Why is there almost no development for the Zenwatch 2? - Asus ZenWatch 2

It's sad to see, such an awesome and kinda cheap watch and almost no one seems to have it Or even actively developing stuff (and keeping it up-to-date) for it, like Kernels, Recoveries etc.
Now I know TWRP 3 is indeed working on it, but there are a few versions newer versions already which haven't been ported over yet.
Coming from the LG G Watch which had an "ever so blooming" development-path in the beginning (which was also sadly abandoned) it's weird.
Well, I really hope that with the upcoming Android Wear 2 things will change for the better a bit

Android on Nokia N9?

So the Nokia N9 is a beautiful peace of kit and Meego looks nice, but how much better would some ice cream sandwich be on that thing?
How hackable will the N9 be? I guess the main thing is, will anyone have one? Seeing as its not being released in a lot of places I can see it being hard to get a hold of...
I think that the nokia n9 is a nice phone and I do not understand why nokia do not use Android for its smartphone

It's simple, because Nokia has chosen Windows Phone as it main mobile OS.
As to why Nokia pick Windows over Android, it's simple too. Microsoft needs a great hardware partner to win, and Nokia needs a decent OS to survive. They need each other, and this situation gave Nokia lot of say and control in their hardware and future Windows Phone development. While Android is great, Android doesn't need Nokia and Nokia wouldn't stand a chance in the already super crowded Android ecosystem.
But anyway, the N9/Lumia800 is definitely the most beautiful smartphone I have seen in the last few years. The button-less N9 makes an ideal candidate for ICS. However, it's too expensive at the moment...

I already own what for me is the most beautiful Android phone - Xperia Arc. Just bought N9 yesterday as I couldn't resist not owning such a beautiful loooooking device that is also getting rave reviews.
N9 is just not a good looking device, it feels so f'in right in the hand. The screen, the feel all feel perfectly balanced. It makes my Arc look like a POS. While I love MeeGo so far, I still have lot of learning but frankly, Android messed me up so much that I feel it's hard to survive with other mobile OS if you know to use Android well.
I hope some genius out there can get ICS running on this beauty. Or, I hope Samsung shamelessly copies Nokia design as they are famous copy-cats!
yeah, when i saw buttonless n9 i immediately think about ics, they are perfect for each orthers, i used to be nokia fan, hope sone dev can make isc run on n9
Nokia e7 is my dream machine. With android of course. Or w7 so It can get eventually get android

I would be down for a Nokia N9 if there was a crew like CM that would try to port android on to it. By realistically I don't think that will happen, phone's not available in the US, CAN, or UK. And getting it off ebay is roughly $650, but I just might get it, sigh...
After reading up on the N9 I couldn't resist and got one. I had the Sony Arc as well and I been with Nokia until they messed up with the n97. But the N9 is another monster, really sleek design the OS is beautiful and colors on the screen really jumps. The black color looks really vivid and nice. I am now waiting for someone to hack android or can port android apps to the N9.
I would buy an n9 if someone ported ICS... just too nice a piece of kit to not own
Def a pretty phone. Android should really be present.
i will get n9, if someone port ics on it.
i'm working in high tech store in Italy and officially the N9 is not sold there, but we got one in the shop and is amazing; i really fell in love with that phone (you can never forget your first love )
i do want to buy it for myself, but what it bothers me is the lack of possible applications to install on the phone. an android porting on that device will be amazing.
is there a crazy guy that has tried an android porting on that device before?
also the original meego software looks pretty well and hands on runs smoothly and seems not having trouble at all, but i had only a quick 5 minutes test on the phone. what worries me is that the phone will left alone with no further support because it's the only one with meego software.
already done look at this video with meego operating 5 different OS search nokia on google and u will the link
Yeah I had SGS2 and got an N9 instead, mainly BECAUSE of the OS.
Android is slow on appswitching (at least the versions Ive run, where youd have to either exit the app, open task manager, then select from a list of icons, or you could hold the menubutton for a bit, then select an app from a list of icons).
ICS might be different, I have no idea how taskswitching is done on it.
However, I will say that the N9 rocks ass and it would be fun to dualboot ICS/Harmattan.
Also, to the above poster, its not allready done. A chinese fake version of the N9 with a 3.8" resistive touchscreen, dualsim and 1.3mp camera can, though. Also it comes with porn and talking tomcat. So theres that.
Just had to throw my hat into the ring. I am ridiculously tempted to purchase the N9. Damn thing is just too attractive.
I was really hoping for some community love but that may just be due to my HD2. Leo users have been Spoilt Rotten.
I see even a hint of android development and caution is out the window. Take my money.
Man I hope they boot leg the E7!

