Photo of the stars at night - Nexus 6P General

Hi!
These days I tried to take a photo of the stars with different apps and only the original app of camera is giving me the best results.
When I take the photo using the HDR+, and then go fast to the gallery, before the process is completed, I can see a photo full of stars. if I take a screenshot, the stars disappear. Maybe, next time I'll try to take a photo of the screen with other camera.
When the HDR+ process is completed I can't see any stars.
Anybody knows how to stop this process and get the photo with stars or maybe change the HDR+ processing to remove the noise but not the stars?
I know, It's strange, but I can give proofs if no one experimented the same. Perhaps, all the white points are noise but seems like stars...
Thanks in advance.
PD: I thought that in the screenshots there would be stars, but I didn't checked them until I started to write this post. Maybe at night I could repeat the process and take photos of the screen.

Could be the camera app, I'd recommend using camera nx. It is definitely the best camera/camera mod out.

I downloaded yesterday the NX mod, used to take the photos and I got the same result. (Auto or HDR+)

Try a different camera app then? Maybe Footej or open camera.

I also tried FV-5 camera but with same result. So, I wonder if someone could take a photo of the stars (with any kind of quality)
I'm going to take a photo of the screen as I said before, then you can know better what I mean.

Wasn't there an option to disable HDR ?

Yes! Of course, but then I can't get that preview image in which I can see the stars

Use Manual Camera and shoot RAW. Anything else probably treats the stars as noise and eliminates them.

Ok guys, thanks for your help, but.. case closed.
It's just noise, here are the photos of the sky. One is the preview (HDR+ processing) with white dots and the second one is only black, because there weren't any stars at that time in the sky.

Thanks again

[Q] Broken refreshing big pictures in gallery

Hi,
onthe firs step I'm sory for my english.
Last time I change my android 2.3 to ICS alpha but it don't work. When I go back to before configuration (android 2.3 with flashtool), and when I go to galery to see my pictcures everythings was fine, but when i tap and chose photo ( i take the photo before with this phone) it was refresh (but only once) and focus. But when I zoom it was blurred and never refresh. On my zte blade when i change size photo and enlrage, photo refreh again and it is clear. What can i do without instaling diferent photo manager from google play.
Go the settings>apps and select clear data for the gallery app. Hope this works.
I do this, but the problem is still stay
unmount your memory card, remove it from phone, shutdown your phone, turn it on, put card back in, wait a minute or two, now check gallery.
it still not clear when size up

Hm, I just read your post once again, and go to my phone and check.
I opened my gallery, click on image, first image is blurry then it gets clear, after i pinch to zoom it gets a bit blurry but it doesn't get any clear.
So as far as I see, that's normal.
I also find it strange, but that was across all ROM's that I tried, so I think it's normal
Ah yes, I see what you mean now. Stock gallery will never show high res photos in full resolution even if you zoom in (except for camera pics) . For instance, if i have a long rage comic (10 panel+) i have never been able to read the text, even after zooming in 100%. It's a bug or on purpose built in thing. Quickpic is better anyway

In my post I was referring to camera pictures.
So in your case when you zoom camera pictures, the get blurry while zooming, but then gets clearer?

These are 2 pictures zoomed 100% in the stock gallery. 1 taken by the camera at 6MP 16:9, the other is just 1,4Mp. For the photo, I can zoom in to 100%, but for other pictures, I can't.

Oh, a long-exposure photo, this app can handle the job (long exposure shots are up to 2MP only).
hi robert, thx for the tip, i already have this app, and when you do long exposure during the day (more than 0.3 sec) picture is all white :'( over exposed :/

That's strange, it couldn't be because of the One's camera letting in more light than normal, could it? Perhaps the app is only calibrated for an "average" smartphone camera?

Are you holding your phone very, VERY firmly? If you move it, the picture will look white (also, try to use 2 sec of exposure).

Yeah, but diaphragm aperture and exposure time are two different things, so I can't understand why are you getting that results (I don't have a tripod, but holding my phone in my hands and using 5 sec of exposure, my shots doesn't look white, only a little blurred due the hand movement).
damm this is bad news for me robert
I know dude, maybe you need to modify some settings? play with them...

Nope. There is no Wide lens on Google Pixel

I tested it and it really makes the G6 camera live up to its true potential! Cant believe the difference http://imgur.com/a/blrWe
For anyone that also uses Norton, there is a conflict and Norton will flag it as maleware. You can't "trust" it and you can't dismiss the Norton notification.
Everything works for me except photosphere. It will capture a photosphere image, but it's distorted and stretched.
Despite that, the HDR+ function works so good, and I think it looks better than the LG camera.
I've tested it, result: both are good, but LG more real and google HDR+ more punchy. However I fiind LG calera better...
No matter how much 3rd party camera offers, only stock camera takes better picture.
thanks for this post! wouldn't know otherwise, i did test it and its pretty awesome!
Especially more realistic colours in low light if you can keep the camera stable. Not to be used for moving subjects.
In Daylight, the G6's camera is great by itself so i probably won't use it in those scenarios.

