Hi there!
I just bought for a relative a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x from a well known Chinese seller and wanted to ask you guys how to determine if my device has the official Xiaomi Rom installed or something else.
I would like to have the official Global Stable Rom / unlocked and with OTA updates (localized in Italian).
This is the info I see in the "About phone" page :
Model number: Redmi Note 4x
Android version: 6.0.1 MMB29M
Android security patch level: 2016-12-01
MIUI version: MIUI Global 8.1 | Stable 8.1.10.0.0 (MCFMIDI)
Baseband version: -8953_GEN_PACK-1.7628 9.1.76815.3
Kernel version: 3.18.24-perf-g37635be
Build number: MMB29M
Thank you!
8.1.10 is not an official xiaomi rom. You'll need to unlock the bootloader (check if already unlocked), and flash the global miui rom.
Thanks for the reply empy16.
But to unlock the bootloader I have to contact Xiaomi: should I just follow the steps described in the following thread: http://en.miui.com/thread-565784-1-1.html ?

First of all, check if the bootloader is already unlocked. Some of the chinese phones with a tampered MIUI came with the bootloader already unlocked. Use this procedure: http://en.miui.com/thread-279195-1-1.html
If the bootloader is still locked, use the link you provided to unlock it. And yes, you will have to apply for a permission, which might take up to 10*days.
Just flashed it thank you for the pointers!
Have a great weekend!

The official bootloader unlock guide here http://en.miui.com/thread-202290-1-1.html states that "If you're using Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm version or Mi 5, you can unlock on MIUI Global Stable ROM"
1- Did anybody succeed in doing so?
2- After unlocking the official way, can I still flash the latest global stable? (assuming that point 1 is not possible and I have to flash the china dev) I read warnings everywhere not to do so to avoid boot loop, is this warning valid even when unblocked through the official way?
3- If I flash the latest global, will my bootloader get locked again?
I would like to unlock my bootloader to prepare for CM13 and in the meantime I want to keep running the global stable ROM.
Many thanks

I'm on Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm.
1 - For me, it only worked with the Global Dev ROM. You can switch from Global Stable without erasing any data though. I had the usual "never works on the first try"-stuff though, so I tried a lot of things and I can't say if being on Global Stable was one of the main issues.
2 - I read similar things, but also that you can OTA update without any problems when you are officially unlocked. I think the posts warning of bootloops concern the unofficial unlock only and it will happen if you forget to delete emmc_appsboot.mbn before flashing an official ROM.
3 - Shouldn't happen. Haven't tried it yet, but what would be the point of Xiaomi locking the bootloader again, just because you changed ROM versions.
So, #2 and #3 is guess work on my site. Hope someone else can chime in and give definitive answers. As of #1, hope it helps to know that Global Dev works fine. Or was there any reason you wanted to stay on Global Stable?
As the title said, I got a chinese Redmi 3 Pro (from this site) and I want to install the current global stable rom.
I asked xiaomi the unlock code and I got it (as stated in the italian directions from the website where I bought it), but before starting I just want to check that I was doing the right thing and ask a few questions.
I have some previous experience with my Mi4i, but better safe than sorry.
I will unlock the device with MiFlashUnlock, and after that I will boot twrp (fastboot boot twrp.img) and wipe System, Data and Boot partitions and then install the global stable rom from this link.
Is this correct or I will need to do other things?
What is the difference between the official global stable and the xiaomi.eu version? If I choose the xiaomi.eu version will I have ota updates or I will need to reflash manually the updates?
In the xiaomi forum there are threads about the MIUI8 global stable, but the download link point to the MIUI7. I will get the OTA update after flashing MIUI7?
Thanks

man that link contains official global rom and if you flash it you will either bootloop or you will loose your bootloader and it will be locked again.so download global stable from xiaomi.eu if you want unlocked bootloader and global stable rom.am doing the same.you should be on china dev rom to unlock bootloader.after that boot into fastboot mod and use miunlock to unlock bootloader.then use miflash app.its on xda.its a windows app.use it to install twrp then download your stable rom from xiaomi.eu and go to recovery.wipe data and system.and flash that rom then flash latest super su 2.76 then you will be on global stable with root.enjoy
Jokerpapu
Can u add the links in please
I am very step for step as pentathal posted but you now mention other links so I am a bit lost
you need to go to miui here and follow the instructions.
to unlock the device you need to be on a developer rom, china or global.
Hi,
I brought redmi 3 from someone this evening and im having trouble already at unlocking bootloader. First of all here is my device information:
Model number: Redmi 3
Android version: 5.1.1 LMY47V
Android security patch level: 2016-04-01
Miui version: MIUI Global 7.3 | Stable 7.3.2.0.0(LHPCNDD)
Baseband version: M8936FAAAANUZM-1.41886.1_V011
Kernel version: 3.10.49-perf-g6241083
I notice one thing after enable developer option and tick enable oem unlock i dont get option for unlock status. So i try to flash global developer rom with miflash (fastboot) but it give me an error. I try update rom from updater app but no success either. Please tell me how to do this. Or do i have to wait for a sms conformation from xiaomi? Sorry for my bad english.
If you want to unlock bootloader officially, you need to be on official rom, either dev rom or stable rom. Your current rom aren't official, its a fake vendor rom. You need to flash official rom from edl mode using miflash before attempting unlocking bootloader the official way.
But if you want to unlock the bootloader unofficially, just flash a modified bootloader from here in edl mode using miflash. No need to be on official rom, no need to request for unlock permission, no need to wait for sms confirmation.
Depends on you which route you want to take.

Hello everyone..
I recently got my Redmi Note 4 SD, its the 4/64GB variant and the device is classy I must say. However, since the last update, my device is having RAM issues and above all, heating issues. What I'm trying to know is can I flash the outdated version via fastboot method without unlocking the bootloader?
I am on the 8.1.15.0 version (Indian Variant) and I have the 8.1.10.0 version, I just want to rollback to it.
I hope there must be a way to flash stock ROMs without unlocking the bootloader. And also, if I unlock the bootloader and flash the stock ROM, will the bootloader get locked again or would stay unlocked?
A step by step guide would be highly appreciated.
ThankYou
Isn't there anyone who can help me out with this?
You need to unlock bootloader to downgrade or flash fastboot ROMs. You cannot downgrade from Updater app
Hi, im on 9.5 global. I want to upgrade to miui 10 global dev (without unlocking bootloader). It will be problem later with unlock bootloader and install xiaomi eu? (anti rollback policy?)

Fastboot method is for you, and there is no need to worry about ARB, and after unlocking bootloader you'll also be able to install xiaomi.eu!
