Hi all,
I am hoping that you can confirm a few things that I have read here and there. I have just ordered a H850, from what I have read, when it has been upgraded to Nougat, the bootloader can be unlocked and for warranty purposes most importantly it can be flashed back to stock and the bootloader locked again. If not I will have to go without root to maintain the warranty.
From my experience, I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted my mobile, I installed several roms, because I had a problem with the screen, when playing videos.
When you can not fix it, reinstall a stock rom, block the bootloader with adb, and call the technical service.
I changed the terminal for a new one.
Because the problem was the screen was wrong.
I already tell you that it is my case, everything will depend on the technical service that manages it, and the type of fault.
P.D. Try the cell phone before unlocking it.

Currently my wife's phone is unlocked. I am a noob and I am just getting into the flash/root android community so I upgraded her stock phone to JI6 on Eclair. As a result, her unlocking codes are not easily accessible anymore but the phone is unlocked. I'm wondering if I need to risk going through the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822008&page=11 (under Helroz) to find the unlock codes for the phone or I can just continue flash in Roms and kernels on her phone.
I guess the real question is: how important is it to have the unlocking codes if your phone is already unlocked and under what circumstances would the phone relock itself?
Thank you in advance for all replies.
Unlocked as in.... you can change out the sd card? Otherwise, if you have already flashed a differnet ROM, kernel, or modem or whatever, I don't think it would be different if you did it again.
But I would assume once you're unlocked...well you're unlocked, right?
Lol I am unlocked...I'm using the t mobile phone on the wind network I
n toronto so I can say with certainty that I'm unlocked. The reason why I'm asking is because we have two viberants (one that I have the unlock code and one that I don't ). being the noob that I am, I retired to manualy root my phone (the one I have the unlock code) using the update.zip file found in the sticky noob guideline.that one somehow re-locked my phone but I had the unlock codes so out was no problem. That's why I'm paranoid now about the phone relocking itself and I won't have the unlock codes.
Your right about it not asking for the unlock codes after rom and kernel updates.I'm hoping the situation where I re-locked the phone is a special, rare, and unique case. I'm going for some confirmation on this.
How do I tell if my bootloader is unlocked?
I just got the pone and haven't done anything to it yet but I'm seeing options I wasn't expecting in a locked phone like the ability to enable USB debugging and the ability to instanll non-market apps. So could that mean my phone already has an unlocked bootloader? How do I check?
No - the phones all have that. These have nothing to do with unlocked B/L. The ADB connectivity doesn't function as root though.
Standard Android settings...
Thanks. Guess that means I still have root the phone sometime. At least I'm on 2.3.3 and not 2.3.4 so I should be able to avoid the battery issue.
No battery issue here...
There is no battery issue with 2.3.4 it only happens when you try downgrading to 2.3.2 I believe (which I am not going to test myself, there is already enough people who have fallen into this trap), you can still root 2.3.4 too with rootxperia, the only thing that's not possible (yet) is doomlords kernel for overclocking and that's it, everything else is good, and 2.3.4 is so much better over 2.3.3. quicker, panorama pictures, and lots more including swipe inbuilt into the firmware
I can only root with rootXperia if I have an unlocked bootloader. And to me the process for unlocking the bootloader looks trickier than the process for rooting. So yeah I meant the issue when downgrading to 2.3.2.
It's not too tricky, get alejandrissimo to help you out or you can try the offical sony way. but yeah, I forgot that you couldn't use rootxperia without a unlocked bootloader, my bad. it's worth doing though to be honest.
I don't think I can keep a stable enough connection to Mexico for Alejandrissimo to help me out. Also as far as I know SE hasn't made that site yet that they wanted to allow bootloader unlocking (and even if they did it was gonna be region based so my region most likely won't be supported till 2020 or something like that).
At this point however I'm not noticing much I'd like to have and don't that a root would provide me with. I don't want to try custom roms, I'm perfectly happy with stock and my need for a better battery icon is taken care of by a widget so that just leaves better backups (since to full back everything up these apps needs root access)...but the thing is I probably would only need a backup if I wanted to root or flash something in the first place.
Okay fair enough then, yeah I didn't think about the stable connection. well you don't need a real stable connection to get the IMEI code to sony to get the unlock code, the bootloader unlock is here for the neo -> http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions I don't think it is based on regions, however if the phone is locked to a provider, (from experience) I don't think it will work, (is why I couldn't use this method) up to you if you want to give it a shot though. good luck.
Oh wow thanks. I didn't know about that all. Does the bootloader get relocked upon doing a PC Companion update just like the root is lost? Because I notice that says not to do an OTA update after the bootloader has been unlocked that way.
The BL will remain unlocked whatever you do. Only deliberately relocking using a specific flash regime (available on XDA) will work.
The OTA warning is because once the BL is unlocked, OTA updates may/can fail badly. PC C is fine.
BTW, all this information is already on this forum...
Yeah sorry. I admit I haven't looked around enough. But I thought it was slightly different for every phone.
Search is your friend mate, do a bit of research and enjoy using your phone.
So I discovered a slight gap on certain edges of my One, which I got a week ago, and want to return it to AT&T for one that hopefully has no issues, but I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed CM 10.1 on there. I searched through google and the forums here on XDA to find a method to relock the bootloader and go back to stock, but my search was fruitless. Apparently something called an RUU was needed? And according to the last post in this thread, that isn't available.
Is the RUU available now? Or is it currently impossible to relock the bootloader?
If so, would I be able to pull off just flashing the stock ROM back onto the phone and bringing it into AT&T? I feel like the only way they would realize something was different with the phone would be if they rebooted it, as I highly doubt most of the people in that store could even get into the bootloader screen. They had trouble syncing my google account.
Unless, of course, they send it back to the manufacturer and then THEY say that the warranty is voided because of the unlocked bootloader... but I don't know if they go through all that trouble in this situation?
Thanks for the help.

