Software (ease of use, features, etc) - LG G6 Real Life Review

When you hand your phone to granny to take a photo of you, can she get the job done? Rate this thread to express how you deem the LG G6's camera software. A higher rating indicates that the software is easy to use, fast, uncluttered, and inclusive of advanced features for when you need them.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

This is some of the best software I have ever used with a camera. It can run in manual and it is very well fine-tuned. I also like that when you're in manual, you can "level" the phone as there is a graphic that appears to show you if you are tipping the phone in the shot.
The White balance (color temperature), ISO, shutter speed, EV(?), Manual Focus is possible in manual mode... HDR can also be turned on and off or left on "auto".
There are filters and lots of cool "modes" you can play with. There is also a "pop out" feature that uses both of the back cameras to create an inset image (which is customizeable with filters, different shapes, etc)
The selfie camera has lighting settings, filter and skin tone as well. Lighting adds more light to your face and skin tone basically adds a gaussian blur to your face if you want to give the appearance of faux smoother skin.
You can take advantage of the extra screen real estate and put a pop-up "camera roll" on the side to setup new shots based on past ones.

is it still the 5 min recording limit for 4K due to heating ? which LG v10 also has??

So what happens when you try to record again right after you just filmed? A warning too cool down/wait 5Min.?

Adequate, but difficult to use and over -difficult to use. Very difficult to navigate and understand within the application.

This phone has one of the best implementation of OEM skin over android. Its super light overlays and not trying to do too much in terms of animations and gimmicks. UX 6.0 has a consistent and proportional feeling throughout all the system apps with strict adherence to material design guidelines.
I highly recommend the following settings to take advantage of the insanely dense and crisp screen on this device and to best showcase the UX 6.0 UI themes.
# On Display settings
-- Set display size to smallest (makes the nav bar look apt-ly sized and frees up real estate)
-- Use LG's font instead of Roboto (this font is incredibly crisp on screen and uber readable)
-- Use bold settings for font (helps readability insanely, esp after setting the display size to small)
# On developer settings
-- Set animation speeds to 0.5x on all three animation types
-- Force GPU rendering for 2D
# Use a Dark Theme
-- Use a dark theme or black theme, default one is too bright to my taste.
I'm coming from a Oneplus3T who's OxygenOS had rave review for being a tastefully functional AOSP+ implementation of android. UX 6.0 takes it a notch up on the design side and is more refined than OOS. I wish they get to 7.1.2 soon to take advantage of the battery life improvements, otherwise this one's been mighty impressive so far compared to the experience i had on Oneplus3T.

Coming from mi 5, this mobile is excellent in terms of hardware and software needs to improve more. Previously had g2 which was perfect in all aspects. My sincere suggestion is improve the rom like miui. It has better features and doesn't lagg or hang.

If anybody wonder how to enable volume bar (yes it's very hidden xD) here is instruction https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75512773

[APP][ALPHA-XDA-Live-Wallpaper]---Update3: XDA-Version V2! ---Custom---Multitouch---

