so I've got my hands on a touchpad but am unsure which rom to install
i'm not to concerned about bleeding edge, I just want a ROM that's fast / stable and fairly recent
any suggestions would be really appreciated !
I've heard a lot of people really like the CM11 4.4.4 ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680
I've been using Evervolv 7.1.1, and I really like it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/development/rom-evervolv-7-0-0p1-wifi-t3456292/page100

I haven't used the 4.4.4 build, so I can't comment on it's speed. A lot of people regard it as the most stable, how.
As I said, I use 7.1.1 Evervolv. I've had versions of Evervolv that have been laggy/slow in the past, but it is very snappy/usable.
CM11 is the Best rom for stability

Get CM11 android 4.4.4 if you want stability. Yes the Evervolv rom lags or hangs sometimes. I'm still having issues with the screen becoming unresponsive people are calling it lag. I have to be careful playing Clash of clans on it cause the screen has frozen up on me several times during clan wars. The latest roms always have the most bugs to sort out.

I've found evervolv to be way too laggy with to many black screens.
Cm11 is way more stable but is also not smooth, I'd love to speed it up even more if possible, read something about f2fs but it's probably not doable with j this rom?
The way some people go on about a rom, you'd think the rom eliminated lag completely

Hi guys I have'nt found much information on this forum regarding the intermittent lag/crashes on G2s that I'm experiencing (d802 version specifically) running kitkat aosp ROMs so I thought I might report my experience to see if I'm not alone here.
After I upgraded from CM 10.2 to CM11 my device would start lagging at random times during the day followed itevitably by a crash mostly after about 3 minutes of use (messaging, browsing, youtubing etc) where the screen would freeze and go black (and eventually come back.)
A reboot was always necessary which resolved the problem temporarily. These crashes happened between 1-3 times per day and were extremely frustrating.
The device in question is a d802 running CM11 and stock kernel.
They happened after fresh installs, even with only system apps. I tried flashing a custom kernel, playing with different settings and switching to other kitkat ROMs with little to no change.
I finally bit the bullet and switched back to CM10.2 stable and all is well with my phone now. I couldn't make the phone lag if I tried, its back to its beasty glory.
This device clearly must have an issue with Aosp ROMs on kitkat (or maybe I just picked a bad one) and its a real shame. If anyone has the same problem please share your experiences and maybe we can get to the bottom of this thing

yep stock is better than cm11 or any aosp roms. aeonflex was a really good rom so was cloudy flex. they are flex based
CM11 has always been buggy for me. Try running a different 4.4 ROM,
Nameless is running perfectly for me

Pretty surprising that all the big players like cm or aokp would be the buggiest. At least there's other options for an upgrade

I'm using omni. Without any issues at all. No freezes or anything like that.
Tried PA and CM11, both really buggy, just like the op described. Flashed cm10.2 but it just doesnt work with my fitbit so now ive gone back to stock. While stock is good, it just feels so sow compared to asop based roms.
If you want a AOSP rom really hard, try "Mahdi" rom.. i tried it for a day and it fits perfectly for me
But now i'm on stock rom (CloudyStock) because... it's awesome and i like the LG UI
Using Mahdi combined with the furnace kernel, no slowdowns and very rarely do I get random reboots. Highly suggested :good:
I have these freezes several times a day too. I noticed one time that my systemui stopped working with it
my guess: maybe it has something to do with the systemui?
CM11 ran great for me on my D801, but I just couldn't deal with the in call echo issue.

blame closed source drivers. the devs making these customs pull hattricks so you can have a custom rom. All without documentation and such, thats why they can be buggy.

Is the speed really noticeable?
Or
Is it worth it to upgrade just because of this speed factor?

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I'm currently using the latest carbon ROM nightly and its running like clockwork. Will update if anything changes though.
But its definitely worth experimenting with other ROMs.
Does anyone else using i9300 face the same problem? I tried various kitkat custom roms (PA, CM, liquid smooth, etc...) and they were all laggy and problematic. They all had video playback issues, game lags and "unfortunately, com.android.systemui has stopped" kept popping up. I decided to flash CM 10.2 jelly bean and everything works pretty much flawlessly. However I've seen many posts of i9300 users giving good reviews on kitkat custom roms
CM11 had many bugs, but the actual snapshot promises to correct some of them...
I run Qaraqumus' QS-4.4.2-rom at this moment and find no bugs after 1d. The problem with S3 is the various hardware: so has a part of the users f.e. always problems with camera, and other people none. You will have to try...

Did you make sure you did a proper clean install before flashing the new next rom?
No custom rom is problem free but in saying that 90% of the people who use them don't have or only have minimal issues.
YES ! I have the same feeling that users give good rating for kitkat roms on s3 while they are actualy unusable for daily use - freezing crashing reboots bugs . I am back on stock 4.3 - with nobloat app to disable some bloatware .
i9300 + slimkat stable 8 + boeflla kernel = awesome performance + no FC + no crash
I have to agree with him although i use temasek unofficial cm11 with boeffla latest ng kernel and don't have restarts, crashes etc its solid as, on 2 of my phones.
Don't use xposed it creates more issues than it solves.
Also talking to someone like that is rude and i have half a mind to report it to the mods, do you honestly think you can tell someone there experience is wrong? 90% of users have no problems. Go troll somewhere else.
If you really want to no go try it yourself its not hard to create a nandroid and test as everyones experience will be different.

