RetMX STOCK SIGNED BOOT.IMG - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi, just wondering if anyone can share his/her signed boot.img from stock rom RETMX, the one I tried to flash with fasboot ends in: (bootloader) signed with bad key. The phone boots, and i can flash roms with twrp and stuff, but when in stock, trying to install OTA gets in error due to the bad key.
edit: Going into more reasoning, I realize that the main cause of the OTAS not installing, is because i've already taken the last update, and that probably messed with the gpt.bin, because when trying to flash it, the fastboot console says that I'm trying to downgrade, and aborts. So my only hope to restore this to total stock is if someone with an untouched twrp backup can share his backup with me. It needs to be in the latest update of RETMX. I would really apreciate it. Thanks.

[Q] Updating by restoring backup

OK, so I need some help
When I first unlocked my DX, I made a CWM backup of the ROM.
Recently I noticed that there are a few newer JB ROMS that Id like to try, but Im on HBOOT 1.24.0000, and whilst using the Custom ROM, unable to update via OTA.
Ive spent a hour or so trying to restore the backup and run OTA, which has worked up to a point.
Heres what Ive done so far.
- Restored by CWM backup (had to fix a MD5 problem)
- Rebooted and OTA downloaded OTA_PROTO_U_ICS_40A_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3-1.18.707.1_release_300978id119tizxreo6g0l.zip
- Asked if wanted to update...YES!! I said
- Restarted into CWM and an error about not being able to mount SDCARD
- tried to flash the ZIP file manually and get the check_cid asset failed error (CID mismatch I think).
My CID is HTC_044, but if Im using a backed up ROM from my phone, and OTA is downloading it, why wont it install?
I've also tried relocking (fastboot oem lock) and all it does it reboot back into fastboot (assume there must be something wrong with the ROM backup?).
I can see there are no official region 044 RUU's so what can I do (if anything)?
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks

Since you are now on a Stock ROM, You just have to flash the Stock Recovery then the OTA will install else it will keep restarting into the custom recovery.

[Q] Can't successfully install new ROM

I got my DNA back in December, unlocked with S-ON, rooted, and flashed a lightly modified stock ROM. It's been super stable, so I figured I wouldn't mess with it, and I've been running it since.
Yesterday, I was trying to free up some space on my device by integrating updates of system apps through Titanium Backup, and it jacked stuff up pretty royally. I figured, this is a great chance to install a new Sense 5 ROM.
I went through TWRP, installed the new ROM, cleared data, and when it restarted, it hung at the white HTC screen. Undeterred, I tried again through recovery. Then through sideloading a different ROM. Then by restoring a backup, downloading a new ROM and trying through recovery. Then installing CWM instead of TWRP and trying that way. Then by sideloading through CWM.
Every single method by which I've tried to install a new ROM has resulted in the phone hanging indefinitely at the white HTC screen.
I have obviously searched repeatedly for a fix for the white screen issue, and while I can restore an old backup and get the phone running, I can't seem to find a solution that gets me up and running on a new ROM. I'd hate to go through all the work (my phone's been unusable since around 8 PM last night) and not come out of it with a new ROM.
Am I missing something? Maybe I should be installing a new kernel before installing the ROM?
you are s-on you must flash the kernel boot.img via fastboot then flash kernel modules via recovery
copy boot.img from rom.zip
in command prompt goto folder with boot.img and enter
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then create a flashable module.zip and flash via recovery or adb eacxh module into system folder or just s-off your device and re flash rom.zip
The best way to fix ur phone now is to go through RUU, first relock the bootloader through fastboot, then enter RUU again through fastboot nd run the RUU from ur pc, ur good to go.
The reason it's getting stuck thr is becoz the system partition isn't getting mounted
As soon as I typed "S-On" in that original post, I started getting suspicious that might be the problem, but none of the ROMs I was trying specifically mentioned the need to be S-Off. But that does make sense.
So I spent the afternoon getting it S-Off, which was a bit of a hassle, and now in about three minutes, I see if I can indeed flash a ROM. I feel pretty optimistic, though.
Update: Success. I am now a very happy person.
congrats hope you enjoy
now no need for anything special to flash roms or kernels.

