Hello everyone, today almost all of us know about rooting flashing new roms kernels etc etc. Even I have done this all stuff many times in my Samsung S3. But I always think how can we protect our Android from stealing. Anyone can break password, our fingerprint, anyone can wipeout our data.even some antitheft apps will not survive after flashing new roms.
Sometimes i think there should be option to lock bootloader, recovery with custom password or somekind of protection to prevent anyone to wipe or flash new roms.
If someone has some ideas to share plz share. It will be grateful. Thanks.

If you want ultimate protection then you will have to sacrifice custom ROM and modding.
MIUI has a great anti theft system especially for Redmi note 3.
Folks in MI have thought about anti-theft serious.
1) To unlock the boot loader, same account is required by the MI Flash unlock tool that is been linked in the device.
This prevents unauthorized person(theft) to unlock the boot loader and flash custom roms.
2) Even if we flash using mi flash tool or wipe data on device, on setting up miui we need to signing using the account previously linked if you don't sign the device locks its self.
This makes it impossible to turn of the MI cloud feature unless signed into the account.
So everything is linked to the account.
There is two vulnerability that I found in this system.
1) There are many ways to unofficial unlock the devices.
Only MI can fix this either by pulling out all firmware that have bug (which is almost impossible) or by pushing OTA which will not allow to flash affected firmwares .
2) MI account is usually linked with a number which might be present in your phone this can allow to reset the MI account password.
This can be easy fixed by setting pin to the sim card.(It under security settings).
Conclusion : If you want to stay safe then flash MIUI Stock ROM , lock the boot loader & set a pin to the sim card.
You will have ultimate anti theft system unless the theft knows how to unofficially unlock the boot loader.
PS : Press that thanks button if I helped.

Lol, user can easily flash custom rom by replacing recovery in fastboot rom and flashing via edl.

