Really need help, cannot unlock or root - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I've followed several guides for my h830 to be rooted or have twrp installed.
I cannot flash the 10D TOT with root. The only KDZ or TOT I can flash is 20A. When I finally boot back into the OS, the OEM unlock is unavailable.
Dirtycow method is not working probably because of the OEM unlock not being active.
I'm really not sure what else to be doing.
All USB drivers and LG software is up to date. Is there any way to just force flash TWRP or root???

I can't do anything with LGUP anyway. The only way I can revert (get back after trying and failing a TOT flash) to 20a is through lgup uppercut UPGRADE. I haven't tried another computer. I've been running everything as admin. EasyRecowvery fails at stock recovery backup and non-verity.
I verify each time through fastboot that the device is already unlocked.

This happens every time with recowvery
Error 1: Operation not permitted
Creating backup of recovery at /sdcard/stock_recovery.img... FAILED!
Boot and/or recovery partition already modified. Refusing to continue for safety.
If you insist, you can run the script again with integrity checking disabled... but just don't.
SOMETHING WENT WRONG! EXITING.

I absolutely cannot get any method to flash root or recovery.

P769 LG Security Error

So I rooted my phone with a locked bootloader using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465 and went ahead and installed CWM recovery, and then tried to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428306
After my phone rebooted, I keep on getting this LG Security Error and cannot boot into the phone. I've tried to use the fastboot method to try and flash a new kdz, however I keep on getting stuck at the waiting for device part.. would appreciate it if anyone could help me to just restore my phone to factory settings?

Sounds like you made a serious error and didn't do any research before proceeding. Did you install the LG drivers prior to doing anything with the phone? If not, you have just bricked your device. L9RecoveryInstaller.apk is the ONLY way at the moment to successfully install CWM on the P769 if the bootloader is locked. I don't have all the answers myself as I'm fairly new to this device, P769, myself. There may be someone here with a little more insight as to how to fix your issue, but if you didn't install LGs drivers beforehand, I'd say your device is bricked. Sorry.
You'll need to use fastboot to flash ICS u and x. Then go into upgrade mode by holding volume up and plugging the phone to the computer. Upgrade mode should pop up and you're ready to flash any kdz using the offline flash method.

L9 P769 is a much different creature than the other P76X variants. CWM CANNOT be installed on the recovery partition unless the bootloader is unlocked. There are very few people here who have managed to unlock the bootloader on this device ( P769 ). Any attempt to modify the bootloader, boot partition, or recovery ends in "LG Security Error". As per my previous post, the only way to get CWM on this device with a locked bootloader is with the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk.

Do you have busybox installed and or do you have multiple copies of busybox installed?
If you don't have busybox, install it from the Play Store. Make sure it installs to /system/xbin.
If you have multiple copies, which I did when I had this error, use the busybox installer to uninstall all copies of busybox and then use the installer to reinstall busybox to /system/xbin.
You may need to run L9RecoveryInstaller again. It will say there is a recovery installed just reinstall anyway.
Reboot and try again.

Cm11 is available, yes some people can unlock the bootloader. Theres a few threads about removing tmobile bloatware, along with solutions to the other questions I answered. Simply search your question and you'll find a solution. THEN if you can't find the solution by searching make a thread to ask about it. Goodluck if you try unlocking the bootloader, its quite a journey!! If you can't unlock it or the process scares you out of trying search Kuma ROM. Goodluck!

Hi, I'm in a similar boat as the OP, successfully rooted the device but didn't realise I needed an unlocked bootloader to flash a recovery. Now I get Security Error.
Now, I keep seeing "ICS x and u" on this forum, and have no idea what it is. Yet people keep saying it like it's obvious.
Is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44144663
If so, obviously I can't follow the steps because my phone won't boot up past the splash screen. And said phone isn't recognized by ADB at the moment, because I can only figure out how to boot it into S/W update mode.
Currently I can't even use the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk, because, again, can't boot up. Help?

Soft Brick, Cant fix

Ok so here's the jist of it. Was trying to downgrade from 46a to 10b. Couldn't get LG flash tool to come up "Ready", so I tried the terminal emulator method. Seemed to work until I rebooted. Now I get unsuccessful boot error with the LG screen. I don't have twrp as I hoped, only stock recovery. So I've tried for hours with many different methods to get the Flash tool to pick up my phone when its in Download mode. Tried disabling driver signature at boot, downloading different drivers, changing com port to com41.
Nothing
I am on Windows 8 and could get as far as the actual flashtool previously. Now I cant even get that far. Stayed up until 5am and have been back at it since 1.
Any help would be awesome!

So, I can get the my laptop to pick up the phone and show the port. Also says connected mpt device. I just cant get the flash tool to see it. Would it be safe to say that my phone is wiped and therefore does not currently have a "version" (46a ext) and would allow me to flash a kdz on the 2014 flash tool?
Trying to think outside the box seeing I've gotten no leads....

If by terminal emulator method you mean my thread about manually downgrading partitions, then yes, that's another effect of downgrading them, that you can then flash any KDZ you want.

Ok, I'm gonna give it a try. I'm hoping that I'll already have the flash tool up and it will see my phone in download mode.