Updates:
I can't stop touching my phone!
BIG UPDATE Liquid Version 3 22.09.2012:
So much new stuff: New Objects, New Features, New artworks, New Settings, many Fixes and Changes, improved stability.
New Objects:
-The amazing Color Fluid Surface(including; Liquid Colors, Anti-Color, Particles, a swimming Object, Connections to other Objects, own new sub-section in Settings)
-Full Screen Image(just shifting a little with homescreen)
-New Liquid Beta-Particles (linked to the Fluid Surface to make, 2 fluid physic engines connected driving each other!)
-The amazing Color Fluid Surface:
Get a realy liquid screen.
Make fine colorfull swhirls with each finger or mix the whole fluid witch all touch points.
Continuously auto-selecting the "next most-amazing color" for each touch point.
See the colors mixing transparent on any background.
Finger 4 bill dropp Anti-Color, the mathematical opposite of Color. Anti-Color and Color will be colorfull neutralized against each other. Naturally Anti-Color is invisible but I found a way to show it. It´s enabled on default and will change to it´s naturally invisibility if switching to "Inverse Fluid Colors".
The Engine has it´s "own" swimming Particles and a swimming customizable Object.
Some Objects are connected to the fluid and will swimm in fluid and/or add forces to it.
The Fluid Particles are very fine and have some options, you can select an independent build-in texture to keep them look Particle-like while using any Picture on other Objects.
Fluid Surface code is great but calculated on cpu and needs power at higher fluid resolution. This needs some optimizations, I will try to move some expensive calculations to faster scripts or buffer-array-operations to make it run faster at higher resolutions. Rendering fluid is already fast.
-Static Background Picture. It´s just shifting a little with homescreen. If you select a not-transparent Picture, background will hide the 3D-Android and the 3D-Background Particles, so don't forget to disable hidden Objects to safe power.
-New Liquid Beta-Particles.
Interesting dynamic physics. Connected to Fluid Surface, if active together, engines will move each other, result will move very dynamic or chaotic.
Beta because unoptimized, slow, cpu draining, laggy touch and unstable physics could force close somtimes because moving out of bounds. But It can blast the Fluid
-New Image Artworks all supporting Transparency:
If you want to use old removed Images, you can extract the Images from old apk file.
-New Settings. Added icons to most options. Select Picture direct from Image-Buttons.
As simple and friendly as possible.
Linked gravity-sensor-delay to framerate slider to make it fast or power-safing together.
Added info and contact button linked to this thread(nothing else online yet).
Wallpaper runs fine without sdcard now. Just Cropping Image is not possible without sdcard reasonable.
- Build on Android 4.1.-, minimum required Android 2.2.
Runs Best on 4.1 with "additional features" and best stability. Settings Icons will not be visible on older Androids than 2.3.3 if I am right.
Runs on every phone and virtual device I tested. Also it runs on my TegravII Tablet on Android x86 4.0 R2 but only the 3D-Android is shown and changing Picture works but everything else not. So I will try to get it running complete on not fully compatible Android x86 later.
-Bugs: Nothing is realy broken for me. For left bugs seems just trying again makes it fine.
Loading or Cropping Pictures could still fail on bigger images or incompatible formats. I will rework the image handling a little softer to make this stable. Unfortunately Wallpaper can force close on first start in some cases.
This was next step to get everything ready for more interesting stuff.
Please send some feedback after testing.

Update II : 20.07.2012
I like it now. XDA-Texture is attached right way. I added perlinNoise like wavy movement to get it a little more interesting and flaglike.
No more forceClose in settings menu but still no effect on now selectable options. Next step= Lsd-colors(see LsdCam effect1) and settings. Will see to get the waves more harmonic and with some settings and more(maybe custom) images and it should be fine for first effect.
Have to come more and better.
Update 4 (26.07.12) : LSD-Wallpaper V4 XDA-Version V3! Resize and own Pictures.
Wallpaper should work on any display resolution.
-Options are working. -
-3 build in images or load own picture. Picture will be resized on load. Transparent png working.
-You can toggle waves on or off now..
Wallpaper is funny with own pictures of peoples and faces.
Issues:
If you want to use options to load own foto.png or own foto.jpg there must be the files foto.png or foto.jpg direct on sdcard, else it will forceClose. Will add a album selection with cropping there.
If you toggle waves on or off it will load xda image, so you have to select the picture you want again after toggling waves.
LsdWallpaper is drawing delayed @ 30fps while not consuming much power. Also it should release resources on hide so it should only consume power if you (could)see it. I can confirm the mesh dont moves if phone is locked. Also fps, texture- and mesh-resolution will be adjustable in settings.
This runs on other roms and display resolutions on emu, should run on most Android Phones now. should we give it to all Android phone section? I will not give them 3D if it is finished

You are right, I will try, I will have it also. But this will take some time.
Update: XDA-Version V1! There was not much time but here is the Result so far. Will add more effects and more options (current option is without effect). (Multi)-Touch to see XDA-logo. Note:Image is not attached the way it should and will be but this is also just a nice and free multitouch XDA-Life-Wallpaper. Works nice with the attached analog clock from the Android IDE.
It´s Live-Wallpaper-Whish-Week,
So please post any whish how your favorit dream live wallpaper should be and I will do my best to release it here (if I like the idea).
While porting my LSD-Cam to latest Android-Apis for supporting ICS-Roms I started creating life Wallpaper.
This I am currently locking into Android drawings and will attatch Textures first to my physics and implement many Effects for easy creating intresting and custom Live Wallpapers also for XDA community. This will keep some days, Eclipse-Android is not so diffrent to my mother language processing and everything runs like suspected, it is "just" porting to diffrent drawings and handlings.
so you may post whishes for wallpapers.
Also I will be able to create widgets, lockscreens or any professional android content.
Also I will look int 3D to bring up stereoscpopic content(I am also 3D-Master )
Works very well, looking forward to see more options

[Req] Screen mod between natural and standart

Hello everybody.
I find standart mod really too saturated but natural mod is also too washed out.
Could someone create a profile between them ?
Thanks a lot !

