[Q] Automated Premium subscription with Chrome - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I want to share with you some of the most annoying and strange thing that never happens to me.
As usually, i was browsing the internet with my huawei Mate 9 and i entered a website. Then suddenly an ad apear i push the "close" button and after that, i was subscribed to a pay service!
Ok, i go to the SMS, and go to the desuscription, and inmediatly call to my carrier to tell the problem and block "Pay with my phone contract" ( may vary in your contry, mine is spain) The agent say me that is a commom new way of procedure in this cases and is becaming a big issue.
Then, my main thing is: HOW can an updated chrome for android without the SMS permissions ( i check it) send it a SMS OR, how can chrome, share my number to a third party page/app without comunicate it to the user.
I think that is an important issue for all who browse the internet with his mobile phone.

[Q] Beginner questions about contacts

Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.

Gmail Account Hijacked - including Google Play Store

Last week I noticed a device under my Google Play account (My Devices) that is not mine, a phone on a Romanian cell phone company network. I also noticed that someone from Russia had accessed my Gmail account. I changed my Gmail password (the old one was alpha-numerica,random, with symbols) and turned on two step authentication.
The Gmail account seems to be ok. The contacts all there and no messages removed or messages sent by people other than me.
The only sign of the intrusion is about a dozen "free" apps ordered by that device. It included sketchy gambling apps, a child's game that from comments I read has adult advertisements, and ringtones. After I changed the password there are new "free" media on the account - books and various video. These appear to be from a different user - all in English as opposed to Russian and nothing sketchy.
My guess on how this started - I downloaded an app with about 100 reviews. The next day the "free" apps started to appear, and the unauthorized device also was added the next day.
My SGS 3 isn't rooted. For Jellybean it seems that I have to wait for a stable root, should be another few days.
I contacted the Play Store support and they were of no help. They referred me to Gmail support but Gmail doesn't offer phone support. I think only support on a Google Group forum.
Any idea how this could have happened and how to get this device off of my account? My PC's are secure and my primary PC is Linux.

I have the IMEI # of the phone added to my account, also the model number (registered in Russian Federation). Could the IMEI be useful? I can PM if interested.
Imeis are quite useful to many people...Just don't pursue this on xda.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
My account too was almost hacked.
I signed into youtube and a notice was shown that someone from ip in china tried to log into my google account and it denied them and i changed my password. No weird apps nothing.
The thing is probably the app you downloaded.
Just because it has 100 downloads doesn't mean its malware but you need to check permissions always.
Even big games like "Paper Toss" has been know to sell peoples info to companies.
When you read permissions. There should be a list of all the options the app requests.
Be Smart. If you download a calculator, It shouldn't have access to your personal identy, messages and the big key is internet access.
If you download a calender it may need access to contacts but it it also needs internet access, its probably is storing your contacts and sending them out to a site that then sells to a company and lastly, your grandparents receive phone calls asking if they want to buy a service and use your name as who referred them.
Also. rooting is a good option. With an app on here called pdroid or droidwall you can download those apps but it will alert yyou when the app wants to use a permission (like internet) and gives you the option to allow or deny.
good luck
I have one update. I think that after I changed my password and went to two step verification, the purchases of "free" apps and media stopped. It's been four days and nothing new added. So far so good. Thanks for the replies. BTW, Google of no help.
I'd still like to know how the Gmail account was compromised - I may never know.
similar thing just happened to me (Galaxy Note) appeared on my account from no where. When I contacted google if they can help or if they are interested in tracking him down, all they said was we cant help you. And change the pw. Obviously I know that I need to change the pw. I know Apple would have tracked it down somehow if it was an iphone. My pw has 22 characters number letter symbols yet it was hacked.
Since google is not helping me I installed Android Lost app on this NOTE and waiting to get a location update via email. I know it wont do anything much and I cant do anything against him or her since no paid apps were downloaded. Still I would like to do something to crooks like this. He only had 6 apps installed (facebook, viber candy rush) and terminal emulator (which worried me).
I really hope that Android close their unlimited backdoors in the OS.

