Hi Everyone
I bought a HTC Desire 630 dual sim model couple days back. It is to be used as my secondary phone. So far, It is been a good experience with few hiccups. Just wanted to ask you guys a few questions on the device.
1) Is it just me who feels so or is the display really not that great? It comes of as okay to me most times but I definitely see a lot of grains when browsing or navigating through play store. Any thoughts on this?
2) The device doesn't seem to have a 2G/3G/4G toggle like the way I am used to. Which one should I select if I have to restrict my device to only 2G/3G? I don't need the device to be looking for 4G and drain battery. I use my primary phone with 4G. 3G will do for this phone. So, which one should it be? 1) Global Mode 2) CDMA Mode 3) GSM/UMTS Mode.
3) I am aware of the root method for this device. But is there a S-OFF exploit available for this device?
4) Are you guys able to pull off a day in single charge? In my couple days experience, I am not able to. That's one of the primary reasons that I don't want the device to hunt for 4G and drain battery.
5) Are you guys getting stable data connectivity? I seem to face issues. The connectivity seems delayed than my other phone. It takes like a good 30 seconds to download data, is what I feel. Again, one of the reasons I want the phone to look only for 3G/2G.
Hi
The phone automatically switch 2g 3g 4 g depending on network in the global mode I didn't face any network issue.. over phone is highly optimize..for the better performance..I agree only battery issue ..but it's not a bigger Deal..

Oh Okay. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I agree global mode switches between different connections. But my guess is that it would drain more battery. I am using a 3G sim. So, after searching the internet for sometime, I figured out that I should be selecting GSM/UMTS mode. This switches between 3G/2G, serves my purpose.
You actually don't need S-off. I am rooted and was able to get rid off duplicate and bloat applications by booting into recovery and deleting them from the in-built file manager. I was also able to push applications into system using the same method. Did all the addition, removals and reset the phone by wiping data, cache and dalvik cache. Now, I have got a mean lean device that performs the way I want it to. I got to say, using HTC device is a delightful experience.
I have rooted, installed Xposed as well. Can anyone help me with good compatible modules for HTC Marshmallow phones?

Hello everyone,
I am upgrading to a Motorola Atrix 4G, but before I do the jump I wanted to see what is the real life issues with the phone.
1. How long is battery lasting? typical usage?
2. How is the GPS performing? how long it takes to lock? any issues with any apps?(google nav location jumping around, doesnt work well overseas, etc.)
3. How is the SIM unlocking situation?
4. Does it need to be rooted to remove AT&T bloatware? how good is the stock image running?
1) Better than my Nexus One by far. I have no problem going almost two days between charges.
2) GPS performs great for me. Locks are quick and accurate. This is in the USA though.
3) No idea - didn't need it.
4) You can remove everything though manage apps without needing root.
1. battery is fantastic!
2. GPS is great, locks in seconds. Google Nav works brilliantly for me. I have used it many times with no issues.
3. no unlock needed here
4. AT&T "bloatware" can be removed via Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications *no root needed!*
oh, and only issue I have is the lack of HSUPA, but it isn't enough to make me get rid of this phone. It is fantastic!