Cannot install update

I've searched through the forums, but haven't found an answer, so I'm starting a new thread.
I received a G Watch as a gift last weekend, and it had a problem on the initial configuration. It wasn't able to connect and download any updates, so I manually flashed the updated firmware. Everything is working fine, and I'm on build LDZ22D. I was able to use G Watch Restore Tools V9 to flash system and recovery (and, in fact, boot, although that didn't seem to do anything), which got my watch up to an earlier version.
I then tried LG G Watch Return to Stock LDZ22D to get to my current build. However, I'm notified that there's an update available, but I'm not able to install it. When I try to install it through the regular user interface, it boots to recovery.
I've tried using the stock recovery, but had no luck with getting anything other than the android with the sore tummy appearing. I've used TWRP to try to flash update.zip (the stock downloaded update) and also tried this image.
When I try to apply update.zip through TWRP recovery, it gives me an error.
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/cache/update.zip'
Package expects build fingerprint of lge/platina/dory:5.1.1/LDZ22D/19259530:user/release-keys or lge/platina/dory:5.1.1/LCA43/2160025:user/release-keys; this device has lge/cm_dory/dory:4.4.2/KVT9L/561735d166:eng/test-keys
It looks like the release keys are set to a nexus 7 build number (I don't understand how that's even possible). Is there a way to rewrite those keys? I understand they're part of the digital signing process, but I'm not sure why they didn't reset when I used the return to stock tool to flash my current image, which is the actual LDZ22D build. I appear to have a key mismatch. I've tried reflashing boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img manually (the ones included in the return to stock download), but they don't seem to work.
I get the same error when I try to flash the update I downloaded through ADB sideload. I'm frustrated, since my watch gives me this error, then after I reboot, it goes ahead and downloads the update.zip again, killing my cell data plan.
I'd love any help or insight into this. Is there a way to turn off the verification of the keys, or write the actual keys associated with my build? I'm new to working with a watch, and I've got limited experience working with phones/tablets through custom recovery. I'm not interested in a custom rom for my watch - I just wanted to get it to run properly on the stock image, and had a whack at getting it set up through developer options instead of letting it error out when I first got it.
Thanks in advance!
Still working on it
Okay, after quite a bit more research, it appears that my recovery.img doesn't match the rest of the build. I've tried the LDZ22D recovery.img, but it doesn't respond to any user input.
I'm now trying the factory image files from this post.
It seems there are a few people having problems getting to LCA43 recently. If you have an unlocked bootloader by now, you can try this method (TWRP restore from my LCA43 system+boot backup).
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I've installed a custom recovery, SuperSU and the xposed framework on my Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus and yesterday I've received an OTA update with wich I was (as expected) unable to update my phone. (it just rebooted to TWRP and did nothing) On their website I was only able to find an older build. I think what I have to do is install the stock recovery(to install the update then switch back to a custom one), but I don't know where to get it from.

Thank you very much, I've installed the stock recovery and also uninstalled xposed framework and SuperSU so the System partition would be clean but when trying to update I get a derpy android with the text: ERROR. Does anyone know how can I fully revert to stock so I can install the update, would a factory reset solve my problem?

Exactly the same here. I flashed TWRP so I can install SuperSU for root access, now I've flashed back the stock recovery to apply the update and it ends in "Error".
It's also not possible to apply the downloaded zip-package manually (not via TWRP and not via Cyanogen recovery).

It's not an option for me to do a full reset each time they (who ever it might be in the future) release an update.
I bought this phone because I thought it might be easier to update/ get root access compared with e.g. Samsung devices, but in the end I must say Cyanogen OS is really bad and I hope there will be some mods soon, so I can get these bad/restrictive stock-OS off my phone...

I haven't checked myself but linuxct seems to say its an img file. You need to flash img files with fastboot. Have you tried unziping the .zip file and seeing if there are img files (e.g system.img, recovery.img)
If you don't know how to use fastboot here is a good tutorial: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
Hope this helps.

You can enable that inside Developer options > Root access. There's no need to either alter your system nor unlock your bootloader if your only concern is root privileges.

Cyanogen is no more, Wileyfox's switching to an AOSP-based ROM through the following OTAs, which will be Android 7.0 Nougat and will start rolling on february. You've more info here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/swift-2/how-to/official-wileyfox-statement-regarding-t3528844

No, I think that is only there in CyanogenMod (the community based custom rom) not in the Cyanogen OS (the proprietary OS for businesses). As far as I know no OEM can release an android phone with Gapps and root. We have an option there called "OEM unlock" which will allow you to unlock your bootloader (from a computer) but nothing else that would grant root out of box.

Just flashing back to the stock recovery does not remove SuperSU. Due to your error I'm assuming you have a non-systemless root. In order to remove SuperSU you must flash http://downloadmirror.co/Uot/UPDATE-unSU.zip (with TWRP), and if that doesn't work I would recommend flashing back to full stock cyngn from: https://cyngn.com/support.
Cheers!

Thank you very much, flashing the system.img with
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fixed the issue and I was able to update my system to the latest version and since it only changed the system partition, no data (files from internal/external storage) nor apps (not even their data) were deleted. After the update I had to flash TWRP, SuperSU and Xposed again.

