Bought the phone preorder on the 17th and it came in on the 30th. So far I love this phone. Coming from the 6P its not renewed my interest in Android phones after not caring about upgrading for a year or two. Phone feels great in hand, runs smooth, looks awesome, and battery life impresses me. No complaints. Went to Best Buy to try out the S8 since Im still in the 14 day return period and decided to keep the G6.
Easily the best phone on the market. I keep the same phones for years, last phone being an LG-G2. This is the first phone that I was willing to upgrade to. Only thing I need now is ROOT so I can have my backup LG-G6 and this one synced exactly and just swap if any issues occur. NANDROID backups are crucial to me, so it's the only thing I feel I need at this point.
Just picked mine up from Verizon yesterday. First time with an LG Phone. It's alright so far- my older phone (nexus 5X) had the power button above the volume, and i'm pretty used to that. So that's an adjustment. But overall, I think that it's very nice. Fast, and feels durable. No major complaints.

I was going to say the same thing but didnt want a negative perception of the G6. My girlfriend got her 5X when I got my 6P and that 5X didn't hold up well at all.
I came from 6p > one plus 3t > g6.

I was an iPhone user. This phone grabbed my attention and I really like it so far.
I came from a Galaxy S7 which specs wise wasn't much of an upgrade.. Though, this phone runs circles around my Snapdragon S7 and doesn't seem to show any hint of slowing down.
I just picked this up today and I'm coming from a Nexus 6.
I have to say that this phone is making me sad. It's smaller than my beautiful giant and I just discovered that in the Google Play Music App there is no equalizer so my $200 Sony Bluetooth headphones sound like **** when casting from this phone. I ask for so little from a phone but for a manufacturer to kneecap an app that I use all of the time is making me want to return this thing. I honestly think I'd rather suffer with my 2+ year old beast with it's battery that is fading than use a phone that is making me cringe.
The zippiness of the processor and the 1 GB extra of memory doesn't seem to be enough to make me embrace this phone. I so wanted to like it.
There are apps for EQ. I used to use some on my G2 and they worked well.
I love this phone. Went up from an LG G3, which I also loved. This new phone is a work horse and charges lightening fast! I was not too happy about them making the battery permanent and only offering a 32GB model. But the fact that it's waterproof was something I was willing to give up (not being able to exchange the battery feature). To get over the 32GB drawback, I purchased a 256GB micro sd card for my phone, then used the tool to split the memory between the internal and SD card ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/auto-formatting-sdcard-to-internal-t3583875 ). The screen is awesome and the performance is so smooth. I do miss having root but the features this phone offers almost gives me every option I had with root on my LG G3. The fact that Sprint offered this phone at 50% off, allows me to pay in payments without interest, and finally they give me a Google Home unit for free made this purchase a no brainer.

I am surprised that you didn't looked at the specs and do a side-by-side comparison before purchasing it.

I am ready to upgrade my G3 but am surprised that Verizon hasn't offered any discount on the G6 yet. I can wait until they offer the $10 a month deal like they did on the iphones last year.
Coming from the Note 5 the LG6 transition has been such a smooth experience. Most of the bloatware can be deleted in 2 minutes and the other frozen so really have no gripe about not having root. Battery life is excellent and aod works well. Never have been a fan of led notifications as for the ir for tv never used that so don't miss it. The software experience from lg is fluid and lag free and have come along way from the lg flex/flex2 I owned in the past. I installed a 128g micro Sd card and loaded my music ,movies and pictures on it so not having 64g to start is not a big deal. Being a camera fan this has been a joy to use and shoot. I mainly use manual mode and the macro shooting is incredible. Night shooting I use a tripod and have been able to take some amazing shots. Everyone talks about the premium feel and this phone has it. Fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate and placement is perfect.
The Lg G6 just feels right in the hand with the weight and thickness being just right. I am using the Spigen Neo case and is still smaller than my note 5 with no case. The only downside with the G6 is the headphone jack output could be a little louder. I am sure this phone will only get better with future updates and overall this is an amazing phone. I noticed you moved from a Note 5 to the G6- could you comment on how your experience was with moving from AMOLED to LCD on this phone? I'm going to replace my Note 4 soon (i still love that phone) and haven't ever used LCD. I was really tempted by the LG V20- still chewing on maybe doing that instead. Thanks!
Oled has better blacks but G6 is respectable and the G6 looks better on everything else It all a matter of preference. Was at Best Buy today and played again with the S8 and in no way felt the S8 was better. G6 was more fluid and the screen whites just seal the deal. The note 5 I had needed root to get a better phone experience on the other hand LG has done it right out of the box and is a pleasure to use. Root is not needed to enjoy the G6.
Another note holding the S8 it just feels cheap where the G6 feels like money well spent. I purchased mine off Ebay new in box for 450.00. I consider it a steal at tjat price.
When I first got the LG G6 I wasn't terribly happy with it at first considering they removed one of my favorite features the IR blaster, and a few other things but I realize I guess I was more or less avoiding change. Now that I warmed up to the phone and also compared it to the S8 I'm definitely glad I stuck with LG. My battery life is definitely Superior to most of the phones I've had in the past I'm able to get almost a full day out of it was very heavy use and most of my features like location and Bluetooth on. As far as the design of the phone it is definitely a sturdy and sleek-looking phone. I do have issues with the Bluetooth app force closing a lot and I don't enjoy having the volume buttons on the side again. I keep turning off my screen when I instinctively go to turn up the volume. But with that being said the S8 does not have the remote feature on it and the speaker location is in the exact same spot meaning I'll cover it with my phone sideways on either phones. I did get a case and that has helped. Another thing that I like about the LG G6 is the location for the power and fingerprint reader is place in a very good spot and feels natural when turning it on and off. I can't wait for a route to come for custom kernels and ROMs but if it's anything like the G4 that may or may not ever happen. I've had the LG G3 G4 and now the G6 and I can definitely say I'm glad I'm sticking with LG and I feel some of my first reviews on it work bias based off of me wanting it to be like my old phone.
Great phone, snappy, all the features I really want, and no gimmicky curved screen. Side by side with the S8, this is the winner. Always had samsungs notes 2,3,4,5,(rip7)- and thought I was scared of LCD for no reason.

