Hi,
I found a CM 12.1 ROM for my Galaxy Exhibit II 4G (SGH-T679) over on this thread, but the ROM is listed as OS2SD.
I searched online but could find no mention of what OS2SD is.
The creator of the ROM posted this in the thread:
Notes for OS2SD:
Before you start: I cannot stress enough cwm backups/restoring will not work with this OS2SD release! And data MUST be formated NOT Optional!
1. You MUST Backup All data or it WILL be lost!
2. You MUST Format /system, /data, /cache, and /sdcard0 in cwm/twrp.
At this point you can format sdcard0 as ext4.
3. Install the new CWM/TWRP the old one will not work from now on!
If you didnt before now would also be a good time to format the internal storage which in the new recovery is now /data to ext4.
4. Once formated first flash the OS2SD rom
5. Then flash GAPPS and/or other packages.
At this point you can restore data. Note the kernel is special so you cant use older ones so you can only restore things like /data backups and adb/titanium backups.
6. Then reboot and enjoy the extra space!

Does this mean that my CWM backups will not work? (They are stored on my SD card)
Also, does it mean I have to get a new recovery?
Thanks!

From what i could understand from searching around OS2SD is OS to SDcard, it requires the SDcard to be partitioned with some tool, and make it as internal storage where you can install the rom on it and gapps and kernel and recovery, anyway, i suggest you ask there in Q&A thread of your phone as well, you will get a faster and a better answer than mine of course..good luck

Hi xda,
I'm not a typical android user and this was one of my firsts in messing around with my Tab 10.1. I have GTP7500 which I recently loaded up with CM10 and it's working fine except for the camera. Leave that and what I was going to say is that I'd like to remove my entire Internal Storage ( all the downloads, music, videos ) and stuff, i.e, like formatting the sd card. I'd like to know a way to format the internal storage of my Tab without affecting the system files as I don't want to create any troubles here. So, my questions are:-
1. Whether I can delete all the stuff shown inside the internal storage from my PC directly and would it affect the system? I cannot see any format option when I connect my tab to my PC so, I was hoping if I could manually delete all the files inside the storage and then doing a factory reset from cwm and installing the rom once again?
2. Or is there any app to do this?
3. Or if it is quite simple to do it the hard way, well, entering the fastboot and wiping the whole system (Read it somewhere before) and installing all the stuff again, then please do tell me that too. Otherwise, I'd go with the easy method, i.e, just format the internal storage.
Also, what about the format /sdcard option in the mounts and storages menu in CWM? I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4.
I think doing the "format /sdcard" in CWM should do what you are looking for as I have done that in the past. I would also temporarily back up the /sdcard contents onto your computer as a precaution in case an app was depending on any folders there, but I think it should be fine.
Thanks but still...

Thanks for the quick reply. But would it remove other stuff including the boot files and other core files of Android? I've somewhere seen similar posts and whom did the format /sdcard but they proclaimed they lost whole files and had to do bootloader and install cwm and other stuff all over again to gain access. I've already managed to do format the sd card while installing the ICS official ROM for my tab but I did that via Samsung's recovery menu, i.e, one you get when installing their official ROMs and did a factory reset which erased all my internal storage files. But the same option won't remove internal storage in cwm. So, is format /sdcard the option to do this? I'd be glad to get a clear answer.

Yep, format sdcard in CWM. It will only wipe the data stored there. Your bootloaders and ROM will remain unaffected, however I would still backup the sdcard to your computer before doing this just in case.

I was wondering about this, too. Thanks for helping!

The method above does work. However, if you really want to wipe the whole device completely clean, using Odin to flash stock firmware will blow it all out and make you factory-fresh in one operation.
hi,
currently i have CWM 6.0.1.2 installed on SD, when doing SD recovery, the rom goes always to SDCard, not to emmc, same about gapps.
i am trying to flash CM10.1 ROM from kuzma30 to emmc but it always goes to SD.
i am going in circles, read lots of threads and cannot cover a basic question: what is the deciding factor if rom is installed into sdcard or into emmc? is it rom dependent and I need to get an emmc enabled ROM or can I flash any ROM to emmc?
can I flash emmc with CWM sd recovery? do I need certain version or any (latest) version will do?
Little explanation would help a lot.
The location where the ROM and gapps get installed is specified in the updater-script in folder META-INF\com\google\android\ of the respective zip archives -- assuming that you have the correct (i.e., for SD) version of CWM recovery (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35669871&postcount=1 for more details (the installation process is the same, just swap in your choice of 10.1 ROM and gapps)).
i've seen the post and did exactly the procedure, however, the rom got installed into sd card.
now according to you I need to have a emmc enabled ROM, I tried this one:
cm-10.1-20130110-acclaim-HD-SDC.zip
which is SDCard ROM, I suppose.
so it cannot be flashed to emmc, right?
do I need to look for a rom which has no "SDC" in the name?