In the mean time i got an N9 for christmas, and the MeeGo OS built in is working pretty good, ha some features that i really love, like completely unified address book and unified messaging system, which slows me to modify the device.
On the other side, the are really few apps developed for meego os, that really pushes me to switch to another OS...
Mmm hard choice...
Awerellwv I bring your attention to Alien Dalvik(google it I cant post links)
Running android apps at native speed seems to negate the lack of apps issue. Assuming it all works as planned.
I've convinced myself I want an N9. Possibly just because that Cyan model looks fantastic. I would really love to see ongoing android development though, Knowing the device would keep up with the times is a big deal.
Now to just find the right price. If you really want to switch phones(and you have a cyan N9) I would be interested.

White 64GB N9
I have had since a few days the latest white 64GB version of the N9 and I must say, it's quite an incredible device!
I can't even imagine why Nokia went the WP7 way (beside some fresh cash certainly paid by M$).
Of course, there are still some functions & details missing and some things to iron out with Meego (like with WP7), but it's a very stable and fast OS (I'm impressed how fast Opera is loading!). I must add that it's still loaded with the 10.2011.34 Harmattan version, the latest 20.2011.40 hasn't yet been released for this specific model.
I just love the 3 screens idea, especially the "running tasks" screen, where you have access to all of the running apps and can either switch to the wanted one or close it/them. Why is it so complicated for other OS's to implement such a simple and easily accessible task manager??
The only downside I can see is the lack of applications. Only the true Linux developers will continue porting apps to this wonderful smartphone, and if we could get android applications to run on it, it would be great. And when I say run on it, it's preferably run on Meego, using Alien Dalvik or whatever other way.
If this is not possible, of course dual booting or ICS alone would be a solution, although I like the fact we're running an almost pure Linux/Debian machine, with an interesting touchscreen interface.
Hopefully Nokia will keep reading all of the N9 dedicated forums and will keep a Meego (or whatever it will be named in the future) branch of handsets, and of course supporting it/us.

Is LG or the G2 the worst for flash-addicts

Is the G2 the worst phone for flashing? Most G2 ROMS are alpha or beta a year and half later. Now it could be a LG thing because the G3 doesn't seem to be much better. Given the track record with this phone would any of you actually think about a Flex 2 or G4?

If you get flex 2 you will cry even more about roms....Imo g2 isnt supported like htc devices, i mean that many roms and that many customisation options especialy Venom roms, thats why i liked htc that much, also htc has best looking UI in my eyes, next is G3 Ui, thats why i got g2, cuz i could afford only htc one m7 which has bad camera and snapdragon 600 for preety much same price (used), and i am totally happy with my decision. If you want more roms, buy htc m9 and enjoy

Good phone, but i dont see it like some nice "upgrade" from g2.....
The thing is that htc phone have been getting modded for a long time now. With the likes of AndroidRevolutionHD (ARHD), Insertcoin, Venom (formerly pokemon rom i think) these guys have been working on htc phones for years and know htc sense well, coupled with unlockable bootloaders and htc's usually great build quality these developers have no real need to move elsewhere. They do great work just as our developers do but our developers have a different ball game to play. Locked bootloaders are a dev headache. Delayed source code is a headcahe. While the roms may be beta and alpha here its not fair to say this phone/oem is bad for flashing as the developers may not want to leave beta before all bugs are fixed (and some bugs can be damn stubborn). This coupled with the speed google releases new android versions and peoples lust to have the latest and greatest time for development roms often get left as beta/stable and people move on to the next port/source compile of android. I find alot of the time beta roms are perfectly acceptable for daily drivers but my logic would suggest if theres a bug it should be beta (although oems dont seem to obide to that ). Not to mention to alot of people this is a hobbie not a job, life gets in the way of hobbies.
With that said, i do agree that the m8 doesnt feel like much of a step up from here. Maybe you should hang around here flashing roms until the next HTC upgrade comes along and jump to that? At this point i think its fair to say that the latest htc phone will be supported by the big teams, it will most likely gain s-off and support multirom and the forums will most likely be rammed as usual with people who are new and not so eager to read before flashing