This is personally the best phone I've ever owned. When I got my taxes back, I considered picking up the Nexus 6 but when the time came I decided I couldn't abandon this baby. I put all my faith in LG and took the plunge on the G2 and man, I'm glad I did! LG customer for life!
Right there with you, I adore this phone. It does everything I could possibly want with a smartphone, I can hammer away at it all day and the battery holds up, and most importantly it's enjoyable to use. I only realized after I got my G3 how much my old phone annoyed me and how I'd made excuses for all the dumb things it did... night and day aren't different enough to describe the transition!
I love LG's UI and the knock knock feature. They've absolutely redeemed themselves.
I love how the screen size is 5.5", yet smaller than phones with even smaller screens thanks to the incredibly small bezels. The only thing I don't really care for is the quality of the display. QHD is just not needed, it kills the battery when using the screen and hurts performance a tad, I'd be perfectly happy with 1080p. The colors are also muted and off, causing most photos to look more depressing than other phones unless you always use 100% brightness.
This is by far the best Android phone I've had yet. Awesome performance, great battery life, just overall, excellent quality. Would purchase it again if I had to do it all over.

This is my 6th Android phone and aside from my Droid RAZR HD (which I was able to actually unlock the bootloader before they patched the exploit), this is the best phone yet. Aside from the fact that the bootloader was unlocked (which guaranteed I'd have root forever), the G3's performance and stability out of the box is bar none the best I've seen yet from an Android phone.

G3 is a good phone the feel and exterior look of the phone are awesome. The one thing I didnt like was the stock G3 development. There are plenty of Lollipop AOSP roms.
I had a verizon rep tried to talk me into waiting for the iPhone 6, LOL. I ended up selling my buddy my G2 for $150. It was in perfect condition and he ended up falling in love with LG too. If it weren't for LG, I'd probably be a Note 4 or Nexus 6 user right now. Both of which I'd probably be happy with but the G3 is my baby. And I agree with the guy who made the comment about the screen size being big and the phone being smaller than others with the same screen size. I can one hand this device. Whenever I pick up my mother's Note 2, I feel like I'm holding a brick compared to this phone.
I truly enjoy this phone. I needed somewhere to go when BlackBerry, Motorola & Samsung let me down, & LG gave me the proper route. I love the QHD screen but just wish they didn't rush the technology. I really enjoy the UI. Over the last few years, I felt the need for ROMs & drastic changes. That's not the case with this phone. I only had a few tweaks. Overall, this is one of my favorite devices. I look forward to the Lollipop update & the LG G4 truly being a better version of this phone.
Only had it for a few days, but definitely happy. Wanted the largest possible screen in the smallest for factor. This fits the bill. Was easy enough to roll back to 10b, root and install TWRP...now back on 12b rooted and it's doing everything I want it to thus far. If we can keep root on LP by flashing the stock ROM I'll be doing it.

I am coming from a G2 and the funny thing is that my G2 runs faster than this G3 does... is this normal? Now I will give you the fact that I am running a custom rom on my G2 and stock on my G3 but still. it's nothing bad, but it does lag slightly. Is a custom ROM needed on my G3 to smooth things up? Note that I did already enable developer mode and turned off the animation time to make it faster. I also am running Solo launcher w/ the ultra fast mode on both phones.
So far I am considering, sadly, to keep my G2 instead... thoughts?

Changing the Rom has greatly increase the speed of the phone, completely different phone now. If you want to keep a stock based Rom with a little aosp check out eclipse Rom with skydragon kernel.

honestly though, i was planning on getting the note 3 off of amazon or via best buy. the day before i wanted to get it, it went up in price. I'm sure it was fate, cause i know i wouldn't have been anywhere near as happy with the N3 than i am with the G3 now. its heaven.

Yeah the tempered glass screen is a waste. I had it and it got lose and an air bubble got in, and wrecked the whole thing. Put a regular screen protector on; I've knocked my phone against a wall in my room a couple of times (from off the bed) and its been fine.

Number Two Phone
I would consider the G3 my number two compared to the Galaxy S3. I spent two years abusing working with the S3, went to town with different ROMs, took a great number of pictures with it ... and it holds the number one spot for me. It was rock solid for everything I did to it.
The LG G3 gave me trouble within a month with call quality. Months later, the wonky USB port drained my battery from 39% to zero after charging overnight. I seriously thought the phone fried/died and that I would need to replace it with something ASAP (need it for work). Luckily, the phone turned on with a spare battery.
What's great about the G3 is the camera, the gorgeous screen and faster processor. Stock is better on the G3 compared to Galaxy S3's TouchWiz, so I'm happy with it.
I've had no issues with Noot's tempered glass screen protector. It certainly makes the phone's screen look good. I have a thin TPU case and it holds the glass on pretty well. I can also remove the case without disturbing the glass. My only complaint is the serious reflectiveness of it since I came from an anti-glare screen protector. It is virtually impossible to see the screen in daylight when using the phone for navigation in the car.
Yeah the stock Verizon rom definitely lags. But once you install a good custom rom, this baby flies! Especially on Lollipop!

I absolutely love my G3 and run nothing but stock. I personally have never noticed any of the lag others have reported, but everyone has different usage patterns and background services running. It runs a lot smoother than my Galaxy S4 (also stock) ever did.