Hello everyone,
tl;dr version
What's the best way to install a custom rom on the Redmi Note 3 out of the box with a locked bootloader. What is the best rom to use for maximum functionality.
I have been following these forums for a while, but haven't got around to creating an account and posting. I'm new to flashing roms, and my experience goes as far as following guides to flash a Samsung S4, and a Samsung S2. The Samsung phones were really easy to flash, and I just followed guides in a robotic way without ever actually learning anything. For the record, CM12 on the Samsung S2, which I'm using because I smashed my S4, is absolutely unbelievable in regards to the increase of performance.
One of my work friends was telling me that he has a mate who bought a Chinese phone really cheap and flashed it. Getting excited, knowing exactly where I need to look to flash a phone, I impulsively researched these phones and bought a Redmi Note 3 for $173 AUD. It's on the way in the mail. Having looked at the hardware specs, this price is absolutely ridiculous. I was more swayed to buy the Redmi Note 3, because multiple sites reported that the second sim slot can hold a micro SD card. The only downside I can see to this phone is the bloatware and stock rom that it comes with, and the reason for this post is to discuss the best way in which to flash a new rom. If you have managed to read this far, thanks for reading my life story!
Having limited experience in the phone flashing world, from researching it looks like the flashing process is something like:
Unlock the bootloader
Flash a recovery program
Use the recovery to flash rom/app
My understanding of the bootloader and why it needs to be unlocked is limited. I've done some research around it, and this is what I have found. The bootloader is the first thing that runs when the phone starts up, loads the kernel and the rom, and verifies that you have a legit recovery program. It needs to be unlocked so you can put a custom recovery on to your phone. Once you have that sorted, flashing roms from the recovery is a pretty straight forward process. If I'm wrong, please correct me, because this is what I have understood from looking around and I'm not confident about my understanding.
Unlocking the Bootloader On The Redmi Note 3
Having read on multiple sites, this looks like the biggest constraint when trying to flash a custom rom on the Redmi Note 3. This is because Xiaomi have locked the bootloader for this device, when most other phones do not have this problem. Most flashing guides for the Redmi Note 3 assume that the boodloader is unlocked or list it as a pre-requisite, so I'm unsure what path to take here. From research, it looks like there are 3 possible ways to move forward from here:
Official Bootloader Unlock
Unofficial Bootloader Unlock
Bypassing The Bootloader Unlock
Because my account is new, the following links aren't hyperlinked and in a good format due to permissions. Sorry! It'd be sweet if a mod could edit it.
1. Official Bootloader Unlock
This seems like the most legit way to unlock the bootloader. Apparently you just go to: endotmiuidotcom/unlock/ and apply for an unlock by using google translate and creating an account. People have reported response times taking over a month, not getting a successful application, or the unlocking process getting stuck at 50%. To me this doesn't sound appealing and I'm not too keen on waiting a month to find I'm unsuccessful in applying.
2. Unofficial Bootloader Unlock
This process is found here: endotmiuidotcom/thread-253680-1-1.html and looks to be a bit tedious. Apparently there is a high chance for a brick using this method, and some custom recoveries don't work well with it. My other concern is that if the brickrate is high, and this method was released around april, it could be possible that Xiaomi has made some further updates, further increasing the chance for a brick.
3. Bypassing The Bootloader Unlock
I found this process on a post from these forums, which then sourced a reddit post. The reddit post is pretty straight forward and can be found here: wwwdotredditdotcom/r/Xiaomi/comments/5611tg/psa_you_can_flash_twrp_and_subsequently_cm13/ .This process works by flashing a legit miui rom, but by flashing it with a modified recovery image, in particular, a custom recovery like TWRP. Having considered the three methods, this looks like the easiest way of getting it done.
My questions are: has anyone done any of these three methods successfully? What method do you recommend? Have I missed anything? Are there any other methods?
My understanding is once the bootloader is unlocked, you install TWRP. Then once that is installed you flash whatever rom you want, which leads into my next question. What is the best ROM to use?
It looks like the most viable roms are the CM roms. I've seen CM 13 and CM 14, are people running CM 13 instead of 14. Why? Is it more stable? Ideally I'm after the most functionality possible. Are there any other roms that you'd recommend flashing? When flashing roms are you supposed to do all the standard things that you would on other phones, factory wipe/cache wipe/davlik cache wipe, flash rom, flash gapps? I've also seen that CM needs firmware flashed before the rom, will this mess anything up and can it brick? Can you do all this stuff from TWRP with a locked bootlader (method 3)? I really like having notification badges too, what will I need to do for this to happen?
If you have read all of this, I really appreciate you taking the time. I hope I haven't broken any forum rules in the process.
dude,it's too much to read for people. I can't believe i read it,anyway.
about unlocking the bootloader process(I'm telling you about my experience):
---step 1 : you sign up for a mi account, choose your country and verify your phone number>login to your mi account on your device(remember to enable every feature on your mi account on your device, you can disable backup)> go to https://i.mi.com and check your device,it should be there> go to http://en.miui.com/unlock/ , write for example dear sir or madam, I'm an austrailian developer and I want to try and work on projects like cyanogen mods and other custom roms. sincerely,JaFranchise - alright, after finishing the writing go to translate.google.com and translate it to chinese, then paste on the form, then apply, you will confirm your request by entering the code that was sent to you via mi message --- for me it took about 3 to 4 hours to receive my confirmation.
---step 2 : first try this,if you stuck on 50% error, you will try step 3,so here is the instruction,
sign in to your mi account on your device(enable find device),also on i.mi.com(to check your device). enable developer options,OEM unlocking and USB debugging. > download the latest version of MIFlashUnlock tool and log into your account link : http://bigota.d.miui.com/miflashunlock/MiFlashUnlock_1.1.0317.1_en.zip> turn off your device and go to fastboot (press and hold volume - and power button at the same time), connect your device to your PC, click unlock(on MIFlashUnlock tool), after your bootloader successfully unlocked, click on reboot.
---step 3 : this is for kenzo devices(redmi note 3 pro - snapdragon650) - if you're using redmi note 3(mediatekX10), you should download the roms(stable and developer) according to your device
you need to switch from global stable to global developer rom, download the latest global developer rom on android lollipop(5.1). link : http://bigota.d.miui.com/6.8.18/miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_6.8.18_d0da79d09e_5.1.zip> after downloading the rom, rename the file name to Update.zip then copy to internal storage(in downloaded_rom folder).> open updater app, select choose update package, go to downloaded_rom folder and select Update.zip. It will verify your rom and install it. > download the latest global developer rom from en.miui.com/download-301.html , repeat the instruction or just simply download via updater > then follow step 2
I think,It's better you first unlock bootloader, then mention me in the comments to go through that(about cm and aosp roms and flashing instructions) process.
goodluck.
Thanks for your reply and for reading it all. So your advice is unlock the bootloader the official way. I know it's too much to read, that's why I put a tl;dr section, because I probably wouldn't read that much! The last thing I want to do is annoy people.
Cheers for specifically telling me what I'd need to write in the application, massive help. Maybe some people have been unsuccessful because they haven't said the right things.

It's alot easier than it sounds. The hardest part is probably getting the drivers on your computer installed properly to unlock bootloader/miflash. The good thing about this device is if you brick it, it's fairly simple to unbrick via the edl method but yea, official unlock bootloader - flash zcx twrp - make a backup - flash away

So it looks like official unlock is the way to go about things. Why ZCX version of TWRP?
ZCX is essentially the official TWRP, but with some extra stuff in it to allow it to support F2FS, if I'm not mistaken. Since you've decided to unlock your bootloader the official way, both ZCX and the official twrp are fine.

