LTE connection issues on LineageOS & Cyanogenmod on SM-G900T - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I recently left the stock rom to install custom firmware on my Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T). I am noticing some strange behavior with LTE, and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing a similar issue. With LineageOS 14.1 (klte) currently, upon rebooting the device, it remains on HSPA+ for at least 10 minutes or so before connecting to LTE. If the device is kept running, and is not turned off or rebooted LTE will persist just fine, even if I change the radio selector to 3G or 2G, it will always go back to functioning LTE. On the Stock rom, I never experienced this issue. I previously ran Android 6.0.1, before upgrading to LineageOS. I have also tried with Cyanogenmod 13 to compare, and experienced the exact behavior. I have tried using the dialer menu on LineageOS (*#*#4636#*#*) to see if changing the radio settings makes any difference, sometimes it will make the device connect to LTE faster, after a reboot. If anyone has any insight on how to correct this that would be great. Thanks.

My current firmware is G900TUVU1GPE1. I am also currently running cyanogenmod 13. I flashed back to stock today to take a look at some settings in the service menu. I tried setting LTE Band preference to 17, and it made no difference upon returning to cm 13.
My current "workaround" in cyanogenmod, after a reboot or poweroff, is to go to the dialer menu (*#*#4636#*#*), change radio to LTE/GSM/CDMA, turn off the radio, select LTE/GSM, turn on the radio, then immediately reboot. After a reboot, I can go to Cellular network settings, toggle 3G, then toggle LTE as preferred. I now have LTE, until the next reboot or poweroff.
I'm wondering if there is something in the stock service mode that has to be set, that cyanogenmod somehow does not have access to?
Thanks

I don't recall anyone else with the same issue. I'd try the latest modem, GPK3.

I just tried out the latest modem (GPK3), and I am still experiencing the same problem unfortunately. I don't believe I mentioned this earlier, but the device is unlocked and I am currently using an AT&T SIM. However, I have had no issue with the LTE persisting on reboot with the stock rom though. I'm curious if an alternate rom might be beneficial, perhaps resurrection remix. Have you ever tried your device with an AT&T SIM? Thanks again.

Partially solved. I discovered now that if I toggle 3G under Cellular Networks before rebooting or turning off the device, I am able to select LTE after a reboot or power off and connect instantly. Perhaps this is somehow related to using an AT&T SIM. This is a little better than before, at least.

I had this issue on CM13, since the CM forums are now gone, it's hard to find the old threads troubleshooting these problems. Here is my solution:
Yes!
Thank you for posting this, my last post was 3 months ago on this issue and I was documenting everything I troubleshooted and getting 0 responses..
There must be something glitched with the APNs on this phone, by default I was only seeing Straight Talk with GID set as the MVNO type, after disabling this I could see more APNs and add more, but could not discard them.
/system/etc/apns_conf.xml - Delete this (you can backup just incase)
Go back to APN Settings and Reset to default, then add your APN.
Once I saw HSPA+ I restarted my phone and got LTE and the radio seems less laggy now, only have been testing for a few minutes now.
Only issue is I restarted with LTE and LTE wouldn't come back, I toggled airplane mode and immediately got LTE (unlike before where the radio would take forever just to get HSPA+)

You can use archive.org to view the old Cyanogenmod forums, the buttons don't usually work, so you will need to open them in new tabs.
https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20...org/topic/120995-cm13-lte-doesnt-work/?page=6
Also, if you have problems deleting that file (or simply renaming) try:
Try to use one of the following ways:
mount -o rw,remount -t rootfs /system
or
mount -o rw,remount -t rootfs rootfs /system
You also can use it for any folder that you need even root (/)

I'm having the exact problem you're having. But it's not just my S5 on LOS 14.1, it's also my roommate with S4 on LOS14.1 and other roommate with S3 on CM13. We're all on Ting, we all started having the same problems at the same time, exactly like you describe.
I called Ting and they told me the towers were being "modernized", and that NONE of these phones had the optimal frequencies to use their new LTE. I got a long email from them about frequency compatibility but my initial research leaves me skeptical. All these phones have the frequencies tmobile says it uses, according to wikipedia.
So, they're sending us new sim cards, which I bet is just another BS fix, just like the 100 times they had me reset my APN settings and pull my battery : p

I installed the latest LineageOS on my S5. I am now seeing network issues. I get drops after calls, and wifi enable/disable. I see a "x" on the bars in the status menu.
If I cycle data on off it seems to reconnect - on but not on full LTE .
After a google search I found what could be the cause, the Verizion radio variant was added to the KLTE builds. You can see it on that forum at reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/605y43/please_dont_add_verizon_variant_into_klte/
I didn't actually try the "fix" they offer there because I don't quite understand it.