Well said :good:
Far from it. With the LG G2, there are probably more unique options than any other (non-nexus) phone. It can run the skinned G2 software, stock or tweaked. You can flash the skinned G3 software with an updated look. You can flash the LG Flex software. You can run Stock Android in 4.4.4 or 5.0.2 as it's similiarities with the Nexus 5 makes it easier to develop.
I will concede that within skinned roms, the updates are rarer... that will most likely change in the next two months as LG's Official 5.0 updates will go through more optimization until it works as a dev thinks it should.

I think the HTC flagships having the GPE editions give them an advantage if you don't like dealing with hardware compatibility issues the CM, AOSP etc ROMS can have.
The # of models of the G2 doesn't help much.. Daily CM 12's right now for just the one edition IIRC?
I had many HTC phones and the main thing is they abandon their phones quickly. Or at least they did as of One X+. Every phone, we'd have the promise of official firmware for a new version of android and at the last minute the phone would be eol'd.
I guess the gpe phones might help porting new stock firmware? Not sure since I left HTC after the one x+. Also, I found HTC phones bricked easy and unbricking was difficult.
But man, sense has always looked the best, and viper rom is always amazing.
But I like lg because the stock firmware doesn't even make me want to mod it. Every other brand I've had (Sony, Motorola), the stock firmware left something to be desired.

My previous phone was HTC One X, HTC said they wanted to update it to 4.4.2 but nvidia dropped support for its tegra socket, so they didnt have drivers to do that, but i see that htc one m7 is doing good, it will get lolipop till end of next month, so i think they got better with updates, at least thats almost 2 years of fast updates what you want more? Even google haven't updated their galaxy nexus cuz of dropped socket support...

I've heard the Verizon model has super sweet CM12 support and everything just amazing works perfectly. I haven't tried it yet but there are several Lollipop roms for the VS980 model, which is what I have and follow dev for.
The amount of number of various models doesn't help, although by now most roms support all variants with options to select your model for the fine tweaks each different model requires. The only model that has issues is the Verizon one using generic roms. It seems the stock Messaging app doesn't like to do MMS (I think because Verizon uses IMS). Not that there are road blocks. Lots of ports have fine tuned Verizon editions with everything working. I am personally loving the G3 Verizon rom port. It has everything I want/need and no issues.
I agree that the LG G2 does have plenty of options to choose from and it isn't just Stock or AOSP or CM.
I would not see any problem with my flash addict, if camera quality weren't that bad on AOSP roms. It's the only reason why I'm not swapping roms like crazy. I hope Lollipop will somehow change it (dreaming).
Coming from the Rezound and then the Razr MAXX HD, the G2 is My Flash Dream!!!! Roms, kernels, and mods- the ease of it all is ridiculously great(specially being virtually unbrickable)!
Actually I disagree. Yes G2 is not the best in the field of development and flashing but compared to many other flagships, I prefere it. Take a look at development section of exynous version of samsung flagships. Also there is no bootloader lock or knox or... Here
So that's one of the reasons after messing around with a few phones, including note3, nexus 5, G3 and one m7, I came back to g2

When flashing pay attention to model/variant you have, you can end with brick if you select wrong model.
I would not call it the worst phone but it definitely doesn't have the support the old school Galaxy S2 Skyrocket have, I'm still flashing on that thing even though I'm not using. G2 has a ton of alpha and beta roms but very few official stable roms. I'm almost ready to go back to iPhone if these Android phones keep having short-lived ROM support

