[MOD] VR Virtual Reality quality fix for Nougat - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello Guys,
In previously I had some problem with Virtual Reality video playing. The problem was very simple, only 1-2 roms the quality is much sharper, than the others. Here's the original QA thread. The solution is very simple, you need to change in the build.prop the media.msm8956hw to 0 (zero) and the picture will be sharp in the apps (like Var's VR player and others which support the side by side and other playing).
I use this feature and hate to always editing after installed a new rom, so made and attached two zips. The enabler simple change to 0, the unmod switch back to 1 the media.msm8965hw tag.
This metode won't work on Marshmallow and MIUI roms, only on Nougat! Happy VR time!

Btw which VR app is good for rn3...

[HUMBLE REQUEST] Lineage + xposed + camera functionality

Hello,
I would like to ask whether it is possible to have a working build of Lineage OS with stable xposed and ideally high-speed camera with manual capabilities? If I'm not mistaken it should be possible to shoot into RAW, however I am more interested in slow-mo, ideally in style of samsung's camera, where you can choose what to make slower and it still retains sound. For now I am using sultan mod where I can shoot 120fps with sound which is good for postprocess too.
So if you have some ideas or links, I would be really happy as navigating through this forum with so many options is quite hard. Thanks!

How to have better camera on Oreo ROMs

TIP OF THE DAY
INTRO
If you don't like the camera's quality it is because the google camera app is not the best for the grand prime, actually this is the problem of all ROMs based on the pure android, isn't the image clear enough? does the image looks blurred?
I've been comparing my camera on android oreo with my another phone (both are the same model), one has the stock Android and the other one has the pure Android 8 and the differences are huge, how to work around this problem?
Well... I have researched and talked to devs about this and it turns out that the drivers of the camera are the same as the stock firmware, but the only thing what changes the quality is how the image is processed by the camera application.
So who's the one to blame? The camera app.
What is the solution?
The real solution is to use ROMs based on the stock ROM, i.e. touchwiz, but I have noticed that many people still prefer using the pure Android so this solution is not possible. There is still another way.
CyanogenMod camera and fine adjustments
That's what you read, with the 'old' Cyanogen camera app you can have better pictures.
First, install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maartendekkers.cyanapps
It's called Cyan Apps if the link isn't working.
and then...
Choose 'camera' on CM's 13 sectionNote: Don't choose the CM 14.1 version because it crashes when you start recording a video or change to frontal camera.
Download and install it.
Adjustments
Open the camera and go to settings, drag down until the last options and turn off the Denoise option, then go to the sharpness and set to the level 0 (or do whatever you think is better) and go to the picture quality and set to it 100%. The rest of the options you can leave in the default level.
Optional
You can, alternatively, with root access make this a system application and delete the other one just to have only one default camera for your ROM.
In the images attached below I want you to pay attention in the sharpness of the image and the quality, I hope you don't mind if I'm a bad photographer.
UPDATE: I know the link is broken and the reason is because the Cyan Apps has been removed from playstore, I don't know why, but you know now the secret to make the image good-looking, you have to turn off denoise option which comes by default turned on in all Samsung cameras. Find an APP that can make this for you. Best Regards
Holt sh*t dude.. it fixed my camera quality. Now the photo quality can be compared to stock cam.
Although now the photos are a little noisy and kinda looks little bad on low light..but it's really good on places with light.

Low light is always an enemy for the camera
This WILL also work on Snap-based (that's the camera included on most AOSP ROMs) cameras.

MY fist 24 Hours with MI8 (global)

Wanted to share with you some experience with the very nice phone from Xiaomi, and my first impressions are:
- Very nice look, excellent finish.
- Nice value and really high performance.
- Speedy unlock - either fingerprint or face - do not need to touch anything to get the phone unlocked via face recognition, however to enable face unlock I had to change the region of the phone to get it in options.
- very decent battery
But...
- Google assistant does not support "OK Goggle unlock" and voice control (seems not to work with all MIUI phones?)
- Widevine L3 - so NO HD Netflix or Amazon video
- Wide notch - is this the problem - anyway no notifications on top of display - so I have to pull down on top to see what is going on..?
- AMOLED display vastly inferior to Galaxy display - very washed out videos in direct compare
- Till now it seems for me impossible to implement the ported stock dialers (phone) to get the look and feel of stock Android.
- Camera disappointed me - cannot understand the DxoMark rating of 99 ??? In direct comparison with my Galaxy S8, very poor in low light, and despite OIS very shaky videos - Xiaomi desperately need EIS implementation.
- It was very tricky to implement multilingual setup, some bugs in MIUI perhaps.
- I have Xiaomi BT headset, but the sound paired with MI8 on this unit is too low. Also the call volume is a little to soft, wished the earpiece would be louder.
So, as I've stated much more negative comments, seems as not satisfied with the phone, what is not true, but these observations are really there and making some problems in real life.
And after a lot of playing I still do not know how to change the default icon look on the phone (needed for ported pixel launcher), since when applying different themes only the MIUI launcher displays new icons.
Any comments from other users?