I gave it a shot and installed the force_g900f_ril_blobs.zip using TWRP and can report SUCCESS. Its a fix of sorts if you are on T-Mobile using another variant like me, in this case a G900V (S5 Verizon).

4G Issues on CyanogenMod 10.2

I am new to root and ROMs so perhaps I overlooked a setting.
I just rooted my phone and flashed CM 10.2 a few days ago and I cannot get 4G anymore. I can only get 3G. I have tried a few fixes like dialing *#*#4636#*#* and adjusting the APN settings but nothing worked. I have the LTE button ON and I am wondering if I am still getting 4G because I have LTE on and it's just showing 3G. But I don't think that's the case.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

reflash stock rom. make sure you have 4g. flash the vram3c radio then flash cm10.2 rom. you should have no problems with 4g after that.
I will try that. Thanks!

I tried flashing the radio and CM again and sometimes 4G comes up for a few minutes and goes back to 1X. This happens where I have gotten 4G before. Maybe the radio isn't as strong?

My personal experience, living in a fringe signal area, is that AOSP roms just don't have as strong a signal as TW roms (it presumably has to do with how the RIL had to be hacked/reverse-engineered to work for AOSP). I would prefer running AOSP, but unfortunately in my experience on my S3 and Note2, where I am located on the fringe of full 4G coverage areas, I have the same issues as you: on TW, full, fast, 4G; on AOSP, very obviously slow 3G or 1X.
Edit to say I've only tried 4.2.2 ROMs, haven't tried the 4.3 ones yet, so if I'm handing out wrong/outdated info, I'd love to be corrected.
I am now running a stock 4.1.2 ROM and still cannot get 4G. I now for some reason can't even dial *#*#4636#*#*. When I try it just says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, this call cannot be completed as dialed." Anyway to get that number to work so I can check my networks again?

Try going into settings and factory reset phone now. If that doesnt work, reboot into stock recovery and factory reset from there and reboot. That seems to restore signal for those of us that got stuck in roaming mode from the Carbon thread. Might help your problem too
So I decided to re-flash CyanogenMod 10.1, adjusted the APN settings again, and I have 2 bars of 4G right now. Usually 4G will flash a couple times and change to 3G, but it is staying 4G, so hopefully it stays that way!
Well it stayed 4G for a bit until I turned WiFi on. The moment I turned it on, my 4G went to 3G. I turned WiFi off and I still have 3G. Anyone know what would cause this?
EDIT: My network type shows eHRPD with 3G, where as when I had 4G (before I turned my WiFi on) it showed LTE. If this helps any.

Where do you live, i know the mid Circle drive all the way over across platted to the airport are just dead zones. I lived on Verde drive and rarely had good signal, then when i moved up circle behind the bowling alley i never had a good signal. Just something about the antennae in that area. T-mo is a complete bust in that area. But i'm sure you probably all the way over on the Nevada side completely making what i said irrelevant.

Do a search on towers in your areas. If I remember correctly the closest tower to you in right by the interstate by the new (now not so new) MCD's in Security. That tower had alot of problems in the area past the Olympics complex all the way back to Peterson because of the radio towers for the Jets. I have been gone for almost 3 yrs so don't take what i say as truth tho. Just how it was when i was there.

I've had that problem before. .I used a mod like this.
This mod is from DroidXcon, Try this and hopefully it will work. (make a backup of your buld.prop first)
Instructions:
1)Go to market install BuildProp Editor
2)Once installed find and open Build Prop Editor
3)Hit the menu button and select Edit
4)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
5)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen(looks like a disk)
6)Once this is done saving restart the phone
7)After restarting go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>Menu Button>+ New APN
8)Add desired carriers APN info, when finished hit menu button and save
9)Power down and change to your desired SIM card if you hadn't already done so
10)Power back on and go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
11)Select the respective APN listing and then you should have working data