[Q] Using G+ in different countries

Greetings,
while staying in a hotel in Mexico last year, I tried to use my G+ to share some photos with friends and family.
I was able to use my phone quiet normal, meaning it was possible to send emails (including using the gmail-account), browse websites and use WhatsApp and Skype.
But when I tried to use G+, I was prevented from logging in. Instead I received an email (ironically from my gmail account) saying someone would have tried to hack my account and I should log in to check, if everything would be okay.
Just, I was not able to log in, neither using the G+ app nor using the web login with the browser.
After I got back home, I could log in normally and I was asked if I want to continue using my account from Mexico in the future. I said yes and was asked to log in from Mexico within 10 Minutes, what was unfortunately not possible from the other side of the world.
I would like to prevent that from happening again, so my questions would be, if someone had similar problems and what needs to be done to get access from everywhere, including from a hotels wifi in a foreign country.
Thanks,
Ferdi

[Q] Detect a second Facebook account on a Android device

Hi,
First excuse my english which is not my natural language.
I have a serious issue to resolve.
I would like to know if my daughter use a second and secret Facebook account on her smartphone (with the Facebook app). I have an access to this smartphone, I can switch it on. I know her main account, but i suspect her of using a second account to talk with a radical person, maybe a dangerous person.
Is there a simple way to know if there is a second account used on the smartphone, ans if so, its login (not the password, i don't want to see private conversations) ?
Thank you so much,
Bob

I am having problem with WeChat

Hello,good day everyone
This is bloodygood(oh I really don't want to say my name) from Nigeria
Please I am having problems with my phone or should I say WeChat,I probably don't know
I have downloaded and installed WeChat from playstore five times now and also register five times, but anytime I register and scan the WeChat (which is really hard this days) it always blocked my account(I always register new account because it's really hard to unblock it) but my other friends have theirs still working up to 5 months
And they always Suggest it's my phone that's making WeChat to block my account
So guys I really want to know where the problem originate from. my phone is a Tecno camon 11,4gb and 64gb RAM, thank you.
@Bloodygood
There’re three types of WeChat account blocked, One is temporary block and can get unblocked by yourself. The other one just can’t get unblocked by yourself, you need to ask WeChat to help you unblock it. Or you need to wait for one or two weeks to unblock it or it will be unblock automatically. As for the last one is permanently block, there’s no way to unblock it, as you’ve violated the terms of WeChat so much.
Thank you for your reply @jwoegerbauer
But this is the first time I am hearing that temporarily blocked WeChat can automatically get unblocked by itself.
But why do all my 5 separate WeChat account keep getting blocked ?
Is it from my phone
Because it is perfectly working on others but when it comes to mine it is always writing security threat like this account is suspicious.
Have you tried logging in from different IP or using VPN?

The reasons for WeChat account block
1. WeChat you downloaded on your phone is from an unofficial channel.
2. Phone is rooted what put your WeChat account security endanger.
3. Your WeChar account is reported to send or share some content including lewd content, violent materials, scams, inappropriate rumors, annoying ads, etc.
4. The phone number you used to log in or register WeChat is provided by virtual network operators.
5. You are using a phone number for WeChat account that is operating abnormally.
6. You've been reported by other users for multiple times.
7. You are using WeChat account for violating its terms.

I downloaded it from playstore
My phone is not rooted
I actually don't have less than 4 people on my WeChat
Which I have never send inappropriate things
The number is alright I have used it on other sites, they are all working perfectly
Even I was reported,I never did receive a warning
So I'm afraid of registering a new one in my phone to avoid being blocked
Maybe WeChat have got my Mac address,my IP address and my serial number,so that anytime I do register on that device I will surely get blocked
@Bloodygood
Wondering why you don't simply contact WeChat Help Center to get your problem solved?
