You're busy and don't have time to wait, which is why you need to stop reading this thread and get back to organizing your Pogs. Rate this thread to express how the LG G6 performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the LG G6 keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I've run over 30 apps at once and it swaps between them instantly without lag. No issues whatsoever doing what I want how I want on this phone.
I'm not sure if anyone is getting this same error, but it keeps saying that I don't have enough memory to play videos. Never seen this error on any other LG phone that I have owned in the past. http://imgur.com/waldOvw

More ram used is better on Android. Most 4GB phones run with around 1 to 1.5GB free. Android caches your app data to improve loading times. Having more free ram actually hurts you. Androids memory management isn't like Windows for example.
This phone is an absolute dream for multitasking lol.
Is this phone overly aggressive on memory management? I keep seeing times when either overnight or even just not using the phone for like an hour, I suddenly only have 3 apps in my recent apps list and not the 6 or 8 I had been using. Which is just baffling to me as I never saw this on my old Galaxy S6. With 4GB of ram, this phone should not be needing to dump apps out on its own like this so much.
That's odd. Everything I have running stays running with no issues other than the stuff I have set to auto-close, via Greenify.
I thought with Android 7 the need for Greenify disappeared?
The multitasking is great but there's one glaring design flaw. When you have an app open and you open the notification drawer you get this round button at the bottom to change app scaling. This is great until you want to type a reply in the notification drawer.
The scaling button stands on top of your keyboard making it impossible to type anything without constantly having to move the button out of the way. The button is locked to the bottom so you can only move it left and right. Thankfully it only appears on certain apps like games.

just go into the 'secret menu'... *#546368#*870# (for the H870 model) open SMC menu and go to the bottom and select force long display, and change it to true, then the app scaling reminder/option will (should) stop. While there disable LDB (LG's 24/7 tracking software) frees up a lot of memory and helps battery to.

There's no clear information about what LDB actually does? Why qoulg LG shot 300 mb usefully usage into its feet?

Also never forever about developer options and animation scale. I always run mine at .5 sadly zero never works for me but I use nova launcher and its "faster than light" seething. Forget animation make it faster..also hopefully everyone knows about double tapping the recent apps button and you can quickly swap between the last app you were in and the one you're currently in. Much faster than selecting it from the list

Putting it at .5x and force render 2d does not cause black or white screen between apps. That's something else. I've been doing that on every phone for 5years. From lg to Samsung

Ya i have been doing the same . force gpu 2d rendering actually causes more battery drain.
I have disabled LDB/MLT services under secret menu that helped a bit.
0.5x doesn't cause black or white screen transition. I was saying about animation off scenario
When i lock the screen apps using internet (like chrome, amazon...) are killed immediatly from ram and I have to launch them again. Is there any option to change or something I can do?

