So, as most of you know, Google released an update to Google Play Services that allows all phones with Nougat and Marshmallow firmware to use Google Assistant. Good!
This new feature unfortunately has to be rolled out through Google's servers. Bad
There is a simple way to force enable Google Assistant on (almost) all your devices, and all you need is root and edit your build.prop
*Please remember that these build.prop aren't necessary because Google will eventually push it your device through the rollout. However, this method just ensures that you get Google Assistant now without having to wait for that happen. So, while it may not be necessary, it can be very helpful for many marshmallow and nougat devices at this time*
Now for the "How to" part:
0. Make sure you have the latest Google Play Services, the Google app, and your device is rooted
1. Open your build.prop editor (I use J Rummy's editor) and add this single line to the bottom of your build.prop-
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Save it
3. Reboot your device
4. Wait for your device to completely boot (I waited a few minutes afterwards, just to be sure)
5. Hold your Home Button and behold this magical moment...
*This method is very similar to what we used to Enable Google Assistant in the past. However, this method works without the need to change your device name to "Pixel" or Manufacturer to "Google" in the build.prop because Google Assistant is now updated through Google Play services to allow (almost) all devices to use it now
-So for nexus devices (6P/5X), this means you get to keep your Auto HDR Camera Mode because you didn't modify your device name or manufacturer name in build.prop.
(changing those names would have taken away those said options from the Google Camera app)
I hope this helps most of you guys out there eagerly waiting for Assistant to hit your device. It worked for me ?

Edit : I updated my device to March Security update and after two days I got the assistant update without tweaking the build.prop and there is no animation for the home button

i see you're french too : do you know how to make it work when your phone system language is french ?
my build prop is ready to get google assistant, but when i got to google app setting, it says "google assistant not available in your country" and the google asssistant setting are greyed.
maybe there's a way to use google assistant (and google app) in english, and the rest of the phone in french ?

I don't need assistance and to be honest, I've never looked into it.
Maybe try to setup the assistant with English language first? And once everything works, try switching system language?
I'd try this way. Maybe open a thread in Q/A section to see if people managed to get it working with foreign system language.
That's great, got it to update now. Will the battery take a hit of the "OK Google" recognition is left on?
I've added the line, updated play services, ran full aroma installer for gapps, still no assistant. Running Alcatel Idol 3 on lineage os 13.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Updated to latest Google play services, added line to build.prop and still no assistant. Root Stock ROM 6.0.1 September security patch.

I just flashed the March update and re-rooted, and I have assistant now. Was going to edit the build prop, but apparently the update enables it.

Were you prompted to setup Google Assistant? I just updated to the March OTA manually on my 6p in hopes it would help me get Google Assistant sooner. I understand the two might not be dependent on one another but it didn't work for me. I'm using Nova launcher and when I long press the middle Circle button, it only pulls up On Tap.
No need anymore.... my 6P just got GA live just now.
Do you need root to make the edits? I tried to edit but it won't save the file.

Yes.
I had it working, but the March update has removed it again. I've updated build.prop again and it's come back.

ALL THE GOOGLE APPS IN ONE PACK
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS -- PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE TRYING
What is gExperience?
Its a pack that has ALL the Google Apps in one single place for which you can select individually what you want to install! This pack not only has the standard Google Apps but also what is available at the Play Store, including restricted apps not available in every country. It also has inverted versions for available apps. It also tries to install all possible apps to /data partition so you don't end up with no space in /system. Finally, you can choose to uninstall undeed files for your language (like Offline Google Now, Pico TTS). All of this fully customizable thanks to Aroma Installer.
What is included exactly?
You can check a list here. Please note that as of now there are some apps not available for install (even though they show up in the installer).
These unavailable apps are:
All Google TV apps (if someone knows where to get them, please PM me)
Google Catalogs (if someone knows where to get it, please PM me)
Google Apps Device Policy
Google Apps Lookup
Google Chrome to Phone (1 request so far)
Google Analytics
Google Authenticator
Google Finance
All Google IME
Google IO 2012
Orkut
Schemer
If I receive 5 or more request for any of these apps I will try to include them
How do I install this?
Just like any script in CWM Recovery. Just select the zip and let Aroma guide you through the rest.
Can I install on my NOT Defy device?
Is my understanding that this script should work with no problems with Bravo and Milestone 2 devices. It should work with other devices as there's no device dependent scripting. Please note that this pack DOES NOT includes FaceLock as it is not supported for my device.
Currently known supported devices:
Defy
Is there anything else I should know?
YES, please be aware that whatever you choose NOT to install will be DELETED from your device (if you have that app installed obviously). This only applies for apps installed with gExperience.
Can I install on top of my full size gapps?
You can, but it can lead to unexpected results. One thing you have to understand is that the app name can have any name (it will not affect the name of the app when you install it). For example, I can name the YouTube apk as "XDAYT.APK". It will install normally and with no problems but there's no way for the script to know the name of the file of every app installed so this script will only install and uninstall apps installed by itself. You're probably better off installing this on a fresh ROM with no gapps installed.
Can I translate it to my language?
Sure you can! Please point your browser here: http://www.getlocalization.com/gEx/
Languages supported:
English (by me) | UP TO DATE
Spanish (by me with some help from edqu) | UP TO DATE
Polish (thanks to trurl3) | 0.2 beta
Portuguese (Brazil) (thanks to GustavoMartins1 / claudiobastos) | UP TO DATE
Hungarian (thanks to hunya) | UP TO DATE
Chinese (Taiwan) (thanks to wjh) | 0.2 beta
Can I send you my calibration_matrix data?
You don't need to do it anymore! Amarullz updated the Aroma Installer and now calibration is not required anymore!:victory:
I want to report a bug! What shall I do?
Try to give me as much information as possible (like gExperience version, device, apps selected, etc). Also you could save the log right after the script finishes. You will see a "Save Log" button on the bottom left hand side.
This is too much for me! Is there a lighter version?
Yes, please see this thread.

