I am assuming you have to be on the PH1 or lesser version in order for this to work? Your walk through for verizon README says nothing about what your phone should currently be on. There were many users who were unable to downgrade from PHE version (green battery, root block update).
Anyone with a verizon phone want to try this out? =]
EDIT- GOing through some of the files, is this in fact the PHE update modified? If so, there should also be a warning that this will remove root for anyone that had it or did I miss something and the PHE version is now rootable?
I apologize I should have been more clear, this is not for anyone who has the original gray battery, rootable firmware, this is mainly for green batterys that have lost their PACKAGE disabler, so far the firmware takes the splash screen out and the update notification, follow rest of instructions to never worry about forced update to death firmware.....if you have root no obstacle is big to overcome for the sheer capability of being able to write systems files....
oook, so this is in fact for PHE firmwares, just modifies the system apks with the ones you provided and removes the update/flash screen.
---------- Post added at 12:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 PM ----------
My next question would be, since the apps crash out, is it safe to say that something will still be calling for them in the background? Would this cause battery drain, wake locks etc?
Well I say green battery update because it also works on the tmobile AP14 firmware, also it hasn't been tested on VERIZON note 7 but I'm confident that the files will flash because they are signed and they are not images which seem to be the only partitions that don't flash due to an encrypted signature of the bootloader. So when u you install a system app on itself it more accurately corrupts the app and it ceased to function, which is literally what the note7alliances shield app v2 does. I know this because after I stated on their website that installing system apps on top of themselves disables them, they came out with shield v2 the next day and then banned me. Suspicious, but I'm not accusing anyone of anything lol. To answer your question, anytime an app calls on the corrupted app u get a failed app splash message so don't do this corruption to any other app other than the system update apps
Thanks for the post ?
Proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 ?. Take that Samsung ???.
I am glad ro hear that there are some workarounds for people who have been victims of the capping firmwares, I am lucky, I am using my green batt icon note 7, charging 100%, as here in Mexico no capping or blocking are being made, I use an always floating batt temp indicator, and it never goes above 4 or 5 degrees above ambiental temperature, I have been using my note 7 for 6 months now!
Anything available for the Canadian variant? W8 model.
Hi everyone. Just curious. I have a Verizon note 7 with green battery icon, working great with package disabler. Since its unlocked I'm using Simple Mobile which uses T-Mobile's network. My question is can I flash the T-Mobile modified firmware here on a Verizon variant to avoid the issues that the Verizon firmware is creating when using T-mobile? I'm assuming it will run smoother this but will the phone safely accept it? Or stick with the Verizon firmware for the Verizon variant?
Good work, but stop with the v2 nonsense

First let me say, good job. Having another method to protect Note 7 users is always a plus and for that I say good job.
I might try this out, and if solid recommend it for users.
Now that part that has been bothering me. Your timeline about you being banned and the Alliance v2 App.
Here you say one day after you told the Alliance that installing system apps on top of themselves you were banned and v2 was released.
On the rebels site you said a week (this screenshot is before you said that and then got in the fight with the one dude and the thread was deleted)

Either way I wish I was that fast of a developer in the conditions I was in. (yes I am the developer of the Alliance Shield v1, v2 and v3).
Shield v2 took a little over two weeks to develop because at the time I was in the desert of California for two months. I am in the Army and my unit was there training. There are plenty of Facebook posts in the Alliance group about my conditions, one bar 3g tethered to a laptop in the back of a truck in a metal box.
Has it ever occurred to you that you though about/discovered the same idea we already had? It is possible, but to say that it was your idea, with no proof is what makes us mad.
Either timeline you want, one day or one week this screenshot from the Shield v2 Repo will prove that we had the idea before you told us as it was in development for 15 days before it was released.
We called this method the Solid Explorer method because that is the name of the App we were using to extract and install the APK's. We are digging for posts but we think we first started talking about it on December 3rd. Once v1 was blocked by Samsung we sprung into action on v2 using that method as it does not depend on Samsung
I don't want this to take away from your work, it is good work. Just tone down the the whole Alliance stole my idea talk. If that is how you felt, you should have contacted us, we are very nice to work with when you approach us. When you go behind our back saying we stole your idea is when we get upset.
EDIT: found it Nov 28 the Solid Explorer method was posted by a Mod for our site

I have no clue why or who ever in Samsung development messed this up, but when you stream flash videos in full screen the notification does not auto hide. To me this is completely unacceptable as it ruins the possibility of "full screen" and it can actually damage the oled in these phones.
I think this fix should be a MUST for any developer currently making rooms for this phone. The only from currently that I know of that fixes it is Cyanogen.. but I do want a stable ICS and oh boy can't we all dream of a perfect aosp from... dreams of super fast clean friendly user experience...