I'm not sure but I think display controls are all within the kernel and to my knowledge the only one where you can play with these is Perseus.
Here is a quote from the author of Perseus about the first implementation of display controls:
AndreiLux said:
Features / changelist:
Perseus alpha32 (29/01):
.....
[*]mDNIe sharpness and RGB/YCM chroma saturation control in STweaks:
I started implementing sharpness control in STweaks and went a bit over-board instead of a simple checkbox; You now have controls over the mDNIe registers as a delta offset value compared to the stock register values. I'm applying the offset to all mDNIe profiles and scenarios which have the specific post-processing effect active in that specific scenario. Meaning, that you start with the default profile; Dynamic / Standard / Natural / Movie and have the delta offset applied on top of that.
Sharpness delta. This is what brought most of the quality difference in hardcore's original tweaks. You can now fine-tune it to your own taste, and also take into regard that it produces a different effect for each screen profile while having the same delta - the base values between the profiles are different.
DE control - I don't know what this actually does and I couldn't discern much difference between the values, but it used to be disabled in hardcore's tweaks.
Chroma saturation control: This is composed of 2 values for each RGB/YCM channel. See the Munsell color system for a visual representation of the values controlled here. The chroma curve control describes the curve weight based on chroma intensity, the chroma gain is the chromatic gain that is being applied on the respective channel. Chromatic saturation weight is again another multiplier for all channels combined. I have not managed to properly identify the chroma grey threshold and its effects.
Basically this is like an RGB control on steroids, and enables you to tune your screen to your own liking and calibrate it as you wish. Please note that not all scenarios in the profiles have chroma saturation effects, the Movie profile for example has no effect applied to the UI so chromatic control has no effect on it.
I also want to state that the above are my deductions and theories on the descriptions of these controls, I'm not familiar enough on colour theory to be able to confidently say that these descriptions are correct, and the controls are a work-in-progress for now. Experts are welcome to contribute here.
[*]Front buffer early suspend delay option for those who have issues with the CRT animation.
[*]Did some refactoring on the Mali drivers and fixed a bug which may have caused less capable undervolting than the stock implementation.[/list]

I've read the dev was looking for testers preferably with color calibration equipment, so more is to be expected.
I wonder if Supercurio is making some display tweak apps for the N2, Id really like to have the ability to change the color temperature as most if not all of the Galaxy Note 2's Ive seen are really steering towards the warm whites ( depending on the brightness and ambient light )
Thanks androssama.
I use redpill but I tried perseus too. I saw that possibilty but it seems to complicated to me (I'm a noob).
I'm gonna try again. Which setting should I change to get between the two profiles ?

Scrolling: Android vs IOS

What do you think about Scrolling on Android?
I copy and paste that interesting post from here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/co..._source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=post_body
My question Is: It's possible, to tweak scrolling values? When yes, how could you modify it on Android?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Original Post:
...I am generally very happy with Android's scrolling. I like medium to fast scrolling on Android more than iOS (iOS limits the speed to let things load and keep things smooth), it feels more responsive and when you flick it, you get the speed you expect.
But when it comes to slow scrolling (this is when you're focused and are looking for something) iOS has a small tweak that makes it very satisfying to scroll. And this tweak is with the inertia. On iOS, when you make a small flick, the screen keeps scrolling, it creates a feeling of whatever you're scrolling is "on ice" or like a cube of butter on a smooth hot pan, it keeps moving. This produces a very nice effect. On Android on the other hand, when you make a small flick, the screen stops immediately like there is too much friction underneath. It does not feel as "airy" and "slippery".
I've made a comparison video to highlight the difference:
https://streamable.com/59901
It would be awesome if Google tweaked slow scrolling to be more like iOS and left fast scrolling as it is. I think it would create a better experience.