Yes please. I will add it to the installer so you don't have to calibrate Aroma installer every time! Just download calibration.zip and then install it via CWM like any other script (Press Power button on first dialog to select no). After finishing the new data will be written to calibration.zip. Send it to me and let me know which device are you using! YOUR SYSTEM WILL NOT BE MODIFIED. IT WILL ONLY GET YOUR CALIBRATION DATA AND FINISH

If you have installed T.A.R.S. 19s, you can make a TWRP backup of your current version, install 20s, configure Setup Wizard, and then restore from TWRP of your DATA partition. All yours apps and configuration back again.
BE CAREFUL THAT YOU HAVENT ANY PATTERN OR FINGERPRINT TO UNLOCK YOUR PHONE BEFORE BACKUP BECAUSE WHEN RESTORE DATA DONT RECOGNIZED YOUR PATTERN OR FP AT BOOT.

updated Nougat 7.0 visit here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7/development/rom-axvy-rom-sm-j7108-stable-sexy-af-t3687461
Bloatwares are removed and This Rom contain Google Play!
Hello guys, are you ready for j7108 or SM-J7108 Marshmallow 6.0.1 update?
- more control over privacy
- new font for lockscreen
- rounded UI
- new transition
- layout changed and some icons updated
- wifi signal is synced in notification panel
- screenshot whole scrollable area!
- spacebar length increased
Weird and lack of change of Marshmallow update:
Swipe screen to unlock even if you got password. Ffs I want to direct enter my password, Samsung!
- still don't have Undo keyboard and don't have Scroll to Top #SamsungAddItPlease
Tips for keyboard:
Set Keyboard Swipe to Cursor Control, when you typing you can move the cursor up down left right easily
Keyboard size is helpful especially for those screen with problem
Note: I mod this Rom for lower Ram usage, save battery life and better performance, you can see all the changes below to decide whether you want to use it or not, some apps can be installed in Play Store.
[Package that are removed]
securitylogagent
silentlogging
ColorBlind_M
youtube
chrome
Hangout
Google app - velvek
flipkart
onedrive
skype
youtube
Edited build.prop for optimisation:
ro.media.enc.jpeg.quality=100 #I seriously don't know if it help, default might is 100 ald
Disables built in error reporting:
profiler.force_disable_err_rpt=1
profiler.force_disable_ulog=1
Disable logcat
logcat.live=disable
Use google Dns for speed:
net.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.dns2=8.8.4.4
net.rmnet0.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.rmnet0.dns2=8.8.4.4
net.wlan0.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.wlan0.dns2=8.8.4.4
no noticeable boot time speed change but you won't need the boot animation as well (default boot animation is annoying). Assume the battery use to display the animation is saved
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
and keyboard with red underline on wrong text can be enabled with this rom. Settings > Language and input > Samsung keyboard > Auto check spelling:
My warranty is voided last time because I didn't know about frp lock while flashing wrong rom of other country.

This will update your phone, it will NOT erase anything. I have tested it myself and it's fully functioning.
Fyi, when preparing update it take lot of time processing, don't interrupt it and it will come to the last step optimise app.