And you feel that you can issue demands to the devs because...?? Why are you so special?
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms? The only thing I'm wondering is why has this not been addressed by the community? Why is this still "OK" and why are trolls immediately the only ones present in this forum?
There's a Q&A for ya..
Its funny how you think my suggestion is un warranted. I just desperately want to ruin my phone with burn in right?
It's not your suggestion, it's your attitude.

AS said above, it looks like your are running ICS which is in beta and has not been officially released, you are complaining about an unfinished, unofficially released BETA rom.
You may need some time of reflection and a lot of reading to understand what you are doing......
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms?
You answer your question yourself why build a rom based on a half assed buggy beta release .
Put in a very simple way . Why waste time on a buggy beta build that may be very different come release day .
When ICS is released and if a dev thinks its worth fixing your problem i am sure they will .
jje
OK it sounds like no one understood , I will attempt to explain this better. This is NOT an ICS problem this problem is with EVERY rom including stock update strait from Kies. I went as far as contacting Samsung to get a fix, but as you can see in my profile I live in the US and the US Samsung will not help me with my UK phone. Why everything between us is so divided beats me but still the issue remains.
As I stated currently the only rom that fixes it is Cyanogen but just as JJ stated why use a buggy beta when the release will be much different/better. Also I am currently running ICS and have not encountered a single bug. Everything works perfect except for Samsung's stupid attempt to burn in my screen. I don't know about everyone else but I paid $580 for this phone and the last thing I want is a permanent" 3g" on my screen...

Then give us more information. Saying that streaming videos don't go full screen is no where near enough. What ROM, website, browser etc are you using because the last time I tried this (Not long after the S2 was released) it worked just fine. I tried a 720p video from megaupload and it went full screen just fine. Same with youtube/youtube app. Give more information, not attitude. Also, i'd wager than there is zero chance of your display burning in a 3G icon. Perhaps the full notification bar if you use MIUI/a white or light theme but I highly doubt the majority of people will experience any burn in, never mind such a small specific burn in.
Fair enough.. more info. I usually run completely stock and decided to play around with ics. A main site I stream with is twitch.TV (I am a big starcraft2 player and use the pro streams to get better) while I'm at work I watch for hours sometimes 7 hours straight. This WILL cause burn in.
When the problem occurs:
Watching ANY true flash video online(not YouTube app) while in full screen mode in any browser or Rom besides cyanogen.
If you don't believe me test it yourself. Go to twitch.TV pick a stream let the video load and click the full screen button. If you have a rom that the notification bar disappears let me know and you won't hear.me "moan" anymore.
Or maybe one of you super nice Brits can call UK Samsung and get an official fix. The number is 08702420303.

Download the diff, check for relevant changes (there's not many for fullscreen) and mod your own browser. Before you ask, I'm not going to hold your hand on this one, and am not willing to do it for you either (I don't use an ICS ROM).
Not asking for any hand holding or hand outs for that matter.. one last question can it be done completely from the phone?
Actually nvm that browser mod will not work with ics. Even states in that post "should be comparable with 2.3.x roms.

Sure it will, you just have to be willing to put in some work. Namely, as I already said, downloading the diff, checking for relevant changes (I think there's only two changes relating to full screen) and getting them into your Browser.apk. You're probably going to need to do some reading.
Judging by this part of your post:

I'm going to make a guess you won't bother with this.
Hi everyone
A few weeks after updating my S2 (O2 UK) to Jellybean and rooting it with Odin, I got a message on the phone about an available update (about 7MB in size).
The message cannot be closed, only postponed by a maximum of 3 hours at a time, so I went ahead and installed it, however after rebooting, I get the message:
"Failed to update firmware, try again using pc software (Kies)"
Then it keeps bringing up the message "Previous update package downloaded", again not letting me close or postpone it by more than 3 hours. When I use Kies, the software tells me:
"Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies. Current firmware version: PDA:LSN/PHONE:MS2/CSC:LS8(O2U)"
Can anyone suggest a way to either install this update or just get it to stop bugging me? Thanks in advance.
1.flash unbranded rom in odin.
2.root then unistall the update service.

