I have the mtk 64 gigabyte Redmi note 4. I wiped the internal memory and now it's broken... Anyone have a thought about fixing it?
Fixed: I hate MTK I think... I had to fix the contexts in TWRP after the wipe.
And so in Snapdragon version. I tried factory reset, thinking that it would only reset settings, data and apps. But it did really erase everything. I just realized its system is installed exactly on internal storage, and not being separated from personal files' storage.

Hi
Guess the question is relevant to all devices Anroaid.
I searched and read in many places but I still did not fully understand how is the internal sd card is devided, what each part contains and how to "clean up" things that are not relevant to more
My Galaxy S1 device internal card size is 8G.
Checking system -> storage indicates it is devided to two: 1.48 Internal storage and a 5.64 USB storage.
The first question is where is a almost 1G to complete to the total of 8G?
I understand that the internal storage contains the operating system and applications installations.
however,I can see the the usb storage also contains folders of past and current installed applications, of course in addition to music, pictures etc.
Now I want to install a new ROM and clean everything that is not nessacary.
I understand that when installing a new rom the internal storage actually completely cleared and re-installed. Is it true?
What about usb storage? Whether and how to re-format it? Is it necessary at all to do that?
Thanks

Installing a new ROM won't clear all the internal storage. You have to do it manually. In stock, it is recommended to do a factory reset after the first boot. While in custom ROM you have to wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvic cache before the installation.
It is not necessary to clear the data in USB storage.

Lately the device has strange behavior every once in a while - and I would like to clean it as much as possible
I am using custom rom, hopefully wiping everything will do the job.
Yet, I do want to clean the internal storage as well.
What can be done regarding that? can I format it?
If yes - how, and how to recreate the standard folders tree?
If not - what can be done?

wiping data will clear your system memory, ie app data
If you want to go deep, there are options available in CWM recovery under Mounts and storage menu to format /system, /Data, /Cache, /sdcard and even External sdcard,

This is the thing...
I am trying to understand what the purpose of each option - and eventually what are the steps the order, to achieve the cleanest possible device with the rom I want to flash
I actually just noticed that in the previous post I wrote Internal storage rather than USB storage. Anyway..I need please some more accurate information.
Is that possible to format only the USB storage?
Or is there a way to safely remove / clean / wipe old stuff, like applications' folders that are not in used anymore, and other things I am not aware off?
tx
Hello,
I am planning to do a twrp backup before i install a custom rom on my international (india) samsung galaxy s6 edge.
But as it does not have any external memory, the backup would be stored on the internal memory, so when i do factory data reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, wont the backup be lost ? And is there any way to access the s6 edge internal memory on a pc if the phone does not turn on ?
No. A factory reset wipes cache, dalvik cache and data. It does not wipe internal storage. If you wipe internal storage through the wipe options in TWRP, then you'll lose your TWRP backup. You can always copy your TWRP backup to a OTG USB device or a laptop and side load it later on.
A PC can detect the S6 in download mode. From there you can reload the stock firmware via Odin or Samsung Smart Switch. However you wouldn't have access to the contents of the internal storage.

Hello all
I have a rooted 16gb OPX. It said that I had the storage full, so I checked the storage settings, and the "other" part, the one that is not nor apps nor pictures etc... (i don't know if im making myself clear or not). To solve that, I've restored it to factory, but after reseting it I still had 8.5 gb of space taken, so I decided to go to twrp and wiping dalvik / art cache, system, data, internal storage and cache. And right now my OPX is stuck at OP logo. That made me think, and I may have erased the OS?
By the way, sorry for my english, not a native speaker
Thank you

Yes, when you wiped "system", this wipes the partition where the main part of the operating system is located. You should be able to connect to a PC while in TWRP and move a rom over to the phone to flash and get booted again.
So, i recently installed and uninstalled a few custom roms on my lenovo k4 note running android 6.0.
After i accidently installed a new rom without wiping the dalvik and cache of the previous one , my internal storage has suddenly become full . My phone has 16 GB internal storage and before installing the rom i had around 6 GB free whereas after the installation , i have literally less than a 100 MB left and i cannot install anything . I wiped the internal storage completely and it's showing there are no files on my internal storage but it's still full. Can someone please help me to fix this problem??
Hey there! Try to reinstall your stock ROM with one PC

System is where the OS is installed, Cache is a different partition as well as internal storage. So not wiping Dalvik/cache & Cache should not affect internal storage.
Check these TWRP FAQ pages:
https://twrp.me/faq/whattowipe.html
https://twrp.me/faq/datamedia.html <<< especially the part about Format Data.
In TWRP we also have a wipe internal storage option that rm -rf's the media folder and a "Format Data" option that formats to recreate the entire file system in case something goes completely wrong or to remove device encryption.

Can't you connect to a computer while in Recovery & delete some files in internal storage?
What is your recovery's name & version exactly?
And @IsaqueLNC is right: if everything else fails install the stock firmware & you may get lucky.

Hello everyone.
I lost 8GB of internal storage after a bad flash. I tried installing a custom ROM but flashing got stuck for a few hours, so I powered off the phone.
After re-downloading the ROM and reinstalling in TWRP, my phone now only shows 24GB of internal storage, even in TWRP.
Wiping the phone (advanced wipe with everything checked, format Data or Factory Reset) didn't solve the problem. Neither did flashing an original Xiaomi fastboot ROM.
Any ideas what else I could try?

8 gb is used by system partition.
Nothing to worry

Same with me.
In a 32 gb model the 8 gb is used for internal partitioning. 3 gb for system files. 1 gb for cust partition (used by miui only which the dev was able to use for treble support) and the remaining 3 to 4 gb is being used by internal scripting and blob files. (The files used to run android in the first place, such as boot partition and other things)
Thank you.
I flashed Lineage 14.1 and my phone now shows 29 GB of internal storage.