I tried this but having the same problem, so I decided to save the APN each time I edited an item, and every time I would change the MNC and save, it would not be on my APN list, and it would be blank again.
Bump... also having this issue. Trying CM 10.2 for the first time since August. It had Bluetooth issues back then, so I've been running Bean's ROM until yesterday. Can't get 4G serivce in what is absolutely a saturated 4G area...
Was able to fix the issue by wiping the phone completely (including internal storage!), installing Bean's ROM, doing a factory reset, then coming back.
FWIW I always wipe internal storage when going back and forth between 4.1 and 4.2+ roms, seems to alleviate any SD card issues that can arise from the changes to filesystem in 4.2.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 11 3g Connectivity Issue

Hey,
Just rooted and flashed CM 11 onto my HTC one and everything is working perfectly besides 3g. The only issue I have is that the 3g isn't working very well, if at all. Sometime I can get it going for a couple of seconds but that's often it. Sometimes it modulates between 3g and h before shutting off.
I checked the APN so I don't think that's the problem. Has anybody else had similar issues? Have any solutions? Do you think I'll just have to wait for the next nightly to come out and patch this over?
Thanks!
Still Nothing
I've tried cycling down to other versions. Most notably stable versions of both 10.2 and 10.1. Even in these stable versions 3g connectivity doesn't work. This leads me to suspect I'm missing a file. I noticed threads elsewhere in which people had to flash special files for the radio? Not sure if this has to with this.
Also something about S-Off. Could really use the help because right now 3g doesn't work in any version of CM.
You're saying you get H often but not 3g? Because that's how it is supposed to work
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
Nothing
Even when it goes to H it immediately shuts off. Nothing really sticks for more than a couple seconds (3g nor H).

access the phone’s test menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#* From there, tap Phone Information and you just need to change the “Preferred Network Type” and try and force the settings you want.

Did Darklord N5 now I only have data for a few min then it say's no data connection?

I did the build number Darklord N5 (looking at settings), Kernal 3.4.0 Kernal now I only have data for a few min then it say's no data connection? It's a Sprint Note 3 and still using Sprint. But the model number no longer says SM-900P and now says SM-9020C. The file I used was DarkLordN5.RC2.1.SamsungViet.vn Sorry I'm a little new to this but I do tend to follow directions well.
It's like Sprint lets me have data and then see's something it doesn't like about the mod and shuts off my data. It always works at first then goes away within 5 min and says no data connection and roaming is turned off. And if I get data again will I still have LTE? So far I just saw 3G when it was working.
Other than that I love the update but I can't do without mobile data! Please help. I've looked everywhere I could think of on here and it's been almost two weeks without data.
Thanks!
Jim

That rom is kinda old and has bugs. If you want to use the latest note 5 port, I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-base-n9200zcu2apa1-stablefast-31-01-t3308842
It's based off the last version of darklord's rom and tweaked/fixed it's issues like youtube lag...
It's tricky to get data from it. I use Ringplus so it might work without tinkering with sprint natively.
Just install rom normally, with SPR csc, and see if you get data like that.
If it doesn't here's what I did:
I had to install it with the XAS csc (the SPR csc won't let me change apn's but you're free to try). I then switch radio to cdma or anything else until the apn settings show up AND can be edited in Mobile Networks settings(LTE radio won't me edit). Then I delete all apn's because it won't use the custom ringplus apn i put in by default(yes, I choose it and it still won't use it). Once i'm all done, i set radio back to "cdma/gsm/lte" to get back lte/cdma data (for some reason the "cdma/lte" setting won't work for me). I used app's to get me to the radio and apn settings. There's a few out just take your pick.
Might take some trial and error to get the apn's to show up but in the end i have zero issues with data. good luck.
Thank you very much for your detailed reply. I was wondering if it was old. But being pretty new to this I'm going to have to do some research to try to digest all you said! Although yesterday I did successfully replace the screen/chassis of my old Note 3 which required switching over many components. Now just waiting on a new power on switch. So I'll be back.....

just got oneplus x flahsed to cm 13 nighly mobile data stops working after reboot

phone works great then reboot no mobile data have to keep turning data off and on and refreshing network I get a LTE! symbol. The signal goose up and down very fast. Is this a bug in the rom, Or a bad APN setting? after like 15-20 mins I get it working. I really want to run cm13 or android 6 whats a good stable rom or should I just flash back to factory?
Thanks