Thank you, but unfortunately I've read this hint after trying the unsu method described here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63615067
I've installed the unsu-zip package and flashed the original boot.img via TWRP. It did not help, but since I did this I have another warning message when booting: "The dm-verity is not started in enforcing mode."
In the end I managed to get the update by installing the original zip package again and after this the OTA update worked.
What still remains is the new "dm-verity error message" right after booting....
Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can find the files to manually update to the new AOSP based ROM. Or has Wileyfox not released it?
(Or has anyone captured the PTA link?)
There is currently no new AOSP ROM. I've received only Cyanogen OS update (probably the last one?). According the Wileyfox statement on facebook, the new ROM (Nougat) will be released in the february...

Then later (between February and end of Q1) they will release nougat. Its an easy mistake to make as they aren't too clear about it.
Thanks anyway.
It is unclear what kind of ROM will they release. According the statement it should be bloatware free OS
AOSP, Lineage OS, something else?
I really like cyanogenmod, so I hope there will be Lineage OS ROM in the future...
The new update
Hi, I'm not in the least technologically minded so please don't take the mick when I ask, will the new update delete the cyanogen os? Or is that something I will have to do? If so, what is safe to delete without damaging my phone?
Wow, that was a couple more questions then I had thought!
Thanks all.

I don't think it'd be a good idea to mess with the bootloader for now. Also, I uninstalled SuperSU from the app. If you have xposed I suggest you uninstall that too (At least that's what I did). Sorry I can't help more I 'm still a little newby myself.

Sadly, an OEM cannot rely on community-driven software, so it surely won't be CyanogenMod/Lineage. But, that doesn't mean that in the future we wouldn't be able to enjoy it thanks to custom ROM development

Welcome to the community!
This depends on what you understand about 'new update'. If the new update you're talking about is the currently rolling OTA, the one that's getting prompted on every phone right now, no, that won't delete CyanogenOS yet, but prepare the device to upgrade to a CyanogenOS-free Android 7.0 ROM, which will happen in a month or so. You won't have to do anything but let the phone update each and every single time it requests it. Cyanogen itself is not something you can remove as a user, unless you install what's called a custom ROM (this means, a different ROM software than the one provided by Wileyfox), so, you don't need to worry about it but keeping your device up-to-date as soon as it prompts you with an update ^_^

Try relocking like you said, but before, flash everything included in the latest CyanogenOS fasboot image zip (from here). To flash all of them at once, execute each and every of the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash devcfg devcfg.mbn
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot flash keymaster keymaster.mbn
fastboot flash rpm rpm.mbn
fastboot flash sbl1 sbl1.mbn
fastboot flash splash splash.img
fastboot flash tz tz.mbn
Once done, relock your bootloader by doing:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Please note, this probably doesn't fully lock your bootloader, as some propietary DRM keys might've been lost during the unlock process...
Good luck and please, keep us posted!

[help] bricked my moto z

Hi experts!
Is there an available factory image of the latest firmware for griffin xt1650-03 for download? I unlocked my boot loader and tried to flash custom firmware now I am stuck in boot loop. My phone was nougat and updated via OTA last week before I decided to unlock boot loader. I tried loading the latest image I got from firmware.center but I am getting Downgrade version and verification failed when flashing stock partition and not loader. Please help
Note: I did this my wifi became unusable after my last OTA (mac 02:00:00:00) and thought using custom firmware would help
And I did not make a back up
Get it in fastboot mode, flash TWRP and root it. That might work.
I am in exactly the same position as OP, although I have successfully installed TWRP and have open bootloader from which I can boot into TWRP no probs. I didnt do a backup (will never again make this error!!)
The problem arises when I try to flash (any) files over to device I get the "Downgrade version and verification failed" like OP when flashing stock Telus rom (telus phone) or any other rom/files.
Rebooting brings me back to the moto unlocked bootloader page (horrible!) and the only way out is to get key combo or fastboot into bootloader/recovery etc.
Tried flashing multiple images as whole or bit by bit, always get the same bad validation message. Finding it hard to believe this 700dollar phone is a brick after literally following MotoS own 'unlock your bootloader' instructions. Never had issues like this on OPO, S6, S7, LG etc.
PC shows android device connected, nothing in the two empty folders that appear. TWRP confirms I have no OS installed and throws me back to bootloader.Wondering if locking bootloader again will allow me to install 'stock' ROM or at least recovery? I have reached my android knowledge limit and am not sure where to go from here, any help much appreciated!
OK. This happened to me. The way that I solved it was by flashing the RETUS NPL86.25.15 and then flashing the OTA 25.17-3-3 through twrp. Although I think I could've saved the headache if the original instructions included flashing the OEM.bin but anyways. That's what I did. Hope it helps.
Thanks. I did try flashing the oem.bin but got partition name error.
Can you link to the files you mention I think it's a kernel and then an OTA image? Thanks again in advance.
What I mean is that when I first started flashing the RETUS rom the instructions skipped that part so I ended up flashing most of the file system without something so it would never boot but it wouldn't loop it'd just hang. So basically you flash everything and then include the OEM.bin after you do the system chunks
