I have tried booting into TWRP Recovery via ADB and by pressing power button and volume to no avail.
I have read other posts on this forum about the same problem but seems no solution as yet. Its just reboots into stock Rom.
My Phone : E2303 (Single Sim)
Bootloader : unlocked
Rom : Mashmallow Stock
I flashed TWRP via this tutorial: freeandroidroot.com/how-to-root-sony-xperia-m4-aqua
Any ideas?

That's the thing - I used the boot.img from the link you shared to root the phone and I was using the TWRP 3.0.2-0 nicki.img for recovery. But still doesn't boot into recovery when I close the phone down and press start button while holding volume down.
maybe this works?

Hello
I have been reading through the threads here but can't seem to find a rooting method for Z2 on 5.1.1 546. Bootloader is unlocked. If this has been discussed somewhere already please kindly point me to the relevant page. Thank you
If you already are on 5.1.1, unrooted, you'll have to either flash a kernel with recovery and then flash superSU(since you bootloader is unlocked) or you'll have to downgrade to 4.4.2, root and install recovery and then make a rootable 5.1.1 zip file and flash it.
Flashable zipfile can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/ftf-cutomized-23-1-0-726-cda-1281-9809-t3082166.

Thanks. I will try that. I was hoping I wouldn't need to downgrade though. :good:

Hey, sorry to be a bother. My problem is I also can't get into recovery. I have used samsung all my life this is my first non-samsung device so it's vexing me a little. I used fastboot to flash twrp, cwm, philz but each time I can't get into recovery. sometimes I get purple led but it doesn't progress from there. got any ideas?

You press the volume button down when the purple light shows, right?
Norwegian
Du trykker på volum knappen nedover et par ganger når lyset lyser lilla, ikke sant?
Same for me here. Flashed 5.1 via flashtool and unlocked the bootloader then. But none of the recoverys boot. And no purple light either.
Worked this Morning, when i was on 5.0
go download twrp from their site
go into fastboot mode
fastboot flash recovery [twrp recovery image name].img
Now you should be able to access recovery by pressing vol up multiple times on boot (if it doesn't work, try vol down, or the power button) , you won't see any purple light as that is related to Androplus kernel I think

for me twrp is the most unresponsive of all the recoveries I tried. it gets stuck on the Sony start up screen
Just an update on my case, I have had a breakthrough (somewhat) with recovery. I flashed extracted the boot.img from the kernel on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/kernel-andropluskernel-v10-t2974841 and fastboot flashed it as per instructions on the post. I was then able to boot into twrp but couldn't boot into the system due to bootloop. tried to flash a pre tooted stock zip didn't work either so I had to flash CM12. Since I had always wanted to try cm12 I can do so while I'm still trying to find my way back to stock lol. Root works now though, which way my major issue.
Hi, is there a way to root for locked bl?

U need a custom kernel from 5.0.2 then flash recovery. Turn on ur phone and when u see the led colour press volume down
I had a locked bootloader and 5.1.1 on my Xperia Z2. I downloaded an original firmware 5.0.2, flashed it with FlashTools and then applied root without any problem. Also I installed a recovery, so I can now enter by keeping pressed vol-down from first vibration on start until it vibrates many times.
can you please tell me how did you come back to 5.0.2 because whenever i am flashing 5.0.2 my cell phone stuck in booting screen and restarting
My issue is really complicated and I believe its my phone manufacturer issue.
I've been trying to unlock my lollipop 5.1 phone in order to flash custom recovery using "fastboot oem unlock" and I got to the phase where I'm to continue with volume up or decline with volume down but none of those buttons are working in that mode. This is the same with stock recovery, those keys don't work either. Do you have any suggestions.
My device is MT6592
Kernel 3.10.72+
ROM stock lollipop 5.1 aosp

I have the same problem any luck fixing it
There's no need unlocking it, just flash the recovery with spFlashTool software. There are guides on using the tool on the net.

can you remember how do you install it, especially after flashing the recovery as I can't enter the recovery mode (vol up + power) after flashing but the device boot normally then I use adb reboot recovery to boot to recovery and I think it could be a part of the problem (as in Samsung I should remove the battery and boot to recovery)
use the latest sp flashtool to flash it. Boot to recovery using volume up + power.... where did u get your previous recovery from?

