today I did a restore from my EFS folder using a backup that a had made before the problem appeared, but no avail.
BTW, did you also have the same indication from network status as on my screen-shot ?
Any idea what else I can try ?
I'm getting desperate .....
I'm having the same trouble after doing backup in TWRP when boot up it doesn't recognize the sim card.
I've flash CM10.1 and it only work after i remove the card e put it back on.
Try to see if it something about the simcard.

Rui
Helping a friend, I have a T-Mobile s5 here that was working flawlessly on all stock software. Then installed the latest 2.8.3 TWRP using odin and proceeded to make a full backup including EFS to SD Card.
I installed the later CyanogenMod and gapps and then wanted to return to my stock backup to maintain full support for a Samsung gear watch. Rebooted to TWRP, attempted full-restore and restore said it was completed, but was not. It'd get part-way through recovering files and then jump to completed. Odd.
I then downgraded the recovery to 2.8.1 (my device is running that version and backup/restore seems to work great) and then attempted restore again. Says complete but fails and will not boot. Trying to do an advanced-wipe would give me errors and would not complete a simple wipe of System. I tried to restore again but with using md5 verification. With that enabled, the md5's fail- even on EFS.
I then just stock odin-installed stock firmware. The phone booted just fine, upon setting, network was working perfectly., ESN is good, etc. I then turned on WiFi and things were fine. Connected to a WiFi network and shortly after it would soft reboot itself. It'd do this every time I connected to a WiFi connection. I noticed sometimes when I went into the WiFi panel, there would be a message for a moment saying it was in Factory Mode.
So, it will NOT connect to a WiFi network now but everything else seems to be okay. Because we attempted restore of what seems to be a corrupt backup, I believe this could have caused EFS issues and I do not know what to do to fix this.
I have read so many different things and one being that backing up and then deleting the /EFS folder and rebooting may fix the WiFi issues but I didn't dare mess with that.
Any suggestions?
Hello all.
New poster here, been coming here for some time though for the loads of great information and generally helpful people.
I'm having an issue with my Honor 5x, and I seem to be the only one i can find on this forum having this issue.
The issue that I am having is that I lose the ability to connect to the cellular networks (I am actually running dual-sim) when I load a custom ROM after the first reboot.. The first time this happened, it even lost the IMEI numbers (WTF). I restored from the backup I made, and tried again. I got the same result, after the first reboot, it can no longer find the cellular networks, and when i try to search for network providers, it gives me an error simply saying "Error searching for networks." Restore backup again, flash resurrection rom to see if maybe CM13 is just being stupid with my phone, got no signal right off the bat, and could not find networks.
At this point, I restored the stock recovery, and let it recover my phone to stock, which is where I am at the moment, since it works. Also noteworthy, that every time I restored from backup, the phone had no problems at all connecting to the cellular networks. as well, it never had an issue through all of this with connecting to WiFi.
Relevant Information:
Phone Model: KIW-L24
Build Number: KIW-L24C567B331
Emui Version: 4.0
Android Version: 6.01
Kernel Version: 3.10.49-g472a5b3
Location: United states
Carriers: Cricket, MetroPCS
Bootloader is unlocked
I have not restored root access
I have Flashed TWRP and made a full backup (again)
I'm getting the feeling that it is due to to something that I have forgotten, but I can't seem to think of anything.
Help?
So close, but no cigar.
Still having issues, here's what Ive done so far:
Restored phone completely to stock, leaving only an unlocked bootloader.
Loaded the latest version of TWRP
Re-Rooted the phone
Made a complete backup of the phone, with no partitions left unchecked, in case of a catastrophic failure
Used TWRP to wipe Dalvik/ART, Cache, System, & Data
Loaded the latest CM13 nightly build
Loaded GApps pico version (I don't use many of the Google apps, so I prefer to download the ones that I want)
Wiped Dalvik/ART
Rebooted Phone
At this point, the phone went about its first boot business, loading stuff in the background, optimizing apps for the first use.
I skipped almost all of the first-time setup stuff, no sense in setting it all up if it didn't work this time as well, but connected to WiFi, selected the primary SIM, and activated data on that SIM. This is all normal from my other attempts as well.
Rebooted the phone, when it came back up, I had signal on my phone, and it successfully sent and received messages.
Added my Google account, rebooted again, not getting signal. checked network operator settings, and I get the message stating "Error searching for networks" for both SIM cards.
Removed Google account, changed SElinux settings to permissive, soft reboot, no change.
In the past, I did try wiping Dalvik/ART & cache once this happened, but the only thing that changed is that it caused the process com.android.phone to crash on me repeatedly.
Currently digging around on the net some more to see if maybe there's something that I missed.
Try 1 Sim? Its some bug with dual sim i guess
I will try that when I get a chance, I am currently trying to restore the phone back to stock again after another failed attempt.
Also noteworthy, I had it completely lose the sim cards on me after a restore to the working stock backup that i made earlier in the day yesterday, I had to completely revert to stock (Restore stock recovery, let it rest the phone to stock) then the SIM cards started working again.
This is starting to get rather frustrating.
I'll keep you updated, as I've kinda decided to make this a log of sorts of my experience with this.

I tried that, see my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/help/network-help-t3445510
i dont really know what to do, could the problem be MODEM.img???
Im having the exact same Issue, All roms loose the SIM card so I loose all signal and basically everything... a restart sometimes helps it, tried installing different ROMS, going back to STOCk 5.0.1 or 6.0.1 nothing Helps... NO clue what to do.
Same issue here. Happens on every Rom.
EDIT: Using KIW-L21 (UK)
Unlocked, single sim.
Maybe the it has something to do with modem.img
so i got a replacement phone off my insurance for my s9 + and i did a nandoid backup of everything on my original phone and used it on my new phone exept the efs partition. and there is no sim servies and the phone says "unknown" IMEI" i do have a backup of the efs but restoring from it does nothing however if i factory reset it (using default rom on odin) then the sim serives work(while on android 10), and my orignal phone is android 8.0 and with older firmware while my replacement is android 10.0 with newer firmware. under inspecting the efs files in notepad of the two phones i can see strings of data that are different (obvs) but to me it looks like a different layout, like on the newer firmware it processes/handles it differently, my guess is when using my using my old phones rom and etc the new firmware cant read it? this is all very confusing to me, i thought nandroid backups where simple -_- also ill note that if i dial some commands eg *#06#* it says "sm-g965f is not supported on showIMEI" but if i do the *#*#197328640#*#* nothing happens and servicemode opens but with no options or text... i assume this is because using old rom software on the new firmware isnt communicating right? what would be the best way to get my data, OS, and root on this new phone? im a noob with this, just 1 problem after the other....
also showing unknown baseband
help would be much appreciated,
never mind i fixed it by flashing the orginal baseband partition with carrier configs, my phone now thinks its t mobile when its with three but idc, sim services work lol
