Audio Playback - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
So I've come across an annoying issue, which is why audio plays back differently on different ROMs. For example, I'm currently on miui 8, and the playback volume gets loud to where the bass is distorted (using viper4android). Now if I have the same setup on a different ROM, the audio seems to be suppressed(namely, the bass). So I've been searching to see why this is so, but no results. Clearly I know it has nothing to do with hardware, and this is a software thing. So my question is, how do I fix this? (Without installing an equalizer or volume Booster)
Thanks!
If I need to be more specific as to what I'm talking about, lemme know.

Anyone?

What type of roms you flash :Roms based on AOSP or other modified like funtoch, miui ?
For aosp like roms stick to a sound mod (divinebeats, aural maximizer etc.) It will provide same audio experience i hope..

Yeah I use a sound mod for aosp roms and miui. (I'm on MIUI) Issue I'm facing is that there seems to be a cap on the volume after I increase it past 75%. I've tried to look for a file called "audio_mixer.xml" but such file doesn't exist.

So I've tried volume boosters and other players, and the limit is still apparent. Also this is a software thing, because MIUI doesn't have the issue, but other roms do

Sound problems with 30 step mod

Does anyone have problems with the volume 30 step mod? Like you would keep upping the volume and the volume would sometimes increase and decrease? It's hard to explain but you'll know what I mean if you have it.
Would the original 2.3.5 framework.jar work for Darkside rom?
Does anyone have this original framework.jar or maybe even the original darkside framework.jar unmodded?
Thanks.

Some people said they have problem with poweramp.
Try other music app like google music app or playerpro.
Its a problem with poweramp only as far as I have experienced. You can go to its settings and uncheck direct volume to fix it but that makes poweramp sound quality a bit bad.
I switched to playerpro; problem solved.
Well that sucks that I can't use Poweramp, because I actually paid for it.
Guess I have to disable direct volume since all of Nottaches latest ROMs support this mod.
I'll check out playerpro.
Will this problem ever be addressed? Can't seem to find a solid player that supports FLAC.

[Q] CM10 audio problems

I use the CM10 from Droid Basement and I have the following problems with audio:
1- When using headphones, minimum volume is too loud. When I increase the volume, it goes up only a few steps, and then stays on the same level until maximum volume on the slider.
2- When recording videos with the camera, only left channel of audio is recorded. It probably should merge both left and right since it's mono.
Anyone else having those problems? I work with audio and video a lot and this is a very annoying problem present since the first version I installed of this CM10.
I use P7500.
The first problem is an all around JB bug I think. I had it on AOSP, AOKP, and CM on my s2.

as for recording, i havent experienced it.
******POTENTIAL WORKAROUND*******
you might want to try the A1 kernel as it includes VooDoo sound. that might work..
1. make sure you get the cm version. it works well for most but i cant get it work.... it freezes me up as soon as my homescreen loads. if you wanna try it.......
2.make sure you have pershoots 11/19 kernel on your sd card so you can flash back if you run into the same problem...
A1 Kernel READ CAREFULLY---- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833136
Pershoots 3.1.10 (11/19) Kernel ---- http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2906
good luck...report back =)
I am having the same issue. I tried installing beats audio, but it didn't change the volume problem, it did make the sound a little better though. I am hoping this issue is fixed in a later version of cm10.
Also, I am having an issue (i posted it in the forum with no response) of my lockscreen being stuck in landscape mode, even when auto rotate is on. Does anyone else have this same issue?

This has already been fixed in cm10.1 for tab 10.1 and is included in the nightlies.
My problem isn't the same as the OP, but title is the same: CM10 audio problems.
I would absolutely LOVE to use this ROM. I've tried cyanogen on many occasions and been very impressed. My only downfall with CM9 and CM10 was the audio. On CM9, my headphone volume would always reset to a low volume when a new song played. The only way I could find to fix this was via the DSP manager wm989 tab (or something similar) and changing the amplifier level, then changing it back. I never followed up to see if others were having the same problems, so I'm sure it is an issue that was already resolved. I eventually dumped the ROM for another because of the problem, BUT....I digress.
My current problem is on CM10. I love the clean look, I love the speed, the customization....EVERYTHING.....except the audio. I just noticed it a bit earlier while trying to play Youtube videos; the speaker volume was extremely low. I don't see any amplifier settings on the speaker tab of DSP manager. I have audio manager / Hide it pro installed, but all those volumes are at max. I went so far as to remove DSP manager from the system/app folder....but that did nothing useful that I can tell (aside from giving trebuchet a forced close). I installed Beats Audio, but that didn't help. I'm at a loss, and freely admit that I'm struggling to figure out how to resolve this. Would someone please assist? I'll gladly post logs if necessary.....just tell me how to post them. I really want this ROM to work, because it is almost perfect aside from this problem.

Video Recording Sounds are way to low...

I tried sending my gf a video to cheer her up,and noticed that the sounds are entirely too low during playback. I seem to see this problem on AOSP/CM based ROMs. I have no idea if the issue exists on sense ROMs. I tried cranking the sound using DSP Manager, but that didn't work.

Audio leaking from headphones to speaker

As tittle says, if you are listening to anything via headphones, and you receive a call, or adjust the volume of ring or alarm via sound config menu, your music will leak as soon the call stops, or the audio adjust rings out.
this can be very embarassing and annoying, as i tried with different headphones and a lot of roms (miui 8stable/beta, miui 9,aosp/Los based, xiaomi.eu and on top of that, different kernels)
(this is different from audio leak when you take a screenshot or use camera when you are on customs, though some roms already fixed it)
Try to reproduce it by yourself by putting some music and putting up a fake call with some APP from play store, or adjusting volumes from settings sound tab.
if you have this problem, comment below.
As i'm pretty annoyed with this, and cant fix it, i want to know if are more ppl with this same problem
Edit: after trying multiple times, ONLY stock stable miui (8.2.10) doesn't have this problem, would be nice if we could fix this on customs and i would be willing to help.

Equalizers dropping volume, is there a fix?

Hi everyone, as stupid as it sounds, after many years of using android I just noticed that using equalizers ( and i've tried many of them ) causes the volume to drop. I have discovered that this is standard behaviour since android lowers everything by -6dB to avoid clipping when setting frequencies to +6dB.
Since my phone can't really drive my headphones much, is there a way to bypass this behaviour without using apps or rooting the phone?
Note that the maximum Volume is limited by the hardware. So the only way to have equalizing at maximum Volume is to lower the overall volume. You may be able to work around this by using an audio player that ships its own audio library or has an amplification function. Maybe BlackPlayer works. Note that this will only change the behavior of the music player and that you may experience clipping.
If you want to do changes for all apps there is no way around a custom kernel (or rooting at least) that I am aware of.
The thing is that the stock presets inclued for example in my JBL Headphones app work fine, but as soon as i try to modify one of them the volume drops. This is true for other equalizers too, for example the stock samsung one. It has something to do with how the personalization is handled i guess.
I am currently using a rooted phone with MyAndroidTools to check inside the databases to see if i can find something to tweak but no luck so far.