Just a summary from another Mi8 owner:
- Google assistant does not support "OK Goggle unlock" and voice control (seems not to work with all MIUI phones?)
you complain about "ok google" doesn't work on a Chinese smartphone? Really?
- Widevine L3 - so NO HD Netflix or Amazon video
Widevine L3 was never supported on a xiaomi smartphone, nor a Mi6 nor a Mi5s. Why should a chinese phone support DRM from Netflix or amazon?
- Wide notch - is this the problem - anyway no notifications on top of display - so I have to pull down on top to see what is going on..?
did you buy the device without having seen it? Notch was known ....
- AMOLED display vastly inferior to Galaxy display - very washed out videos in direct compare
In my opinion, I love the display, it hasn't an exaggerated saturation as Samsung and its lot better than a Oneplus5T Display.
- Till now it seems for me impossible to implement the ported stock dialers (phone) to get the look and feel of stock Android.
There is no Guarantee to install google phone on every smartphone. Just for me, i've installed xiaomi.eu rom and can install the google phone dialer offically from google play store without limitations.
- Camera disappointed me - cannot understand the DxoMark rating of 99 ??? In direct comparison with my Galaxy S8, very poor in low light, and despite OIS very shaky videos - Xiaomi desperately need EIS implementation.
Can't really understand this point, i've compared this cam round about two weeks with a Huawei P20 Pro and JUST FOR ME: the Mi8 cam is better, the AI on the Huawei device is horrible and in low light situations i can't see no advantages too. Maybe the P20 pro is better in some conditions BUT compared with the price the MI8 is more better !
Here is my comparison of P20 Pro and Mi8, everything on AUTO and just Point and shoot:

Thank you for your thoughts, but..
>you complain about "ok google" doesn't work on a Chinese smartphone? Really?
Mi other Xiaomi (A2) does support "Ok Google".
>BUT compared with the price the MI8 is more better !
This is Definitely true - amazing value.

Xiaomi MI A2 is a really good example why "Ok Google" works, it doesn't run Xiaomis Miui. It runs Android One, its a stock android fork and it would be a misstake when "Okay Google" wont work here....
Try the camera with xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 Stable. MIUI Global for Mi 8 is a big joke with a lot of problems and missing features. The DXO review was made with the Chaina ROM, that is why it shoots good/great.
I'm a happy Mi 8 user with the latest stable xiaomi.eu. After 1 month of using it: Mi 8 is not the best phone, but for this price, it's unbeatable right now and probably in the near future among the flagships.
Best regards!
After 3 months with Mi8
Summarized - A great phone!
- Screen is very good balanced - normal colors, nice.
- Battery durability is much better then expected, keeping it charged for 45 minutes a day.
- very snappy. Quick to browse.
- WiFi has very good reception.
- camera is excellent, but telephoto not very usable in lower light conditions (due to lack of OIS)
Never had any problem with this phone, which is - from my experience - very rare in praxis.
Hope to get Pie and camera update soon.
I hab similar experience with miui 10 global. Can't wait to unlock :|
Camera ist not good. Many bugs like Bluetooth disconnecting and big standby battery drain. App crashes. Always on display not working.
I also don't get why they don't display notification icons, it's so easy to do.
What I really like are the full screen gestures but that's about it lol

1. Google Assistant isn't working for a ton of phones, Samsung ones included. It's a GA bug.
2. No idea why they didn't certify L1...which is FREE!
3. The display is great, the only problem is with the older ROM, HDR isn't enabled yet so HDR videos look absolutely crap. Android Pie update has fixed this somewhat.
4. The Mi 8 has both OIS and EIS, and videos are very stable from my tests.
The other points aren't relevant to me so I hope they fix it for you.

Here I am with good news!
1. Google Assistant is now working (always on listening)
2. - yeah no change possible
3. Huge difference after last update, HDR videos look gorgeous!
4. As I said before, without telephoto, it's very stable. And now camera is working much better, even the night mode is very nice and if needed 960fps slow-mo is available.
This is a much better phone now!