In the past calendar year, I've had the G2, M8, and G3. My favorite of those three was the G2. It was a beautiful size with a beautiful screen. The phone had no lag (I was running custom ROMs: Cloudy, Clean Rom, and some AOSP base Roms). I would recommend that phone anyday. The only complaint i had with it was the lack of SD storage. The M8 was a great accidental phone. The camera was disappointing and ending up being the killing factor. I loved how strong development was on that phone. There was little delay from when I got the phone to when i started flashing.
And finally comes the G3. This phone felt rushed. I felt like it should have been released in October of last year instead of summer. The battery took a hit from the G2, the processing speed seemed to be worse, the screen wasn't as amazing. The camera was nice, but the front (selfie) camera was less than stellar (considering I was coming from the M8). I appreciated the removable battery and the external SD card. The last phone that had both of those features was the atrix 4g. The G3 cut too many corners and rushed too many things. I would recommend the G2 over it. It's cheaper and has very few flaws imo
I just got this phone yesterday. Coming from a Note 4. Not sure how much good the secondary screen will provide. Is this a good phone? Is there developer interest? Would I be happier with a different phone from verizon? The main reason I got this phone was because it has a removable back and replaceable battery in addition to an SD Card slot.
I got it because my Z3v broke and I needed a replacement. I was considering the G4 but I liked the fingerprint scanner so I went with this on black Friday. It's a good phone for the $170~ with all the deals I got but if I had to pay more I might not have gone for it honestly. I love the replaceable batteries I got and the 200gb SD card. The camera is great on it, and the wide screen front camera looks great in photos.
Secondary screen is pretty useless for me, I leave it off or on the signature screen. Also as for development I don't think we'll see much cause Verizon. I'll probably keep it for awhile but honestly might upgrade to one of next year's nexus devices if they look good.
So far I love it. My Note 4 was turned into a square white turd by the latest update from Verizon. It was absolute crap, overheat, battery life sucked and it would just go black...Verizon said that it was impossible to downgrade back to 4.4.4 where my phone was great. This phone is Smooooth as butter. The second screen is kinda gimicky but it does come in handy, much better than that "edge" crap from Samsung. As far as root??? Dont get your hopes up, the note 4 never got it and probably will only when it is obsolete. Just enjoy the buttery smoothness that is the V10. I know I will.
The V10 is great. I considered a Samsung but they got rid of expandable storage and removable battery. Otherwise, I might have ended up with a Note 5. This is my third LG device. I have the G2 and G3 prior to this. Not crazy about the second screen and I think there's no need for 2 front facing cameras. All in all I love it.

Main gripe is lack of root / dev support. My G4 was rooted rather quickly and I never realized just how much Viper4Android did for my music. Sure there's a DAC and AMP, but Viper had a LEGIT equalizer, compression, and the main selling point: Convolution. I realize I'm in the minority here. But actually, 3 of the new features that the G4 didn't have I find don't use. I've literally disabled the 2nd screen entirely since the lack of customization proved it to be useless / distracting to me. Plus that light bleed when the screen was off was annoying. Completely didn't realize there wasn't any LED notification light until it was too late. Wide angle front facing lens is nice, but I'm not much of a selfie person and would have LOVED to have a wide angle rear facing lens more. Front facing camera quality also seems sub-par compared to G4. Battery dies faster on the V10 than it did on the G4. I can't change the DPI on the V10 because the 2nd screen causes any DPI app to FC. Finger print scanner didn't work with any of my cases, but I don't really use a lock screen any ways because I use Gravity Screen. I just really feel dumb for switching...but you don't know what you have til it's gone! Oh well. I learned my lesson. I'm trying to convince my brother-in-law to trade me his G4 for my V10. Wish me luck. ( ^o^)/
I love my V10. I hated the LED on my G2 and G3. Second screen shows icons for notifications which is more helpful to me. When in silent mode I can quickly see what app is notifying me and can decide if it needs attending to. Not that activating the screen is any slower but I like that aspect of second screen. I only notice the bleed when the screen is off and the room is dark. I'm not real big into EQs or anything. The new VZW updates that came last week fixed the FPS issue. Works great with a case. I never had a FPS before and I hated security locks so I never used one previously. I absolutely love the phone. I tried root and ROMs with my G3 and while I found some features that were good I found more that I didn't have. I missed the VZW Visual Voicemail app and the LG camera app. LG has now included the flashlight with the OS and the UI is pretty smooth. I'm happy with the improvements to Lollipop on the V10. I getting an average of 4 and a half ours of Screen On Time with one charge from 100% to 5%. There are days when it's less but I am just happy with the V10. I also loved my G2 and G3 so I was confident that I'd like the V10.

Cant say as that I blame you for wanting a rooted phone back.
As far as the fingerprint scanner, I fixed that issue with some tin foil. You have to make contact with the steel sidebars to get the scanner to work. Mine works great with the caseformer case. I actually use the second screen. I comes in handy especially with the camera. And the camera takes photos in RAW format which makes photoshop editing more precise.
I use poweramp and winamp on this phone and they are great....
But if the V10 is not for you, maybe bro in law will be kind...good luck!