1. Battery is great for me. Last cycle was 30 hours with 5 hours screen time.
2. In the US and GPS is flawless. I'm actually impressed on how well it gets position when just using cellular/WiFi.
3. No first-hand experience, but it has been stated that unlocking is possible but causes issues with wifi and there isn't any substantial confirmations on root method and/or mods.
4. Just like everyone else has said. Just go into "Manage Applications" and select the Bloatware and they are all capable of being Uninstalled. *Note: it doesn't actually uninstall them, just removes the "shortcut" basically as they are still in the system preinstall file
great!
Thanks for the input, keep it coming! The more the merrier.
I am curious as to why sim unlocking is causing Wifi issues, I guess it would be if you sim unlock it using software, but not by code. Any extra input on this area is appreciated.
I have been using the Eris for about a year and very soon rooted it using jcase's "Universal 1 Click Eris Root App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY" method. It was wonderfully easy and it's working fine but I wondered if there has been some newer updates/upgrades that would make it a bit better. I'm presently using Kitty/pageplus as my provider and very happy with it. I had pageplus turn off the data on the phone to prevent me from accidentally using up all my funds in the account, thus I am wifi only with internet.
The things I notice most about what I'm using is:
1. The wifi will not automatically connect sometimes to work wifi or local hotspot such as Books-a-Million. I have to turn off wifi and then turn it back on, which will cause it to then connect.
2. The touch screen is not as responsive as I would like. Sometimes I have to touch something 2 or 3 times to get it to "take".
3. Camera is very slow to take photos once I "click" or touch and hold the screen. I think I could speed up the photo recording process after the camera "clicks" by installing a faster mini-sd card. It's 8 gig, but 4x. It's just that the initial focusing/taking of the photo that is slow.
4. Wifi is quite slow to upload from bookmarks and general internet browsing. This might be processor speed. It's at 715Mhz at present, which was jcase's recommendations at the time. I'm seeing about 10-20 seconds upload most of the time.
5. I have a screen protector on. Could this cause a less sensitive touch screen?
6. I always have to try a bookmarked title twice. The first time it acts like it's going to do something but then goes back to the "bookmarks" page.
I await your advise/reccommendations...

So are you looking for help to fix these issues or suggestions for a newer device?
I would agree with jaymax on the nexus prime for an upgrade but if you want to try to remedy those problems, I would also concur with crimson and suggest to try out workshed's GSB ROM. It's super speedy and his latest build leaves me with no issues to discern.
Worksheds gsb rom or condemned souls rom has always worked well for me. At the very least flash xtrsense.
Also regarding the camera speed issue that could be the autofocus. If you wanted to try it, there's a free app in the market to speed up sd cards that I've found useful and it may help you.
Sent from my ERIS-ADR6200 using XDA App
GSB is the best choice so far, kept me from throwing the phone out the window
To OP's comment - being on PPC - about Wi-Fi, have you try changing your Advanced settings (turn on Wi-Fi settings, tap the "menu" key - you will see "Scan" & "Advanced" - 2nd. tab down is Wi-Fi sleep policy - and by default, it will turn-off or "sleep" when the screen turns off (which can be as fast as 30 or 60 secs depending on your settings with inactivity, etc.)
Try changing it to "Never" and see whether it will make a difference - and if so, you might want to leave it on Never when plugged in - this setting will use & drain battery faster. Typically, however, the device should reconnect with your preferred APN automatically once "awake" but ....
Being still on VZW with the grandfathered unlimited data plan, I would endorse CS's V18 Vanilla Rom (and, I've tried & flashed many of the other Roms, including GSB) as I've been using it since this May and the latest build is just awesome, stable with good battery life & running Google Maps 5.2 on it.
Both our FS lines are now eligible for upgrade & 4 months from going out of contract on the primary line, so I've been debating seriously of whether to renew or switch to the other bad guy, AT&T Mobility - which gets a solid 3G/4G signal at our home vs. only a marginal CDMA signal.
Going out of town for 10 days next week & being on the road, I've decided not to rush to rule out a free upgrade option if I renew/extended - the HTC Incredible 2 for free via Circuit City/TigerDirect/Comp USA online (or WireFly), as the best VZW could do directly online is $119.99 (new 2 year contract price is $149.99 this week) and I keep my unlimited data plan. With a bigger 4" screen & global option for travel (will unlock it & use own Sims, of course) - reviews have been favorable & seemed solid vs. others - of course, it will be EOL in probably 6 to 9 months (nothing new ....)
I have two identical Rezounds, both setup using the great Reventech's Guide to How to Downgrade, Factory Restore and Fully Upgrade the Rezound. So, both are S-OFF and running the Factory ROM now.
However, each phone performs way differently and I can't figure out why. The phones have way different battery life, and way different LTE data performance. I'm using GSAM Battery Monitor to measure battery life, and Speedtest application to monitor throughput.
Phone 1:
This phone has decent battery life (I get about 24 hours of battery life in standby), but it has very low data transfer rates in LTE.

Phone 2:
This phone has terrible battery life (drains battery in standby in about 4 hours) but has decent LTE transfer speeds.