Thanks Keith. Seem strange to have to buy an app just to avoid having to install an incompatible (but insistent) update! So does Titanium Backup pro allow you to interfere with the update's notifications, or does it delete the update files altogether?
As you discovered, the updates are automatically downloaded by the updater app which then tries to install them. TiBu stops the app from searching for the update to start with.....
No search>>no download>>no message about updating or a failed installation.....
TiBu is worth the outlay though....it can be used for way more than just freezing a couple of apps....it is one of, if not THE most useful app that someone running a rooted phone can get......that and a good root explorer app.....
As a 'taster'
Freeze apps
Defrost apps
Delete apps including unwanted system bloatware
Backup apps and data
Restore apps or apps and data or data alone
Batch actions
Re installation of backed up apps without having to re download them from the playstore
Backing up to cloud storage. .....
And plenty of other stuff that I haven't even explored yet.....so as I said. ....one of the most useful apps you can get. .....

Seems strange people think youve got to buy an app to stop it happening when 2 other free methods were listed.........and ignored.
-------------------------------------------
maybe your an iphone expert
------------------------------------------
I don't think anything was ignored....all I did was to suggest a more straightforward alternative (one that didn't involve flashing a new firmware).......
And as far as buying an app to freeze the updater apps.....a little research would inform the OP that there are free alternatives available for this task (system cleanup, system tuner, gemini app manager.......to name 3) my choice is to get a paid app because as I pointed out, the scope of options available within TiBu is superior to that available in the free alternatives. And while flashing an unbranded firmware may in some cases have it's merits. ...in this case, it's not needed as the OP already has the latest carrier specific firmware that he wanted......

theunderling: I'm sorry that my obliviousness has (clearly) caused you so much frustration Keith's solution simply seemed better in this case as it didn't involve a complete reinstall of the OS. And yes, with so much free stuff available on the Play Store, it's not unreasonable that people expect there to be a free (ad-supported) alternative for just about anything. Once he described the app in more detail, I did not need any more convincing that the app was worth buying.

Obviously there are a number of site still utilizing flash. If you need to be able to access these sites and their features from your phone, watch on.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below. Thanks for watching. It's only through viewers like yourself that I'm able to afford this stuff.

Great. And now that we already have the link to people that have it working on 4.4 and provided the download we wont have to watch the link you get paid for and download from your random server.
At least I know not everyone I've provided information to in the past is like you.
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using Tapatalk
I have no problem with you providing information. But while you easily could have said where the flash apk is and how to check a box after installing it (like I did) you are sending people to a video at a link that you get paid for views on and your own server to download the file.
Hopefully everyone else you have "provided info to" double checks things like I do.
This site has at least 6 ads displayed on any page. Not everyone on XDA Developers has had an Android phone before. This could be their first experience with the Android OS.
That link is to a dedicated server hosted by SingleHop who I pay roughly $250 dollars to a month. It has a 5 day backup in case I get hacked and have to restore files. They scan the drives for viruses which include malicious code so I can't even keep root exploits on there.
The download link which was available outside of the video is a redirect to the file location. So instead of copying a URL in case they are reading the information from their computer, they can just type in flash.cricketusers.com. This download location has been quite a few times on XDA and other sites.
Just a quick search of first page results shows that videos about flash installs on my Youtube channels have been shown at least 60k times. Someone thought it was worth viewing.
I only care to post this as your remarks in another thread I posted were of equal quality. A negative remark about the Verizon version of the HTC One Max not supporting AT&T LTE bands.
Out.
EDIT: http://flash2.cricketusers.com conveniently goes to a copy on my server of the modified APK for KitKat. I would give credit, but the other post did not mention the author from what I can see.
Dude. Its very simple. Its against xda rules to post a link to any site that pays you for others to access. I wont go into how shady it is to not just point someone at the working adobe apk directly and tell them to check one box.

I could have been like you and just told them it was there by default. Misinformation is still information right? You would have told them 1 way not to do it. Way to go Soldier.
I'm sure when Verizon was having discussions with HTC about the production of the Max, they didn't say "Please make sure our device can be used on AT&Ts network to include LTE so that their customer can buy it from us and put it on their network. Even better make sure it works perfectly so our customers can leave with their Max and go to AT&T".