This is just my personal opinion thread. Around three months ago I swapped the G3 for brand new Nexus 6P and wanted to share with you my thoughts. I will write it in a comparison way to show what changed for me.
1. PRICE - I paid £120 for used 16GB LG G3 almost a year ago. The nexus cost me £440 for 32GB brand new from a phone shop back in December (early Christmas present for myself).
2. DESIGN - I still really like the G3! The overall smoothness, no buttons on the side (I became a fan of buttons on the back), the feel of lightness. Yes, it's plastic, but because of that I never bothered with any cases. In worst case I could just replace the rear cover for new one - job done. The screen is very good, but over sharpening bothered me sometimes. And those bezels - I think one of the best examples of what you can do with screen-to-body ratio. And the size was perfect - big but still mostly manageable with one hand (thanks to thin bezels again).
The design of Nexus 6P speaks for itself. I liked aluminium feel on iPhone, HTC ONE m7 and I like it on the 6P. The only problem with it is... It's aluminium and I don't want to scratch it. So like on iPhone I had to sacrifice the superb feeling and put it in a case. The visor on top doesn't bother me really. I think it looks interesting, differentiates the phone from hundreds of others looking the same. On the front - (almost) stereo speakers. The play nice and loud although I suffer from top speaker being louder. And yes I can hear the imbalance... The bezels are rather big (normal, considering speakers upfront?). And I don't like these buttons on the side. When I grab the phone, and unlock with finger on my way, sometimes I lock it again accidentally with my thumb. And there's the issue with some car mounts which grab your phone from the sides. It's just a big phone and my next one will be max 5,5" for sure.
3. CAMERA - I would say that these are comparable. I don't have big monitor (nor the PC for the matter) to properly compare them but they both seem very good. 6P gets more light and that's noticeable. I just wish 6P had 12Mp 16:9 instead of 4:3 because that forces me to use 8Mp 16:9. LG gets 10Mp in 16:9. Both shoot great videos but I think LG has little edge here with its OIS. Both shoot in 4K but I think LG has more potential (with hardware mod I have it doesn't overheat, has OIS, SD card slot and can be equipped with 6000/9000MAh swappable battery for long recordings). And LG has dual tone flash which is brighter than 6P's.
4. SOFTWARE - surprisingly stock LG G3 with Google launcher isn't that much slower than 6P. Sure, everything opens up faster on Nexus but the difference is not big. Multitasking on the other hand obviously is better on 6P - more RAM, quicker app changes. It just doesn't have this lag that G3 has, everything happens "now". But I miss the soft menu key bringing down notification bar, especially that 5,7" is a long way up for finger to reach it. Other thing I had and has been taken away is Miracast support. Blocking it was a bit Apple'ish behaviour to try and force users to buy Chromecast (I have chromecast, but many other friends with smart TV's don't and Miracast allowed me to easily share pics and vids on big screen).
5. SCREEN - LG has very nice screen (except for this over sharpening), but my first AMOLED is just something completely different. I love these blacks! Colours are nice and vivid albeit maybe a bit too saturated. SRGB mode on the other hand seems to be washed out too much. Maybe it's just too perfect for the likes of regular user. And whites are definitely whiter and brighter on G3.
OK, time to end this summary/comparison. These are just few of my thoughts and I know that many things can be changed with root (CPU Temp app doesn't show temperature on 6P and it drives me mad!), but I am not convinced yet to do it so things will stay as they are for now. Would I buy it again if I knew all this? Probably not and I'd wait for the release of new phones shown on MWC 2016. Maybe I would even choose something from China? Why not.
I don't know if anyone will find it interesting but I just wanted to share it with somebody, maybe get some feedback.

I wanted to say quickly, about your miracast comment. I had the note 4 previously that I used screen mirroring to watch movies from my phone on my TV. The Nexus 6p doesn't work exactly the same way, but there are two apps on the Google play store which work similar so I can still do the same thing essentially with my Nexus 6p. One is called imediashare, and the other is allconnect. Sometimes I have to switch from one app to the other because one may not play the video but the other one will, but it's not that big of a hassle. Give those apps a try and see if it solves your miracast issue. Otherwise, I love my Nexus 6p vs the note 4. So far, the Nexus 6p has been the best device I've ever owned and used, and I have used a lot of devices. Cheers!
I came to the 6p from the g3 and I'm very happy with the choice. At first I really missed the double tap unlock feature, but quickly got used to not having it.

You can get that feature by flashing a custom kernel... Or I guess search through the forums there is a method somewhere to activate the dt2w... Sorry could have posted had I not been using mobile XDA premium app...
P.S I don't really use the feature myself as the FP sensor is good enough for me...
Also had the G3 before the 6P, and the 6P is vastly superior in every way!
I had a g3 before my nexus 6 which I now have a 6p the 6 was world's better then the g3 Imo and the 6p is a different monster all together. The g3 was my shortest kept android was far to laggy and slow 801 was not ready for that screen.

I use Nova launcher, and have the swipe down action set to bring down the notification bar. That way I can swipe down anywhere on home screen and it brings the notification bar down, no need to reach for the top.

You don't need root to swipe down in Nova. I just revoked root access to Nova to confirm. You just go into Nova settings > gestures & inputs, and set swipe down to "expand notifications"
My last phone was the G3 (D850). I did not have a good experience with it. I am blown away with the performance of the 6P thus far.

You could solve 90% of your problems with custom ROM and kernel... Try Chroma and Franco. You get all the features and your battery life will be much better on top. Using this Combo for about 3 months and didn't have a single problem.
yeah! I miss my htc-m8. because I'd multirom with 3 base version of Android! I mean, I'd kitkat and lollipop and marshmallow in same time. so good so far!

I think I'd be happy to trade up to pretty much anything from a G3. My girlfriend has one and it's the most awful modern Android smartphone I've used. It's laggy, since the 801 really can't deal with a 2K display. That 'fancy' display is terrible, a huge retrograde step from the one on the G2 in terms of contrast, colour accuracy and outdoor visibility. The battery life is okay, but not fantastic like the G2 was with the same battery capacity. Then finally, hers locks up and drains the battery when the screen is off...
Still, I guess LG were allowed to have an 'off' day, since the G2 was fantastic, the G4 seems to be highly regarded, I loved my Nexus 4, the Nexus 5 was fantastic value if a bit creaky build-wise, and the 5X is a really nice bit of kit!
Edit: The speaker on the G3 is really good though. Nearly gives me a heart attack every time the damn thing rings. You could probably hear it from another continent...
The G3 was the worst phone I've owned in the past 5 years. Overheating, laggy piece of crap.
Amazing how many 6p guys came from g3. I didn't have any issues with my g3 other than battery. Would have left back to Nexus if the 6 had been worth a crap
LG G4 => Nexus 6P. Totally worth it.
I loved my G3 on Verizon running ResurrectionROM, 6.0.1, and xposed. Ran smooth and the overheating stopped once I got on Android 6.0. However, at least once a day it'd completely reboot on it's own and that got annoying. The screen was sharp but the colors sucked, brightness was awful, and the battery was awful.
This was a big upgrade.

