Hi,
I've been using this G5 for more than 6 months. At the beginning it performed good, reaching easily 5h of SOT with localization, 3g, wifi and everything on. Recently I noticed a huge drop in battery because I only get 3h of SOT with a similar usage.
Yesterday I did a factory reset (v20a EUR) and then also rooted it to inspect wakelocks. The factory reset did not solve anything but I got some more information with BBS.
Android System: WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed
Google Play Services: NlpWakeLock
I didn't perform a test over the whole battery cycle because leaving the device alone for just 3 minutes is enough to notice a greater number of wakelocks with the same label. Really: leaving the screen off for a minute will increase the wakelock time of 10 seconds.
Turning off the wifi and switching to 3g seems to completely solve the issue. Disabling "keep wifi active during sleep" doesn't solve the problem.
Do you have any suggestion?

I just got this recently and it seems like battery drains pretty quickly when the wifi is left on, for some reason the wifi connection stays on constantly unlike my Galaxy S2.
Is there any way to get wifi to sleep when the screen is off? Not that it's a big deal, but it seems like samsung should have thought about this so users don't have to constantly toggle wifi on and off.
Are you sure it's wifi that's doing it? I get barely 24 hours on standby with no apps running & sync switched off.
I've read that the chipset used isn't very efficient when in standby but the status reports on my 5.0 say that when in standby, 77% of the battery is being consumed by cell standby, despite the device having no cell functionality. Wifi is reported as consuming only 8%.
I've asked Samsung to comment & got a very helpful "return it to the retailer"...
I saw a recommendation for Juice Defender but haven't tried it yet.
The Battery Usage estimates for idle, standby, and wifi aren't always reliable - they assume Samsung got the powerprofile.xml right
For me - I know that wifi is significantly increasing my drain, but since it still lasts 4-5+ days of light use even with wifi always on, I don't mind.
This is for the 5.0 with the stock /system firmware and my kernel - 4.0 might be different due to a smaller battery. I see no Cell Standby usage reporting.
I've only had it a few days, but with wifi on, the battery lasts a bit more than 24 hrs just sitting there, I've turned off the wifi about half way through the battery and it seems to be draining at a slower pace now....
I'm also on stock Galaxy 5.0.
It's all very odd. We're getting around 24 hours & others are reporting 4-5 days.
I get 2 days to 5-10% almost everytime. Not much use, wifi on during day, off 10-12 hrs each night. Definitely not very efficient for such a large battery.
My 5.0 gives me great battery life listening to mp3's, the radio, podcasts and watching videos I've downloaded to the player.
However, downloading/surfing the internet drains it fast!. Much faster than I expected
I installed Juice Defender yesterday.
23 hours on I'm now getting a reported 85% of battery use consumed by the non-existent cell standby but the good news is that the battery icon is still showing full. Juice Defender in it's default "balanced" setting switches wifi off & on with the screen & it's reasonably quick to reconnect. Definitely worth a try.
Co-incidentally, I also heard back from Samsung this morning who are going to get their service centre to contact me. I'll report back on what they say.
Now on 66 hours with still a near full battery indicated so it looks like Juice Defender is the way to go.
First and foremost I'm stock rooted and unlocked (bootloader). Got an Anker 6200 mah battery and recently cycled it for the first time with great results. Used the app battery calibration to wipe stats after charging to 100%. Unplugged the phone and turned on the tether. Noticed it went from 100% to 80% ridiculously fast. Opened up betterbatterystats and realized I had some wlan wakelocks and the top offender was mdm_hsic_mp0 kernel wakelock.
I've found a FEW references to this but not many and still not sure what exactly it is. Nothing unusual pops up in the dump log file. Sure I have a few sync partial wakes but nothing over 4 to 5 seconds. This mdm_hsic_mp0 has been kernel wakelocking for 2 hours. Now, I did turn on my hotspot tether during that time, but strange I never noticed this wakelock prior to this seemingly increased battery drain.
So my question to you all is, what is this wakelock. I've disabled almost all my syncs, no location services on, etc. Trying to eliminate every possible source and build my way back up.
I hate wakelocks about as much as I hate politicians.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Okay left the phone on the charger all night and got her back up to 100%. Now checking BBS this mdm_hsic_pm0 wakelock is still happening. I have not used tether/hotspot what so ever and wifi is off. However I have noticed that when I go to the stock battery stats screen w/in android settings it appears my data is shutting off. Almost like a fast dormancy is taking place to conserve battery. I didn't think Verizon supported fast dormancy. But I do not see any references of "fast dormancy" in BBS.
Any ideas?
I used to have that issue on an old version of cleanrom... I turned off multi windows and that seemed to help it... Not sure if that is it though... Could be a coincidence