Okay, I have a few tips that are likely helpful, or you could help me explore.. If anyone wants to post some useful features that may be overlooked or are hidden, I can update the OP.
First- Ram Utilization - Make that phone even more snappy!
Note- this settings resets after reboot! You would have to change each time you reboot!
Something I have been testing and seems to make a TREMENDOUS and immediate difference, at least in performance(and maybe battery, I guess it would depend on the background process cpu consumption)- the background process limit in developer options..
If you go to settings>developer settings>and change the background process limit to 4 or less(background processes-things that sync, this is NOT the same as activities which has its own setting, you can still multitask). If you want to test it out yourself, either pull down the status bar and click total memory, or get an app that gives you a much better breakdown of uses- I like system tuner, it does a good job. The third tip in this post will give you a shortcut to make it quicker to test.
Here are some screenshots of the ram break down-
This is with STANDARD limit:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Pay attention to all the numbers under memory usage-- now compare to when the limit is set to 4--
It goes from 289mb free to over 400mb free- the user space allocated ram goes from 58 to 83(this is the ram given to what you are actually DOING), and as you will see the rest of the allocated ram for included and excluded system and kernel all went DOWN. This is under FULL load. For these screenshots I went from limit for 4 to standard limit.. but as soon as I limited it to 4 it immediately jumped from 290mb of free ram to over 400 again.
I've been playing with this because I keep seeing people commenting on Keyboard lag- I experience it myself- and when it happens I noticed that there were too many background processes going on.. then again I have over 100 3rd party apps to hog my memory.
AGAIN, there IS a setting for "Don't keep activities- destroy activities as user leaves it"-- that is what would kill multitasking- I still had 8+ activities I could switch too and all were noticably snappier with background process limit of 4(or less). The difference between a limit of 4 and a limit of 1 seemed negligable, so for me I will stick to limit of 4..
Moving on..
Settings Usage- more useful than you might think.. - it may help tame data hungry apps and even reduce wakelocks(saving battery)
If you set a data usage limit you can actually restrict apps from using background data altogether- this is up to you, but may be useful if you ONLY want it to have access to data when it is in the foreground(you are USING it). Like I hate facebook, or I should say I hate that even if I tell it not to sync, it still uses data, still consumes CPU(in betterbatterystats it was number 3).. but if you go to- System Settings>Usage>set data usage limit(must be turned on to work)> click the name of the app>then check the box you'll see below..
..it'll show you a little pie chart of the foreground data(you using it) that is allowed versus what would be blocked. Before I enabled this it was causing wakelocks(wasted CPU), but since I enabled this there are no more wakelocks.. which is explained in the NEXT picture, the warning you get when you choose to enable it..
Which is why it wasn't creating wakelocks, it simply wasn't WORKING when I wasn't using it-- so be aware of that. ALSO be aware that if you enable something like dropbox like I did originally for my example, which I then used to upload these images -- some processes in an app ARE background, so when I shared from gallery dropbox was only a background process.. until I went into dropbox(making it a foreground app) or removed the restriction, or connected to WIFI, the pictures I was trying to share(hint, careful on disabling apps that share things) would never go thru.
As a last note on this feature, when you are in the usage settings you can click the menu button, click usage settings, and enable "restrict background data"(which I believe is a global feature, not sure though) or "show wifi usage".. Clicking show wifi usage enables the two tabs you see at the top of the pictures above, and I am pretty sure that if you click that tab, then an app and disable it THERE, it will restrict background data on the WIFI side(which is how I got facebook to stop wakelock altogether).
If I am wrong about any of this above, feel free to correct me
And I know this is supposed to be JUST ICS features, but this launcher is supposed to be like aosp launcher and has some extra usefulness..
Activities shortcuts with Apex Launcher - Hey, I think it is cool.. maybe someone else will too?
If you have apex launcher(available free in market) and you want to do some testing yourself to see which option for the last tip is better(as an example), the quickest way to the development settings- Longpress or menu button then add>shortcut>Activities>scroll all the way to settings, click expand arrow, scroll all the way down to "Developer options(.Settings$DevelopmentSettingsActivity)" and select it..
If you look through that list of activities, you will see this can be a VERY useful feature that hasn't been around much since Launcher Pro.
Anyways, that is all I can share now..
Very nice! At least I learned a few things! If you know where Face Unlock is and how to hide apps from the app drawer, please post it! I can't find both lol.

I noticed when I select the don't keep activities. The phone would reset and HTC would pop up. It took a few seconds for it to load maybe 2 but it was annoying.
Love all the other tips. Anything to help my erratic battery life I'm willing to try. I am anywhere from 5hrs to 13 hours. I was able to get 13 on a full charge and listening to music for 9 hours straight. Other days I may get a Max of 5 doing the same thing.

Yea, when I was doing research on what it was, there were plenty of guys with the nexus saying the same thing- apparently it got fixed in 4.0.4. Still a worthwhile trick.. I'd like to see if there is a way to set it on boot.

Quadrant isn't a good app, give up on it. Try antutu benchmark, or just don't base any opinions on any benchmark apps- they don't tell you anything.