Yes, you need the ROM and Gapps zip files identified on this Succulent blogpost http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/cm10-1-jellybean-android-4-2-1-for-nook-tablet-1221/
Hi.
In the following topic, regarding Android Revolution HD 30.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38495361&postcount=13120
it mentions that a full format of system, preload and internal SD is required.
What would be left on my device afterwards? would the recovery still be installed in order to flash the new ROM ?
I understand that 4.2.1 leak doesn't contain any modem, would I have to install a modem afterwards?
Thanks.

Your recovery will be intact, what you do need to do is backup your internal sd to external and/or pc, and make sure the Rom you want to flash is on your external sd!
As a foot note....I personally find this good practise, to do, at least once in a while as sd rubbish can cause problems, and I always format system before a Rom change, irrespective of what I'm changing to/from

Thanks.
Should I remove my external SD while doing all this format things, and put it back just for the installation?
What about the Modem? would I have to install a modem seperately?
I never do, just make sure in recovery you select the right sd to format, nandroid and titanium backup also, as always

what about the modem issue? would I have to install it seperately?
Thanks again.
I do believe modem is either a separate partition or always comes in a Rom, but regardless, flashing a modem takes 30 seconds so it's not a problem
I was about to upgrade to the 10.1.3 stable (from 10.1 stable) of cm when i strumbled across several gigs of old files, app date, media and backups from my old n long gone cm9 install (under /data/media).
clearly all the wipes i performed since cm9 did not remove any of these files which include old apps i'd installed but havent used since cm-10.
Is there a way to do a complete wipe and get rid of all this excess garbage I have no more use for?

Wipe the internal sd, don't forget to backup your files before.

Because a factory reset keeps the /data/media folder untouched, to be able to wipe, without losing the files from your internal sd, that's why i suggested a wipe of the internal sd, not a factory reset.

I've never done this before so please bear with me.
Is there anything specific I need to do before I wipe the internal sd? I've backed up the cwm zips that i need and the efs folder. anything else to keep me from bricking my phone?
A link to a guide of some kind would be very helpful.
1. backup efs and cwm backups to extsd
2. remove extsd
3. boot into cwm recovery, wipe internal sd
4. insert extsd and flash cyanogen 10.1.3 and gapps from it using cwm recovery.
does this sum it up or am i missing something?
Sorted it out:
1. backup to extsd
2. download & copy megawipe to extsd
3. copy roms & gapps to extsd
4. boot into cwm recovery. install megawipe from extsd. DO NOT RESTART.
5. install rom & gapps from extsd and reboot.
For anyone else reading this, please read general > sticky roll-up thread > flashed 4.2? Can't find /sdcard data?

Hello everyone,
So im not new to teh whole custom rom scene and whatnot, I had a galaxy Nexus which i raped with ROM Installs .
Anyway I got a new phone, and wanted to install a custom rom on it
However It is required to wipe the phone before installing and the thing is I have alot of valuable pictures on this phone. Now I know i could back them up to the computer, however when I switched from the nexus to the new phone, i backed them up to the computer and then put them on the new phone, some pictures the order got messed up. Like the first picture wasn't the firs tpicture anymore etc..
Also on my Galaxy nexus when I wiped it, my images did not get deleted, they were still there, does wiping not delete all of this?
(Im talking about wiping from Recovery

Most custom recoveries are made to not wipe /data/media (also known as internal storage or what the phone recognizes as /sdcard) unless told to when you go to wipe to install a rom. This can vary by phone/recovery/rom/etc but as a general rule, that's how it works.

Well you can't install CM without a custom recovery. Just make sure it isn't set to wipe the internal storage and all will be fine. You might have to move your stuff into the /sdcard/0 folder after CM is installed if it doesn't do it automatically and you don't see the stuff from internal storage after you get into CM.
