Stupid question - how do I answer a call on my WileyFox phone? - Wileyfox Swift 2 Questions & Answers

It should be obvious, but I can't find how I answer a call on my WileyFox Swift 2 phone. Haven't had it long and have only received two calls (which I couldn't answer) but when it rings I can't see what I have to do to answer. The second time it rang, even my son couldn't work it out.
There's a sort of 'vibrating' phone icon as it rings, and tapping that (which seems the obvious thing to do) does nothing! No problems texting, and I've downloaded a few useful apps, but don't know how to answer a call...... Crazy!!......... I'm sure it must be something simple.
I'm embarrased to be asking such a question but I hope someone can put me right. Cheers!

You don't just tap that icon, you need to swipe it across to the right & the call will answer. It's a similar process when you are dismissing an alarm.

Thank you so much...... I thought it might be something simple, but swiping never occurred to me!....... You've been a big help

yeah its useless .. you have to swipe upwards with you finger on the telephone icon.. rather than tapping the icon.
I wish i could setup auto answer or even change this.

What the hell was samsung thinking? (vlingo rant)

So I just got my new SGS2 on ATT a few days ago.
I normally like to use the phone stock, without rooting or anything for a few days before doing anything, so i can base my performance off that. (battery life, speed, features, etc.)
I am sad to say this phone is horrible stock. The first and most glaring mistake that samsung made is this Vlingo bs.
I very often double tap the home button to get to the home screen (one tap to exit app, second tap to bring me to my home screen) and now all i hear is "what would you like to do"
A few times while i was in class, i had my phone on silent mode, and 3 times i heard that goddam voice.
And there is no way to turn it off!!!!! are you kidding me samsung? Not everyone (probably no one) wants this crappy app annoying the crap out of them all day. And at least give people the option to disable it if they want to.
I personally wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone who doesnt want to root their phone. You'd think with what happened with the captivate, samsung would have wisend up, but of course not.
You should probably be paying attention in class ;-)
Just because the phone has different actions to buttons doesn't make it crap. I agree though, they should allow you to disable it.
It was the first thing I removed once rooted, the thing is so annoying!

Perhaps you should answer, and tell vlingo exactly what you'd like it to do (or where it should go.)
when i was on stock this was never an issue for me. i have never hit the home button twice to get home. a friend has been on stock for a long time and never had the problem either. why hit home twice, once works
but yes being an android you should have the option to remove or customize it.
i for one like the voice talk app for when i am driving
That is indeed annoying. I am getting mine tomorrow and I am all ready to root it. In Galaxy Tab though, you have to hold down on the search button to activate vlingo. Even though I don't usually press home button twice, that can be annoying...
lol, out of habit from using crappy phones and a low patience level, I happen to hit the home button about 50 thousand times while the screens load.
I actually like the vlingo app. it is pretty competent most of the time and I haven't found a better solution yet, but I agree they should give you the option to turn it off.
My girlfriend sgs2 never had such a thing, though it was australian/telstra so perhaps it wasn't included.
But I know your pain, I used to continually bring up voice commands on my motorola milestone 2 and it would blast me with "please say a command". So annoying

As a temporary fix, there's the option of changing the Vlingo message. Mine now says "Whaddya want now?" on the home button double-tap. Perhaps you could change it to just several spaces? I'm curious to see whether it would work, but I'd rather not annoy my cow-orkers by messing around with it. Sshhhhhhh ...
I totally forgot about this problem, lol oh man that made me mad when it popped up every time.
Just root it.

As mentioned above, you only need to hit the home button once to return to home. Instead of yelling at Samsung for making a double tap actually do something, besides making sure Zombies are dead, just applaud that they've improved things enough that you only have to hit it once to get home.
You can disable it in the motion settings menu.

I was almost positive I disabled it somehow but it's been a while and I wasn't sure. I remember doing it the first day because I hated that double home tap crap.
ended up just installing a custom rom, so no problem.
But for the average user, this is super annoying. And i searched around everywhere to see if i could disable it.
I for one am one of those people that presses buttons almost as a nervious tick, like tapping your feet or something like that, so thats what annoyed me the most about it.

Yes it looks like you can disable it, but you can't.
There is a checkbox that says: "Double tap", "Automatically prepare your device for voice commands in Voice talk"
Unchecking it does not disable running Vlingo.
The only times I opened Vlingo, was accidental. It's a huge flaw of the Samsung developers to have this incredibly annoying app hardwired to a button. Even more so the HOME button! Why not attach this app to double-tapping the search button? Or a long press? At least that would never happen accidentally.
For me this is by far the biggest annoyance on this phone (also because it lags the single-tap of the home button).