Left is LG Camera, Right is Google camera w/ HDR+
Real life looked very close to how the Google camera processed the image.
@dkimmortal that comparison is great! Can't believe how Google app made a difference there!
Here's my quick comparison also, difference is night and day! What's wrong with LG?
Testing it so far seems its shocking in low light? Images are so noisy, poor colour.
Sounds great, but can't even get it to install on my G6 (european).
I Download the apk, click ist to install, but just can't hit the "install" button, just "cancel".
Of course "other sources" are allowed in settings. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

You may have some app that have screen overlay on (draw over other apps) like screen rotation or f.lux. Find it and disable that permission when install this.
Tried it today in low light and its a significant improvement. Not sure about daylight so will look at that as well. Obvioulsy only works with one lens.
Mine keeps crashing sometimes when I take a photo - I think it might be due to setting the resolution at 16:9 (9.7mp) resolution. Missed a great shot as well!

Google Camera Port

Hey guys and girls.
i had an nexus 5x before i switched to the Samsung Gang (A520F)
Loved my nexus , but they used weak chips (my Nexus just died and thats when i first heard of this issue)
What i most liked bout the Nexus 5x, was its camera. HDR+ shot were really fantastic, popping colors and were awesome to look at.
lot of people liked this camera and its software, so this guy is porting the camera app to other devices.
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-customization-raw-support/?nocache=1
really awesome work. tried it few times before, but the current release is working on the Samsung A520F.
i was just glad to be able to take photos, and compared it to the standard camera app, it's way better!!
much sharper , and i did not experiment much till now, there are plenty of option to around with.. so please give it a try and share your settings.
first HDR+ that worked for me with this settings:

anyone who knows a fix for the front camera?
Didnt try the front cam, didnt realize its not working.
Dont know if the settings change anything. Iam afraid the settings dont work, hdr is not processed.
Cant tell a difference between the different settings when comparing images..
There is a problem in front camera ...when i switch to front camera i have a force stop
When i switch to front camera i have a FC, please help.Thank you.
Well yes, also FC when switch to front cam.
Other settings also seem to have no influence on the image. Sadly no processing.
Hope it will work somehow.

Try one of the updated versions from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/google-camera-hdr-b-s-g-port-version-t3659879/page22
For me it's working - at least partially. Front cam and auto HDR are broken.
One version, the installer tells me it's not suitable for my phone - an A3. It was an apk file.
Hello @SchWeinSAuG, could you please upload your APK file or tell which version you used? I've tried a few and I can't get HDR+ to work, even when using your settings.
It works but with 2 problems. The flash is out of sync and the pics are too dark compared with the normal app.
As someone said earlier, the photos don't look that different from the stock camera. I tried many parameters and got basically the same results.
Could someone tell me if the Google Camera app runs on your A5 2017 and what is the version that you use?
I downloaded an application some time ago but the HDR + did not work, nor have I obtained better results than with the stock camera.
I would like someone to tell me if the HDR + works and if the photos are better than with the stock, and also what is the configuration to do in the settings for it.
Also, I would like to know if there's any option to activate the Digital Stabilizer for the videos in the app.
If there is one that works well, put the download link, please!
Thank you very much!

B-S-G MOD settings, Manual fixed black level offset, Enable

Question Force Astrophotography mode.

Hi all, I had a modded Google camera APK for my P4 which had a force Astrophotography mode, which I have tried on my P6 and it doesn't open.
I used to use it quite a bit, enable, put a 3 second timer on it, them support it somewhere or just turn it upside down and got great pics. Anyone know of an equivalent APK for P6 please.
I too would like this for my 6 pro. Kind of sad I don't have the option for an extended shot.
Isn't that what Night Mode is for? I took a couple of shots with it the other night and it takes about 3 seconds for 1 picture too.
No, night sight is to take pictures in low level light. Astrophotography mode is to take pictures of stars, it'll take the photo for anything up to 4 minutes or more, you wouldn't get a photo like that with just night sight. I took it with my P4 and astrophotography mode.

I'm a big fan of the astrophotography feature!
That's the good thing about being able to force Astrophotography mode, you can set a timer, then lean it against something, don't need a tripod

That is great but we haven't answered the main question:
Is there a Forced Astrophotography mode, for turning on timer to 3 sec and then laying the phone down to capture the stars without tripod.
( I def. don't have a tripod, nor plan to buy one. )
Does someone know of a gcam mod yet that allows any other than stock features on a pixel 6?
How about a magisk mod for enabling other camera features such as this? ( OR full resolutions 50 Megapixels or higher? )
Not quite sure what you mean. So start the timer, lay the phone down and then how do you turn it off? I've not done astro yet but plan on it soon so I'll know more. I just today got a mini tripod for 14 bucks and it's small and stable. I just need a clear night with no lights to play around. Eclipse tonight will be too bright for that but soon.
In the camera app there are options to have the timer set to 3 sec or 10 sec (see photo)
With an option to enable forced astrophotography, and using this timer you would not have to buy anything extra... Just lay the phone face down (so the camera is facing the stars) and let the timer start the capture to get astrophotography photo.
Having done some digging I found where I got the APK from, sadly it looks like the developer no longer supports it, they stopped at P4. The name is Gcam PX, tried their latest version but kept crashing. Here is the link to the page, https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gcam-camera-px-for-google-pixel-1-2-3-3a-4.3875663/page-162