Thank you for your input.
Installed Beans build 8 and have it (the wakelock) but I've got it figured out and now it's not wakelocking when nothing is going on. Prior to flashing Beans rom however it was still wakelocking w/out what I think is the cause.
It's for the verizon mobile hotspot app. I timed how long I had it on and roughly was the same amount of time that the wakelock was occuring. Phone has no problems going into deep sleep as it's been in deep sleep for 9 hours on this cycle. So I'm content w/ what's happening now.
Hello everyone, I'm using Motorola Atrix with Epinter CM10 4.1 ROM for last 2 months, I was very happy with battery life. Phone wasn't getting hot and with normal usage, even with 3G on (in my country only options are 2G and 3G), I could get %40 of battery end of the day. But for no reason, phone has started to get hot (only 2G on) and drains battery really quickly for last 1 week. I can't even get %5 battery left from morning to evening now. I didn't change anything, only installed Adobe Flash 11.1, then I deleted it but nothing has changed. Phone gets into deep sleep no problem with that, no background apps. I did a virus scan both on phone and from computer, both came out clean. I reinstalled rom. Nothing. I'm gonna crash my phone against wall it's really annoying. I think I'm gonna do factory wipe and reinstall rom again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Do you leave wifi switched on at all times?
I use MIUI on my Atrix (partially based on epinter's work, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong), but I have found that the phone suddenly starts staying awake for no apparent reason a while (often a couple of days) after I've left wifi switched on. This obviously causes bad battery drain. I can usually get the phone to sleep again by rebooting with wifi switched off (I think) and a battery pull is invariably required.
I now just switch on wifi when I have large files to download then turn it off straight afterwards.
Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but Better Battery Stats (which can be downloaded on xda) indicated the Rilj process was stopping the phone from sleeping when this problem occurred. It is worth trying this app to see if it gives any indication what is causing your battery drain.

No I switch between mobile data and wifi. Thank you for your suggestions and opinions but I really don't think my problem is about sleep. It started to get hot and drain when I actually use the phone. For example, I was checking Twitter for 10 min. with 3G and battery was dropping %1. Now it drops %5 with 2G on and gets really hot like 35-37 Celsius degree. I'm using Watchdog to oversee processes and nothing is working without my knowledge on background.
Hi,
I have the same problem on the nottachtrix roms since the last 2 weeks, I tried switching to epinter cm10 with no luck. Ordered a new battery to check if the battery is dead or if the atrix is faulty
if you find a fix, please post it here

install gsam battery monitor to see your phone's awake time. this drain happens to me also when i listen to music or take a photo. something with mediaserver keeps the phone awake and then only thing to do is kill mediaserver or a reboot.
Regardless of which other apps you are using to monitor app and process usage, I'd recommend trying Better Battery Stats as this is much more detailed and low-level than other apps I've encountered.
It's a free download for xda members:

Little update.
I turned back to factory settings, then did a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. I was so annoyed I even did system wipe manually from advanced options in recovery. I reinstalled Epinter CM10 rom, got my apps back thanks to Titanium Backup. Installed GSAM (thanks to saldirai), downloaded SetCpu and chose Nvidia Tegra 2 T20/AP20H, underclocked to 912 mhz. Couldn't done any undervolting sadly, says something about governor.
Now I'm checking battery stats and temperature by GSAM, so far no complaints and better from yesterday BUT I haven't use my phone heavily yet. Temperature changes between 26-31 Celsius degrees, battery drops %1-2 percent on use -also it needs calibration- with only wifi use which is always on. I'll update this post if anything changes.
Update: I think I've found the problem. When I choose The Weather Channel widget to "use my location" phone immediately starts to get warm. Weird point is, this wasn't an issue before. Apart from that I'm playing New Star Soccer and Carmageddon for 3-4 hours with wi-fi full time on and battery drops to %30. I'm really happy about that. Normal battery temperature is about 25-32 during the day and different from before it quickly gets cold after I stop playing games. Just like before.
Battery Drain on Optimus G
Hi, I am writing to get xda members' opinion about the alarming battery drain on my Optimus G. The major culprit seems the Android OS with different wakelocks contributing to the problem.
1. suspend_backoff is the biggest actor here, keeping phone awake for up to 40 mins in the 3 hours of wake time, I have tried multiple wifi options from within the settings but no benefits really. My phone now has a static ip at home and most of the time placed in the same room as the router. Being on the same network, there are times that the suspend_backoff does not come in to picture at all.
2. alarm_rtc too is playing its important role in the battery drain, last I checked it was at 32 mins.
3. msm_hsic_host: At 16m, but that's also because I kept the data off most of the time, however the moment I am on data "on", it starts eating up a lot of battery. One of the possible explanations for this may be that I can only access the WCDMA/3g networks while the phones has the 4g radios too.
4. sns_periodic_wakelock too has lot of wake time, the current screenshots may not explain it but there are times when its the topmost contributor to the wakelocks.
Additional Info:
1. Some charge cycles, the phones shows zero deep sleep, last night the phone was charged to 100 at about 8pm, it came down to 40 this morning around 10am, with a period of no use between 2 am - 7 am. there was absolutely zero deep sleep. Is a no deep sleep a cause of concern?
2. Yesterday, I cleared the dalvik cache and rebooted the phone and it only lost 2-4 percent in a 8 hour period, with no suspend_backoff wakelocks and even the overall android os consumption was very less. However, this changed in the new charge cycle.
3. The phone is currently rooted using framaroot and unlocked bootloader using freegee, before the unlock operation of bootloader, I did see a 4hours plus of screen time with about 25% battery still left. Soon after the unlock, I also installed Snapddragon Battery Guru. It is after the 2 events -> Unlock bootloader and Snapdragon Battery Guru that I started seeing a decline in battery use. I have since removed the Snapdragon app (after its 2 day learning period) but without any benefits. The screen time is now around 2 hours plus.
4. I have also put to freeze some of the other usual suspects like facebook, switched off google now and location services. Though this does defeat the purpose of having a smart phone entirely. I have also frozen some of the AT&T bloatware
Questions:
1. Could the unlocked bootloader have any say in the kernel wakelocks?
2. If I do the factory reset from within settings on the phone, am I likely to run in to any errors due to the bootloader being unlocked?
3. What are my other options in preventing the wakelocks from eating too much of battery.
I have attached the screenshots from current observations
Just noticed a crazy amount of wakeup triggers by the phone process
, anyone have an idea about what could be the deal here?

Hi guys, I don't know what's going on, but my phone's battery has just turned to crap recently. Today, I left for work at 7 with a fully charged battery, and hardly used it aside from a few texts. By noon it was dead in my pocket out of nowhere (my battery saver mode never came on any of the times I did check a text). After that, I threw in my second battery at 12:30. After browsing on my phone to 87% on my lunch break, I started checking on my battery from there:
Within a half hour, my battery life went down 7% to 80%.
Another half hour passed, and it was down to 77%
After another half hour, 74%
By 4:12 PM, my phone was at 68%
54% at 4:45 after reading and replying to one email
Looking in GSAM, I see that 57% of my battery is used by apps, with Android System taking up 18%. OS Services is also my highest data use today, at 16.9 MB. Screen wake is only 1%, so it isn't a wakelock issue. I have sync, bluetooth, wifi, and NFC turned completely off, and am on LTE throughout my work day, with a good connection.
Strangely, even though my phone is in my pocket for most of the day and GSAM says Android System is #1, the built-in battery usage setting shows Screen as #1, followed by Android System, then Android OS.
I'm honestly at a loss right now. I can't think of anything new that I've downloaded. My phone usually makes it through an 8 hour shift fine and then some; the thing has pretty darn good screen off life normally. Please help me figure this out!
I think, because it happens to me at work, that is something related to marshmallow amd wifi, Try to go in the advanced wifi settings and select only when connected under the second option in the menu, Then See if it is better.
Another person that works with me has the problem with his s7 edge so i thougth that it could be related to the wifi bug of marshmallow

try to see if disabling location is doing anything
I always disable it because google services is calling it a lot of times (I know that it's for "lost my phone" feature and so, but still disabling it anyway)
Yeah, battery is bad. I have to G5 for a week. Its a great device but tge battery sucks.

Try turning off Always on Display. That batters battery life.
I get a full day, minimum 4 hours SOT at 75-100% battery.
Fingerprint also wastes battery.