For a quick and easy way, just boot into fast boot and cmd "fastboot oem lock"
The only problem with that is that if they DO boot into the bootlaoder, it will say "RELOCKED" instead of "LOCKED"
The longer way, is to S-OFF (find it in the international forum) and then follow instructions there to put the "LOCKED" text back.

Get S-OFF, I was able to remove TAMPERED and change my UNLOCKED to LOCKED. You can also flash a modded HBoot that will take the red letters away and change the text from S-OFF to S-ON this will allow it to look like you never touched a thing
To get S-OFF I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
To mod your HBoot go through the post from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726 (to download the HBOOT and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786498 to download the tool to create the modified HBOOT
But to let you know, I have returned 2 HTC Ones with unlocked bootloaders and AT&T did not say anything. Just flash the stock rom, make sure fastboot in enabled and leave it booted to the set up screen. Above is for if you want to be thorough and make sure you cover all your bases.
I just bought a new at&t HTC One (M8) and I'd like to have a fresh stock backup in case of return/warranty problems. I'd like to make this myself so I can ensure that I'll be able to put the exact software that came with my phone back if need be. Also I'd just like to know how to do this in general. What I've found via search has been for rooted phones or different brands. Is it possible to use ADB or any other tool to do this? I guess I'm confused because I see posts for flashing back to stock. How do devs get these stock roms? If someone could point me to a good guide/tutorial it would be much appreciated.
Not without a rooted device or an unsecure [email protected] backup...there is an ruu posted for the 1.58.502.1, thats as close to being a backup without altering the phone in anyway
As long as you are a current account holder, AT&T does not give a crap what software is on your phone, bootloader unlocked, even a custom ROM installed in regards to warranty service based on many reports on XDA.
If you are still wondering about returning to stock, as mentioned in the above, your version (AT&T) if fortunate enough to have a 1.58 RUU. The ROM Update Utility is a useful means of installing a full stock image (ROM, radio, recovery, etc.) via connection to a PC.
But it can still be determined the bootloader is unlocked, no matter what you do to the phone to return it to stock. Your IMEI is tracked by HTCDev.com when you unlock the bootloader. But again, as long as you go through AT&T for warranty service (highly recommended for this reason) they don't care if the phone is modded.
I believe the stock ROMs you mention are system dumps done after bootloader unlock.
Hello,
About a few days ago I just upgraded from Nexus 5x to xiaomi redmi 5 plus
and I missed the google camera with portrait mode.
if I unlock the bootloader and instal twrp to just to add this line"persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1"
and flash stock recovery and lock it again so I can get updates I am gonna lose my warranty?
sorry for this silly question but India chat support says that unlocking bootloader will not void warannty but if you install custom rom then it will void the warranty ...and some other people (and sites says unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty)
sorry for my bad English
When you open the MiUnlock app (the Windows executable that unlocks the phone after the 15 days wait after binding the MI Account to your device and after receiving the confirmation SMS for your MI account), a Disclaimer appears where it says among other stuff, that you'll have a less secure device and that some MIUI freatures like Find my device or OTAs won't work anymore. But at any moment anything is said about voiding warranty. Some carriers in my country (Mexico) sell the phone with the bootloader already unlocked (because they disable the SIM2 slot) but they still provide warranty service (crappy, but it's there).
Unfortunately, some other sellers won't provide any kind of warranty if the bootloader is unlocked, because they don't know anymore if you ran a custom ROM with faulty drivers that caused a hardware failure. So at the end the warranty service depends on where you bought the phone.
as a sidenote, be VERY careful when re-locking the bootloader. If you lock the bootloader and it has TWRP or a custom rom installed, you'll have a cute softbrick.
what about gearbest?

If you bought it from gearbest you don't have warranty at all. Just unlock the bootloader and keep it unlocked, there's no point in re-locking it.
You still get updates and everything else after unlocking the bootloader, but you must un-root and install the stock recovery before installing the update, otherwise MIUI will say that the install failed.
After the update, you can re-root and reinstall TWRP.
thank you very much
you solve all my questions!
