A few minutes ago, my Z5 compact finished updating Android. When I turned it on, it would accept the SIM-pin number no problem, but it will not take my phone PIN. The four dots show up when I enter it, but it will not unlock the phone. Since the PIN is required after a restart, that leaves me in a pickle because I can't open it with a fingerprint either.
Is this a common bug? Does anyone know how to fix it?
(Edit: The phone is working. I can see notifications coming in, and can delete them, but the phone still won't accept my PIN. Even after a restart.)

Hi,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but If a pin number or password is set up for the lock screen, this can be bypassed by pressing the home button 5 or 6 times and will then open up the phone without the need to enter the password or pin. A work colleague found this out by accident and was able to access the phone uninhibited. Is this a feature in case of forgotten passwords / pins or is it a bug. Or can it be disabled? as it doesn't seem all that secure
Mine doesnt do that, tried it several times
must be a bug on your phone
Yeah I though that but another work colleague has the same phone and his does it as well. You have to press it quite quickly it seems to go into the voice control when it comes on and then goes on to normal phone use. I have found other references to it googling, but seems to be relating to a fix if you have actually forgotten the password.
We've been having a fiddle , and now having powered off the phones cold and restarting after setting the pin numbers it has stopped doing it. Up untill now after setting the pin code we hadn't actually powered off completely just into standby. SO you presumably must have to reboot the phone after setting the pin number.
Anyway both phones are working and cant replicate the issue, so hopefully sorted.
Thanks
So, this is my problem.
I turned on TalkBack on my Samsung Galaxy S3 then locked the screen and now I can't unlock my phone to turn it back off. It just continues to read everything from locked screen. My SIM card is locked and it tells me there is no service. I pulled out battery several times but it boots and won't let me go any further than locked screen and TalkBack starts reading everything out loud again. Please help me fix it
Update: I successfully unlocked SIM card but it won't let me go any further than locked screen again.
P.S. Excuse me if I misspell anything, english is not my mother language.
Second Update: I've noticed "Safe Mode" sign in lower left corner. Does it mean anything?
Third Update: I figuered out I need to slide two fingers at the same time to unlock it and move around so I managed to ge to settings and turn off talkback
happened to me as well
I noticed the "Safe Mode" as well.
Happened to me in the airport after I let some old lady call someone in a language I couldn't understand, so I had couple of theories, including the NSA controlling my phone...
Every time I restarted, I had seconds to use the touch screen! that's it.
phone being protected by a pin, meant I couldn't really do anything, but keep restarting.
There was a logo on the top left tray (running apps) that I didn't recognize, which disappeared after a second.
It took at least an hour for it to go back, many restarts, battery out & in, and any trick/buttons combinations that I know in the GS3.
Not sure what really solved it in the end...if it happen again, I am going back to square one.
I really needed to use the internet, but at least, this passed the time until the delayed flight finally came...
happened again. Airport again
Anyone has any idea?
Build Number 23.4.A.1.200
I've recently updated my Z2 to the above build number. Around the same time, I also added an Exchange account through my work that forces a 6-digit PIN and encryption of the phone's contents.
I find the 6-digit PIN unlock is annoying as it is because I'm used to the pattern unlock... but I've noticed that every time I type the PIN in wrong the first time, the secondary screen (pic attached) comes up and I have to type the word "SONY" (only works in upper case too!) before I can reattempt the PIN again.
I've tried to search around online but can't seem to find anything at all about that screen...
Does anyone know how to remove this secondary unlock screen so that I don't have to type "SONY"? It pretty much means I have to unlock my phone with two hands. I'm not sure if it's part of the firmware update or whether it's a security setting forced by my company policy via the Exchange settings.
I believe the purpose of the screen would be to prevent accidental entering of the PIN 5 times, for example, while it's in my pocket and subsequently causing the phone to wipe the contents.
Appreciate any help... thanks!
Hey!
I have fingerprint and Iris along with pattern on my phone. Suddently while using the phone, it stopped accepting my pattern (which I use daily, and no, I don't have a case of amnesia). I was dumb enough to restart my phone as some suggested that made the phone accept their pattern again, but now, of course, I'm completely locked out.
-I've tried findmyphone.samsung.com but it only say I haven't activated the unlock feature.
-I've tried entering "adb shell" and then "cd /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases" but get "Permission denied" (while on the lock screen)
-I usually get 3 tried on the pattern, but now I only get 1 try then a 30 second timer.
I really don't want to factory reset via recovery (would that even help?) as I have so much data on my phone I don't want to lose.
Is there ANY way to get into the phone again? This is REALLY frustrating as I'm now locked out because the phone got bugged and suddently, seemingly forgot my pattern. SAMSUNG support claims that it's not their fault that "I" forgot my pattern (I remember it like night and day), and also that I don't have the "setting" for 3 attempts activated (when I clearly do, which I know as I get the prompt daily due to missing a point now and again). Their suggestion is that I turn the phone in for service, but the problem is that I'm catching a flight and moving out of the country in less than 2 weeks, and there is no shop even remotely close to me, so that isn't an option..
I have bills to pay too, and the bank security app is also on my phone.. /:
PS! My phone is not rooted.
Nevermind. I just factory reset as I figured I had a backup. Later (too late) I realized the backup was from November, and that I COULD have made a backup via findmyphone.samsung.com FIRST. So if anyone has my issue, just go to findmymobile.samsung.com and backup, then boot into recovery (reboot, hold bixby button, volume up and power button down, and release power button when the samsung/knox screen shows up), then wipe data. Later you'll be able to use your backup to recover your data and apps.
Hi,
I have a problem with my LG G5 (but saw it happens in other LG phones)
I have a PIN screen lock and I changed it a couple of days ago.
I was talking on the phone when it restarted (I remember the battery was hot).
Now the phone is on "Secure startup" and I had 30 tries to unlock it (15 remained).
Can't add link because I'm new, screen from 2017 post on this forum, /showpost.php?p=71690001&postcount=27
I have the "white" screen (and can't get to the "black" screen, more details down).
I saw a number of posts on this issue.
I can only enter PIN (no character keyboard).
I tried the current and previous PIN. Also tried: 0, 0000, 00000, PUK code.
Some of those tried also on safe mode.
When tried to fill the screen with zeros as much as possible and tried to unlock, I got a screen that said something like (translated):
In order to open the lock, turn off the phone and power it on again.
Did it but didn't change. Than I thought I should have pressed restart (instead of turning off and then on) but didn't got to this screen, just stayed on the same screen with one try less.
I can get to factory reset, only this option yes/no (can't add link because I'm new, on Youtube: /watch?v=6rQNENaJYZg)
I don't want to hard reset because some files are not backed up.
Also can get to Fastboot mode and Download mode.
If I restart (or power off and on) the phone is on flight mode.
I can call to emergency numbers, and when I call and hangs up, suddenly there is a cellular connection and 4G data.
In this situation I can receive calls, but still can call only emergency numbers.
The phone is not rooted and I don't use special ROM or something like that.
From time to time it makes tick sounds (like pressing a button) every few seconds. The rest of the time it doesn't make any sound.
The computer recognizes the phone and installs the driver - "Android bootloader interface" but I can't see the phone on my computer.
Also tried to connect through Google Find but it can't locate the phone and the lock option there doesn't seem to do anything (writes request sent).
There is a problem contacting stores because of the Corona.
Appreciate any help,
Thanks very much!
Edit: I also have a memory card, do you know if the data on it is OK? (I don't have a card reader)