I have same problem on LG G2 with CM 13. I have exclamation icon on carrier signal. I tried everything
Turn on/off airplane mode Change mobile networks settings (change same as original firmware)
Still same. Must be fix
https://www.reddit.com/r/cyanogenmod/comments/3xm0mo/mobile_data_not_working_cm13/
gess it may be a problem with cm13 guess I will try to flash a different ROM
Im using this ROM, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/development/rom-temasek-s-unofficial-cm-13-t3304423
fully working, no data problem
only one known BUG, but its related to radio not to any ROM. When you loosing you signal frequently in your area, mobile data stops working and you have to turn airplane mode on/off. Solution to this is to use 2G only.
check your APN settings
Check your apn settings. There are probably wrong. Check your carriers website and the apn settings that were included in your rom. I had this problem with a cm based rom and with salt / orange in Switzerland
I have this problem aswell, everytime I hit the switch to turn on the data and I go back to my home screen, it just switches off. I have this with temasek's CM and the official CM patch aswell, I checked my APN settings and they are fine...
I also noticed that in the settings menu for Data usage the date where it changes doesn't show up, there is only a little arrow for the drop down menu but touching it doesn't do anything and it doesn't display a date aswell.
I have a similar issue, basically I have absolutely no data both on the Temasek and the standard cm13, 17/05 version. With clean flash and dirty flash.
Checked APN settings, tried to play with airplane mode and SIM card settings, force 3g instead of LTE, but nothing so far, so I'm also very interested in a fix.
I'll try to update to latest nightly to see if that helps... Carrier is Free in France.
Thanks,

Mobile Network Issue Lineage OS (HELP!)

I'm on a pocophone f1 (64gb) running lineage os (android 9) and the latest version of magisk with no problems..... Almost.
I noticed that where I got 4g cell service, I get h+. No 4g (much less lte.)
Instead of saying "oh well" I decided to take to Google and tackle the issue. What I found is that sometimes you need to edit some things in the Mobile Network Options (this was the case on my old phone), well to my dismay I found that clicking on the Mobile Network Options did either of these or both.
-instantly take me back to the main settings screen with a "com.android.phone keeps stopping" message if attempted multiple times,
-stay on the same screen after I click it, the signal strength indicator in the notification bar/status bar will go blank for a couple seconds before redetecting my mobile network provider and go back to its h+ signal.
Please help I don't want to have to reset my phone unless it is the ONLY option, I already reinstalled magisk via twrp, I checked for lineage os updates and restarted my phone several times. I know that the pocophone's cell band works with my provider because I got 4g/lte before I put this custom rom on this.
(I am using Cricket Wireless BTW)
Thanks in advance.
Did you have a resolution that worked? I'm on Cricket in Virginia, US and was curious since I saw how few 4G bands it has.

I had returned to MiUi for a while but after a couple months decided to go back to lineage using the now updated firmware.
I'm still using it and it is working fine, the crashes in the settings were fixed, but I still only get h+ data. I switched preferred networks and in the busiest town near me (Jackson CA) I was able to get a tiny short lived sliver of LTE, before getting no signal at all. So I stuck with H+ because that was the only network I got reception on.
I understand that the pocophone has limited LTE signal in the US, but I used to be able to get 4g on MiUi. I'm planning on upgrading to the Mix 3, but I'd still like to get this resolved for future pocophone users.
Quick Update, I still have my good 'ol poco f1, still with h+ data, but I didnt really notice speed differences from 4g that much, but when I go to folsom, (where I go to college now), I get normal LTE.
I'm switching to a fairly new OS called POSP https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development/rom-posp-v3-0-0-alpha-1-beryllium-t3965821 which brings android 10 to the poco f1, will report that later on in a different thread :3

POCO F1 has modified vendor image! if you are using lineage of 7-8-2019 (before it got reported and development stopped) , that version had its own vendor image making 400mb LOS to 700+mb LOS,
having said that!
you still need to flash firmware , use 9.6.27-9
https://mirror.akhilnarang.me/MIUI/beryllium/
now lets say you are on that firmware!
modified vendor creates strange Network issues and com.android.xxxx crashing notifications if YOU EVER HAVE/HAD used USB TETHERING on 3g network!
the modifited vendor dumps 3g log stats on /data/system/netstats which makes network configuration faulty and system UI keeps crashing restarting making mobile data also crash and restart
Perminant solution is NONE
temporary solution
1. avoid usb tethering on 3g
2. whenever such happens, put device on AIRPLAIN MODE and DELETE all the files in /data/system/netstats and REBOOT POCO
