DIY Android Enclosure Kit - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have an Ematic tablet with a smashed digitizer and screen. I couldn't find any replacement parts for it online and it wasn't worth the effort. But it got me thinking .....
Is there like an Android casing/ enclosure that one can buy to build my own Android box? the tablet is still pretty functional and other than the screen/ digitiser it is still operational.
Has anyone ever built an Android case or is there some kind of android enclosure kit one can buy?

Jetstream and accessories for sale

Hi
I've been following this forum since I got my jetstream last year. Its a great tablet, but I've felt let down by the lack of spot from HTC and I found myself using the tablet less and less as my work circumstances have changed. I have also acquired a 7 inch tablet which is more productive.
So I've decided to sell my jetstream and accessories. I am based in the UK, but will ship anywhere provided you cover the transport costs. I have:
One jetstream. Slight cosmetic dent on the back, but in full working order. Screen is flawless as I had a screen protector on from the day of purchase until last week.- £220 with free charger
One official HTC US wall charger still in box - £10
One scribe pen, with plastic stripped from the tip, but still functioning - £20
One red TPU official HTC case - £10
I want to make sure that it goes to a good home, or can be put to use in the quest for root access.
well, that's too bad.
the forum is collecting money to get a device going to Germany, but the price you're asking is about twice the sum we've got (and also more expensive than any other jetstream for sale on-line that i've seen).
at the moment we've got 240$. that is close to the ebay asking price..keep in mind that for a lower sum - we can have a deal in a few hours.
Yeah, the asking price is a bit over the top, to put it lightly.
Stylus is too expensive as well.
Nevertheless, good luck selling them.

If you still have the Jetstream, may I suggest that you unload it on eBay. You could get a great price, as they are now going for between 240.00 and as high as 480.00

Cheap Android phone with removable casing?

I'm looking for a cheap Android phone I can pull apart and use the internals for various DIY projects. Does anyone know of any? I'd strongly prefer to keep it under $60 USD, and it'd be best if I could completely separate the internals from the casing of the phone. Super bonus points if it uses hardware buttons (and thus has a smaller digitizer) and can run CyanogenMod.

Keyboard Folio / Case Available?

Anyone got any leads on a keyboard folio / case for the tablet? I think it would be the icing on the cake for me. I'm looking to get the LTE version and replace my qwerty phone which I use 95% of the time as a pocket computer rather than phone anyways.
eBay and Amazon don't have anything yet from what I can see.

The only worthwhile thing you're likely to find for quite some time is this. And it's quite pricey as well. Sadly.

I'm honestly not concerned with the price of that item. I understand I'm in a niche realm, and am willing to pay for the features I want. Thank you for the recommendation, I've got it bookmarked for whenever the LTE version hits the stores.
If you do not mind a stand alone keyboard, you could always get something like this

Thank you for the suggestion, but I was thinking more along the lines of the previous recommendation. I'm sure alot of people don't understand, but I'm very attached to my qwerty slider phones, and am looking for a modern solution to this. For the life of me, I can't understand why in a geek driven market, more people aren't using their smart phones or tablets in IT and Engineering roles for quick code changes, responding to on-call support tickets without having to tote around a full laptop and wait to boot up, etc.. The clothing I wear has large enough cargo pockets for an 8" tablet, so if I could get one that fits with a keyboard, I'd have my next device.
Thanks
Shield tablet wireless keyboard folio-case - another option
Yeah I use mobile like that too - for everything, including gaming.
So I found a wireless KEYBOARD FOLIO CASE reviewed by someone else today and haven't tried it yet but here's the info on it (I am cross posting this data on the keyboard-case threads for this Shield tablet, on xda here, in case people find it useful):
- I came across another wireless case option (by ZAGG, it's pricey but looks very good) from a youtube post about case options for the nVidia Shield Tablet, see:
Cannot post a url here, however here's the info to be sure it's the same video I'm referring to:
v=Obs3tK8onYQ
posted title is "Nvidia Shield tablet case options"
date posted was oct 16 2014
the poster id is wr3ckn89
- I only just saw it today & cannot report my experience yet; The zagg website can show you the local retailers that carry their stuff. Only see 1 seller so far on amazon, with ridiculous wait time, and another with a 2nd 8" model specified for samsung... The zagg site does not yet list nVidia Shields, but they have an 800 number. After looking at the website, I called Zagg customer support & talked to a real person who knew the product.
- Specific model: There is only one model that fits the new nVidia Shield tablet 8", with suitable cutouts etc. - it is the "AUTOFIT" for 8". The other model for 8" tablets won't be right.
- You can find it at retailers, but you can get a 10% discount by calling them to order directly
- It ain't cheap, but it has a 1 year warranty and tech support.
- The keyboard is not backlit (they only have one model of their wireless keyboard cases that does have a backlit keyboard at this time) - BUT they are working on backlit keyboards for their other models including the AutoFit, yay.
Zagg Autofit 8"
So I went to best buy and picked up the Zagg Autofit 8" and it's such an exact fit you would think it were an aftermarket device specifically for the shield. Pairs up nice, and does what you would expect from a bluetooth keyboard. As noted in the video review that was linked above, the stylus is not accessible, and for the most part, neither is the power button. I'll probably be using a file to shave a small amount of the case down so I can access both items.
Just to be clear, the stylus is in no way accessible without detaching the tablet partially. The power button, for my sized hands, is not accessible. Unfortunately, I did not have the luck of the video reviewer in being able to use it with fingertips. Must be these giant paws of mine.
I've also paired it up with the Razor Orochi, and can now play MMO's remotely using my tablet. Looks great, full features. etc.. :victory:
maybe the Belkin keyboard would be useful?
http://www.belkin.com/uk/F5L112-Belkin/p/P-F5L112/
however, it's a separate thing rather than converting the tablet into a mini laptop
my wife has one of these keyboard cover/cases with a slot so it becomes a stand
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TECHGEAR®-Bluetooth-Wireless-Keyboard-Samsung/dp/B00FRHKRO0/ref=sr_1_1
that one is specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Note, there are variants for other tablets such as Nexus 7 and others, but I couldn't find one for the Shield tablet
looking too
while looking for some nexus 9 accessories i came up with this
DETROIT IV KEYBOARD from portdesign dot com
maybe it could fit on a nvidia shield too ?
hope it helps
Sometimes those cheap ones from ebay work very well
I had gotten this little usb keyboard for (probably) $19 a few years ago for my Nexus 7, but it fits the Shield Tablet like a glove. Makes it a mini laptop. Has a sleep key and it just works perfectly with usb otg adapter! I'm delighted!