How to use config(xml)
Configs
Let's get started!
1. Go to settings and scroll to the very bottom where XML configs are mentioned.
2. Go to this item and save the config (naming it as you like, the main thing is to create a path)
3. Go to the path that was specified in the save (/ GCam /config7 ) and copy the configs there.
4. Go into the camera and click on an empty space near the white button and gallery on the right several times. A panel will appear in which all the configs that have been saved will be displayed, select them and click restore.
! The camera will restart and this will mean that the configs have taken effect!
Hope I could explain. Good luck
What is Lib Patcher ?
Libpatcher - is a custom setting where you can set all the settings to your liking
Radius Temporal: changes the graininess of the image by affecting noise, the higher the image is more blurry and less noise, the lower the more noisy, but more detail
Tone Curve: Adjust dark points, white points, shadows, highlights. It is recommended to enable and leave the default values.
Sharpness: allows you to control the sharpness of the image. Zoom in for low-light shots, and zoom out for selfies. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, ADJUST TO YOUR NEEDS
Luminance Noise Reduction: Controls the “graininess” in images caused by high ISO. Decrease it to get more detail at the expense of high noise, or increase it if the noise is unacceptable to you
Color Noise Reduction: Controls color spots. There is usually no need to adjust it as this will not improve the quality, but you can increase it slightly if you see colored spots in the dark. Too much chroma noise can cause a decrease in saturation. Also known as color noise
Contrast: allows you to control the contrast of the image. Increase it if you want darker shadows, and decrease it to make it brighter. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, REGULATE IT IN YOUR NEEDS
Saturation: allows you to control the saturation of the image. Increase it if you want more saturated colors in your photos. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, ADJUST TO YOUR NEEDS
Luminance noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) changes the photo very slightly, slightly smoothing out small elements
Level 2 (Rough Surfaces) seriously alters the image by smoothing grain
Level 3 (Edges) doesn't change much. Smooths edges slightly
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) radically alters the image by making it posterized by smoothing out large areas of the same color. Avoid magnification over 1.0
Color noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 2 (Rough surfaces) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 3 (Edges) Edges are mainly defined by the contrast between one object and another
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) Smooth surfaces are generally uniform areas of the image. Like wallpaper with few small details

Detailed info I found on Google for the app:
What is the lib patcher?Libpatcher - is a custom setting where you can set all the settings to your liking
Radius Temporal changes the graininess of the image by affecting noise, the higher the image is more blurry and less noise, the lower the more noisy, but more detail
Tone Curve is where you can adjust dark points, white points, shadows, highlights. It is recommended to enable and leave the default values or tweak them (advanced users)
Sharpness allows you to control the sharpness of the image. Zoom in for low-light shots, and zoom out for selfies.
Luminance Noise Reduction is what controls the “graininess” in images caused by high ISO.
Also known as color noise. Be careful with this setting it can mess with the fine details of an image.
Contrast settings allow you to control the contrast of the image. Increase it if you want darker shadows, and decrease it to make it brighter is the general idea. This is again a personal preference
Saturation is what allows you to control the saturation of the image. Increase it if you want more saturated colors in your photos. Obviously decrease if your HDR is getting too saturated. This is again a personal preference
Now there are some advanced settings. These affect the morphological processing. Naturally thats a very basic overview. I took the course while finishing up my engineering degree. It was difficult stuff past the basic level. I wont get into what these settings do beyond a decent generalization.
Warning to all these settings can absolutely have a drastic negative effect on your images. A lot of testing would be necessary by the end userLuminance noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) changes the photo very slightly, slightly smoothing out small elements in the image.
Level 2 (Rough Surfaces) seriously alters the image by smoothing grain
Level 3 (Edges) doesn’t change much.
Tips:If you notice a certain color of spots on your low light photos. Check its frequency spectrum. Look where its at in the photo and go to the specific wavelet reduction setting and tweak it. See if you can remove it. More often than not these settings are used to improve astrophotography, low light and high detail images.
My sensor has more higher frequency color noise than others. Ive seen some XDA users where they had to turn down denoise. It really all depends on a lot of stuff. Its fun to tweak and squeeze out what you can.
YMMVWill post occasional pics displaying some of the modded apps performance on occasionWhy didnt your wavelet settings work for me
Factors that affect settings
Your phone
When it was made
The chip itself
The silicon in your sensor
Ambient weather conditions
The image processing firmware on the Pixel Visual Core
Other properties of silicon unique and intrinsic to your device
FAQWhy are your colors listed as frequencies?
Light is an electromagnetic phenomenon and as an RF engineer its easier for me to refer to spectra as a frequency but one could easily refer to it in wavelengths or color (but color wont be accurate as thats up to perception)
What are wavelets?
A wavelet is how we define a center frequency and some deviation. We use wavelets because a color is not just one frequency its a range see here : Spectral color - Wikipedia 10 Its also an entire subset of mathematics used by anyone who works with the spectrum (i.e RF engineers, optical engineers (fiber stuff), biomedical engineers). They are helpful because we can take the average of a color spectrum (say blues) and convolve it with the signal to find the center frequency of blue or the blues in a subset (image). It basically the magic behind the IM processing math.