Don't be such a jerk, open a separate thread if you want to post something. We are talking about tweaked and bloatwares removed Rom here. Like someone need you to google for them, if it's the untouched firmware I won't post it already

Not saying it's impossible to happen coz that make no sense but thanks for your feedback.
Samsung just push an update. Will post the download link soon, I will be super busy probably till March
Hi doulc
I wish I had seen this thread earlier. Does your ROM have all the Microsoft Office apps in it? I hope not. Currently, in order to get google sevices I am using the HK official ROM but it has MS Office which is huge bloat and I cannot uninstall it. China ROM was less bloat but no google services.
If you say you will have an update in March I will wait for it otherwise I will download and install now. I don't care about warranty void - mine is already voided.

If you download and install now you will receive update notification (patch of 24/2/2017).
Samsung hasn't push another critical Android's security update of March, I'm waiting for them to release it for j7108.
It do have Microsoft Office coz it's useful sometime(for me I use Xcel, word, pp) when opening documents sent by someone or offline viewing.
I'm lack of enthusiastic right now, if you don't mind I appreciate it if you can donate me 2$ and I can help to build the Rom without Office apps for you.
Currently I just dismissed the update notification.
I have this phone on a stock rom and it does not have the roaming option....if I install this rom will I have the roaming option available?

If you are sure it's SM-J7108, then you can try to see the result. Hard to tell
Note when u enter recovery/odin mode, check carefully the model

[MAGISK MODULE] [APP] Google Pay downgrader for Wear OS on Pie & RootPayEnabler app
OreoPay4PieWear
version 1
Wear Magisk module to downgrade Google Pay on Wear OS Pie to Oreo version to bypass unsupported country message
This module if for all who updated their Wear OS devices to Pie and are locked out of Google Pay due to the Geo-location restrictions on the Pie version that are present for the wear but not the phone. This module will likely become obsolete once Google decides to deprecate the Oreo version of Google Pay and prevent the use of it. Hence please continue to support this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/WearOS/comments/bghqiq/just_talked_with_google_support_they_have_no_idea/
Instructions:
Install/Flash Magisk module: OreoPay4PieWear_v1.zip
Refrain from updating Google Pay in the play store
If accidentally updated, just uninstall updates on the play store page
Optional: Because using this module means that your device is rooted, use my version of PayEnabler attached that uses "pm enable" to re-enable and automatically start Google Pay instead of accessibility services when it gets automatically disabled.
Use Google Pay from unsupported countries on wear again

Uses "pm enable" and root (apparently required) to enable Google Pay, then proceeds to open Google Pay

Instructions:
Install and open app via ADB: RootPayEnabler.apk (adb install path/to/RootPayEnabler.apk)
On screens that cover the allow button, let the root request dialog to timeout and allow it manually in manager
Allow root access if not allowed yet and re-open the app
Open the app every time Google Pay is needed

Are there people who are unable to add cards due to a rooted device message?
If so, please try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79636737&postcount=1719
If that still doesn't work, try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79637148&postcount=1720
Please do let me know which method works so I can incorporate into the Magisk module for v1.2, thank you.
The magisk module is pushed to the watch?
@jarylc appreciate if you can help cause I am not sure I should install the above apk's. I was running Google Pay from @moneytoo here https://forum.xda-developers.com/wear-os/development/app-pay-enabler-android-pay-oreo-t3750815/page8 and it was running perfectly fine and accessibility used to open Google Pay in about 8 seconds, then suddenly and without any updates on my watch (as both play store and system auto-update is turned off) the accessibility feature stopped performing, hence I have to enable google pay manually every time. I am running Wear OS v2.6 on Oreo v8.0.0 and Pay Enabler v6 from the above link. When I uninstall Google Pay, it only gets disabled and it does not actually gets uninstalled. Appreciate if you can help.
Hello, please how to install module into phone through Magisk manager? When I open the menu and select Modules, then I click on the button to browse for modules but it says that no application can perform this action... Thank you.

I assume you are talking about the watch...
You have to download a file manager from wear playstore (not all of them work with Magisk) or you can try to flash the module through twrp, but I never tried it so I don't know for sure if it would work
Sent from my SM-T720 using XDA Labs
Can you please recommend a file manager? I tried one but no luck. I tried to flash this file through TWRP and it is not possible.

Hi. Can you give a more detailed response on how you rooted the watch and installed the apk? Thank you.
This is great, thanks.
But from time to time the Google Pay app get disabled again.
Did anyone find out what is triggering this?
Is it when the device connects directly to Wifi and google play services checks that we are on a unauthorized country?
I think of an app that can run in the background, or a contrab job, that check if the package is disabled, and enables it again.
@jarylc Did you thought on making this part of the magisk module ?
magisk-gpay-wearos-downgrade
So .. I decided to do it by myself
I created a new magisk module.
This will install the right google pay and will have a job running every 2 hours to enable the package.
In case you want, we can increase/decrease that time.
I will start testing in a daily basis and see how it goes.
Source code here: https://github.com/cinzas/magisk-gpay-wearos-downgrade
I'm also attaching the module in case you want to test it.
So by installing this it will install GPay on my watch? Should I need to root my watch first?

