Samsung-SM-J320V Root - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i am trying to root my verison J320 phone, and im having a couple issues, for one i cannot find a stock rom with the correct build number, always has a PP in the middle or doesnt end with PL1, so i am uncertain what stock rom will be safe to grab, and i dont want to experiment with rooting it to much untill i have a solid stock rom, i found one that might be correct but it was a zip folder and i p much have to work with odin. any rate if anyone could provide me with a link to the correct stock rom that would be awesome, also if anyone knows a posible root option for this that would be nice, have tried king and kingo root both PC and Android version, havent even wasted my time trying framaroot because it has never worked for any phone i have ever owned, i found a CF autoroot for the SM-J320R4, but again not really wanting to gamble on that working untill i at least have a solid stock rom for backup
No heckling about me being stupid enough to buy a verison phone when i basically require root, i know it was stupid, i live in an area where verison is the only reliable carrier so my options are VERY limited here, i have been using phones with no signal in half the places i go for a year and im sick of it, so i want to make this bastard work.
i dont mind custom OS, hell i love custom OS, so that is also an option, my bootloader is locked so odin only please, any workarounds to unlock my bootloader and possibly get rid of knox will also be gladly accepted but unless someone can find me that stock rom i am not gonna test to much as i still owe like... 180$ on this phone

Got it installed, made a call, and worked with T-Mobile. Then went to bed at night and when i woke up it asked to install an update and I hit install. After that it hasn't been able to make any more calls. I did only test that one call. So not entirely sure the update is to blame.

I have the same phone but through Verizon, will this work?

[Q] Do you guys know a thing about this phone?

Hi, I'm new to this website and was wondering if you can help me. Ive got an android phone with FROYO 2.2. Ive search all over the internet for custom ROMs and updates for my phone but no luck. By the way, my phone is called Cherry Mobile Candy.
About phone:

If I'm missing something please feel free to suggest anything. I really want to try out some custom roms for my phone or updates to boost it up. Thank you.
I don't think you can find any custom ROM for this device, it's a low category Android Phone. But the best quality of Android it's his portability, so you can try to give some informations on porting Android for this device.
Yes your'e right its a low end phone. What benefits i can get if do that Android porting your'e saying?
so can i get an update with this phone?
Porting is a sort of manual building of a ROM for your device. For example my Gio support Gingerbread but not ICS officially, but there are guys that are working on the source of ICS and build the ROM for my device.
Android is open - source, so anyone can do this, whit the right skills.
Hey men, i really need your help!!. So this is how it goes,
Ive Downloaded Rom Manager. ive explored all of its contents, and i bumped to this Boot into recovery option. I tap it without knowing what will it do to my phone. Then the recovery screen appears, i scrolled down to clear all caches and then i choose yes, my phone turns on with no problem, But the thing is when i slide the unlock panel to unlock my phone, i just see a complete black screen, with the notification bar,(with time and the signal indicator) im not sure what to do with this.
As i search through the internet, my phone is not yet bricked, It can boot up to recovery mode, and the test mode. The dumbest decision ive made though, i did not make any backup of my system.
can you help me,sir? thank you,

[Q] Recommended Kernel - I can't find it anywhere

Hi People,
After being a long time lurker on this board, I finally thought it was time to signup now that I'm in desperate need of some help. The girlfriend has been complaining about the poor battery life of her phone ever since she carried out the latest update. Now with that in mind, I thought I'd do what I've done with my ZTE Skate and that's change over to good ole' cyanogen mod.
So I downloaded Odin3 in the hope of unlocking my phone but when it comes to hunting around for the most appropiate Kernel, for one reason or another, I can't seem to find the one I'm looking for. The details are the following:
Model Number GT-19100
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: 19100XXMS2
Kernel version:
3.0.31-1211311

Could anyone please point me in the right direction? I've tried searching high and low but have came up short each time I've been looking. Hopefully, if there is one out there, I'll be able to use CF-Root 5.6 or something similar to change the Kernel so I can swap out the rap to something a little less resource intensive.
Any help would be much appreciated. I know this is my first post but I hope this isn't enough to put anyone off from helping me out. This is an awesome community and before creating this thread, I did search high and low but came up with nothing.
Thanks very much people! :good:
You're asking for a recommended kernel at the same time as saying you want to flash CyanogenMod (and "unlock" the phone?). Before you do something (else) stupid, you should do some more reading. Especially on the difference between a ROM and a kernel. Everything you need to know about CyanogenMod is in its own thread(s).
Apologies for my stupidity! Just when I thought I knew what I was talking about, I end up shooting myself in the foot. I'll take on your advice and do some more reading!
I am also confused about what exactly you are planning to do... What do you mean by "unlocking", and how are you going to use Odin for it? Is your gf's phone completely stock, i.e. not rooted? If so, the easiest way to me would be to flash PhilZ kernel and recovery straight from stock recovery (you don't need Odin for that, and it will not trigger the yellow triangle). This will give you root and a very nice touch CWM, which you can then use to flash CM (if that's your intention), or anyhing else you want...