It is crazy how many people came from G3. I had a Nexus 6 before my 6p and while I really liked my N6 the 6p is much better imo. I was at first skeptical because Huawei makes it but after a few devs I know talked so highly about it I decided to jump and I'm very happy that I did. I get a Nexus every year and this is by far my favorite of all phones I've owned since Android was born and I started w/ the G1. Google finally made a GREAT device with the Nexus 6p!!! I usually sell every year and buy a new one while this next year I will no doubt grab the new Nex I'm keeping my 6p. Nobody who bought a 6p has regretted it. I love mine!! ✌???
I also (we should start a club) came from the G3 to the Nexus 6p. I don't regret the upgrade at all. I was overall satisfied with my G3, but the battery life was the worst and I was never really happy with the screen. It was also super laggy at times where the N6P is always smooth. I do still find myself tapping the screen to wake my phone up, but am slowly getting used to the fingerprint scanner. Overall, the 6P is a way better phone in my opinion.

I had a Z ultra which was very smooth, fast and snappy. I got D850 from my brother and it was very slow even there was a stutter when opening the app drawer. I unlocked BL, rooted and installed MM for international version on D850 and it is much better. Still my Z ultra was relatively more snappier than LG G3. The screen resolution was great but the colors were dull and poor in outdoors. I got 3+ hours of screen on time with one day standby.
I bought Nexus 6p exchanging my Z ultra a few weeks ago and its easily the smoothest of the three devices.
I love the screen and the development support available for the device.
I'm looking to move on from the Z3v in the near future. I'm curious what phones others have moved on to. I'm looking at the Moto G4 Plus possibly with 4GB RAM and 64 GB on board.
I'm trying to keep my budget to <$300. Any ideas?

I moved onto the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but that was because of a BOGO deal last year.

The Moto Z is a truly modular phone that LG failed for its G5 to become. This is the Play version, but I'd rather much prefer the Force version as it has a bigger battery, better camera, and shatterproof screen tech. Either version comes with 32GBs, which isn't a problem to deal with when you can have expandable memory. It's not waterproof like the Z3v, but it's still splash resistant so I think streaming it in the sink won't do any harm if you want a quick clean. lol

Appreciate the response. I have an S7 for work which I really like, and I'm tracking the Edge on Swappa. I do like this phone. Unfortunately, I am locked to VZ, and that Moto Z Play Droid offer, which I was on the verge of ordering yesterday, is for new lines only...so regular price is $17/mo ($408 total) and that is just too rich for what I consider a "compromise" phone. I can get a mint condition S7 on Swappa for $330 or so, which is clearly superior.

Oh, it's always those fine print words that gets you. I forgot to even think that you have to get a new line to take advantage of the discounted price. If I read and knew about it, I wouldn't have recommended it to you.
For a mint condition S7, that's pretty good for $330. The flat version allows you better accessorizing like tempered glass and more variety of cases. Definitely make a go for it.
I tried out the LG G6 for a week. Then, I got on Ebay and I ordered a new, in box Z3v. Why? Because this phone cannot be beat. I'd move to AT&T and get a newer Xperia if it wasn't such a hassle or cost so much. After my screen kept registering a touch (after 3 years of working fine) I had to replace my original Z3v. I could keep the LG G6. It just wasn't $600 worth of improvement. In fact, the lack of the front facing stereo speakers was so annoying that that's what did it in for me. Maybe it was faster (I couldn't notice). Maybe it was on a newer Android version (There were a few neat improvements there.) Maybe it had a better camera (Again, after using Xposed to set my default auto to 20MP - I couldn't notice it.) Maybe it has better resolution (It must just be me but I couldn't see any improvement from full 1080 on the Z3v versus the LG G6. Maybe my eyes just can't see pixels any smaller than 1080).
So - to make a long story short- I walk into to Verizon to turn in my LG G6 before I couldn't and they were like "why?" And I was like because it's worse than what I replaced. I got what I had had on Ebay for $120 and I'm perfectly happy with it. They were like "What was it?" And I said a Sony Z3v and they were like "Yeah, you Sony people love your phones, don't you."

The front facing stereo speakers, flawless performance and still excellent battery life are hard to walk away from. Keeping it until another phone with stereo front facing speakers is available. Too bad people gave this phone such a bad rap an Verizon didn't support it. It was/is the perhaps the best phone Verizon possibly ever carried.

Actually I'm surprised I haven't moved on yet too! The battery life is still good... I'm still getting about 5 hours screen on time. My phone is no longer waterproof however as a couple of the flap/covers are missing...lol. My options are a little limited on Verizon for a replacement... don't like Samsung curved edge devices and Moto mods are not my thing. G6 looks OK but my Z3v still works perfectly fine so I'm not sure I want to give up yet. Hoping the Pixel 2 or Note 8 will trip my trigger. What do you have now?

I have the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The S8/S8+ curves are perfection because the S7 Edge's are way too curvey, but I guess I'll wait to upgrade later.
That's pretty great you still have 5 hours of SOT. I'm not getting anywhere near that unless I just watch movies on my S7 Edge because of how poorly optimized Samsung is with their software. I only find it problematic that the Z3v can't go into Marshmallow because the 801 chips are supposed to be able to do it. Doze mode is really helpful with that.
The Note 8 is a definite must with all its bells and whistles. The Pixel 2 is something I would have to see when they announce it because the Pixel 1's design language looks bland. The G6 seems like the reasonable upgrade from the Z3v, but the UI is different for my taste and you have to be weary of LG's bootloop issue.
I've moved on to the Note 8.
I have the S8+, but the edges and corners are too rounded. The extras, like the dual camera, more RAM and the Spen are great. I definitely love the form factor of the Note 8 over the S8+.
I am NOT a fan of the beveled edges! And the lack of stereo speakers is tough to take on such expensive models that are otherwise so feature rich.
Meanwhile, I am buying new batteries, adhesive gaskets and glass backs for both Z3Vs, which are in brand-new shape.