Writing messages, trying to place cursor at one spot, cursor jumps to another spot

I searched this forum. I dont know if it is Android specific or device specific. All I know...theres this super annoying problem. While wtiting in the text box, if the message im writing gets long and I have to correct a typo I made or simply want to move the cursor to another location in the paragraph, the dumb cursor bounces off the spot I selected and goes someplace far off..sometimes even 3 or 4 lines up. Sometimes it just wont move there no matter how many times I touch that spot. Its like it bounces off it and goes someplace else. If the message is short, it doesnt do this.
Is there any fix for this hella annoying problem? It makes it extremely difficult to edit what I wrote.
Stock device? Have you thoroughly tested your screen to rule out display problems? This problem is certainly not present with my device, but I had a similar issue on my Droid incredible that was fixed by changing roms.

Also happens on some touchscreens when you are charging and nudge the cord in the port a bit. The power fluctation causes the digitizer to spaz out until unplugging, or locking and unlocking the screen while plugged still.
If you ask me I'd say its pure stupidity on HTC's part. I miss my inc that had the trackpad. All I'm saying is this. If there isn't going to be a physical way built into the front of the device to move the cursor then atleast include on screen arrows like in Sense 4. To me its just dumb that the only way to move the cursor is to touch where you want to correct. Its this reason alone that I don't enjoy typing on my Rezound like I did on my Eris or Incredible.

Agreed. You get used to it though. Sort of.
You could try reseting the calibration in settings.

But no one wants trackballs anymore. It's all about the massive screens and battery draining. I miss my Inc too. RIP trackball. Another option would be to download swiftkey. you can turn on arrows on the keyboard. makes life easier.
There are already flashables of the arrowed keyboard for 3.6.
I have a similar problem when pasting text. You put the cursor and tap and hold where you want to paste, and it jumps and selects some other text. If you hit paste, then it wipes what you previously wrote.
What's up with that?
To answer everyone... Its stock 2.3.4 ROM. And it does this regardless if it is plugged in to a charger or not. I have calibrated in the past for other reasons, but I dont think thats the problem. It seems to happen only when theres at least 4 lines or more of text. The more text in the box, the worse the problem becomes. It's not like a calibration issue. Because when you touch the spot in the text box to move the cursor there, the cursor actually does move there ..but only for a brief micro-second as it quickly bounces off that spot and lands some places else. Like I said, it only starts happening as you start to get 4 or more lines in the box. Now this box here in the quick reply, its not giving me any trouble ...yet. but some forums that use small text boxes and Facebook especially..omg its bad at facebook..
Ah yes, I'm on ICS (Newt's XXX ROM to be specific) and I believe I see what you are talking about. Typed a long response in the comment box on the Facebook app, and when scrolling the paragraph the caret does indeed bounce. It is essentially trying to stay within the tiny viewing window.
Actually I dont use the Facebook app, cant stand it. I use the browser. Either the mobile or the full site.
lol Yes, the app is rather crummy. The issue persists in the mobile version of the site and the full site to a lesser extent, depends on the amount of viewing space and amount of text. Consistent with your symptoms.
Leaning towards it being an Android problem or at least HTC Sense problem rather than specifically this device as a result. Newt's XXX ROM is a Sense 4 port after all.
Hmm. It seems to vary by page, for me. But yes, Facebook definitely does this, but so does Discus. I think it's a problem with Flash. Anyway, I "select all" and "cut" then reload the page and paste my text back in. Then I can navigate around the text normally for a while.
This even happens in the text entry window in xda, if I use the website instead of Tapatalk. I am also pretty sure this happened with my DInc as well.
(currently running stock GB)

Yes, I've seen it sometimes. To compound the problem, sometimes the arrow keys on the Sense keyboard don't work properly; the left/right arrows instead move the cursor up and down.
+1 on missing the Inc's optical "trackball". Never knew how much I used it until I didn't have it.

Arrow keys on sense? Where? Did not see any. Thats why I love swiftkey x because it had them arrows and they were a lifesaver. Only reason im jot using it now is because I did not purchase SKx yet. And skx kept causing problems in some IM apps I use. Its now Swiftkey 3. And im seeing some bad reviews of things I dont like. Will wait... Unless there is some other quality keyboard app ..yes quality..not clutzy..and have arrows. I thought about the Hackers keyboard but....ehh rather small keys and is better suited for landscape or a touchpad.
Arrowed Keyboard.
I'm going to revive this old thread because I'm having exactly the same problem as described in the first post, but on three different devices. First one is my S4 with stock but rooted 4.2.2 using TouchPal keyboard (great cut/paste/arrow keys/select/select all functionality), second is an old Android tablet running 4 something, lastly my brand new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, which is stock 4.3 with stock keyboard.
They all exhibit the same behavior, text entry works fine until I move the cursor position then I can't get back to the end of what I'm writing, only seems to happen when I'm using a browser (Boat Browser) and trying to reply to a forum, might try a different browser and see what happens. When it happens it completely breaks the cursor control options in TouchPal with whole sections of text just disappearing when trying to move the cursor via the keyboard. Once it's happened even submitting the post and editing it again still often has the same problem.
I think this is just an Android thing, I run across it from time to time on various devices as well, and just tap somewhere else in the text, then drag the cursor to the end of the text and continue.
But that's the thing, you try and drag the cursor to the end and it's as if it's on elastic and springs back.