As someone who has been using iOS for years, I'm currently VERY intrigued by Android

Hi guys, I'm a jailbroken iPhone 6S+ user. I'm currently a slave to Apple's ecosystem (iPad, Apple TV, Watch but not a Mac) I apologize for the wall of text below, but I know you guys are always glad to give a helping hand.
I've been using iOS since the iPod Touch 2G, taking a break for a couple months only in the Galaxy S3 days, which was my first and only android experience. Many iOS users are in the same boat as me.
Android was a whole different thing back then. Nowadays, when I see the curved, bright and saturated screen of an S7 and how well it pairs with the material design, I feel like I'd love to give that a spin. My problem is that I've been fed constant complaints on behalf of android users, using different handsets and at different times. Here are my main concerns:
I've always heard that, after a "honeymoon" period, almost without fail, all android handsets start to experience stuttering, freezing, rebooting, framerate drops, etc. (maybe one of those at a time, sometimes all of those are common occurrences) does this happen? This is the most important one for me, because if there's something that none of my iPhones ever suffered from, was reduced performance.
Software glitches which are mostly hardware-specific. I've visited the 6P subreddit, only to find a plethora of people complaining about the camera app freezing or crashing, some focus issue I believe as well, or maybe just reduced performance in other parts of the OS (which is the purest form of android). I've also heard that Samsung's bloatware, although only a fraction of what it was back on the S3 days, still causes the phone to feel sluggish at times. Haven't heard about Huawei or HTC bloatware, but I have watched reviews which mentioned some lag here and there.
Software updates. The whole ordeal of having to choose a phone thinking about whether it will get updates in the future or not is pretty sad. I know that Nexus phones are guaranteed to get updates for two years I believe, but as I stated before, visiting the 6P subreddit, I've seen people complain about Google updating the OS but leaving bugs unresolved for several iterations of it. How do you handle this when choosing a phone?
Customization. If there's one area that I've been always convinced Android was leaps and bounds ahead of iOS was this. However, as a jailbroken iOS user, I find that I get most of what you guys can get out the box, but in a prettier package. As in, jb tweaks are very tightly integrated and always match the OS look and feel. In Android, you work with apps or, after rooting, with "modules" I think they're called. How do these differ from JB tweaks (stability-wise as well)? How different is the process of waiting for root vs waiting for a JB? Is rooting as necessary as jailbreaking?
Lastly:
Apps. I am aware of the differences in general app quality when comparing the App Store and the Play Store. Big names such as FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc are mostly the same. But when you start digging a little bit deeper, you find that there's a big difference in not only availability, but also variety and polish. At least, that's how my experience was and what I tend to hear from Android users. How's the Play Store these days? Has this changed a bit?
I apologize once again for the wall of text. If you could answer each point with one or two lines I'd be immensely grateful. Honestly, since these points are big question marks in my head right now, I wouldn't even know what handset to look into, because I don't want to be unpleasantly surprised later on. Android screens though... Damn. Most of them are sexy.
Anyway, thank you very much for your time. Any help is deeply appreciated.
Stuttering/Freezing. You might find this on some low-end devices but the "flagship" devices that I've used haven't suffered from this. This would generally be caused by lower end hardware (lower clocked CPU and lower RAM).
Software glitches. I own the 6P and have never had the camera crash or freeze, never had any software issues with this phone actually. Samsung phones are pretty well known to suffer from being sluggy, this is due to their Touchwiz UI which hogs quite a bit of RAM. The HTC devices I've owned haven't had this issue. Can't speak for Huawei's own UI. The Huawei 6P uses pure Android, I don't notice any real lag issues on this phone.
Updates. If you want guaranteed software updates your best bet is a Nexus. I've noticed no major bugs on the 6P apart from a 4G bug that was specific to an Australian carrier but that was patched pretty quickly. There have been things in Android that people label as bugs that haven't been patched immediately though. Even if you choose a device that may not be updated officially you will very often be able to update via a custom ROM, custom ROMs are often developed for devices long after official support has stopped.
Customization. Android is definitely far ahead in terms of customisation. Most people find customisation via a custom ROM (a customised version of the OS, sometimes based on the stock OS, sometimes based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project or "pure Android"), sometimes based on something like CyanogenMod). A ROM will almost always have extra features and tweaks, these features are usually very well implemented and tie in very nicely with the OS. When speaking about modules you'd be referring to Xposed Modules which are used with the Xposed Framework. Xposed basically opens up a lot of customisation ability, it requires root, it can be used on a stock ROM with root or with a custom ROM. There are a plethora of modules available, too many to even begin to list, the best way to see what they can achieve is to look in our Xposed Modules section. As for root in general, you don't generally need to wait for root like you would with jailbreaking. Having root access is also far more flexible than jailbreaking, you can pretty much do anything with your phone, you have full access to the otherwise blocked system partition. Root methods will vary from device to device but you'll usually need an unlocked bootloader. The easiest devices to root and modify are the Nexus devices, they're designed to be tinkered with, development phones first and foremost.
Apps. In the early days of Android, and even up until a few years ago, the Play Store really lacked in terms of availability and quality. The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in both areas though, there's a wide variety available and the quality has become top notch.
In summing up, it looks like the worries you have are misconceptions commonly held by Apple users.
As a former board level apple technician who used the first ever apple products in kindergarten nearly 30 years ago, I must say I can't even use an iPhone. With all respect, most of your thoughts are not accurate.

