Recommended ROM for me? (Mediatek) - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hey! I'm tired of MIUI.
I have tons of Chinese apps I can't uninstall, some alarms won't work, a bug which redirects me to App Store instead of Play Store and blah blah blah
When I bought this phone a year ago I installed the stock rom, and tried the customs like CM and a few more that were avaliable
I haven't checked this in so much time, so I don't know what to do. My phone right now is with the stock ROM with the last update avaliable. I know a little about installing ROMs and things. I don't even have root right now
I once tried installing xposed but it bugged out. I'd like to download it just to try it. Is it stable now?
What should I try first? Thanks!!! I want something stable and without useless apps. Just the typical from Google. I can't find too much for the hennessy version

[Q] how to? install apps on SD

Hi. I've searched the forum and browsed quite a few threads, but haven't really found the answer I'm looking for - maybe (or probably) because I'll need to find pieces in various threads and put them together - which I can't - I'm a donk at phone software and the like - hey, I'm not even too sure that it's the right subforum, but I'll give it a go and hopefully you'll be able to help med out.
First of all - I need to be able to install app's on my SD-card - which I can't. Can't even install App2SD, link2SD and whatever the various apps are named. Have tried many things but it don't seem to help
My phones not rooted - is that the reason? If yes - how is the easiest (read safest) way to do it?
I've also read a bit about different mods and stuff, but some say that the SE OS is the more stable OS, so I guess I'll stay with that.
Here's the data about my phone:
SE X10 minipro
Model u20i
Firmware vers 2.1 update 1
version no 2.1.1.A.0.6
Well, I know that one of the steps needed in order to install apps on sdcard on official 2.1 rom is having it rooted and flashing app2sd to it... how complex is it? never tried.
Best tip I can mention is by flashing a custom firmware, it got anything needed in it and features some extras too... the whole forum is all about them, just pick one/some up and try them, one of the notes i can give you is syncing your contacts with gmail, so it will easily restored on the custom firmware one in a sec.
I'm currently using MiniCM7 Pro v6 Rom, im bumping back and forth with MiniCM6 rom because this one gives me some wifi/gsmnet issues sometimes... fixed by a reset,
Yet that issue i still recommend MiniCM7 Rom, Its just... faster.