Or did you buy this phone used and it's asking for the previous owner's Google account?

I have a similar question. I have my sister's Le 2 and its binded with her number (not email id) . whenever i try to factory reset it , it asks for a password. i have tried several times but every time there is server error. So should i wipe it via recovery and after it boots will it ask me to enter the binded account id and password again? additionally .. if i flash twrp and another rom will the phone still remain binded ? (will i be able to boot in other rom ? ) thank you in advance

Heyyo, hmm tbh I'm not too sure if it would or not... But the hurdle might be that you'd still need your sister's sim card or number in order to get into the phone and enable bootloader unlocking if it won't disable via fastboot.
Please try following this guide

Heyyo, Yeah either a custom version of EUI ROM or any custom Nougat ROM. I would recommend avoiding the Oreo builds (Omni 8, AICP 13 or LineageOS 15) as they are very experimental for now with many bugs that need fixing.
I'm uncertain which custom EUI ROMs are the best as I've never tried them.
For custom Nougat ROMs? For stability and the only custom ROM with Google Certification for SafetyNet? OmniROM 7. It's built on the solid Darkobas kernel and has built in Dolby Atmos support and IR Blaster. All with selinux set as enforcing so your phone is as secure as possible. Imo it's the best custom ROM that andr68rus built for Nougat.
Otherwise? SlimRoms is another solid entry for a balance between stability and performance and it's still under active development. It does require Magisk root and for some even requires a Universal SafetyNet Fix.
There's others that try as many optimization and changes as possible over stability such as Ressurection Remix or BlackX if you want to try and have the fastest performance
So really it's up to you which one you want to try.
Thank you so much for such an detailed reply
You're welcome!
Hope you enjoy custom ROMs as much as I do
Check this out, worked for me:
Hello Xda and K20 Pro-ians.
Just wanted to share with you what I did after accidentally selected “ clean all and lock” options during the process of putting in K20 Pro India ROM (raphaelin) 10.3.3 into my K20 Pro which was running on China (raphael) 10.3.14.
Started reading the forum and somehow TEST POINT Reset was my last option as I can’t boot into the ROM and was at the Recovery screen, Tried EDL as well still no go
I read through some post, and one of the members mentioned about using an older version of Unlocking application. Immediately, I tried all possible version that I could find and so far version “miflash_unlock-en-2.2.406.5” did the unlocking and straight went into the newly installed India ROM(raphaelin).
FYI. the latest version of MiUNlock doesn’t permit you to unlock bootloader process for another 30days (Mi Policies)
Steps Taken
1. Got my New Phone ( China Rom ) updated to version 10.3.14
2. Read through the post in XDA and begin ripping off my warranty -> Downloaded India Rom 10.3.3
3. Unlock Bootloader (waited for three days) -> starts flashing -> With Clean all and Lock option being checked! - FML!
4. Tried to unlock again with Miflash version 3~ no go
5. Install MiFlash unlock 2.2.4
6. Booth into Fastboot. Run the app and waited for 6 to 8 minute for the unlocking process.
7. Phone restarted
8. Happy days!

thank you again!

Apparently that's the claim. I don't imagine there's going to be many volunteers to deliberately brick their phone just to try this out.
We'll have to wait for the next person whose too impatient to fully read the guides and accidentally bricks the phone, before we can get any validation.

Hi Zadjalixx, unfortunately, is still L3, xiao mi need to up their game for this ~ I didn't root or load any custom recovery like TWARP into this phone YET. My initial Idea is the review the phone so I can use it for my daily drive. Also I can't see Netflix in PLaystore, ( so is a bummer for sure ). you have any alternative that could suggest? thanks mate.

Yeah , so far that works for me , I have given up at 1st and ready to make use of the hairdryer to remove the back cover to perform the test point reset.
I read through some treads which I am having issues to trace back, by using an older version of miflash unlock we can unlock the phone without the wait for another 30days.
Like Robo says we need to wait for the next victim to do so ~ I should have recorded a video during that process. Cheers ~

you need to download the chinese or indian fastboot rom and install it trough mi flash tool, then once the rom is installed again, you can go into the menu to enable bootloader unlock. Then you probably have to wait a week until you can unlock it using the xiaomi unlock tool.

Everytime I use the latest unlocker tool my phone won't boot to OS anymore and the stock recovery boots up. I have to do a factory reset and then i have to apply for the bootloader to unlock again.
Is there an option to see the unlock time without needing to reset the phone?

How is this correct? While Installing India rom, the bootoader got locked and you’re stuck at the Recovery menu. How Can you Enable Developer Options to bind the ID again when the device doesn’t boot?
Are you saying post the lockout, you booted immediately into fastboot and used the Mi Unlock?