There's an issue with HDR if you have not noticed with the update. If you watch HDR videos during night time, the whole system turns a yellow tinge (Night/Reading mode OFF). When you quit the video, the system UI turns back to white. I've tested this, and the system returns itself to normal at 7.14am (I don't know why lol). It's as if HDR somehow forces Reading Mode on during night time, even if you have it turned off.
Global miui 10 8.12.20 beta,
No issues with ok Google (no unlock though)
Camera is excellent
Notch is too wide
Ported stock apps work (Google dialer, Google camera with night sight)
Got 300,737 in antutu, basically rivalling a Kirin 980 (ok I was outside in 4C temperature running it)
As for MIUI, previously owning an honor 9, I got rid of EMUI as soon as possible , I actually don't mind MIUI 10, it's not very intrusive, and is fairly minimalist, paired with ruthless launcher and a pixel icon pack, I might actually keep MIUI after I unlock the bootloader

>No unlock with assistant is problematic a little
>Which Google Camera is Working for you? Is it better the na new stock?
no need to check benchmarks, MI8 runs very fast.
A feature which would i welcome is a ported pixel 3 launcher which works (with assistant button)
Otherwise might be the best phone for the money. A big difference to slightly lower cost Pocophone (display and camera are really much better)

for the pixel launcher, just download the modded APK from ApkMirror, this is the latest version, should work fine https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/papho...tless-pixel-2-launcher-mod-9-4889482-release/ Although, to be fair, i much prefer ruthless launcher, as it offers a few more features over the stock pixel launcher, unfortunately, you do need to install the pixel bridge fro assistant to work though.
I'd check the cameras, but my screen decided that working was not in its job description, so (luckily) i am getting a replacement device from amazon (still within returns window), should be with me tomorrow, so i'll test, but as far as i can tell, from taking a few pictures before it died, the stock camera seems very good, especially in the dark, i took a few pictures in an almost completely black room, upped the exposure, and got some rather nice (abeit a bit blurry, because i cant hold a phone still for 4 seconds it seems) images. This was on global beta 8.12.20, so may not be the same as stable 10.1.2.
I will say though, that the secondary lens, switched to using it independently (there's a setting for telephoto somewhere in the camera app), isn't very good in low light, and doesn't have brilliant saturation, but i think its a software thing, need to wait until there are a few 3rd part camera apps that can use both cameras, given pie offers an API to do that now.

try ruthless launcher https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.ruthless.nexuslauncher
you need to download rootless pixel bridge from github too
if you want a stock pixel launcher, just try an earlier version of the one on APKmirror, just scroll down until you get to the list of versions

ah, ok, have you actually got google assistant enabled, you actually need to open the assistant app at least once and set it up for it to work properly, or do you mean that the button isn't there in the search bar, because if so, that's a bit odd since it worked fine for me, to be fair, i'd just say switch over to ruthless launcher, i personally think its a bit better (although i do miss the 'right click' menu on long press of background), since the assistant button is built into the launcher, i cant see any reason why it shouldn't be there, possibly its an OS issue, i was on global beta 10.12.20, if you are on the chinese ROM it might not work, not without google services installed properly at least.

everything works about assistant (voice or button activated), I'm on global ROM. Just there is no specific assitant button on the right side of the search bar. I'm on MIUI 10.1.2.0 stable.
If there would be an specific assistant button I'd be able to switch to gesture control.

Stock Android camera app 'Pro' mode

I ve recently got a Google Pixel 3
Coming from the Galaxy S7, I m accustomed to the 'Pro' mode of the Samsung stock camera app. I use it mostly for video and there I could find the following options:
Metering: Matrix, Spot, Center-weighted (I used the latter)
AF area: Multi, Center (I used the latter)
Also within the Pro mode, I could also set exporuse compensation, WB etc
Now, I can't find any of those options in my Pixel 3 (using the stock Android app). My P3 is currently running 'blueline' version of Android 9
From what I figured so far, all those settings I was able to setup manually on my Galaxy S7, now are handled automatically by the software in my P3. But I do need to override them. Is there any way for me to set these options on my P3?
For example, P3 seems to use tracking AF (once you tap onto something on the screen), but otherwise I can't tell how focusing is done (I m interested in center-weighted AF)
Similarly, custom exposure is not retained - if I tap onto something the exposure bar pops up and I can set it to my liking, but I would like to have a constant overexposure (e.g. +0.7). But it doesn't retain it
Since the P3 is running Android 9, I could upgrade to 10 or 11 if the camera app supports those options I m after. Any resouce that I could check the changes from 9 => 11 in regard to the camera app?
If there's a third party camera app that features those options, I d leave it as last resort. I d prefer to use the stock app instead..
Is there somewhere that I can check on the camera app changes all the way from Android 9 to Android 11?
I also read very positive feedback on the "Open Camera" app for video. Seems that it features all the advanced options that I m after (and plenty more perhaps). But I m a bit hesitant as I thought that camera performance is hardware/firmware dependent. How is it possible for a Pixel phone, that Google holds such pride in it's photo capabilities, being so mediocre in video performance. Could a change in the app (e.g. use Open Camera) really produce better results?