Thanks very much kt-Froggy! I think I was confusing myself when I wrote my original post but somehow you managed to make sense of exactly what I was asking. Her phone is completely stock and I was looking for the appropriate kernel to flash. I'll give this a shot and see how I get on. With a little luck, it should be plane sailing! Cheers! :good:
No problem! Just make sure you get the right PhilZ version (the latest XWLSW) to match your current ROM. IMHO, it's by far the easiest way to get both root and CWM on our phones.

[Q] New to me S4 and lots of questions, please help a newb

Hello all,
So I received my new to me S4, and prior to activating it I wanted to Fist get rid of Knox and put on a custom ROM.However, after much reading I am just more confused. I hoping that someone will just give me the Dummies guide to rooting, nixn' Knox and installing a custom ROM (hyperdrive, or CM).
Like first go download these apps, next do this, then that, kinda instructions.
the phone I received is an:
SCH-i545
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband I545VRUFNC5
Kernal 3.4.0 [email protected]#1
Build# K0T49H.I545VRUFNC%
SE for Android Status: Enforcing; SEPF_SCH_I545_4.4.2_0011
Secure boot Status Type: Samsung
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
Hope this is not too much info, but I read all kind of post that seem to condradict one another, just when I think I've found the info I read something else that makes me feel this could lead to disaster. Please help. The last android I had was a Droid Eris, and things seem to have changed quite a bit.
Thanks

Read my whole post linked below. It is accurate. Do not upgrade to NG6, it is a pain and has root but no custom rom capability (yet). On NC5 however, you can flash a ROM using Safestrap (Do not use the safestrap linked in the thread below (3.72), use the safestrap in the general forum (3.75)). DO NOT FLASH TWRP OR CWM. We have a locked bootloader and flashing those is impossible as of yet.
With safestrap, you cannot flash CM, AOSP, or anything that contains a custom kernel. You can flash Hyperdrive, eclipse, and in rare cases Google Edition (The Safestrap version only!!! Not the normal Google edition!)

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Mega 2 as well.
KingRoot did work for me. I am looking for a custom ROM now, but there is like NO support from anywhere for this device. I hope we can get a developer onboard and get something built for these devices.
have a thread on android forums for this as well, you can do a search for Mega 2 and its the only thread on the mega 2 forum, screenname on there is Matt Cajon as well.
Maybe we can make something happen
Custom Recovery?
Any luck with a working custom recovery?
running backup before running the app.
Thank you shockazulu for your post on the mega2 root.
I'm new to this and have been looking and searching for the best way to do it and most have refurred the king root app.I do have a questions .
Do I still need to do a backup of the phone before running the app.?
Is this a preferment root as I noted your phone reverting back to it's original state?
Noticed there is a newer version of the king root app now 4.5 and would it be better to run that app ?
Thanks Again and I'm sure I'll have another question before I get into doing this !
Chris
I manage to root the galaxy mega 2 on the newer baseband G750AUCU3AOFA. Since for some reason you can't root it on that build. but with the modem flash it worked

The problem with the att version of the mega 2 is that the bootloader is locked. So there is no way to use a custom bootloader like Clockwork. Without a custom bootloader we can't load/flash roms.
But what we can do is........
We can use a program called Flashfire. Flashfire is a way to flash things on our phone without having to use the bootloader.
We can also use exposed launcher and wanam exposed. This is the tools we can use to make customise our stock rom.
One of us could customize a rom and create a step by step for how they created it. If it is a stable setup then instead of others flashing that custom ROM, they would fallow the steps to create the same custom ROM.
whats with the vague answer ...
if you rooted it on OFA how did you do it?!?!
WHAT MODEM?! please elaborate I need to know asap..
Any of you had luck on installing a custom recovery for it? i am trying to help another forum member who have this S750A .
I recently ported a custom TWRP for my device which is a SM-J105B. Found out that TWRP was easier to port/works better on it than CWM for instance. Maybe this is the case for you guys device, i want to help out.
i know this is a 1 year old post but if any were successful please share the knowledge cheers from Brasil!
Pindroid is trying to help me i have a samsung galaxy mega 2 sm-g750a also it said "unlocked" on the ad when i got it but anyways we are looking for the original 4.4.4 kitkat firmware and can't seem to find it anywhere but the one we did find that has repair in its title has never worked as far as flashing with it goes. I have lollipop right now and it works fine but it hasn't solved the problem im having with my IMEI so we are trying a downgrade to see if that helps. Anyways thanks for any help

The root is no problem..It's the boot loop is the biggest problem. And factory wiping it doesn't fix the issue.

