Not really. At least not the MTK version of the RN 4.
i wll say almost the same.. i just got my redmi note 4 MTK to replace my samsung Note 3 and at first it sucks at battery. i mean it really suck untill i flash custom rom and that improve. i will say the overall experience will be the same except more bug in the software.
Thx for the replies. I ordered a Note 4 snap dragon anyway. Maybe as a Backup Phone [emoji14]

I'm interested in your experience (replacing Galaxy Note 4). I'm actually thinking of doing the same. How did it work for you? Found any budget suitable replacement? Thanks.

I think more battery saving, faster charging, 4g frequency support all the operators in my country and also support by active development. But I feel lost the s-pen feature and the heartbeat sensor.

What about performance? Did you notice any changes in day to day performance? e.g. email, multi tasking? What about sound quality via headphones? is it better, worse, the same?
Thank you very much!

I think for better performance on xiaomi especially on graphics performance, but for image quality is still good samsung because of resolution and amoled screen. For multitasking I think the same is equally fast and for the sound quality is definitely better on xiaomi as it supports hi-res audio

No they are not equally fast in multitasking. RN4 beats GN4 in multitasking.
Don't replace it. I've just ordered a Xiaomi as a backup phone for my galaxy note 4. Galaxy Note 4 is the best phone I've ever had. My galaxy still runs on kitkat. If your phone is still well, there's no reason to replace it. Trust me. Best whishes
The battery is better. That's it.

This. If a phone is working there's no need to replace, keep it as a spare or repurpose it. My Galaxy Note 1 is now an alarm + dashcam

I really appreciate your answer. Thank you for that.
I really like GS4 - agree with your assessment. But some things do nag me starting with battery (I have a replacement battery but there are times when both batteries during one day are not sufficient), some lag in processing (managing email, office, onenote) and lack of fingerprint security (security is a big issue for me). All in all, if I could keep size and screen and improve all other points I would switch. But only if I could get a hi-res (sound) replacement (music is a big deal for me) at a "friendly" budget (i.e. non flagship prices).
I've considered MI Max but read some complaints about sound. Redmi Note 4 is listed in some forums as a mini-Mi Max and that was the reason I was considering it. Not anymore thanks to you

Hello everyone,
I've had my sgs3 over a year now and enjoyed every bit of it. now im looking for a replacement but on cheaper side. it doesn't need to be a flagship and I mostly look for gamin and multimedia capabilities with best camera for the price. so I came across Xiaomi Note Enhanced version for about 200$ and it seems just about perfect. mainly Meadiatek 1.7Ghzx8 CPU, Mali-450 GPU with 2gb ram it seems like a steal. but Im afraid of what Im losing and what Im gaining.I have no expierince with MIUI evr. so if you can share your thought, Its much appreciated.
1. would MIUI run every droid game and apps like regular Android? (I know about xposed not working. but im concerned about TB, Greenify, SuperSU, Root Explorer.
2. It says Mali-450 is 1.4x improvement over Mali-400. but our SGS3 runs mali400mp4 and clocked 533. so how would this par?
3. I dont care about screen mirroring DLNA and stuff. but for sound quality I crave. so anyone have expierience with xiaomi sound, input will be a great help.
4. for the last, I would like to know your opinion as I think of giving my s3 to my gf if I got satisfied with Redmi Note. but of course never leave the forum sake of im a xda user who wouldn't use a phone in regular manner is it worth to give away s3 over this redmi note?
Thank you.
I just got the Redmi Note, maybe this will help you a little?

Custom ROMs will be a problem since there aren't enough devs to port or build roms for that device.
And I've spoken to just 2 Xiaomi users and they don't like it at all. It's not just about the number of cores in the CPU or GPU. MTK is A-7 based and offers poor performance compared to A-9 or A-15 CPU.

Damn! such a bad news. My budget is $200 dollars and the lists of phones I have in mind are: Xiaomi Redmi Note,iOcean X7 Elite,THL T11 MTK6592 and Huawei Honor 3C Quad Core.. But like you see they all have MTK.... Sinse all have the same performance I was thinking to get one well known company better..
Go for redmi note. You, as a normal user, won't give rat's ass about a15, a9 etc. The a7 octa gives enough performance for everyday use. And miui is da bomb