I think this deserves its own thread so more people will be able to get a better view of the Vodafone Kit Kat update which i got today as an OTA ( D80220A DE 16GB ).
1. Auto brightness works perfectly (although it's a bit dark in low light conditions,maybe my eyes have to get used to it)
2. Knock on is instant, works perfectly and it's 100% accurate and successful (led light flashes cyan instead of white)
3. Auto account sync now works perfectly(it used to refresh randomly)
4. Battery life is actually better
5. Some apps run faster and they have the 3 dot option which first appeared on 4.3 I think?
6. Locations services and gps have merged to a single toggle button but you can still switch to different modes. Also more battery efficient.
7. White icons on status bar and transparency for status bar + front touch buttons on apps that support it
8. Updated LG applications
9. On screen phone application added (allows to control phone screen from the computer while on wifi) and preinstalled Google Drive app.
10. Camera photos are saved by default in a "camera" folder instead of the 100LGDSC.Camera(old) contains the old photos in gallery.
11. No knock code and no ART options available.
12. In application settings there is a separate "Disabled" bar next to "All" listing the disabled apps (Which is very convenient)
13. Printing added on general settings
14. 4G works normaly as before
15. The font on some apps is bigger
16. Weather animation now working properly and without lag on the lockscreen
17. Camera autofocus seems to have been improved, especially in video recording
18. No more stuttering on menu animations while something else runs in the background (i.e. When a chat head pops up or the weather widget refreshes)
19. Option in settings for turning on or off the led notification light for downloaded apps
20. Aspect ratio correction was removed from the settings (I can't find it so correct me if i'm wrong)
21. Two new FM radio widgets available

Issues:
1. "com.google.process.gapps has stopped" error showing up after each boot
(Note : Reportedly a hard reset fixes this)
(Note 2 : I confirmed that SwiftKey causes the error and it should be resolved by an app update.
Vote for the bug here: http://support.swiftkey.net/forums/...stions/5560697-foreclose-on-lg-g2-at-t-kitkat)
2. The Bluetooth process is running even when off but i don't see high impact on battery life as others mentioned.
Eventually people will report the issue and it will be fixed in a future update.
3. Noise and hissing when playing music with earphones and the stock player.
4. Sometimes,when plugging in the headphones the sound comes only from the the phone speaker and only way to resolve this is by rebooting.
(As for the lower benchmark scores after KitKat i've never tried it and i couldn't care less)

Can you try swiping the navigation bar downwards? I saw a video about a KK review on G2 and he can hide / show the nav bar by swiping gesture. Please confirm?

I've been using it since I saw it was available(going on 48 hours I think) and not a single FC, freeze up or slow down. I've picked widgets, and wallpapers. Swipe right and Google Now page opens. Hit search and the search bar pops out. Swipe up from the arrow and the app draw slides up as expected. The only thing I haven't tried is the new daily wallpaper option.
I got the R1 just for fun, not because I needed a phone but I have to say I am impressed with it.
Ok so here's the setup so far, converted prime to Oem using Colton's guides, bootloader unlocked, TWRP and root. Manual removal of remaining Amazon bloat and Google bloat I don't use. Mediatek File Manager gone, replaced with Solid Explorer ($1.99US) and supports systemless root. Flashed the Leaked Nexus Launcher and love it!! Removed Launcher 3(stock launcher). But have half a dozen nandroids before each new choice i decide to try,so not to worried if I need launcher3 back. One thing I have noticed after debloating and replacing launcher my memory use hovers around 800-950MB, prior to that it was avg 980-1100MB. It definitely feels pretty nice to me. I have never messed with xposed or anything but who knows maybe I'll read up on it this week. Anyhow a huge thanks to All the devs who been helping out with this phone!!

Is that using Smart Launcher? I had that on my phones for years, I've been thinking about going back to that from Nova

Yes indeed, that is smart launcher. Standard skin and icons.
Sent from my BLU R1 HD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thoughts? Not a lot of icons but nova up swipe gestures make stuff work, e.g. up swipe on keep opens collateral, up swipe on sleep launches darker. Icon pack is min with nova prime of course
This is my home screen, Nova launcher, all the icons have swipe up folders in them, widget is zooper, still getting the hang of it.. I've also added a few xposed modules (like the battery circle home button).