I have rooted it 2 different ways...Kingo and Super SU..Once rebooted it will boot loop over and over.It has something to do with the Knox itself.I've been working on a way to disable it but it's enterprise and it doesn't have an option under security. And yes it's SG-M750A AT&T Mega 2.

mmm Ok. How did you root with SuperSU ? CF-auto? recovery? supersu-me ?
Is there an option called "Unlock by OEM" under "Developer Options"? Enable it.
Another thing, according to this tutorial for the SG-M750F:
https://androidmtk.com/root-samsung-galaxy-mega-2-sm-g750f
This F version which should be similar is only rootable with a specific firmware. Maybe thats the case for the A version aswell.
Also, next time you have root, before you reboot you should make a backup of your EFS and Modem folders. You can do that via ADB, EFS tools or using some apks for instance.
Check dlo2000 post on first page, he had kitkat installed, rooted with Kingo and let the the phone OTA update to lollipop... somehow his IMEI number got corrupted and now he cannot use his phone to make calls. Thats why backing up your EFS partition is important, your IMEI is there.
So from what i understood, you did know stock firmware flash would remove bootloops, but you currently dont know how to root without creating a bootloop, is that correct? cheers

Enterprise... maybe it has extra security turned on, idk.
How do you know it has to do with KNOX, did it show some knox message? Chainfire's supersu sometimes asks to let it disable knox. Which version of supersu did you use?

I used Kingo the first time, and even used Super SU me to remove Kingo...AT&T devices doesn't require any unlock for cricket because AT&T owns them lock stock and barrel. You're getting the same service just bottle necked on the 4G end of it at 8 mbs and it's unlimited.I have been reading through other post in some other forums, and the SE for Android pops up about security settings and ask to reboot to restore them.Once you do..the boot loop begins.I have searched the error out also...and it pertains to knox.I have even tried to remove knox before rebooting..No go..still boot loops...Myself and another user have the same issue, and we've been trying to figure a work around and nothing yet. Some other information I have read that with the Lollipop update it adds the enterprise knox that may cause issues. But it doesn't hurt to try...Oh I forgot to mention...I made a efs backup before I started the journey but good looking out..Thanks..

OK, so it was supersu-me and the issue has to do with SElinux right.
dude i own a Galaxy J1 mini and i was the "first person" to root the B/F/M/Y versions (custom recovery method, based on an obscure version created for the H version) , this device is also a 5.1.1 android, SElinux activated from factory. The website which provided the root for the H version vanished a couple of weeks after they annouced it... lucky to find it, i just had to read easy tutorials here in XDA to learn how to properly port the TWRP for my specific model B and later on for the other J1 mini variants on ppl demand.
What i find out from my experience is, if i was going to wait for some expert to find how to root it, i would still be waiting... keep trying!
I would personally as a noob, try to find out how to disable KNOX or SElinux . There are probably commands which can be run as root user to disable them, for instance "selinux set permissive" (i know it exists, something like that, maybe). There are apps which claim to do those stuff, just search playstore for "knox" or "selinux" and you will see. In case none does the job automatically, search how to do it manually.
In my case, the TWRP+SuperSU method worked just fine, looks definitive. BUT, before i found this, the only other real option was a chinese app called 360root. None other root app works on my device so far. But its root was unstable and not compatible with all apps, thats why i searched for a permanent root.
THis 360root only worked on the older firmware (also 5.1.1, but older samsung release).
My opinion is... in case you dont mind using kitkat (android 4.4) i would flash the oldest firmware and try to root it with Kingo (which owners of variants of the MEGA 2 claim is the only tool capable, it even turns knox off in some cases). Remembering that if this worked, you would have to disable automatic firmware updates. Letting a rooted device to auto-update usually creates more trouble.
If kitkat is a no go for ya and you want to stick with lollipop, i would first try to disable the protections via apps (root ; dont reset, install app, try). Same applies to manually trying "disabling commands" via Terminal or ADB, root, try.
If that still does not work ... i would try to download a stock lolipop firmware and extract its files. I would then try to create a custom recovery (read tutorials) and also check if there were any options i could manually reprogram inside boot.img , recovery.img, system.img etc... (more tutorials lol)
Again man, im no expert, but thats what i would do! i actually downloaded that lollipop stock firmware for your device and will try to look inside it when i have time.

Ok let me know what you find with the firmware when you get the chance.I have used 360root also in the past myself on devices when nothing else would work.I have tried several times and different ways.Disabled Knox via terminal with temp. root and still no go.It's the SELinux enforcing is the biggest problem.Kingo will install as a system app..but you won't have full root unless you run the apk to root the device again and it reboots on it's own after about 5 minutes or so.I'll keep stabbing at it..and post my findings.I assume I'm not the only one that could use this. Thanks for your time Piridroid.
Anything new on this?

S6 Edge Root G925AUCS4CPG1 Help?

Been looking for a root for my device ever since my old s6 edge was replaced by AT&T but can never find one. If anyone knows where to find one that would be most appreciated.
Baseband Verizon - G925AUCS4CPG1
Android Version 6.0.1
Model Number SAMSUNG-SM-G925
Guess my phone is impossible to root.
Thanks AT&T for collective brainstorming.

I've been vehemently trying. I know that AT&T has screwed us over once again. I don't think there is a way by adb because of the ro.adbsecure, so I'm building a flash rom for Odin. Once finished, I'll post it here since it's the most recent post about it.

Sorry to ask but have you had any luck in building the rom? It's been more than a month, so now I'm starting to worry if we'll ever crack the case.
update?
any update on this. I am stuck with the galaxy logo screen because I installed the old root using odin. Didnt realize it was going to be a big deal. I would love to get the full firmware for the 6.0.1 so I can get my phone working again using odin.