Aha, I've moved onto the Note 8. Once on the Note, I don't think I could ever go back to another smartphone. The S Pen is a jewel and the form factor is definitely a step up above the S7 Edge I had before and the S8/S8+. Albeit it is quite a tall phone though.
My Z3V is just sitting on my desk, reverted to factory image and all. Why buy new parts in repairing it though?
The batteries have crapped out. To replace them is a nightmare that involves removing the glass back with a heat gun. On videos I've seen, the adhesive gasket is unsalvageable. And since the back is glass, I figure there is a good chance of breaking it.
The parts are cheap, and both of my Z3Vs are in perfect shape with their boxes.
I'm fondly recalling my z3v while I enjoy writing this post with the S pen on my Noto 8. Ressurection of the Z3V is really all about the stereo speakers!
I'll start with my final thoughts, the LG G8X is a mid tier phone with a flagship design, spec wise its on the lower end of the "flagship" phones. Without the second screen the G8X would be a easy pass.
I've had the phone for about a month now, design wise its not premium, its not smooth or fluid around the edges front to back, the buttons sticks out a bit too much IMO, compare to my S9 plus its about the same thickness maybe a 2mm thicker front to back. it feels ok in the hand, I would never want to drop it, unlike all the other major brands I could not find a case or screen protector from Amazon Canada that was not shipping from China. I end up going to ebay to find a case, even the retailer could not find a case, this is how far LG have fallen.
Costco no longer carry LG phones nor does Rogers and best buy since the G7. Back to cases, it seems in other regions LG gave a case and headphones with the phone, for that frak you LG that was a shyty thing to do, for now I have to keep the phone in the dual screen case to protect it. Not including a case to all market is a disappointing move on LG part. (update) I just sold my S9 plus, the buyer was surprised the phone was used because of the condition the phone was in, zero scratches anywhere on the phone because I had a screen protector and various cases on the phone since day one ( Our secret don't tell the buyer I dropped that phone at least 5 times ). I finally received 2 case I bought from ebay as I could not find any local retailer with any LG G8X accessories.
Before I forget, the charging cable needs to be longer its too short to use with the magnetic adapter, it looks really cool on youtube, that's because its super light weight but once you plug the cable in depending on where or how far your plug is it will not work, the weight of the cable going down my side table have caused the phone to not charge because the magnet came loose which led me to buying a new wireless charger because the G8X did not work with my was current wireless charger.
On to the important stuff, the second screen works (yeah), it turns on sometimes by itself when I don't want it on or it turns off and will not turn on until you disconnect the phone and reconnect it, I've had to power down the phone a couple times to get the second screen or the outside info screen working again. As for software, many of you already know its sucks, first off out of the box the unit was not working properly I had to a factory reset twice not a big deal but I never had to do this with any other brand new phone in the last 10 years. I tried using the the LG keyboard but had to change it to the GB.
I've notice I have to hit the back button 2, 3 times for anything to happen, same with the home button, I know I pressed it from the taptic feedback, sometimes there's just a delay either way we should not have these kind of issues on 2019 major brand phone "flagship" at that.
To conclude again the LG G8X is not a flagship phone design and software wise, the idea is great and somewhat refreshing but it is not a game changer in its current form. Software aside if this phone with dual screen cost $10 to $100 more it would be a major pass for me, without the dual screen it would be a major major major major pass at its current price, it would have priced lower than the one plus phones. New G8 can be had for $400 Cad so there you go.
I just got mine and i only got it as a second phone. This phone is a novelty to me. I think that any tech enthusiast buying this phone will buy it with extremely low expectations. This is an LG after all. The same company that hasn't turned a profit since Q3 2014
It's regrettable if you thought you would get flagship performance from this phone. I got it for the party tricks.
Other than that everything you said was spot on and i agree wholeheartedly.
Yeah, I had to disable things like Mini-View and Floating Bar, just because they don't work reliably enough. There are just lots of little things like that. The Samsung equivalents on my Note 8 works much more reliably and has better UI/UX.
It has much promise and potential, but they gotta work on the software and make the UI/UX more cohesive. Now, it's just too rough around the edges.
I think you have buggy phones. I have not had any issues with the duel screen turning on or off. For gaming (Call of Duty) the dual screen is amazing! Wide View is rubbish though as the case is too thick, but works ok for Facebook, seems to add to the experience not detract. Even if you end up reading from only one screen, knowing from peripheral vision what is coming next actually enhances the viewing experience.
I will admit the phone is a bit laggy at times but fingers crossed LG will release Android 10 and we'll get some improvements.

I'll have to agree with inzimam here. I haven't had any issues with this phone as of yet. It hasn't exhibited any of the characteristics that have been complained about thus far. No lag (at least, no more lag than what is to be expected from a phone), no stuttering, no screen randomly turning off and if it is off I can always get it to turn back on.
As far as the OP is concerned, yeah, if you wanted a phone that was easy to find cases for, you should have gone with an iPhone. Or at the very least, a Samsung. Cases have been and will always be cheap and plentiful for those phones. Everything else, good luck. You are gonna need it.