Why are there no Roms?

I'd like to get to as close to vanilla as possible. Not a fan of Samsung's ui or bloat. I'm coming from the tab s1 which had some pretty good roms. There are none for this device and it's almost 6 months old. I would make one myself but lack the necessary skills
Most of the newer top end Samsung Tablets get very little developer support since they cost so much. Happens with every new tablet having people asking where the developer support is for it. Samsung newer UI much nicer and any vanilla roms would take away most of the functionality that makes the tablets great. Apparently the S5e has some dev support.
Problem is Samsung seems to be super slow with there updates for the S7.
I've owned the S7+ SM-T970 for like just a week and I'm already feeling impatient waiting still running off the Oct. update while I keep hearing about about UI 3.0 update hitting there flagship phones.
Do you think at some point down the road when or before OEM support ends we can look forward to some working roms or Treble GSI options ?

Not everyone gets the update at the same time (don't know how they handle when and who should receive the update). I only got a November update a few days ago (though some claimed to have already gotten it) and it offered few improvements. The tablet still feels the same as usual.
As one must choose between custom ROMs and Knox (especially warranty), I'm currently at a loss myself, and for the time being I haven't heard of anyone trying (or succeeded in) booting a GSI on S7/S7+ probably because of this, although it's theoretically possible (again thanks to Treble). At least we now have TWRP... it might be better if one day custom kernels become available.
So far this is the only tablet I know that can offer 120Hz display. My current phone (Razer Phone 2 which is also 120Hz-capable) still doesn't have a specialized ROM but I can already run GSIs on it with adequate performance. For new devices, going for GSI might be easier, but performance-wise it still has a way to go compared to specialized ROMs.
Think it has to do with the fact that snapdragon is locked on samsung

Why is there so little ROM development for the MTK variant???

I am genuinely dissapointed in how little development the mediatek variant has gotten since the past 5 years.
I remember back when there was only one AOSP ROM in the MTK development forum, while the snapdragon variant was churning out new ROMs every minute. The last time I checked was 2018, and it had gained a few more ROMs but they were riddled with bugs.
Today, nearly 4 years later, I come back to the MTK development forum expecting to see lots of Android 10 ROMs, maybe even Android 11 ROMs, and if not, then Android 9 ROMs at the very least.
Still no ROMs.
It's exactly like how I remembered. Completely barren, like a ghost town. Not even updates to the old ROMs. How come? I'm pretty sure it's not that hard? Helios X20 should be no problem for ROM development. Man, even during a time like the pandemic there is still no development.
This is truly sad. The MTK variant is much more faster than the SD265 variant so I am dissapointed to see so little development for it. I hope to see that maybe 2022 someone will finally develop new ROMs for the people who still have the phone.