Ok guys I finally got it to work! Ran the older 2014 flash tool. The trick I found to make my Asus i7 recognize my phone was a little strange. When i would let my phone boot up it would flash the led red and blue. Once I held the volume button up it would boot to a blank screen, but the phone was still on. This was the only time my laptop would download and install the correct drivers. From there i powered off, went into download mode and connected, then used the lg tool to flash the 10b kdz file.
All rooted and twrp'ed! Flashing 47a and I'm done!
Hopefully, sometime, somehow, this will help someone else with the same problem.
Thanks road warrior for the advice. Been a long 2 days...

Getting Somewhere? Downgrading VS990 to LP

So I am continous trying methods to downgrade my VS990 (LG V10 Verizon) back to Lolipop so I can get root and change my APN Settings to allow Straighttalk Access. I am using LGFlashTool.
These are the steps I took:
1. Downloaded LG Driver and Installed It (https: //goo.gl/cvsjM4)
2. Downloaded Flash Tool and Installed It (https: //goo.gl/gygzcG)
3. Plug in VS990 and changed Port to 41
4. Ran Flash Tool
5. Selected Manual Mode
6. Under DLL file put LGUP_8994.dll (https: //goo.gl/u2Cr1g)
7. Under S/W put rootedsystemvs.tot (I couldn't find the stock TOT so I put this one) (https: //goo.gl/Sh20Pr)
8. Selected UPGRADE DL and BOARD DL (Same Outcome) and Clicked Ok.
9. Clicked Start.
10. Removed device from USB for 3 seconds and plugged it back in.
11. Let it do its job till it FAILED.
Im just updating what I tried. Maybe some DEV can use this. I would love some help!
Error: 00000064
The bootloader was updated. You can't downgrade. Even with root, you can't downgrade. You would need a completely custom bootloader, or the old bootloader.

Interesting. Im guessing obtaining the bootloader is impossible since Verizon thinks it has the ability to keep hold of open-source material. Ridiculous.

Power port on v10 broken stuck with wireless charging

And with that, i can only flash the phone using what's local since i cannot connect via usb, and i'm also stuck on lollipop and want to upgrade to MM. Is there a zip that i can use to flash to MM, and still keep root at the same time?

Use your computer to put files on a micro SD card. Put card in phone.
OR
Use one of many wifi file transfer apps on play store. Sambadroid is a good one.
The issue is not getting the files to the phone, i can use google drive, etc... once there how can i upgrade to MM, because the usb port is fried and i cannot hook a cable to it.

You can use Eliminater74s rom and just flash it using TWRP. There's a Part 1 & 2.
Read his OP on what to do and dont mix V20E with V20J ... Read before you flash anything. If you have any doubts then ask or re-read everything again.

That's the bad part. You can't boot with root without 'fastboot oem unlock', which is done with a usb cable. For more info read up on the root process of the first MM update, 20e. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...1v20estock-customized-t3360240/post67328874). To me it sounds like you are stuck on LP to stay rooted.

The upgrade to MM relocks the bootloader (either .zip or .kdz), to unlock the new bootloader you unfortunately need a usb cable. Early updaters that used the .zips couldn't boot locked bootloaders with root. Unfortunately (for you) to use MM with root you need to unlock the bootloader with fastboot all over again.

theres no wireless adb or fastboot? i've unlocked and rooted in LL - so you're saying it relocks in MM? Also i can't follow - which do i need, lhave a v10 and can't find info on whether i have a E or J. If this is in waste, i may buy a new phone, issue is whats comparable these days?
so in current state, if i flash MM V10_H901_V20E_Stock_MM_Rooted-signed.zip (i assume this is just a stock whole package, during this process it will relock the phone, and because its mm, i will not be able to use the phone, or can i still use the phone maybe go into twrp and run the unlock command?i mean if there is no way, then i'm stuck @ 5.11, and time for a new phone

That file is only part2 of the V20E zips. V20J is just the second MM update from LG. I am in the middle of resetting up my V10 after my own upgrade from LP to v20J MM, and yes i needed to use fastboot with a usb cable to re-unlock the bootloader as instructed by the part1 zip. So to say lightly, your V10 is stuck on LP, unless you send it somewhere to be repaired. If you want MM WITHOUT root you could flash the kdz, which will also leave your data intact if done as an upgrade, or wipe if done as refurbish. (rooting a kdz flash can only be done with a usb cable.)

Having issues rooting.

I have been trying to root my LG V10 H901 6.0. I've gone thru the steps. Tried different programs, different tools. After I've unlocked the bootloader, its fine. But when I try to flash the twrp, its always failing. Am I missing something??? Do I need an unlock code so I can flash this? Also, after I download the twrp, it always says, the file is corrupted. I turn off all the security settings before I download the twrp. I've. Tried 2.8.7.0, 2.8.7.1 and the 3.0.0.0. Always saying, file is to big. Can anyone help??

I have followed this method, and got rooted without issues.
I've trird using mfastboot, sdk tool, abd/mfastboot.. Nothing seems to be working. I'll get most of the way thru. When I try to flash the twrp, thats where the problem starts. It just won't flash. I've used the necessary drivers for my T-Mobile LG V10 H901. But every time, it just will not flash. Do I need a flash tool kit? Serms I'm missing something. Or the files I get from here are always corrupted.