Try ArchiDroid 2.5.3 from @JustArchi
Got that one and it works pretty nice
I've run kitkat ever since i rooted quite a few months ago and well yes none are 'perfect' because there no real such thing as perfect. There's always been issues, but none have really bothered me except the system.ui crashing when i open my recents on PA 4.6 beta 3, but since the update it's been fine
Don't feed the troll, it only encourages them.
try neat ROM...never had any prob...if there is..then there's something wrong with your way...or your device
Not sure what you're talking about, I have been using for example PA since June, no issues, doesnt lag, all games work without fcs and are smooth etc etc ,might be you messing up installation or forgetting to wipe something
Why are you people trying to help, or even bothering to acknowledge, a troll. Ignore him, offensive idiots go straight into my ignore list.
What about camera quality? I want to install a KK ROM on my S3, but I don't to lose the camera quality.
I'm using ArchiDroid 2.5.3 (JB) at the moment.

Sorry but what did I miss out?
A ranting troll who hijacked your thread and abused anyone who had views different to his own.
Most of his posts got deleted or edited, the comments weren't aimed at you.
I just bought a brand new HTC One X+ a few days ago for a really good price on eBay. Immediately after receiving it, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, flashed CWM and installed the latest CyanogenMod 11 snapshot. To my surprise, the device lags and sometimes freezes for minutes in completely simple tasks like pulling down notifications or typing on the keyboard. I've tried a lot of stuff, but nothing has worked so far.
I'm convinced this can't be a problem with the phone, the specs are too good for it to lag in such simple things. I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S III with a CM11 nightly and that didn't have any lag even though the specs were technically lower. Also, another problem I'm experiencing is that the screen "blinks", as in it has a sort of stutter effect which is really annoying. I don't know whether this has to do with CM or with the phone itself, but the blinking problem doesn't happen in recovery or fastboot mode.
Is there anyone who can help me figure out why this is happening? Thanks.
Is there anyone who can help me? I need my phone to be functional as soon as possible, thanks

Flash Nik3r's kernel. You will find it in the android development section.
Also running a huge amount of apps will screw with the device, and a reboot now and again doesn't hurt

Thanks so much for the suggestion, I will try it out. Also, really nice job with that Pure AOSP 4.3 ROM. I've been trying it and it's really smooth and fast.

Use EliteKernel, it will be much more faster. For me the stock CM kernel is troublesome, phone lags, battery drains, and heat up the phone quite much.

I know just add some opinions
these few months I've been trying a couple of roms on my old moto e and I got to say that they're great but none is perfect:
cyanogenmod worked near perfect BUT had random reboots.. and that was really annoying, Now I'm on Orion and i'm really happy with it but has several major bugs like the camera (at least I don't get random reboots)
So I'd like to know if there is a rom that works fine without major problems, I don't care about what android version it may have.
I care about performance over appearence.
any suggestions?

Try maxicm

This ROM might be free from any major bugs, also you won't face any Annoying random reboots.
You can say it's perfect.
Cheers!

thank you
the main reason for me to try other roms in the first place was the poor performance and the heavy usage of storage on the Stock one.. so I think I would come back to it only if I don't find anything better.
I have tried kitkat, lollipop and marshmallow... and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that lollipop had the worst performance.. and marshmallow the best between those 3.
Hey guys, so i've been seeing ALOT of new 7.x roms coming out this week, and this is really confusing me, there are so many options right now im just completely unable to choose one.
Im currently running with Ashwin's 7.0 Rom but i am always looking for new options.
Any one who has any idea which ones are worth looking into? Most of them all seem good.

Tesla!
Tesla-N, Beanstock, Xenon, AOISP, Aosp.. Both CM14 ROMs need a lot of work still.
I have to agree with the two above.
GZR's Tesla-N!
Tesla has nougat rom? I only find Tesla mm rom.
Omicron Technics
Thanks for the info guys, anyone know if any of these can be dirty flashed over my existing ROM?

Always do a clean flash if you are using a different rom.

All of them can be dirty flashed required that you have the right bootloader.
Dirty flashed being that your flashing the same ROM that's currently installed without wiping. Sometimes good for updating but clean flash is always suggested.
I've tried Tesla N but I usually get System UI stopped. Now I'm using XenonHD and it's working fine, only torch tile in quick setting is not working, and camera takes 10 seconds to start after restart (2 second the next times).
I tried 3 different ones from local devs, the best one, fully workable and ready to use is XenonHD. Thanks to it's dev!
XenonHD for me its more stable then cm14
Just a quick update y'all; im currently running Dirty Unicorns (there was a new version yesterday, 20.11.2016) and it is working flawlessly so far. Thanks for the help though!

For me, XenonHD doesn't work well. It lags quite a lot. Like the frame drops are significant. Maybe it's at like 10 or 8 fps on XenonHD. But I have had no problems with TeslaN 3.1. Except for the fact that it is a bit laggy, like whole switching from one app to another, it takes quite a lot of time

Nougat is still in it's infant stages also seems like majority of people looking for battery over performance. Look into Kernal Auditor helps adjusting for your liking. Custom kernels like Heliox, Arsenic and Black reactor might give you even more options for tuning. I found all of the Nougat ROMs to be quite good considering we don't have official support.