I am sure it's not a battery or antenna problem (I've swapped the batteries around and the back covers). I've tried loading different ROM's (Carbon, Tachyon, LiquidSmooth) and the problems seem to be the same.
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong???:crying:

im on latest hboot 2.28 with the 2.23 radios found in my upgrade guide....on my beta kernel build and my beta gsm only 4.4 build....those have nothing to do with overheating...another thing that can cause overheat is using stuff like kernal tuner or overclocing your kernal....from what i hear dsb runs great but sucks alot of power
Edit...what i suggest for anyone is funky kernel and an older 4.3 rom for now...for example i had good luck with pac-man and carbon from late september to early october releases which can still be found....

Well, I did both phones all the way from the downgrade upgrade guide exactly as you documented, so kind of think I've got something else going on.
Thanks for the dialer tip, went through that and did confirm phone 1 is on the lte/gsm/cdam auto (prl). Still have the low data rate so no joy.
When I boot to HBOOT, both phones show the following:
HBOOT 2.28.0000
RADIO 2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.104r
OpenDSP-V14.6.0.7708.00.0507
I hope that means I've got all the updates, right?
Thanks!

yes it does....on the low data one try switching to a different one...toggle airplane mode afterwards for 10 seconds and turn it back on....you may have better luck...also what conditions are the 2 seperate back covers...a pin may not be touching it properly...
Edit: Also just curious...what rom and kenel do you have em on....some roms do act funky and overheat under certain settings or performance set a certain way or even a setting in developer options

Sorry to be dense, but what should I switch to and how, please. Sorry to be a dummy, but I don't quite understand the difference between the RUU's that I ran, and the PH98IMG's that I flashed as part of your procedure.
The back covers are both fine. I did suspect the receive level of one of the phones, but what I discovered was the 4G signal levels are apparently different from the 3G signal levels. Both phones show a signal level of about -91dbm, no matter which cover I have on, so I kind of dismissed signal levels as a problem. Swapping the covers from phone to phone does not solve the data rate issue.

The problems existed with the phones without changing rom and kernel. Just running right after I went through the procedure.
After checking that the stock one I loaded was having the problem, I've now loaded phone 1 with Carbon 20131113 that has [email protected] kernel version 3.0.101-gb2c73c5. Same problem....

Thanks Reventech, I loaded Carbon 4.3 from October 2, same issues. Tried Pac Man 4.3, same thing. I think it is some kind of radio issue, and did set it to lte/cdma auto only, same issue. It looks like it default connects to CDMA. If I set to LTE only, I get worse problems.
One observation, if I choose LTE, the signal level is worse than CDMA. Is there a reason that choosing a different modulation causes a worse signal level?
Anyhow, any more suggestions before I throw the phone out the window?

On second thought, I moved the SIM into my other Rezound (the one that eats the battery extremely fast), and LTE data rate is superb, so I don't think its the SIM.
Maybe I can fix this phone so it does not drain the battery as fast. Any idea? This one is running straight from your Downgrade/Upgrade procedure with no other ROM installed.
Thanks again,

thats my only suggestion as that what has fixed overheating for me and a few others....i think its cause of the motherboard as first mentioned originally....my ht1 motherboard rez would get insanely hot....where as my fa2 motherboard rezound is superb.....i cant think of what else would cause crappy signal exect for hardware related....ie pins on back of phone that touch back cover is faulty or sim slot is dirty

I thank you for your help as always. Guess I have two bad motherboards, one that drains batteries, one that can't get a decent data rate. I've spent far too much of your time (and way too much of mine) on this project. Will have to bite the bullet and buy a new phone.