Is that Zooper widget from a pack or inbuilt? Personally I use kwgt because I read somewhere thst it uses much less battery. Also what other modules do you use, just curious

I haven't had it use a substantial amount of battery honestly. I'll look into kwgt, thanks!
When the phone screen is off a module called amplify kicks in and really extends the battery life by preventing certain wakelocks/alarms/services, I'm a huge fan.
I've been trying to get a popup window module to work but so far they've all been kinda buggy and gross. I had it on my note 4 (touchwiz) and it came in handy every now and then. I use gravitybox for.. everything... and I use maxlock so I feel better about using the horrible security of 'smart lock' in marshmallow. Only lock the appropriate apps. This is easy to get around if you know what to look for, but it keeps average joe from picking up my phone and using super user xD.

Oh that's nice, thanks for replying. What settings do you use for warlocks, is it just the stock one or something different? And try forced doze/ Naptime if you haven't already

I've found default settings to be a little light. Which is a good thing, I'd rather not miss important things. I've been turning on amplify for some unknown settings relating to some apps i consider 'dumb'. Apps that over-do sync, location poll etc. For example Facebook and Snapchat are about 45% of my service/ram use daily. So after you allow amplify to limit them (by feeding them false information) the battery use is minimal once I let the phone doze. in my pocket it barely uses 1-2% per hour. During heavy use (especially gps time etc) the phone gets quite hot and battery life is appropriately bad.
Amplify has a free mode and if you pay (2$?) minimum it unlocks his paid features, allowing the app to also limit wakelocks and alarms (if I'm not mistaken..)
Stumbled on this thread and it caused me to waste half my afternoon dicking around customizing! Just got my blu R1 yesterday and it's replacing my old HTC One M8 and after unlocking bootloader, disabling Amazon ads etc, I am super-happy and don't miss the m8 at all!

Dear all, i don't get any notifications in the status bar for anything as i used to get in other phones, also there is no notification led ligh, is this normal in the phone not to have these features as I can't find any option in the settings to bring them up
Read some reviews stating it might be a bug. Expect next update to resolve it. Don't really know if there's a notification led present or not.
There's a notification led at the bottom chin.
There is no space for notifications!!
Hi all,
I just received the delivery of F1 today. The phone is exceptionally good, but this notification thing is a huge irritant. The notch in this phone is rather big, and the remaining notification space is taken up by battery, wifi, phone signal on the right and time on the left. This leave no room for any other notifications! One of the best and most necessary feature of android (ie missed notification badges on status bar) is as good as disabled. I hope xiaomi does something about it. This is simply unacceptable.

Yup, seems like every other details that were supposed to be shown in status bar will now have to be accessed by expanding the notification shade ( pull down notification). This applies to battery percentage, network speed, app notifications and etc. It's kinda bummer as I keep missing out on replies from messaging apps due to this. Hope they fix this fast.
Actually they should have mentioned that as really if i would knew it i wouldn't have bought this phone as it is very annoying if the phone is silent i miss everything as also the notification led at the bottom is not working they should fix that

I have simply kept my phone back inside as I am waiting for case, tempered glass and my bootloader to get unlocked. Until then, I am back on my Redmi Note 5 Pro.

I just received an update MIUI 9.6.14.0. However, it didn't fix the notification situation. Anyways, I tried to understand this issue further. I tried the one-handed mode (OHM) to see if the notification displays the app notification badge. Unfortunately even in OHM the notch seem to a predefined UI cut out as opposed to a dynamic status bar. I also noticed that despite "Show All Notifications" is set on "On the lockscreen" settings, no notifications are displayed there as well. Either I'm really missing something, or there's a real bug on POCOF1 notifications.
On a side note unrelated, I really feel that the right side notch space is poorly managed. I believe the time, battery + percentage + mobile signal could be easily accommodated this space, leaving the left side notch area for app notification badge and what not.
That's the exact screen i have as well. No option to show notification badge
There is no option like this telling show notification icons where did u find it

Turning Off the notch just makes the status bar background black so that it mearges with the notch. It does not actually disable the notch. Still no notification badges.