Hello,
I own a lenovo a7000-a. Today I tried to root it with some one click apps like kingo, srs and iroot but all failed. After sometime I tried to access the recovery mode only to find out that it had been in 'meta' mode and now it won't allow me to access the recovery menu. The phone is operating normally though.
Is there any way I can disable that 'meta' mode? Thanks in advance
U don't need to go to meta mode.. U have to press vol+ vol- and power ... And u can't root it with cwm u have to flash twrp and then root
I have the same problem with my lenovo a916. After a failed try to install twrp since there is no version for my model available I flashed to stock rom and now I cannot enter recovery mode. Now when I press vol down and power up it entered meta mode. Can someone help?

Well I managed to flash twrp and a custom rom (resurrection remix) without any problem recently. If I remember correctly there are some unofficial twrp builds for Lenovo a916, you can try flashing it.
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-lenovo-a916/
there is a twrp version and some useful other stuff.
Download and Enjoy

Thank you both but I tried this one but i cannot seem to be able to make this TWRP Recovery work unless I root my phone and even then it only works when I access it by choosing reboot in recovery mode when the phone is running. When I try to access it when opening the phone with the require button combination the phone just freezes or enter in meta mode again.
It seems its messed up for good and I can't do anything about it :/
Thanks for your time anyway guys
hiiii alll..
Recently my moto E 1st generation mobile android os has crashed. I have given in mobile repair shop and they are telling that its not accepting software. always showing moto symbol itself when it restarted. could anyone tell me how to recover the os or reinstall
note: my mobile is not rooted.
even can i install android version.... please respond
Yes definately you can install android
Just root your phone and install custom recovey like twrp and then install any custom rom which can be downloaded from xda
It's easy
I repaired a non-rooted moto e with the same problem. you have to check your phone goes into fastboot mode (switch off the phone, press volume down + power button for 10 secs). Then you have to unlock the bootloader, install twrp and flash whichever os u want . For unlocking bootloader and installing twrp there are so many threads in xda

Hi guys, need a bit of help. I followed the following guide and seems like a new recovery has been installed on my note 2 but no root or twrp. Any ideas ?
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-root-and-unroot-redmi-note-2/
Phone is fine but i do need to root and have twrp installed on it. Alternatively, do you have a link where I can achieve this easily as I want to put a a new rom on my phone. Sorry for the amateurish questions, its been a while since i have installed custom roms
Many thanks
This guide is old.
When I received my RN2 I installed TWRP from the Updated app, but now this is not possible anymore.
You have to flash TWRP image via fastboot.
Look at Fastboot Install Method here: https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomiredminote2.html
The image could be downloaded from: https://dl.twrp.me/hermes/twrp-3.0.2-0-hermes.img
Remember to keep vol+ pressed when you'll restart using fastboot reboot until it enter TWRP to prevent original recovery from restoring.
Once you are done, you'll be able to flash SuperSU.
Ok, ill try that. Thing is that I have lost fastboot, when i do power + volume up, i get to the TWRP 2.8.7 screen. Is this a problem ?

power + volume up is to enter recovery
To enter fastboot use power + volume down.
EDIT:
if with power + volume up you are entering TWRP, there is not need to do other than install supersu (unless you want to update TWRP).
Many thanks. Got this sorted. Running cm at the mo, cool. What is the best rom in ur opinion by the way? Any oxygen based roms?
I don't know the current status of CM on RN2, but generally speaking, IMHO ported ROM are not better then official ROM because there is always something not working.
Unfortunately there are no sources for RN2.
