So it seems no matter what I do, I can't get a custom recovery to work. I rooted my phone using cf auto root, then went to install twrp just to get stuck at "recovery is not seandroid enforcing". (yes, stuck, it doesn't pass that. It's not a brief message, it doesn't go away. I can't get into recovery until I reinstall the stock one). I've tried installing it without a root and got nothing, then rooted with it already installed. And you guessed it, got nothing.
I'm really starting to get annoyed at this **** now...

A. You unlocked, flashed something, then relocked. You need to flash back to stock VRALJB then repeat the unlock procedure. Use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264

i got that as well, but only in between loading the kernal and flashing su. I didn't reboot like it asked, i just continued flashing su then let the motochopper script reboot for me, so i'm all good it seems for now.
Thanks so much for the info sextape!!!
edit. nm, it showed up again, but i'm not going to reboot until i have the stock firmware downloaded. I wonder if i freeze SEAndroid, if that would prevent the warning.

By "unauthorized software warning" do you mean the little triangle in the notification bar and the message saying "Device detected an application attempting unpermitted access" and asking you to reboot? That is because you have USB debugging checked in developer options. There is another option below that says Verify apps via USB, it's grayed out so I can't uncheck it, BUT if you freeze SEAndroid 1.0 with TiBu the warning goes away.

Odd, I've rebooted a few times and haven't had that happen. I tried rebooting with the warning and it took me to the samsung splash screen with the unlocked padlock and it said "recovery loading" and tried to do a software update. I managed to hit the power button and stop that from happening. Not sure WHAT would have happened if that had completed.

Hey all i accidentally hit the OTA update "OK" button when it popped up on my screen. I've been deferring it for the past few months but my finger slipped and hit the "OK" instead of the "defer" and choosing a date to ask again.
I have a looping "Teamwin" logo and it keeps looping.. Cant seem to do anything. I've taken out the battery and then start it up but it still does the same thing.
Any advice, step by step to get out of this loop?
Thanks!

yep click the link in my sig...refer to section 1b. you can probably get away with using root66 so you do not have to reroot and unlock BL.
Also when you get back up and running I would recommend freezing SDM1.0 apk with a App such as Titanium back up pro and you will no longer get prompted for OTA updates.

hold on a sec, can you boot into recovery? If so you can probably wipe data and re flash the rom you were on.

if you had an updated firmware then that file wouldnt work for you. i also noticed though you put that file in the bootloader field instead of the pda field when you tried flashing it one of those times. that may have been a bad thing. you could try to flash the other file marked vramc from that thread.

root66 works on all devices with the current firmware since it does not contain a bootloader, recovery, or wipe data. Sometimes it will cause a bootloop which all that is needed is to wipe data in recovery.

a while back I had a friend root my phone, he recently unrooted it and brought me back to stock. Tonight I received an OTA update and clicked ok. it stated to update and then rebooted into the "Samsung" screen with white lettering, but it stays there and the screen flickers.
If I try to boot into recovery it asks if I want to download a custom OS.
Does this mean it wasn't fully unrooted (we thought he took all the steps to unroot)? is there anything I can do? If I bring the phone into verizon will they know if has been rooted and will they even care?
thanks

You can flash the stock firmware via Odin to fix it --> LINK
I know this is not the best way to do so but I successfully got my G850A AT&T variant rooted using Kingroot 4.8.0.
Also when I boot up the phone, the lock icon turned into an open lock icon with the text "custom." Does that mean my bootloader has been unlocked?
I would like to install custom ROMs but had no luck installing twrp. Any ideas? I can try anything since this is a dead phone to me anyway.

There's no recovery image for it. The SLTECAN is only flashable via Odin which is not possible with the G850A.
Although I think we could get custom ROMs using Flash Fire if someone can port the ROMs to 850A. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com//at...tmas-heres-t3516196/post70011921#post70011921

Flashing 850W TWRP soft-bricks the device with the message "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been on the device ..." blah blah blah. I think a Safestrap recovery is better suited for this phone.

Can you give us a tutorial guide on how to do it. Most of us (including me) have tried the version of king root that your using and it fails to root.
However, you have given us stuck with the AT&T variant of this phone a little bit of hope, as you confirmed it can be rooted.

I got the same thing. I've heard AOSP ROMs are not going to work because of the locked bootloader. And TouchWiz ROMs will work if you port in an AT&T boot image making it "authorized."

And there's an S5 version of Safestrap but it only works with a Kitkat kernel. It might work with the Alpha since they have basically the same specs. I might try it in the future.
Does the Kingroot version matter? I tried this with Kingroot 5.0.0 instead of 4.8.0, and while it seems to initially fail, it actually does work. Verified with Root Checker and Kingroot itself was able to give root access to apps. However, it appears to cause certain apps like Camera (Samsung's) and S Health to fail. Uninstalled Kingroot and everything was working again (albeit unrooted).

You have to use 4.81 because later versions do not allow you to remove it and replace it with SuperSU.