I respectfully disagree with both of you, I forgot to mention when in "dark" mode the notification is still white, how ridiculous is that, the software needs cleaning up, at least 3 times this week the second screen turned on when I unlocked the phone, I know for sure I did not have it on before. Today I got another vague update, no info other than it will make the phone work better, really LG.
You're I could've bought pretty much any other phone and found a case at locally not just an Iphone or Samsung, you bringing up 2 other popular brand is a moot point because you can find cases for Moto, Nokia, Sony, HTC, Honor, Huawei easily. Consumers voicing their opinion is the least we can do, we deserve better not just mediocre like what we got from LG.
I'm using the G8X without the dual screen case right now, I have to be honest its not a upgrade over my S9 plus, this have nothing to do with branding, I still have my G6, I'm no fanboy, I have a Android tablet and a Ipad mini, I see things for what they are..
I haven't reached yet, can anyone tell me if we can remap the google assist button, I hated it on my S9 plus I hate it the same on the G8X.
Thinking on your comment regarding the cases, only a id$#t would suggest to buy another phone if I wanted a case to protect my hard earn money that spent on this phone, finding a case was one issue but it shouldn't be one seeing that LG gave a case to other regions. The product should entice others instead companies after companies are dropping LG phones or their accessories, please leave this fanboyism out of this. LG as company could very well be in trouble, their phones are not selling as well as they should be, more and more companies are coming out with Oled panels so Lg and Sony are no longer the only game in town, in a few years LG oled TV will be meh in the marketplace.
LG needs to clean up the software on their phones, better build, stick to the innovation for at least 3 years, oh, the V50 got Android 10 why not the LGX the last phone you released?

You're I could've bought pretty much any other phone and found a case at locally not just an Iphone or Samsung, you bringing up 2 other popular brand is a moot point because you can find cases for Moto, Nokia, Sony, HTC, Honor, Huawei easily. Consumers voicing their opinion is the least we can do, we deserve better not just mediocre like what we got from LG.
I'm using the G8X without the dual screen case right now, I have to be honest its not a upgrade over my S9 plus, this have nothing to do with branding, I still have my G6, I'm no fanboy, I have a Android tablet and a Ipad mini, I see things for what they are..
I haven't reached yet, can anyone tell me if we can remap the google assist button, I hated it on my S9 plus I hate it the same on the G8X.

Hey, never said that I was right. Just that I haven't had those issues yet.
I agree with you about the dark mode notifications. I suspect that it has something to do with dark mode not officially being available for Android 9... Coming from the LG V30, I'll take any dark mode I can get though.
Not sure where you live, but where I've lived, unless you have an iPhone or Samsung, your options are to order a case online, or order a case online... The HTC One M8 is the last phone I had where cases were actually stocked somewhere in a decent selection... The HTC 10 had a pathetic offering of one case I found at Bell in Vancouver. The case on that phone was almost like Randy's kid brother Ralphie getting wrapped up by his mother to go to school from the movie A Christmas Story. The V30 had exactly double the number of cases as the HTC 10 did, and both were equally as pathetic. The better case was utterly useless after 3 months as it was falling apart. So while I may be an id#$t for suggesting purchasing another phone, it always seems to be that ic you want a decent case to protect your phone, the answer seems to be iPhone or Samsung cause i can never find anything but the cheap chinese garbage cases that wont protect anything let alone a glass sandwich.
As far as fanboyism goes, you should have seen me when Nokia announced they were gonna be purchased by Microsoft... Or when HTC sold its engineering division to Google... This isn't fanboyism... LG would need to make a product that I don't immediately want to re-skin with a third party launcher before I'd consider being a fanboy of LG. ... You know what? I'd even settle for an Android OS upgrade that doesn't drop almost 24 months since that version of Android launched. (Looking specifically at the Android 9 update for the V30 H933 model.) I don't even want a cleaned up OS... I just want a freaking update!
To be honest, all the good phone makers of years gone by are in financial trouble unless they are Apple or Samsung... Nokia got sold to Microsoft, HTC sold its soul to Google, Motorola sold numerous times only to be acquired by Lenovo, and just like that relationship, the big names that are left are still here because they have massive companies backing them up. They don't have to turn a profit to stay alive... Those who did are no more, or aren't what they used to be. If memory serves correctly, Sony and LG haven't turned a profit in phones in close to 5 years. HTC is all but dead, Nokia is a sliver of what it used to be, and we know what happened with Motorola.

I'm gonna chime in because I've had ever single G and V series device since the G3 so I'm a big fan of LG devices.
I really tried to love the G8X. I think the price point in the us at least (albeit I'm in Canada) is spot on. The concept is fun and the screen is actually pretty nice. I liked the ui although slightly disappointed with night mode not having dark notifications. That will change with Android 10.
Theme system is still great. Actually lg has the best theme system on the market. I'm not talking about variety or quality but rather ability out of box to theme virtually anything with little restrictions.
I found battery life to be exceptionally good. I am also impressed with the sound quality of the device. It is a very loud device.
The second screen is cool and works very well. It obviously adds a lot of bulk and weight to the device. I found myself not actually using it after about a month. For me at least it just isn't needed. I don't play enough games and it just was more of something to show off to people like a hey look at this. But for my use it was impractical.
Camera is a big disappointment from what I'm used to with LG. I think they could have done better. Especially the front one. Mind you I don't do many selfies at all, but when I tested it I was disappointed.
Fingerprint sensor is absolutely horrible. I tried to pretend it wasn't crap but it really is bad. Slow and doesn't consistently work as many have complained. In the end I had to admit it just sucks. The animation for it was badass though. Having no face unlock is kinda disappointing. Even just regular face unlock would have been fine as it always worked well on other non tof devices.
What really killed me was how for at least Canadian devices for almost 2 months now LG has allowed devices to have broken LTE. November security patch broke LTE and lg simply told users to just not use lte and switch to 3g. I did find a fix and made a thread for it. Mind you my fix breaks voicemail shortcut. It does restore LTE. They still have not addressed this. That is completely unacceptable.
So I made the decision last week to sell my G8X. It pains me to say it but I feel I made the right call. It just isn't good enough. My G8 is just so much better and has better features imo.
I'm still kinda bummed about it but I did what I felt I needed to do to recover my money as best I could before the device that I just couldn't love no matter how hard I tried lost too much value.

