Has anyone found, or is able to port, the hotspot sharing app from MM on the S7 series which allows sharing of a wifi connection (not just 3g/4g mobile data) as described in this article

Ever since fqrouter2 stopped working I've been looking for a wifi repeater for S5, hopefully this could be the answer if it can be ported.
Thank you :good:

Hi all,
I know the thread's title may sound ridiculous, but it's really not.
I'm looking for a way to share my mobile wifi connection (I'm currently using the latest HTC one device) via wifi.
Meaning, I'm connected to a wifi network from my Android device, and I want to share this connection with other laptop/pad/mobile devices via wifi.
So my device acts both as wifi client to a hot-spot infra, and also like a hotspot infra for other devices.
In the past, I did it successfully using my iphone and MyWi app.
I've spent quite some time goggling for a solution, but non of the threads/articles I've read really address this problem, as most of them refer to sharing the mobile data connection rather than the wifi connection.
this is the closest thread I've found (from 2010) and it refers to wifi sharing via USB and not wifi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276723
the reason I'm looking for such a way is that I have a iPass certificate on my mobile, which enables me to connect freely to iPass wifi hotspots around the world (popular at airports for example) and I want to use this connection with my laptop or my friends mobile devices.
can anyone shed some light on this subject?
I have an un rooted n9 (wifi only), and im trying to bridge an authenticated wifi network to a hotspot using my phone and tab. Seems the n9 doesnt support wifi hotspot, or sharing its own data connection - did i miss anything?

I used phone Hotspot to set mine up in Best Buy parking lot. Not sure what you are trying to do.
Im trying to connect one device to the other (works bluetooth phone -> tab) and then connect a 3rd device to the wifi hotspot on the 2nd. I can do this with 2 phones, but need the nexus 9 to share its internet connection for this to work.
if I understand, you are attempting to daisy chain devices, won't happen unless your tablet and phone has 2 WiFi radios, haven't heard of any standard non specialty devices like that. you can either be host, or receiver, not both. you can only try to use phone to Bluetooth tether, and maybe chain them like that somehow. I haven't tried it myself.
you can see if your device will recognize a WiFi USB attached to a host cable.. just an idea..

I would create a wireless hotspot with my Nexus 9 but it looks all the tethering options are missing. Maybe because it lacks the LTE modem. This is quite stupid: I can get the connection from a bluetooth/usb connection.
Is anyone having issues getting the Bluetooth connection to hold? I can pair the devices but they disconnect as soon as they connect. I've tried clearing the Bluetooth sharing on both my phone and the nexus 9 but still nothing. :S

Hello there, it's been a long time since I've posted on XDA but I require assistance. I purchased an S6 Edge a few months back and everything is working as should apart from bluetooth tethering.
I have tried with my laptop and my nexus 7 which I have installed in my car, both of which worked fine with my previous HTC M8. After setting up tethering on my phone, the other devices connect and the icon appears indicating that tethering is active and an internet connection is available, but I am not able to actually connect to the internet.
My Samsung is not rooted, unfortunately, as I don't want to trip 'knox' for warranty purposes.
Just to clarify that I am doing everything correctly, I select 'mobile hotspot and tethering' from the settings menu of my S6 Edge, then 'Bluetooth tethering'. This turns on Bluetooth and enables tethering. From my paired devices (Laptop and nexus 7) I select 'Use as internet connection'. The devices connect and the tethering icon appears. No internet connection is available.
I imagine this isn't a common issue as after searching I didn't find any threads indicating the same problem.
What would be the best way to troubleshoot this?
EDIT: I would like to add that Bluetooth file sharing works without problems.
EDIT: I would also like to add that my phone is SIM free, and I use the same provider as with my previous HTC M8 that worked fine.
My android version is still 5.1.1 as the update is not available in my area yet.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Rob.
Update: I manually updated my phone to 6.0.1 (without rooting) as I never got the update pushed to my phone. I am still having the same bt tethering issue. My phone says I'm connected and sharing internet with my other device (nexus 7) but that device isn't connected. My s6 is connected fine, it's just not sharing properly.
I get the same results with my laptop.
Can any body suggest any fixes??
EDIT: If my phone is connected to wifi, it will share that connection. If it is connected to 3g/4g it doesn't share the connection even though the phone itself is connected.
Bump.
I suppose nobody is having this problem. Is there any way to debug what is happening?
I am having the same problem. Trying to bluetooth tether my Galaxy s6 edge to Galaxy S2 tab. Both on Android 6.0.1 It appears that the connection is established, but internet does not work on the tablet. Let me know if you had any luck.
The new s7 has an app that shares wifi (not the same as tethering data or being a Hotspot). So you can get wifi on your device, and then share it - for example, wheneber you have to pay for wifi).
Is there an app out there that does this?
You are looking for WIFI repeater (WIFI Extender). I read that fqrouter2 can do it, but will be need root. You can try.
Hello PRO-I users, greetings from Korea.
I've been planning to purchase a Pro-I device, and I wonder if this device has a Wi-Fi relay function, i.e. mobile hotspot with Wi-Fi signal.
The problem is this; in South Korea there are lots of carrier-based Wi-Fi spots that requires EAP-SIM or EAP-AKA authentication to connect, which makes devices without specific SIM almost impossible to connect to secure Wi-Fi connection. In select Samsung and LG(RIP) devices there is a function called Wi-Fi sharing, which establishes Hotspot connection from Wi-Fi signals(NOT from 2G, 3G, LTE or 5G) under the device's hotspot name.
Example) Samsung Galaxy Note9(N960N)
1) Connect carrier Wi-Fi(KT WIFI)
2) Set device SSID as NOTE9-WIFI
3) Turn on Wi-Fi sharing
4) Turn on Mobile Hotspot function
5) Use my PC to connect NOTE9-WIFI, and connect to the internet with KT WIFI signals
Since I use quite a lot of non-SIM devices on the go, the availability of this function would be quite crucial. I've been searching high and low and I couldn't find a single clue of this.
Owners of PRO-I device, I humbly ask you guys a favor to find if this is possible. Is it possible to turn on mobile hotspot function with Wi-Fi connection?
Hi.
Got mine yesterday ... answer is a negative, unfortunately, as soon as you turn on the wifi hotspot, you lose wifi and it switches to mobile data.