InB4 people start loosing root and the ability to bump then start whining like a bunch of little gurlz.
#justsayin
I've got my popcorn ready for this upcoming sh*t storm of ill advised LP upgrades People need to practice patience. Updates are usually a bad thing.
But yet...people will take that OTA...seek out that OTA (that they previously had blocked)...and then complain about root being broken and not being able to revert back. Should be a good show :good:
I guess it is starting a slow leak out.... LG Support tool shows that I have an update when I first start the tool app, and then quickly flashes back to "your software is up to date".
I don't think anybody needs to worry about losing root just yet. Other than here, I haven't seen any news about a Verizon G3 update. I'd take this thread with a huge grain of salt.
Well as long as revert is possible were good,! Will see though ,this could be the update that stops that
We see this with every update on every device. People jump to take the OTA, then are mad at manufacture and carrier because they are unable to root or unlock bootloader. Rollback may not be possible with LP update. Look at the Note 3 (where I came from), once you took the 4.4.2 OTA, you were beat for rollback. Chainfire said awhile back how complicated root will be with LP. I will wait for the devs to deliver a pre rooted rom before I ever take an OTA.
LISTEN TO THE WARNINGS IF YOU WANT/NEED ROOT!
My software is official. I'm just not versed in pulling images. And as easy as most say it is I'm not able to do it. If someone would provide some help I could have the image up in an hour.

According to the following article, there is a security flaw in the Linux kernel that has allowed for Root access since 2013.!!!!! So if you are like me and still love your
"old faithfull(note 3)" then dont give up just yet. Lets see if developers or KingRoot,KingoRoot,OneClick Root devs take advantage of this exploit.
Any word updates post them on this thread.!

Hope is there, but whats missing are active devs using the Verizon Note 3. Our problem is that we are a very tiny minority of the Note 3 users, and most devs have already migrated to newer devices.

As for developers, yes, the Note 3 is ancient history. For the daily user, there are still many out there. I'd love to have root, but I don't have much experience on that end. I'd made a few custom roms several years ago, but completely not the same. I've made some inquires, and nobody seems willing to invest in a subset (non-rooted 4.4.4 or 5.0) of a subset (Verizon) of an older device (Note 3). It's sad to say, but we've been left behind.
This is an exploit that affects a wide range of devices.
If someone exploits it on a newer device...that exploit would also work for the Note 3. If not, it would be very close to working.
I am hopeful

Reading up on this, we are not affected...
The vulnerability affects any Linux Kernel version 3.8 and higher.

So if we can install a newer kernel (not happening), we can root with this method. The Note 3 will never be upgraded past kernel 3.4.0, under Lollipop 5.0.
If it is, this exploit will almost assuredly be patched...the only hope is if we can somehow upgrade the kernel to a vulnerable version without a legitimate OEM update.

Because of the locked bootloader, the kernel can not be upgraded via a signed Verizon update.
In other words....Verizon won't update the kernel and you can't.

I'm still over a year out on my contract, and frankly, I love the Note 3. Well, I love the s pen aspect. I could go on Ebay and find a Note 4, but that's about it. The Note 5 fails at what I'd want. More manufactures should have something like the s pen. It sucks only on line of one manufacture uses the higher quality pen input.
If this phone had a unlocked boot loader i would have never upgraded to another phone. Note 3 is still a very fast phone.
Hoping for Root on note 3 (verizon)
So, I still have my Verizon note 3 and use it often. Great phone, still fast and reliable.
A friend just gave me a Tmobile Note 3 asking if I could root it. I decided to start with his and then try mine afterwards.
I succeeded rooting the Tmobile Note 3 a few days ago. Decided, why stop there and gave it a shot on my Verizon Note 3.
Quickly learned the same process would not work.
Just recently came upon this thread after quite a bit of searching the interwebs.
I guess this is what I was looking for and feared finding at the same time.
Here's my takeaway from the research I've done:
-Cant get safestrap installed without root...
-Towelroot stopped working in 2014 and none of the oneclick methods work anymore.
-Can't get any custom recoveries installed either with the bootloader locked.
The summary being...the Verizon Note 3 (5.0) is not rootable?:crying:

it's already been rooted, almost the same way used for the s5 verizon lollipop root method, but the team won't share the method yet.hope we get it soon.
A quote from there posted by lilrob29
"Please make your decision: 02[*] WAITING FOR APPEAR YOUR DIVECE N900V[*] ROOT INSTALLING NOW ...IF Working You Should See A Whole Screen Of ########## down the left side of screen[*] If The Process Hangs For More Than 2 Minutes Close Dialog Pull Battery On*"
Notice the reference to n900v.
I know it probably doesn't mean much, just so.e hope. It's fun to beat the dead horse.
I can't post links,but there's a video proof for root Lollipop OF1,search in youtube for :
