I recently soft-bricked my SCH I545 and have been trying to restore through Odin. I had SafeStrap installed and was running a custom rom (I don't remember which but I think it was the S5 variant) when I decided to try and upgrade it to the 7.1 rom that just came out. I got a bootloop after flashing the 7.1 and figured that I would just wipe and restore the backup but realized too late that the backup wasn't saved on the external and got wiped. I've tried a bunch of different tar files (MK2, MDK, ME7, and MI1) but they all fail at aboot.mbn which I have read means that I am trying to flash an older rom. Hence the question about the latest .tar files? Also, I can't boot into recovery (I guess I wiped that) and can only boot into Odin. When I either try to boot normally or into recovery it goes into Odin and gives me an error message saying that the firmware needs to be updated through Kies. I've been digging around for a good couple days and figured it was time to ask. Please direct me appropriately if this has already been solved elsewhere.

Ok so i had ICS passion installed then one day the rom gave me an error telling me encryption unsuccessful. So i followed the instructions to fix it, by putting the partition on the micro sd card (8gb). I then decided to flash back to stock gingerbread with odin. I thought that if I put a galaxy s international rom on the US vibrant it would work, but i was wrong so dont try that. I was stuck on a bootloop and was able to get to download mode. Then i used Odin to flash JFD for vibrant it said i passed but when i booted it did the same. Now im on KB5 and it gave me android system recovery <3e> but i have an error dev/block/mmcblk0p1.
I cannot go to menu, i can access download mode and android system recovery, i also tried to install update zip but it gave me the signature fail.
Please help me back to stock firmware or any stable version. Thank You
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278683 follow the instructions in the thread and remember to flash the bootloaders
You should just Odin back to JFD and go from there. Flashing bootloaders is dangerous, shouldn't be done lightly, but can be done with caution if needed, usually isn't.
try the 1click root method. see if that helps.
Hello,
I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy Note which had Gingerbread but could not find the OTA upgrade to ICS for some reason. It originally had ICS but flashed it back to Gingerbread since I wanted to start from scratch (using Odin). I've had numerous issues flashing it using Odin (many nand flash errors, soft brick, etc) but now I flashed it to AT&T stock, just to test if everything was working. All is good for now.
I want to upgrade it to ICS to perform the T-mo unlock trick but everytime I try to flash an Odin ICS tar, I get hit with an error at some point and the phone puts itself in Kies recovery mode (Firmware upgrade encountered an issue). Here are my questions:
1. Upon flashing an ICS tar in Odin, should I select the re-partition option in Odin (e.g. does it have a PIT file in there)? Or can I just go ahead and flash the tar file under PDA?
2. Should I do a factory wipe on top of the cache wipe in recovery before flashing an Odin tar?
3. Are there any OEM stock images/ROMs (AT&T, Bell or other) that can be flashed with a cwm/twrp recovery? All I can find are tar files, I know I can probably modify them and remove the recovery.img but would rather not as this might break things.
4. Any issues flashing through VMware Fusion on a MacBook Pro? Could this be the cause of my issues?

A few days ago I purchased a ATT i717 locked and used the TMO Radio to unlock it as described in a unlock sim thread. I then installed an ATT ROM and am actually using it with a metropcs SIM card.
I began by originally using odin to root and install touch recovery. I somehow got stuck on the SAMSUNG logo but was able to get into recovery and flash the goldie rom. Since then I have installed a kit kat rom and everything is fine.
FYI, if anyone is wondering, it was VMware Fusion causing interference - I later found a reference to it on another xda post while searching for something else but it wasn't that easy to find. I have another MacBook with Boot Camp and that one can flash through Odin without any issues. So if anyone is trying to VM their way through Odin flashing, it's a bad idea. It'll stick your phone in recovery mode. Since then I've flashed/restored many Odin files, reinstalled cwm, flashed a few roms including Custom Canadian JB, Padawan JB 4, AT&T Stock, etc.
Okay so here's the chain of events. I had hyperdrive 10 and I saw the update to 18 was out. SO I downloaded and proceeded to install. It didn't work so I went to follow the instructions to update to nc5. downloaded the new safestrap went into the safestrap menu. deleted all OS. And installed the new NC5. Went to download mode. And I kept getting PIT not found then would disconnect. Attempted to ODIN a recovery rom. Didn't work. Download a PIT. didn't work. And finally I downloaded a stock rom and it will not install on recovery mode. Please help...
EDIT: I got it to move into restore from kies mode. And I have attempted flashing multiple roms via odin. They all fail after attempting aboot. I don't know what version I was on so I'm not sure what stock rom to download/flash.
I think I found a thread that might have helped me out... Will report back in the morning if any success
I'm in the same boat, the recovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 is not working for me...
I bought phones for my parents for Christmas. Managed to find two BNIB MDK Verizon GS4s on eBay. I currently have an S4 MDK that I rooted myself with no problems.
I went through using the Odin method to downgrade the kernel to root the device, just like I did on mine. When I downloaded ROM Manager, for some reason it wouldn't allow me to flash CWM, so I used terminal emulator to install it using the Loki method found here:
http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-r...on-att-or-verizon-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sch-i545/
After I booted into CWM recovery, I wiped everything (didn't nandroid :/) before installing a stockish debloated ROM - BoneStock 1.1.4 which is what I've been running. When I went to install The ROM zip from my ext sd card, the card wouldn't mount. I can't get my device to mount at all in recovery so I can't even sideload anything.
One thing that I may have done wrong is not flashed the second CWM file to upgrade the recovery to CWM v6.0.4.7.
Currently the phone will not boot passed the Samsung logo. Is there anyway to flash a different version of CWM through recovery? Or would that even fix my problem? I can get into download mode fine. I can still boot into CWM but it's useless at this point.
Could someone PLEASE help me! I feel like I've made a stupid mistake somewhere.
I check the CWM recovery version on my device and currently I'm running version 6.0.3.2. Could that be the reason I keep getting the error unable to mount the sd card? Does anyone have a current version of CWM recovery that's flashable over ODIN? I'm thinking that's my last resort before attempting to restore the MDK TAR.

MDK TAR sounds like the only way to go. Make sure to get the MDK one though!
Theoretically, there are other ways, such as flashing a new recovery from your current one, but with Loki, that would probably be harder than what its worth.
Does anyone have any clue why I wasn't able to use ROM manager to flash CWM recovery?
ODIN MDK TAR file worked. I still don't know what went wrong and why CWM recovery couldn't mount my SD card so I could flash a ROM.
Hey guys, I dug out my old i605 the other day and wanted to update to the latest cm nightly for the device. Not realizing I was about to do something wrong, I downloaded an app called Flashify and installed the latest cm recovery through the app. Well this made my device boot loop. So now, I need to flash a working recovery to my device to fix it. After googling for a bit, I learned that I need Odin to do so. So I am now using Odin v3.10.7. But, I cannot get any recovery tars I've found to flash. They all come back as failed. I'm at a loss here and hope someone knows how to get this thing back up and running.
My PC is on Windows 10 and I do have the latest Samsung drivers installed. On my Note 2 in download mode, it says my current binary is Samsung Official and my system status is custom. What I do not know is what recovery and firmware my i605 was on previously.
Thanks guys
EDIT: I guess what I'd really like to do is get the device back to stock rooted.
Edit 2: Fixed the problem. Uninstalled the Samsung drivers and reinstalled them and changed to Odin 3.07. Ended up restoring the device with the unlocked bootloader restore here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264