Hi
I have been trying since this morning. I will publish a new one to enable every hour, but this is working fine
To install this on your device you need to have Magisk installed (so yes, root is needed).
What device do you have ?

I have a ticwatch pro.
What do you mean by publish one every hour? Why do you have to do that?
From time to time (didn't find the pattern yet), google detects that the gpay app is enabled on the phone and deactivates it.
I changed the module to turn it on every 30 mins (does not consume battery), so it is always available when you need it - no need to call an app to enable it
Can anybody link me to instructions how to root my ticwatch pro 4g?
edit: nevermind, i already found it. Rooted the watch and succesfully installed this magisk module. Set up my cards and working perfectly! I'll monitor if google pay still gets disabled, but at least it starts! Very happy now. Thanks for this module, great work...
Hey. I have TicWatch Pro 2020 and I'm trying to sideload the OreoPay zip, but I get only error: Updater procces ended with ERROR : 127. Can u help?
Hello everyone! Today I make this step by step guide to explain you how to enable the next generation Google assistant on your Xiaomi Mi 9 (it may also works on another phone). This is for AOSP roms like Evolution X, Pixel Experience, Lineage OS, ... Please don't try to install it on a miui rom!
This is what you will get after this guide:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So this is how to get it:
1) Download and install Magisk Manager if you don't have already it (If you have it, go to the step 5).
2) open the Magisk Manager app, then click on the install button to download the installer zip file.
3) reboot into recovery mode, then flash the Magisk zip file. After that, reboot into system mode.
4) Open Magisk, and verify that the two checks are green.
5) Go to the Download tab, then search and install the busybox and MagiskHide props config modules. After that, reboot your phone.
6) Install a terminal emulator app like Termux.
7) Open it, type "su" then the enter key. Give it the root privileges.
For the next steps in the terminal, press the enter key after each command.
8) Type "props"
9) Type "4"
Repeat these following commands with these 5 properties associated with their value
ro.product.brand => Google
ro.product.manufacturer => Google

ro.product.vendor.model => Pixel 4 XL
10) Type "n"
11) Type the propertie (ex: ro.product.brand)
12) Type the value associated with it (ex: Google)
13) Type "y"
14) Type "n"
After these steps, you should have these properties:
15) Reboot your phone.
16) Go to the applications settings of your phone, then search for the Google app. Force stop and clear storage.
17) Open the Google, and try to launch the Google Assistant.
18) If you still have the old one, go to the more tab => Settings => Google Assistant => the assistant tab => Languages. Please make sure that you have only English (US, UK, CA, Ireland, Australia, or Singapour).
19) Download this file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NcWZY11AgbiQ9T8SBMqsXvlMDO40nylS/view
20) Download root explorer from the playstore
21) In this app vive the root access then copy the downloaded file to /data/data/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/shared_prefs
22) Select the shared_prefs folder then in the properties menu set the permissions to 551 (remove the w permissions) ans apply
23) Reboot your phone
24) Enjoy
If it doesn't work, please tell me.
I know that the images are oversized. I'll try to reduce their size.
So I followed each step and I thought it was going to work but at the last step when I open the assistant and click on start download to update it the following message appears:
"An error has occurred make sure that you are online and try again"
Do you think there is anything else I could do to make it work?

Try to install this apk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fTymlp9KaeTinK2D_UqAJUmaGwexeEz-/view, then retry to launch the assistant to force the downloading of the necessary ressources. (You may have to clear one more time the google app data).

It's strange, do you have this issue only with the next gen assistant, or also with the old one? (Add a language that doesn't support the New assistant in the languages settings)
Hey, this is bit of an old thread but I'm having issues and i dont know where to turn. I've flashed PixelExperience 11and google assistant is NOT responding to (ok|hey) google commands. I've tried different version and then eventually flashed EvolutionX (Android 11). There again, google assistant doesn't work..
Given that i use google assistant on a daily bases, i kind of need it. So i found this nice thread, tried these steps but i still don't get google assistant to respond to keyword and i haven't even achieved GA2.0 using this tutorial.
Any ideas how i can make it work?

Yeah, it doesn't work anymore sadly, it seems that Google found a way to block this feature on non pixel phones