Themes / Apps / Mods [Magisk Module] A52 Hidden Mods

A magisk module adding the mods from ShaDisNX255's Thread plus many extra mods systemlessly!
Credit goes to the original creator UltraHQ Github and Sloobot Github for porting to the A52.
This is a fork of Sloobot's work to provide continuity of the project after he decided to EOL it.
Note: It should only be used on the Galaxy A52 (SM-A526B). Trying on other devices is at your own risk.
In case something doesn't work, remove the module. It will revert everything to its normal state.
In case you bootloop (which is extremely unlikely), boot into safe mode and remove the module or install the Magisk Bootloop Protector module.
If you have any problems, please open a new issue on GitHub or post here.

Currently only the 5G is supported for Android 13 November security patch (which is my own phone). I will port it to the 4G version after some more testing, probably in a week or so.
Note: It should only be used on the Galaxy A52 (SM-A526B) running the corresponding android security patch version as written in the releases. Trying on other devices is at your own risk.
The changes are always reversable, by simply removing the module in magisk.
I own the SM-A528B/DS model will be okay?

The Galaxy A52s? Right now no but I may port it in the future like Sloobot had done originally. The main issue though is I don't have an A52s physically so I wouldn't be able to test it. I'll have to ask you (or any other Galaxy A52s user) to grab a couple copies of stock files in the root (/system) directory on Android 13, will let you know more when I am in a position to do so.
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for continuing this incredible project. I only discovered this today. I thought this module was dead after sloobot discontinued it.
I hope you will create a version for a52 4g for december patch soon, but for now I'll try flashing the 5g zip to see if it works. Will report on the results soon.

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for continuing this incredible project. I only discovered this today. I thought this module was dead after sloobot discontinued it.

Thanks for the kind words. The 5G zip should still work, the only difference is Sloobot's version of this custom mods was referencing the 4G's lesser refresh rate of 90Hz instead of the 5G's higher refresh rate of 120Hz, on 5G devices, so I decided to split them both out. I have also held off releasing the 4G version so quick just to give the 5G one an extended test since it's a major Android version update since the last; after a month of testing it's looking great and I'm aiming for a 4G release near the end of this month
How do battery and device perform with this mod?

I find these points relevant to what you ask:
Performance
Enhanced CPU Responsiveness
Added High Performance mode (also known as Enhanced Processing mode)
Battery
ADPS (Wi-Fi Power Saving)
It's a mod at all.
Usually you can't get better performance and experience than stock one.
That's why I asked.

Oh right you want more details on how it works. That's fine.
In a nutshell how it works is, Samsung added all the high end features to their S-Series lineup. Which are of course the flagships. They're configurable in a few files that act as toggles, if you are able to edit the /system directory (which is what Magisk etc is for). Under normal circumstances you can't do it because it requires root privileges.
But they were lazy with restricting the A-Series to distance their capabilities from the S-Series; what they did was simply turn the high end features off at a software level, the toggles mentioned above. But the clever folk (the modders) figured out how to turn them on and many of these toggles do indeed work on A-Series as though they were S-Series, because both series share many of the same internals.
The simplest and easiest test to quickly show would be performance, take these two screenshots in the mobile app Old School RuneScape. Pay attention to the in-app FPS counter in the top right in yellow.
Module off: 121 FPS
Module on: 187 FPS
That's an impressive 50% increase in performance.
(note this app's FPS can report the true FPS above the phone's refresh rate in which A52 5G is 120Hz and A52 4G is 90Hz)
You're welcome to do your own benchmarks and make your own conclusions, but from my experience they do indeed work
Thank you!

Note: Unlike Sloobot's version there are separate modules for both the A52 5G and A52 4G. Make sure you use the correct one in the releases.
I plan to eventually port this to the Galaxy A52s (SM-A528B/DS) when I can commit the time.

Will it work?

The 4G release works fine on One UI 5.1 according to another user on the XDA 4G sister thread. I haven't updated myself yet, but I would say yes for 5G too.

i managed to enable uhd 60 fps now, fixed macro camera crash and portrait mode
I've just published v2.5.5 with some new enhancements
Notably I've merged both devices (4G and 5G) back into one, I think for some of you, you will have to remove the old module and add the new one as the name it checks to see if a new version is out has changed.
I've created a pull request on your repository to add the object cut from Gallery feature that the S-series have. I need you to load up your stock public.libraries-arcsoft.txt file since I need to declare new libs

By load up you mean send a copy? Here it is.
For the heck of it I tested the latest release of yours from 4 days ago on my A52S and all seems to working fine. No errors (yet). The SSRM error is present though. Not a big deal...