In Android 9 Even if your phone has notch you'll see the notifications on left side with small icons. I think it will take a month or so or maybe they'll introduce it with MIUI10 update

Facing the same dam issue its highly annoying as i have missed some very important msgs phone was on silent mode n i missed them. This is highly unacceptable I have to scroll down after some time to see the notifications again and again.
Is it possible to return it to Flipkart ?? I am already unhappy with the Netflix issue on top of that this issue.

Sucks. Need to raise this issue to Xiaomi. Just discussing here wouldn't help I guess.

Hi
i updated my phone (mate 10 - ALP-L29) last week; After that, I can't get any more screen record (black screen in saved videos).
Task manager is White or Black!
All This Bugs TEMPORARILY Resolves with Restarting phone (for 6h maybe).
(fyi: After upgrading to Android 9, I reset phone to factory settings)

I have a problem with ram management since i have upgraded my mate 10 (6Gb ram version) to Android 9. Any solution to resolve this issue
I have 2 problems with my mate 10 after updating to emui9 (ALP-L29(c185)) first there is no reading for temp sensors secend when I open a game it's 720P (wtfff?) maybe because they have a stupid gpu in their flagship but 720 is to low everyone can see it
I switched to navigation gestures but when i want to go to home screen by swiping up it opens recent apps for a second and then goes back to home screen. Swiped fast or slow, short or long.
Lost ability to connect to 4G, tried everything I could with no success. Stuck with 3g h+ in an excellent 4g coverage area
P20
I have the same problem that inthedark22, but if you change the stock launcher the problem disapears..
I have 2 problems.. the PASSWORD VAULT does not appear in my settings and the Music Player Huawei is the same before the update.. anyone in the same "page"? Solutions???

I use the nova launcher, always, but now... Its nerve wrecking the gesture that you said in nova trying to get to the home screen... And the other 2 issues that i have, you have them too? I wanted the change of the music player, but......
Don't use the vault or music only spotify
I have 2 things that bothers me...
-white music
- no emoji change
I can change emoji and its okey in keyboard but when i use emojis, they are showed stock
For gestures in custom launcher i use fluid Navigation from playstore. Its an. Overlay but works without hickups. Didn't do fastboot option like said in the app but works without it.
Edit: you can also disable vibration

You might find it beneficial to actually explain your issue? If you are referring to the reduction of free, or wasted, ram? This is intentional to make the device more sprightly.
I am current facing the Navigation gesture issue as well. When I'm using stock launcher and in app drawer, the Navigation doesn't work at all. Nothing happens when I swipe up to go back.
Another issue is split screen. Whenever I'm done selecting first app to split, I won't be able to see the rest of the apps from multitask. It shows blank home screen but when you click on it, the app comes out.
(Not sure if this is just my device or if it affects multiple devices):
In EMUI 8 - I used to be able to set the delay time when the screen is off before being prompted to enter in my passcode/fingerprint. (THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS SLEEP TIMEOUT SETTING). I just upgraded to EMUI 9 (v. 9.0.0.160 (C605E2R1P11)) and I don't seem to have that same option available.
I have checked under the Security settings, the display settings, and even the battery settings and the option is no longer there. Is there something wrong with my firmware or has this feature been removed in EMUI 9?
Thanks for the feedback (and any tips to correct this). I have already factory reset my device after performing the upgrade so I'm starting off from a clean slate here.
and also i have some problems
first of all than bothers me is that the apps dont run in background
for ex pes2019 closes after some minutes
How did you manage to flash stock rom? Do you have unlocked bootloader? I have a lot of bugs after update, including blue tint on recents and also whit boxes like you, memory management is horrible and multitasking is worthless, keeps refreshing all apps, and YouTube can't run 1440p60 without stutter... ?
Tried factory reset and clean start, but no luck...
Hoping for an update from Huawei as my phone is totally stock, and can't get bootloader unlock code...

Have you tried using another launcher and disabling the stock Huawei launcher via ADB?
Doing this you lose gestures (I think - don't use them too old school) but you get stock recent apps switcher and it's fixed the issue for me with apps dying in the background.
I'm using Nova launcher.
Install any other launcher (Nova etc.. ) then run from pc:
adb shell pm disable-user com.huawei.android.launcher
(Taken from p20 threads)