Zero crashes or second screen shutdowns. I find the fingerprint sensor to be only marginally worse than the case-back sensor on the V30, so to me it's a nonissue.
Complaining that without the second screen the G8X isn't all that is IMO a head-scratcher. The only reason to buy the G8X is for the second screen. If you're not going to use that, I don't know why you would buy this phone.
The charging issues I'm not going to address, as I have Qi wireless chargers both at home and my office, so I have yet to even try wired charging.
Do I wish the case front wasn't mirrored and a fingerprint magnet? Yes. Do I wish the front screen was more than a tiny notification screen? Yes. Since the case is a USB-C accessory, my hope is that either LG or third parties develop other second-screen options that improve the functionality and usability of the second screen case. That's the interesting thing about this approach compared to the "folding phones" model: accessory case replacements and improvements can presumably be acquired without having to replace the original phone.

Sad to see you go, But I totally agree with the fingerprint scanner. It's pitiful. Pathetic. Sorry excuse for a fingerprint scanner. As far as LG software goes, well, you know my opinion on that... The worst part about being stuck on the Android 8 update was Bluetooth on the V30 was so beyond buggy it was a freaking joke... I get your frustration with their pathetic software..

Agreed as well. What's keeping me here is I've found the second screen to be useful more than I thought I would, it's supposed to have a Quad DAC (I suspect the ESS Sabre 9218 out of the standard G8, but no one will tell me), and finally, because my pathetic phone carrier wont stock the standard G8.

Only thing I disagree with is the fingerprint scanner. It's not the best but it's definitely not horrible. Coming from the V30 which worked 10/10 times, the G8X works about 9/10 times. However, I still wish it had a face unlock. It would be nice to have it automatically unlock after opening the second screen.
I use the dual screen case about 50% of the time. Having two screens is super fun and useful but I find myself using it less and picking up my V30 more when I have it attached.
There are a few software hiccups that I do find annoying, mostly when I'm using the gestures so I just stick to the button navigation. Also pulling down the notification shade looks kind of janky so I hope they fix some of the animations.
I'm trying hard to love this phone but LG software experience is making hard. The fingerprint sensor is a 7/10 for me, battery life is a hit or miss, with the same usage, the phone in the case no dual screen sometimes I will get 6 hours screen time with 30% battery end of day but other times only 3.5 hours screen on with 34% end of day, more of the latter in my experience. As some mentioned the software is not smooth, be it flickering, delay or just not smooth, comfort view keeps turning off for not reason; lately I've been thinking about my S9+, I'm no fanboy I know Samsung had their issues but it was a better experience all around..
Anyhow hope we get android 10 soon and hopefully it fixes some of these issues, sad thing is you can pickup a G8 for around $300 Canadian, like I said if there was no second screen the G8/V50 would be a better buy if you're looking for an LG phone. I going to try a day or 2 without the dual screen case to see if I get a more consistent battery life.
I'm not hating on LG I just wish they would clean up their software before the go the way of BlackBerry. I think in the next week or so I going to post it for sale, just hope I don't lose money on it. I love the concept, idea, just from the wrong company. The LG G8X should've been released with android 10, instead LG is doing the same old thing, I would take a cleaner experience over android 10 but since I'm not getting either from LG I'll just complain and move on lol.
FYI you can turn on the second screen using the "knock on" or double tap feature.
Some of you that have issues with the screen turning on by itself could just be you accidentally double tapping that screen while handling the phone.
I was also able to find a case for it at The Source.
It's just a basic Pure Gear slim clear case, but the hard case packaging that it came in makes a great storage case for the dual screen when I'm not using it.
I personally love the feel of the phone in the hand being glass all around and not having a camera hump, but it's a slippery unit so a case is pretty necessary.
And the weight of 192 grams makes it feel like a premium device in the hand that could take some abuse (minus broken glass, but that's all phones nowadays).
I was on the fence about keeping the phone when I initially upgraded, and was contemplating returning it for an S10, but I figure the S10/S10+ are going to drop dramatically in price very shortly, whereas I think the G8X will hold it's value longer having the dual case option, and it being less expensive initially.
So far I'm having a good experience, but I may put up for sale or trade for an S10+ in the near future simply because I have zero clue if and when LG will be updating this thing to Android 10, never mind 11....
No way was I going to go for a newer Pixel with their abysmal battery life and no option for an SD card.
Also, anyone who tells me they can tell a difference between the 855/855+/865 I have a bridge to sell you...

If you check kijiji, the G8X is selling for less than the S10 or S10+, too late to get rid of it now, you'll lose money. Even sadder is the s9 and S9+ are getting Android 10 updates while the G8x is still in wind. This is my last LG phone, I can't in good conscience support them, I don't think we the consumers are asking for much from a company that claims to produce "flagship" devices.
Like I said, the idea was a good one but everything else is sloppy not on par with a major flagship smartphone.
I wonder if LG is going to use Covid-19 as a excuse to continue delay of Android 10 update release for the G8X. I'm done with this company, they don't deserve our money.

Without the 2nd screen, these are going for 200 USD on ebay, which is crazy for a 6 month old phone. I'm thinking about picking one up.
man this guy is a harsh critic. the phone is great. it's mid-range, so expect mid-range at a nice price point. but this thing has got several flagship features that set it it above other devices in this price range, obviously the dual screen, but also headphone jack + quad dac and surround sound, snapdragon 855, SD slot + 128gb built in, excellent cameras, insane battery life, sleek and quality design. I got it so cheap with Sprint (50% off plus free dual screen) that I can't imagine complaining about it, but maybe if you paid full price unlocked it would be different. great phone imo.