Getting Confused more and more..Need Help

Hi Guys as my title Says..
i need Help very Badly.
First of all MODS and USERS i'm sorry i didn't knew where to post this thread so if its in in-appropriate section please move it to correct section. THanks
OK my problem is this.
i recently (less than a week ago ) bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 its by Bell Canada and its i9100M. i bought it online since my service provider is Rogers.
i guess this phone is already rooted to unlock it and i can see CWM and SU icon there.
Well i'm a Hardcore Blackberry Fan and have been using Blackberries from last 6 years. I loved the new samsung because of it looks and its screen.
I Had Lot of Problem with it like setting up my yahoo as push email, setting the Ringtone Profile, setting up the Custom Ringtones for Text Messages..
Having wrong time stamps on Recieved TEXT Message.. well i fixed all those by installing apps from market and forwarding my yahoo to my gmail...
i Hated doing all that but infront of the beauty of this phone i had to compromise but today it took 3 hours to find my gps location and day by day im using it i'm hating it .....
SO OK I DID MY RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT ALOT... the more i'm researching the more i'm getting confused...
first of all what is the difference between custom ROM and KERNEL.
i know custom rom could be like operating system but customized by unofficial person.
what the h is KERNEL..
to install rom's or kernel do i really have to root.
To unlock do i have to root or is there a paying method.
also i want to know if i'll go back to stock rom can i still unlock it.and recieve all the updates from samsung or google specially when ICS will be launched.
after unlocking and installing custom root. can i unroot it
and lastly which is best custom kernel and which is the best rom availble.
since been a blackberry user i have very basic needs. i don't play any games or download much apps and if an app is paid..i'll pay for it.. i don't want to jailbreak anything .
all i need is better battery life, gps and network coverage.
Thanks for taking time to read and reply.
Hi there.
I'll try and get through your questions as simply as possible,
Imagine your phone is like a car
A kernel is like the engine of a car - it's the low level machinery that keeps it going.
The Rom is like the body of the car around the engine. Roms can be official (or Stock Roms), or they can be customised by other people.
So, when you install a stock rom - you're installing the kernel, but you're also installing the radio (called a modem or baseband) and the registration (or the CSC which is location specific information) as well as the unique 'body' of the car for that rom - tweaks, default software, etc.
You don't have to have rooted your phone to install a Rom. When you update your phone via Kies, you are, literally, installing an stock rom. You can even install stock roms from elsewhere without rooting your phone. Because stock roms are released in different regions at different times, lots of people update their phones to the latest official roms via this method - no root required.
However, to install a custom, unofficial rom, you will need to root your phone as they will require access to the 'root level directory' of your phone's file system - which is what root really means.
You can find everything you need to know about that, how to root and also lots of stock roms you can install without rooting here:
Some shops will root you phone for you if you want to go down that path and don't want to risk it. But it's easier than you think and the galaxy s2 is very hard to break. There's lots of help available on XDA - just remember to search before you ask so you don't ask a common question the millionth time.
If you have installed a custom rom you can easily re-install a stock rom over it that will still work with Kies and thus be updateable when ICS turns up.
There is no 'best' Rom or kernel. Some Roms go 'as is' and some are customisable to the nth degree if you like fiddling with your phone non-stop. I personally use CheckRom because I like the kitchen app that lets you swap kernels, modems and mods with ease - but check out the Original Android Development threads and see which other roms you like the sound of.
Depending on what you are currently running, a new rom - even a stock one if you're running a very old one - could easily help with battery and range issues. For GPS - try installing FasterFix from the market and see if reassigning your GPS fix to a closer location helps.
Best of luck - it's a great phone once you open up its possibilities
Thanks a lot for the reply
well your reply did help me a lot...
my phone is been already rooted by someone else already from the person i bought it....
as for searching i did a lot.. and its been confusing me more and more ..well thanks for your answer
also as u said S2 is hard to break..i guess u mean is that the JIG thing on EBAY
and as for flashing the stuff i've played with other stuff just not android thing ive replaced the os on BB and jailbreaked iphones and installed macintosh on HP PC and also worked on most of the languages 10 years ago... and i believe nothing is impossible so going to someone else is never an option for me
just want to know as much as stuff i can before going further
well i have few more questions
how can i find which rom or kernel is already installed...
i mean is it possible to tell if its stock or its customized and its customized by which group.
and one last thing.. u know the words u used modem and baseband...
i read about it before...
but my question is ...
IS THE BASEBAND ANYTHING LIKE IPHONE BASEBAND???
u know in iPhones when baseband is updated u r screwed sometimes its hard to jailbreak and definately hard to unlock and reverting changes to baseband....
is it the samething in Galaxy S2 as well...
Thanks a lot for replying...i really appreciate all the time you took to reply.
Thanks once again.
Yeah baseband is the code that handles the phone part of your smartphone. Talking to your wireless provider, 3G, texts all these things are done by baseband.
Flashing a different baseband won't screw your root, and you'd still be rooted. Samsung doesn't make it hard to root as Apple does to jailbreaking. Even if something goes wrong with a new version, you can always revert back to old one using Odin(Samsung ROM flashing tool) and you are good to go.
Thanks a lot... about that quick reply...
i'm gonna collect more information and hopefully i'll be flashing it on weekend...
but how can i find which rom or kernel is already installed...

Everything you need to know can be found here. Most of it, anyway.
Backup your device with cwm when rooted ... So you can always restore to previous state. ;-)
Good luck there. But reading is a must.

also you can go settings - about phone - then look at the bottom fields to see kernel, baseband and build. Quote those and we should be able to tell what you have.

[Q] Updated to 4.2 with slimbean and now have lost all my apps and nothing works

Hello everyone, i have a new Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 on virgin, i took the plunge and rooted it, all went well and fairly easy too, so i decided i wanted to update from 4.1.2 to the 4.2.2 update, i found what i thought was a suitable download and using odin i upgraded, however now all is bad, i have an os called slim bean or Nova or something, nearly all the apps have gone, i cannot get access to google store or the internet at all, it now tells me i am on tmobile and a few of the apps that are on there stop working when you click on them, the web and apps like this just do nothing, i tried to import my previous set up which was GO but the system tells me No supported launchers to import from, i cannot even add my google account. does anyone have any idea what i have done and how to rectify it, i really am regretting ever touching it, ive tried to ownload the stock rom but the only place you can get it from is a site called hot file which pretty much will not work unless i feed it money, thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. ATB
you should have read the guides/FAQ before rooting , if you did not do it, and if you did, read it again.
There are instructions of how going back to stock, how to root another ROM, what you have to be careful of etc.
In addition SlimBean & Nova are completely different things, SlimBean is a ROM and Nova a launcher (if you are talking about the launcher)
Sounds like to flashed the wrong ROM for your phone. Usually a good place for stock ROMs is sammobile.com or here on XDA the ROM threads in the General section.