Hi Mate, you tired using MiFlash unlock 2.2.4 as well ? Does it work. Basically once i Login to using my MI account and I leave the application run for few minutes and then I am able unlock the bootloader.
Most important step is that you need to put your phone to fastboot then unlock using older version -> then you should be able to boot into your ROM then from there you can enter the developer mode. But initially you should have your phone unlock(boot loader 1st right)
hope it works.
You need to boot your phone into fastboot. in order for the application to work.
Recovery menu ( Original Recovery from Mi / I have yet to load custom recovery like TWRP )
you could restart the phone and boot into fastboot even you are in the original recovery menu. Not sure if that makes sense.
thanks
My problem

This is a problem, when trying to pass the Chinese rom with the bootloader unlocked, the phone neither turns on nor fastboot mode and is only recognized via edl, have any idea what I can do?
I can't post external link. If you search on YouTube K20Pro EDL recovery you will get the video , that that is what you looking for.
The application only works if you are in fastboot mode. Thx and good luck

8. Happy days!

Hello, thanks for providing good information.
I am planning to flash my MI 9T PRO tonight to the latest India Rom.
Are you receiving the regular official updates after flashing ?
Does this mean that , i cannot use Clean All and Lock option while flashing ? What if i want to lock the phone after flashing because i will not doing this kind of stuff again after flashing.
Thanks
Hi guys, so obviously is much better to root our phone, and I have it rooted, and I also have cerberus installed as a system app and hidden, BUT let's say that tomorrow someone steals my phone, I want to be prepared to block it or track it in more than just one way, and I have read that using the miui account block is also a very good way, but I dont know, since the bootloader is unlocked, isn't it very easy for the thief to just flash any rom and have it working well?, I know that much of the thiefs dont know anything about all this, but as I said I wanna take every precaution possible.
What would you recommend me to keep my phone more secure in case anything bad happens? Maybe I don't know, keep it rooted but still lock the bootloader, maybe this statement is very dumb haha Im no expert.
Just dont let your phone get stolen.
Modern problems require modern solution.

Lock your recovery is the only security you have. Lol. But like he said take good care of your device youl be just fine.
I have unlocked bootloader, custom recovery with PIN and Cerberus with fake shutdown in lockscreen. but I know that all this is just to make the thief's life a little difficult, because either the locked or unlocked bootloader is possible to bypass and format the phone.
now your question / scenario begs for little details!
on Unlocked bootloader,
1. you can always flash stock recovery (found in fastboot rom of beryllium) and replace twrp or
2. never flash recovery on unlocked bootloader and always boot it via fastboot command for security sake
HOWEVER
1. lets assume some one steal your device and boot is unlocked and he/she can flash twrp then what you should never flash DFE (disable force encryption treble) (via twrp) so that your internal storage stays ENCRYPTED and any recovery will be unable to MOUNT IT
2. use digit screen lock method so that any recovery will ask for password
The idea is, since hardware is stolen but the theif won't able to access your peronal information! and if he tries to boot up, he won't able to unlock by the digits you set as screen lock, wrong screen locks eventually trigger miui mechanism to give warning to wait few hours before retrying and until you reach a point where miui will NOT even allow you to unlock the fone. miui will consider it stolen.
Hi, I wanted to root my Mi 11 Lite 5G NE, but without any success (as described in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fastboot-is-not-detected-in-device-manager.4499655/), however, I came with the idea of downgrading the MIUI, so fastboot would also be downgraded. I tried doing it via EDL mode, but Xiaomi likes to make things harder, and I need an authorized Xiaomi account or a patched prog_firehouse_ddr.elf file. Does any of you know where I could possibly get that file? If you know any trusted source, I can even pay for it, send me source via DM

Downgrading will result in an anti rollback lock due to the formation of ente top code in the init. So an auth authorized account is required to make changes.

There should be no problem with downgrading. Other users did as well
But you must not use Mi Flash - just use Fastboot, 7-Zip and Notepad:
- download Fastboot ROM, best use
MIUI Downloader - Apps on Google Play
MIUI upgrade app for Mi users.
play.google.com
Choose Stable, Global or EEA, Older versions
- On the PC, un-gzip and un-tar, you will find couple of bat files
- Take the batch file whose name suggests that Factory Reset will be included, but WITHOUT RELOCKING BL
- Open by Notepad, and take a look.
First 1-2 lines inspect if the phone is Lisa - leave them
Then come 5-6 lines inspecting about roll-back.
You should REMOVE those lines and save the bat file (you can rename and keep the original)
- Run the modified batch file through Fastboot, it will flash the corresponding MIUI stock ROM, without checking for roll-back, and without relocking BL (once you successfully reboot to the System and make sure everything is ok, you can later relock BL)
Similar instructions and guides can be found on Internet and YT - maybe for some other Xiaomi phones, but about the same method