Hopefully you held off for the Note 2 it's @ 1.7GHz , not the 1.4 GHz the original note was at.
Development is centered at the MIUI site, go there for more info.
Over all the phone is fast, very fast, so fast you will only see the difference between the A9/17 or Snapdragon 800 8274AB 2.3GHz and the A7 by software measurements.
I'm deciding between the Note 2 and the THL 5000.
5½" and 3300mAh Vs 5" and 5000mAh
so at the end,
which smart phone did you buy ?
i already bought a Redmi Note
still enjoying it
Well... I have two units here just arrived...Almost everything work as it should, but I have problems making data connection working. Wi-fi works great, but data over mobile network doesn't want to work at all. I've checked out on both units using different SIM cards (from different providers). I have to mention that the SIM cards work using other phones. AND I have to say that didn't want to sign up yet for any of the xiaomi services (cloud and rest). It must be somewhere in MIUI a setting. MIUI is a customised version of Android.
For the price seems to be a good product.

there are 3 version of redmi note2 (which you probably have). One of them is made for China 3g networks and other is WSCDMA.
When battery is removed you can read which version you have (maybe it's not usable on your networks).
Bought redmi note recently and I can say that it feels faster that Samsung Note 2 (I have both phones).
xiaomi phones are not replacement but best phones
...in terms of hardware specs and value for money, looks is something personal. Why branded phones are very expensive are because of their marketing cost and the cost attached to the brand value. Other than that xiaomi phones are very good.
My cousin bought the Xiaomi Mi3 and i bought a Redmi 1S for my fiance and both the phones are awesome and have very good camera and sound quality.
I have been using Galaxy S3 since 2012, and let me tell you I have been using MIUI Rom even before on my Sony Xperia X10, so as I got my S3 i rooted it and installed MIUI rom.
Yes, all your apps and games will run without any problem as it is Android, every manufacturer have their own version of Launcher and apps to differentiate their phones. What made me fall in love with MIUI were its native apps and features (like call recording which is available only when rooting, but in Xiaomi phones this is built in), and themes (you can change everything to your liking with one click- the dialer, messaging, statusbar, wallpaper, bopot animation, lockscreen, font, etc. or change each individually, and their themes are awesome).
I would suggest you to go for Xiaomi Mi3 if it suits your budget. But if you already have Samsung Galaxy S3 and if its performing good enough, then no point buying a phone with similar hardware. I am waiting for Mi4 to launch in India. Its a kickass phone (google it).
keep 'em both
Got both phones. Still love my SGS3 for the customizations.
More Redmi Note ROMs here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-26132-1-1.html
flashed mine with the ported Color OS. performed better than the original MIUI OS. you could also try the AOSP ROM faux 4.4.2 (actually its just 4.2.2) seem nice. i just dont like the developer switched the main storage for the external and so on..
hi guys i really want to know why to buy the redmi 3 if it have almost the same specification like the note 2. i can but the redmi 2 16gb at : 130$ [ ill add 32gb memory card ]
and the redmi 3 32gb for 210$. is the camera so good, or the finger print reader are a good reason to pay 70-80 $ extra ?!
if ill buy the redmi 16gb for about 170$ im afraid from lack of space ): so what to do ? :crying:

Redmi Note 2 Prime vs Redmi Note 3
Redmi Note 2 Prime (32GB version):
-Better processor clock (2.2. GHz vs 2.0GHz)
-Better Price
-Bootloader unlock (-> Unofficial European ROM available)
-SD-card slot
Redmi Note 3 (32GB version)
-Fingerprint sensor
-Metal body
-Better Battery (4000mAh vs 3060mAh)
-Dual Tone LED
In my opinion Redmi Note 2 Prime is much better than Redmi Note 3 that isn't usable because it has got a locked bootloader.
~ Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime ~
Id prefer rn2 over rn3 because of its price and its little development comunity. The only thing I like of rn3 is its metal body and better batery life (3000 mah vs 4000 mah), but for me it is not worthy.

I don't think that the RN2 battery will be enough for you.
We must be objective: RN2 battery life is short, compared to others smartphones with 3000 mAh (+/-).

The only way to have a long battery is to avoid the use of Facebook and Whatsapp in my opinion (Facebook for sure).

Yep, hes right, rn2 hasnt a great battery life even its big battery, but it still being acceptable, it just could be better. However, i have heard in some video reviews that rn3 is even worst with battery, and there isnt any real difference with rn2.
And well, i have a rn2 with last developer rom from xiaomi.eu, and it hasnt a great battery life, some releases ago it was pretty nice, but since the last 2 versions its been worst. However, this means that the problem is from the ROM and not from the phone, and as they are getting optimized we will have better battery life, and even better when we get marshmallow since lollipop has problems with this and with RAM management.
I still thinking rn2 is better option , but you decide my friend.

It will, rn2 will get marshmallow, its confirmed, it will get it maybe in may of this year. And yep, is interesting, you should watch or read some reviews of it.
Marshmallow
The Redmi Note 2 has been confirmed to get Marshmallow in a few months.
Also, I do have my RN2 at the moment and a huge downfall is stock MIUI RAM consumption.
I'd say the RN2, bigger community and like someone said, unlocked bootloader.