[Q] Alternatives to the hardware side buttons?

Hi,
I've recently rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 (THANK YOU open1your1eyes0 for the guide, and hiikezoe, DooMLoRD, and PWM978 for the root exploit!) and everything went pretty much flawlessly.
So brimming with confidence after almost a week of root related tweaking I'm now hunting for a solution to replace part of the functionality of the right hand side HARDWARE button for putting my phone to sleep - or whatever the correct term is for when "I click the button to make my screen go dark so as to avoid calling people with my butt while I'm carrying my phone around".
Is there such a thing?
As an old school IT guy, my philosophy is that I'd rather use the touch screen (with like a toggle or what have you) for this super frequent function than use the hardware button which will eventually wear the hell out. Yeah, I know it prolly has around a gogillian use cycles before that day but I'm a bit of a purist and maybe we should just call it a philosophy with me. Or maybe I'm debilitatingly OCD.
Either way, is there such a solution out there? I'm hoping for a toggle similar to the pull-down shade buttons already provided for mobile data, or GPS etc. However I would also be satisfied with a standalone "app" type button I could situate someplace handy onscreen or maybe even in a "Button Savior" type "drawer" that I could access with just a flick and click after every phone call (and BEFORE I drop the phone into my pocket and call random people as I have been doing far too often *lol*)
Anyway, thanks for reading and I appreciate any help you may be able to give me to get me pointed in the right direction.
Best regards,
Joe C.
Only thing I can consider is trying to get a job with Samsung and maybe they will let you build the s5 with the buttons you want. Good luck!

Thanks hexitnow and nativi! I appreciate your time answering me but I should have been clearer. I had seen those various "app" options and even tried a few.
What I was trying to describe by, "..a toggle similar to the pull-down shade buttons already provided for mobile data, or GPS etc." was the actual rectangular toggle buttons for those functions and others like airplane mode and screen rotation and all. I'm referring to the batch of buttons which can even be reordered to control which 5 are displayed across the top of the pull down shade area.
One of the Play Store apps called "Screen Off and Lock" by "Katecca" comes close because it lets you configure it to show in the pull down shade - but only in the "Text" area of the "Notifications" area (like where battery info or things like that are shown). Am I describing what I mean adequately?
It's a wonderful app but I was hoping to limit the screen real estate dedicated to this function even more is all.
Thank you again though for your tips.
Best,
Joe C.
The free Button Savior app can do this. Use the on/off looking button.
Also in system settings, security, device administrator, you need to give lock screen privilege to Button Savior
Would nova Launcher have a gesture that you could do to turn the screen off with a gesture or even a gesture app.

Swipe to answer/clear/dismiss

So, I guess it's not necessary. All I do is tap and it works even tho I'm prompted to swipe. Is there a setting I'm missing?
Work either way. The wonderful part of most OSes (outside of Apple OSes) is that there are several ways of doing things. Just depends on which way works best for you.

Yeah that's cool...but in the older phones, a swipe was needed...which I prefer...so I don't accidentally dismiss an alarm or pickup a call. So, I'm pretty sure I messed with a setting, but just can't find it again.

Yup, but pretty sure I messed with a setting...don't want to tap to dismiss or pickup calls. Too many accidental touches could happen.
Wow, XDA lagging today. Anyway, found the setting. Accessibility - Single Tap Mode.

Are you using the "Always On Display"? That can help accidental calling and such.
Make discussion of your choice is before touching. Then you can swipe one way or another depending if you want to answer or not. If you touch not knowing what you going to do it will answer call (since this is the default action).
Pressing the power button while phone is ringing silences the ring sounds. While still allowing the phone still silently ring.
Settings > Lock and Security > App Shortcuts > turn off both left and right shortcuts. This will take them off from your Lock Screen. This should also help from accidental actions while not using the Note 8.
Settings > Lock and Security > Notifications > turn on "Notification icon only". This will help too. Since gets rid of lots of clutter on the Lock Screen while you get notifications on Lock Screen. The only thing is that when you get a call it will still be the same notification. But the rest of the notifications will be an icon that you can touch to get details of the notifications or prompt you to login to your device for further information.

Dialer notification dots stuck?

Basically whenever I miss a call the dialer shows me in a notification dot for example if I miss 2 calls it shows 2 in the top corner of the apps icon, however they won't go away and are now slowly building up.. I've called the person back, click on the missed call, went through and cleared call history, force stopped the app etc. Doesn't seem to do anything, any idea? Thanks
I have the same issue

It's not just the dialer, it's ALL of the apps that allow notification dots on the home screen. There's not even a specific pattern when they do or don't do it. Very frustrating, especially since I've turned notification dots off.

Same problem on my Xparia 1. I deleted cache, stopped the dialer app and so on but no luck. Only a factory reset solved the problem for me. That's very annoying.