TCL S720 Rom?

Hi all ,
A Newbie here.
after getting my new TCL S720 im pretty impressed .
Only issues im having is for some apps for example flashscore im not getting notifications when a team scores , yes i have checked app settings to see if notifications on & phone settings too.
Im also getting a problem with the play store which the app is here but when going in im getting "no connection" ( i could get away with this as i was using aptoid & mobomarket)
i believe its also come rooted as i have Superuser app & its asking for permissions everytime app added .
if i could get notifications to work i would not be looking to try out another rom but would be good to add a rom where i could get these fixes.
So after all that my question is what rom is compatible for the TCL S720
my android system is android 4.2.2 jelly bean
thanks in advance & great to be here im looking forward to meeting new people & learning alot
Jamie
Hi. Could you make a backup of your original rom before you will flash your device? I have the same phone and as far as I know there is not a fully customized working rom, and many of us did not made a backup of the original rom and is nowhere to find and download it. All the custom roms found has different issues, so I would like to get back the original rom and try a fix for Google Play. I couldn't tell you how exactely to make the backup, perhaps other users who knows better will help you. I've tried to make a backup with MTK Droid tools, it looked like I did it, but I think I didn't do the scatter file or something I missed becauze I couldn't revert to it, it gave me an error, don't remember it now. So, before you do a flash, I advise you to make a backup of your original rom and if you suceed, please upload it somewhere, or even here at the TCL S720 roms thread and let us know.
Regards.
hi i did backup my stock rom but i wouldnt want to give it as the very reason i changed rom was due to problems like play store , push notifications not working & had malware detection & id not want to give anyone a backup of a virus threatening backup. what i have done is flashed a rom from needrom which is pretty stable for my needs only issue is you need a sd card as the storage is a little screwed & all apps pikkies etc all go to sd card but apart from that all works to my needs here is the one i flashed

hope this helps & ill be playing about & probably installing new roms to test so ill update my findings

Hi Jammo,
Could you upload somewhere the stock rom you saved for TCL S720 please? I will manage with the malware. I already tried the rom you said in your last mesage but it hasn't Google Play and I don't how the camera is focusing. More than that, I've read on the same forum a solution to make Google Play work on stock rom, thanks to Barbas23. I hadn't the opportunity to try it but he sais it's working. I paste here the solution he found:
"The solution for google play: The problem is that the TCL S720 doesnt exist in the google database. So the solution is to change your phone "Name" and "Model".
Here is what i've done:
1: Install root explorer or something similar.
2: Go to /System and open the build.prop with an editor.
3: Change this 3 lines:
ro.product.model=
ro.product.name=
ro.product.device=
I change them for the galaxy note 4 (find them in the forum)
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-N910A
ro.product.name=trlteuc
ro.product.device=trlteatt
4. Save, and reboot your phone.
This way, its working, you can change it for every phone you want, just google for the 3 lines."
So Jammo, please upload the stock rom, I want to revert to it. Thank you.

Which Custom Rom...or stick withh Stock rom?

Hello guys
I'm hope it's ok to ask my question. Otherwise please forgive me my ignorance.
I would like to install a custom rom to my old Galaxy S5 device. Its' the intl. version. I experimented with customs rom before, but finally ended up with the stock rom.
It should be stable, autoupdate and Google Play should work. Any suggestions?
Also it would be great when there is a new android version. Right now I'm on the stock rom 6.01. Since I have to do a hard reset anyway I would use a custom rom. Hard reset is actually not correct. Since it's rooted I guess it's safer to install a rom, instead of to do a reset.
Thank you.
Edit: I tried resurrection earlier this Year. Autoupdate wasn't possible and Google Play (Gapps package) didn't work. Google Play crashed permanently.
Nobody?