AFAIK, there are no RN2-16GB-specific ROMs.
And considering that:
1. It's not possible to build a custom kernel for our phone, right now
2. As a result of 1, all custom ROMs use Xiaomi's pre-built kernels from official MIUI ROMs (which in turn, are designed to work on all versions of RN2)
..I don't think it likely that such ROMs will appear in the foreseeable future.

I'm also thinking about buying RN2 or RN3 and I found this post: http://en.miui.com/thread-202290-1-1.html
It seems that unlocking the bootloader in RN3 is possible now and actually not hard at all. Does anyone have RN3 to try this?
I have a Note 2 and I would prefer this. SD Card and removable battery are too much to lose only to have a metal unibody (that maybe will always covered by a cover)
May be redmi note 3 32GB is better ,battery 4000mAH
I have the Note 3 and regret it, should have gone for the Note 2 and my reasons are:
Pros of the Note 3 vs Note 2
- Battery
- Metal Build
Cons Note 3:
- Fingerprint sensor only has one use, which is to turn on the screen, you can't use with anything else...
- No expandable storage
- And the main one, that is driving me mad is the locked bootloader, you can unlock it, but you have to request the code on their website, but to get this code you have to wait a long time, some are saying 14+ days and you might not be selected, like if you have to be special to get it, WTF Xiaomi???
So if you don't care about the plastic build, go for the Note 2, it's cheaper, with expandable storage, faster CPU on the Prime model and a freaking unlocked bootloader.
Seems there's a way to unlock RN3 bootloader, I'll quote from Xiaomi.eu website:

The camera isn't as good as expected it's poor quality and takes time to focus it has slightly improved with the update. The 4g isn't an issue it's just that currently most networks use 4g for data only so when a call is received the phone automatically switches to 3g.

If you really like MIUI, then I'd say its worth it...There's not a lot available for custom ROMs and I don't know if there ever will be. I also am unsure if Xiaomi will ever bring Nougat to the phone either, though I would expect it at this point.
The phone is pretty fast..It's the software that is holding it back...I have a Nextbit Robin with the 808 processor (Same as your 5x), and this thing smokes the robin in real world performance (And Geekbench4).

That's the story for every Mi and I've used a couple.
To me the best solution would be getting rid of MIUI and going with stock... but on Mi h/w. Easier said than done though. Ah well at least one can get the Google Now launcher and the app drawer.
I've been a 'flashaholic' with my previous phone the LG G3, and changing to RN4 is a pretty big deal for me(because MediaTek and MIUI)
You can't expect the same support since you're coming from a NEXUS device but there's a decent amount of ROMs for the RN4 here and more to come.
Stock MIUI 8 isn't bad actually, just paired it with root access, nougat theme and nova launcher. All good for me.

if you get it for cheap then yeah. TRy getting the snapdragon version for INSANE battery life. Apart from that, the MTK version shares all the same features (like camera quality) as the snapdragon one. One thing though; the MTK one charges one hour faster that the Snapdragon version. For the record, the 4100Mah Redmi note 4 MTK charges in 2 hours and 10 minutes from 5% using a 5V 2A charger. add 1 hour for the snapdragon version.

Yes it does.
Nougat based MIUI beta version is available. I have been using 4 GB model & my advice is to just go for it.
I have preferred MIUI & have stuck to Xiaomi handsets. Recently, I purchased Moto Z Play as Xiaomi phones were coming hybrid Sim with just 32 GB internal memory, which were not fulfilling my needs. But I was annoyed by lack of customisation, firewall, Blocklist, Call Recorder, internet speed meter & auto BackUp, which are present in MIUI & are absent in Moto Z Play. Now for Moto Z Play, I had to install a lot of additional softwares, but sense of perfection with MIUI was somehow missing. In first Redmi Note 4 sale, I purchased a 4GB variant & sold Moto Z Play for pittance.
Hello everyone... Need some advice about which one of these 3 to purchase. Just can't decide on whether I should go for a wicked dual camera or the power of a SD 820. Im not a heavy gamer but I do want a reliable phone. Is UMIDIGI a good brand? On paper it looks pretty decent, really confused, and I only have a a budget of $350 Australian. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Im not a heavy gamer but I do want a reliable phone. Is UMIDIGI a good brand? On paper it looks pretty decent, really confused, and I only have a a budget of $350 Australian. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, is this still an open thread or did you buy that already?
I got a leeco max 2 here and a redmi note tree. For daily use i take the leeco, because of his power, the 21MP Camera, which i use in JPG/RAW mode for taking amazing shots. And with cuoco92's rom which i use a longer time now, i feel happy to get a 'build in' adblocker (adaway is installed).
I hope this helps.