Customer service on a Tab4 10plus on a keyboard/case

Hi
I purchased a Tab4 10plus with a bluetooth keyboard case. One of the plastic clips that holds the case to the table broke the second time I used it. I have gone over the Lenovo website carefully and can't figure out how to file a warranty claim. Does anyone have information on how to file a claim? The website seems to be structured to discourage claims.
Thanks
John
Finally got hold of support for the keyboard case. They offered to sell me a replacement at full price. Claimed it was abused and that was the best they could do. I intend to send it back for a refund. This will be the only and the last Lenovo product that I purchase.
I have the keyboard case for 6 months, that plastic clip wouldn't break easily, but I think you could buy a replacement unit for around 10 bucks, why not search on eBay ?

Question Constant problems with the Folio Case

Hello guys
I have recurring problem with the Folio Case for our Edge 30 Pro.
I'm talking about fabric case from Motorola, with Folio windows for AOD option, and stylus + stylus back pocket for wireless charging it.
I use Moto since May 2022. Until now, I have second Folio Case, given by my seller. Both of them have same issue, cracking corners and loose holding to Phone themself.
In this case, I want to ask you:
[1] Do you use your Motorola Folio Cases?
[2] If yes, do you recognize same or similar issue to mine?
Actually I have Open discussion with Motorola/Lenovo Europe about guaranty process by "factory defect" or "material defect in product". See, what will I can do.
Please, share your Xperience
Best regards for best comunnity
JacobJakub
Hello!
Yes, same issue here. I reached the Lenovo/Moto support and they refunded me.
Then I purchased a new one, and I'm extra careful with it. I never extract the device from it, since I guess the corners crack when removing/inserting the device multiple times.
Would be nice to find a 3rd party folio case with a Stylus holder!
BTW, did you notice a slow wireless charging with the Folio case, or is it just my impression?
Thanks!

Hi @dielle27
Thanks for you reply. Actually I can't get refund, becuase My Edge 30 Pro was sold me in one-pack, as one position in invoice. Well, in this case, refund amount is undetermined. Bad
I want to buy a new one so much... but, in my country, Folio Case isn't able to separate Sale.
Anyway, I don't know if this solution will help, because I was very careful with actual 2st. of Folio cases, and it crack happened. I never extract Edge from case too, without serious reason, only once when I change Case to a new one.
And you have absolutely right, there should be 3rd party option to buy other case with a Stylus holder, maybe made from other, more elastic material, not that hard as a original one.
PS. I can't tell you anything about slow wireless charging, becuase I only use wire charging. Only my Moto Stylus use wireless charging while in holder, of course
Best regards and thank you for reply @dielle27
Take Care

Same here. Got my phone and folio two weeks ago, now three corner are cracked, from using the phone lightly around the house. I got the phone and case directly from Lenovo Sweden, trying to get hold of them to resolve this.
In Australia I can't find the folio case anywhere.
Quick update.
After tons of email and light-years of discussion with my local district of Motorola, and escalate this to father-company, Lenovo, I get warranty ticket month ago, send my full damaged and useless Folio case to company, and yesterday, without any announce, I get new, shiny and tasty Folio Case for Edge 30 Pro!
Corners seems a little thicker, but I'll see how long it hold in one piece this time. Wish me years, this time