Recently found my old Amaze . Unlocked bootloader again and rooted as it was already S-OFF it it makes a difference. Wanting to turn it into a music/wifi only device.
Has anyone else done this and maintained decent battery life?
Haven't been on this sub for a good while, but do recognize some of the development still going on for this device. Trying to find a stable ROM that is small in size with not a lot of extra bloat that has good battery life to use the Amaze for music/wifi.
Any suggestions or experience with? Or any configuration ideas welcome.
Thanks

I say install any rom you like then install poweramp your good to go
what i mean by this ?
1st ... ICS roms are very stable great battery life also
2nd ... ICS roms can use wifi to make wifi calling if your into that
3rd ... Or download the newest rom and see how that works
4th .... Trade in you amaze for a ipad touch
After tinkering with phone for almost two weeks(not constantly), I keep running into the same problem on different ROMs. Phone Radio and/or any other phone service related program/app keeps draining the battery rather quickly. Even if i have Airplane mode on or have everything turned off(including WiFi) and let it just idle, it still is the top apps/services eating away at the battery.
I have even tried freezing/uninstalling all phone related apps, but with no prevail. Also Used the *#*#4636#*#* to go into the phone settings and turn radio off, it still will be at the top of the list on using the most battery. I have most Google account syncs turned off and even have disabled location.
Is there something I am missing or?
Hello,
I've noticed a strange thing, that the more my battery discharges (starts at around 75% battery) the more unstable my network signal gets, and i start losing network data. at 100% battery 4g network and signal is quite good, in speedtests i get ~30mbps download and upload speeds. and at around 30% battery and below, i start having only 3g data or even 2g data and those are unstable, i get no connection and cant call/receive calls.
My problem is similair to other problems posted on this forum, but no clear solution was offered. Also, there was mention of this kind of problem on xda and some german forum when battery voltage is below 4.0 v network signal gets unstable
What i have tried:
- Flashed alternate modem files 466d, s26 , 18s etc. (almost all of them),
- tried a lot of different roms, small eui, stock 26s, stock 18s, small7 nougat, lineage os, remix 6.0, aicp etc.... ressurection remix, nougat, by andr68rus, it has 416d modem. I had best results with this rom so far, but quite not there yet (maybe it's because of custom kernel)
- Entered *#*#4636#*#* switched and set band to automatic, american, japan, pcs (all of them ) . no difference
- renewed APN settings. No difference.
-Entered APn settings mannualy
- fastboot erased modemst1/2 - no difference
- tried unlock and locking bands in QTOOL in diagnostic mode (maybe i did something wrong? but i doubt it)
-I have no case on phone, or other materials that could interfere with signal
currently on latest build AOSIP rom by moto9999999
Should i provide somekind additional logs? Please help a bro out i like the le max 2 very much, but the data and signal problems are driving me mad.....
Hey, it sounds like we have the same problem. I have to frequently charge my phone when the battery level goes down to around 70% in order for voice and data continue to work.
Maybe someone with stable network data and signal could tell me what is your battery voltage on different battery charge states? (100% , 75, and maybe 30%)
Using ampere app my battery voltage when 100% is 4.2-4.3V , 75% - 4.0-4.1V and 50% 3.9-4.0 V (this is where network data gets completely unusable)
Well, googled a bit, seems like this is normal behaviour fully charged battery with 4.2V seems to be normal and desireable, and 3V at low battery is normal. So i guess tinkering with the voltages won't save us
here is a catlog with modem filter. Maybe this causes the problem?
it looks like the battery can't get modem info, so it bugs wakelock, and keeps shutting down modem? What command shuts down mobile data, or restricts from going to 4g? when i try to reconnect log says action_any_data_connection_state
Ive tried to spoof battery parameters via terminal command dumpsys battery set status, to cap the status at current state. Unfortunately it didn't work ?
So i guess this is a hardware issue. Im hesitant to change the battery because its so much hassle to open the phone ?
Please share your ideas bros...
It does not make sense to me it's the battery issue. All functions I need work including WiFi that gives me very good connectivity even at 5% battery level (without the charger connected, of course).
Use the paid version of LTE Discovery : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery its 2 bucks and worth 10 times that amount.
I also tried everything when testing Miui v9 roms and It was widely acknowledged that there is a miui bug when installed on Leeco devices. LTE discovery sorted that issue and it's now my go to program whenever I flash a new rom. ( I haven't researched the specifics of what it does, but it works.)

I doubt it will help. Did you have the same issue as described?
Out of curiosity I bought and installed LTE Discovery. It has the “restart cell radio” function that resets the data connection and you can set loop it e.g. reset the radio every 30 secs.
Short story, it doesn’t help at all.
