According to GSMArena RedmiNote 3 has a ~403 DPI screen. Geekbench 4 says it's 386 PPI.
Some ROM's have a default setting of 360 DP. Some ROM's (Pure Nexus) has a setting of 401 DP. This is confusing
So what's the optimum DP setting?

5.5inch and 1920x1080 equals 401ppi i always use 401
I don't know what you guys are smoking. That 401 thing you're seeing is PPI = Pixels per inch. It's constant. You can't change it.
While DPI is different thing. It's usually a number which defines the size of UI elements on your phone. You can change it. Default DPI for our phone is 420, I guess.
401 default on NOS. Use the one you like though.
I like 400dpi.
My DPI setting is 420 DPI. Because it's more comfortable and our screen specs are same with nexus 5x.
320 dpi best for me imo
LoL. This is even more confusing. There should be a default setting, that is mathematically optimal.

does anyone on here create their own custom icons to use with desktop visualizer? I'm wondering if you know the correct pixel dimensions to use for each icon size? (1x1, 2x2, etc.) The reason I ask is because I'm trying to make some icons but when it resizes them they are always pixelated, i cant get it right. I would ideally like to size the icon pngs just right so no resizing is needed at all.
post up if you know, thanks.
hi,
did u ever get an answer to this as im only new to the whole editing thing and i cant get my icons to fit right to the borders on desktop visualiser
Not sure off the top of my head, but try finding a screenshot of somebody that has it set up, then put that image in photoshop and measure the tiles with a selection box.
My thought exactly. I know the 1x2 dimensions are 152x294...the 1x3 are 472x150. Ive had the same problem with mine for the aria phone 7 theme, you gotta play wit it an get used to how the size changes slightly when theyre done. some jus wont resize the way you want. Im trying to find out a good size for all those that dont fit well no matter how theyre resized. Ive already made my own icons(well most of them> to replace the aria wp7 icons. I think i left most of them editable....i think lol!!! BTW fireworks is super awesome for editing icons!!!

I never got an answer, but what I eventually did was used desktop visualizer in conjunction with Launcher Pro. I would use a larger size (e.g. 2x2) and resize it smaller. It turned out pretty good.

Hey guys I just thought about to set up a WallPaper collection and I just want to know which you guys think is better. The S3 screen res is 1280x720 but many ppl said 1440 x 1280 is the better one (for scrolling etc.). So what do YOU think?
Thanks in advance,
sj.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone involved in this site. The experience has been very enriching so far.
I have a Cherry Mobile Razor which I bought here in the Philippines. Specs are as follows:
- Mediatek MT6589 Quad-core Cortex A7 Processor
- PowerVR SGX 544MP
- 1GB LPDDR2
- 540x960 qHD IPS LCD Screen
- 4GB Internal Storage
-16 GB SDcard/ External Storage
- Android Jellybean 4.2.1
- 1750mAh Battery
Now, it is a sweet device for it's price point. Catch is, the screen refresh rate is locked to a snail-pace 22Hz. That's right, 22Hz. The big difference between the amount of frames the device can process and the rate it can spit images out on the screen is so big it shows as a laggy platform for a myriad of 2D applications. You can even feel the "display latency" when typing on the on-screen keyboard. The animations are fluid, but laggy response can be felt.
The question:
I wish to edit the refresh rate setting on the device and set it to about 60Hz. I am rooted and read somewhere that settings are located in the kernel. I am thinking of editing the boot.img in my device, either the manual way via ADB or through a kernel kitchen. But before I do any sort of unpacking, editing, then repacking - am I looking at this correctly?
Are there other things I need to consider and know like LCD screen specs, etc.,... ????

Hey Guys,
I'm the owner of a european S5 LTE+ (SM-G901) and I have the following problem:
There is no AOSP Custom Rom for my device around because the poularity of this "special"
device goes near zero, that meansof course there are not much devs for this device.
But today I found a Custom Rom (Cm12/5.0.2) for the Corean S5 Lte+ (SM-G906), wich has nearly the same
hardware. The only difference is that the Corean Version has a QHD-Display (1440 x 2560 pixels ~577 ppi pixel density) and 3 GB RAM, the european Version has 'just' FullHD (1080 x 1920 pixels ~432 ppi pixel density) and 2GB RAM.
I'm not an expert but also not an idiot
It would be nice if somebody could explain how to make Rom compatible with my S5+, or just can explain wich resources are responsible for those hardwarecomponents.
Heres the Rom for the Corean Version (G906):