Just tried a sample of my night time “light bleed” mode and its okay. It still need more tweaking but heres an example of what tweaking your denoise settings can do. The image is far better than a stand night photograph (even with some longer exposure)
Keep in mind you wont remove all the noise. In fact it sometimes takes noise to remove or smooth noise (dithering). Dithering is a process where we add a bit of noise to a data set in an attempt to constructively perturb the signals we want to convolve, isolate and amplify over the average.
Really nice
Are the default settings after install already tweaked?

Any good xml?

I'm almost certain they are not tweaked but I enabled MWP - xHDR mode under Lib-Patcher and the results were incredible earlier today.

I don't know if any specific xml that are compatible on this beta.
I don't seem to be able to associate gcam with the power button shortcut - it always opens the original camera app (or nothing if I disable that one) - what do I need to do?
This one does really improve my pics quality, really nice mod

Unfortunately that's the limitation of the phone, I'm unable to get the modified GCam to work with the power button shortcut either. See attachment there is a Nova Launcher Paid gesture to quickly bring up any app if on the home screen. It's not only this app it can be any one you choose.

All praise goes to the creator and those that put all the hard work on creating it for us. I'm glad you have enjoyed using it.
I forgot exactly where on here I read and applied these settings via lib patcher, but with these settings, detail is far greater preserved than stock cam. there is a bit of noise but the detail preserved is worth it to me. the over the top denoise and sharpening is really evident on pets. give these settings a shot and lemme know if you can figure out how to preserve the detail with less noise!
first pic stock. 2nd gcam w settings posted previous to this post.. heavy noise and detail loss on stock. lil bit more noise but much greater detail preservation.
Can someone explain to me how to restore a xml i saved earlier? Thanks

Stock looks better. Too much noise on other.
even in great lighting situations, the stock cam denoises so much and loses so much detail in post processing.. for me, the little extra noise in low light is well worth it. I'm trying to find some pics of another dog outside and it's really evident how much post processing stock gcam has regardless of available light, but I may take more later. you can always play with the lib patcher to increase/decrease post processing
I have tried to increase the details to the max, and the mod does exactly what it is supposed to do, increases details and increases noise
It is now time to look for the best compromise. But I think the Google denoising algorithm is not so bad, I have seen far worth on Huawei phones
Why on my stock Pixel 6 the lib patcher options don't show up? It needs root?

I am not root. In the settings, goes to Mod Settings and you should see a Lip-Patcher option, above the gestures

Sorry it's completely my fault, I installed the wrong mod now it works except for the faces based autofocus which crash the app. Any workaround for this?
I got it to become the sorta default camera. I copied all the files from the new gcam into the original gcams app folder meaning install new gcam and then copy it's contents over. I
made a backup of the stock camera and opening stock apk now is the new gcam. I am trying to get self illumination working on the face unlock app lol haven't been able to get tnsg working yet. Edit I removed the gcam because face unlock app was messing up.

if you're taking photos of stationary objects, I find the best results paired w the mods I posted earlier, and changing the max amt of frames HDR Enhanced mode uses to 25. then use HDR enhanced as opposed to just HDR+. takes a second to capture won't work well with moving objects but takes a lot of noise out
I tried with Nyolsson's settings and it is a very nice compromise
