All work belongs to @jesec - original thread here
All i have done is repacked with the required files for the G950.
@Jesec original OP is below.
Thread under construction.
Team Win Recovery Project 3.1.0-r1
Confirmed working on Korean and International variant. Should also work on other Exynos variants.
NOTE: YOU MUST ENABLE "OEM UNLOCK" (located in Developers options) BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.
As kernel source is not released, some features such as MTP are not available for now.
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
Download: (Flash via Odin)
dreamlteks (Korean version - SM-G950N) (compatiable with International version - SM-G950F/FD):
HOW-TO ROOT AND/OR DISABLE ENCRYPTION/DM-CRYPT:
I noticed that it could be really difficult to operate when /data partition is encrypted (can't view your internal storage from TWRP) and MTP/ADB is unavailable (can't transfer files from computer to phone).
So I included 2 flashable zips in recovery image itself.
They are located in /twres/flashables/.
To disable encryption/dm-crypt, just simply flash "no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip". It will disable dm-crypt and make /data encryption optional. Then you can go to Wipe menu to wipe your /data partition to finally disable encryption.
To root, just simply flash "Magisk-v12.0-arm64.zip". It will install Magisk on your phone.

As mentioned in the S8+ thread, I'm using the G950F and can get into TWRP fine. But once there, the touch-screen doesn't respond.

Thank you for your quick work.
I can't flash anything because my phone can't mount /data in recovery. I don't know why tried various methodes
EDIT: a full wipe made the job, working perfectly! Thank you
So how do you get into Download mode or Recovery mode in the S8 with no hard home button? Haven't seen that definitively answered anywhere.

This is why I regret getting the snapdragon variant. I'll make sure to get the exynos note 8 when released
Anyone tried Android Pay with Magisk to confirm it works?
Aside from that awesome work!
@mwilky I made a detailed tutorial on how to install TWRP and ROOT the Galaxy S8 on YouTube. It would be great if you could put it in the first post so people can easily see how to flash and root their device. Thanks a lot for your implication, I got my device 5 days ago and now it's completely ROOTED. Long live XDA Developers!
Just booted to Download mode, and it said: "rpmb fuse blown" Wonder what that is? Also the recovery looks a bit more useful and I entered a maintenance mode, looked like a slimmed down recovery
do I have to erase data or can I just install root?
Used the updated link and now it's working perfectly. Can even use my banking apps which used to always manage to detect root! Thanks for getting us root so quickly!
thanks
You can backup apps with data with Helium before wiping, saving some hours of manual restoration of app settings

This is a custom Rom I made for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 LTE (SM-T285), which suits my tastes.
If you have suggestions, send me a PM.
UPDATE 09/07/2016
================
A newer version that runs "root" (sepolicy constrained) scripts can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-0-lte-2016-sm-t3455788
Use the above version instead if you want to experiment with features like apps 2 sdcard.
Modifications:
* Based on LMY47V.T285XXU0APCN
* Stock Boot and Recovery (Not much choice since the bootloader is locked)
* Removed Touchwiz launcher and redundant samsung apps (Hancom office, Kidzone), replaced with Trebuchet
* Enabled r/w to the external SD Card
Installation Instructions:
Odin or Heimdall Required.
--FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK--
1. Make sure to backup of your data and have a copy of your stock Rom in case something goes wrong.
2. Make sure your device is OEM unlocked. (Enable Developer settings and Enable the OEM unlock settings)
3. Extract ZIP file below and flash the tar.md5 file using ODIN, for details on this kindly look for instructions in the xda site.
4. For Heimdall you can use 7zip to extract the system.img from the tar.md5 and just flash the system.img itself.

You have to go to download mode and then use Odin to flash. Unfortunately this does not root the T285.

Hi,
Anyone tried Pokemon Go update 0.37 with this ROM? The update fails to start for me. It prompts device/os version is incompatible.
I reverted back to version 0.35 and it works fine.

Yeah the newest version checks for xposed and a bunch of other things. Actually a lot of people were pissed that they did this. You'd probably need to revert back to stock if you want to play. Only systemless root and xposed with magisk works for Pokemon go now.

Also if you want more details on what is going on search google for "pokemon go safetynet". Basically most custom roms and not just this device should fail the test.

Hello and thank you for your work with this device. Currently I am looking for a bypass for the factory reset protection on my sm t280. I have flashed the stock md5 file 3+ times attempting to do a complete data wipe and reset, and this doesnt remove the lock. Any ideas?

To FRP unlock you have to go to developer settings and switch oem unlock to false. The stock rom should have it unless you are using a carrier locked version that I a! not aware of.

FRP is specifically designed to prevent flashing if you can't login to the device. You won't be able to flash unless the person has turned off oem unlock beforehand. I am not aware of any method to bypass this on this device.
Also the T280 and T285 have slightly different hardware so using a different recovery image is not recommended. Also since both devices have a locked bootloader, I highly doubt you can even change the recoveries from stock as I would imagine samsung using different keys for both. At the worst case it still always possible to reflash them back to stock if you do want to try

And thank you so much for selling it. I don't speak enough Spanish to make the ordeal of getting one of the T285M's from so america worthwhile. I was planning on sticking with my T239M for awhile, then I saw your T285M on ebay.
I've dirty flashed jedld's T285 debloated rom, then dirty flashed his T285 tinker rom on top of that. Both onto my T285M. Working flawlessly. Wished he'd kept the mail app, but without touchwiz I guess that wasn't possible.
Something else they blocked in the kernel or with SElinux on the T285M is screen mirroring. Can only cast directly from apps.
Still I am happy overall. Now looking for a castrated version of daemonsu!

Now my contact in S. America will not even reply to me
Contemplating on getting the Samsung J max 7.0 dual sim...yes no U.S lte but has an 8mp camera and a flash...similar to the T285 otherwise...can't say how many times I needed the flash for photos or even if for looking at labels peering into dim areas behind a monitor or tv..maybe end up in same pickle of no root...will see (number is SM-T285YD so it is based off the T285 it seems-maybe a Latin American version soon?)
Also trying to get the T705M from another source but taking forever...low hopes think it will come through

got another one - white color ...as a gift...God Bless - great device battery life is just incredible - nothing fancy but does its job...keeping this one (had it since early November) gave up on the 705m
Is this ROM compatible with Google Safetynet? I can't seem to log into Pokemon GO since I installed Tinker edition, so I'm thinking to switch to this one instead.
Haven't tried it but it should work.
Is the root part contained in boot.img or in system.img? In other words, when using Heimdall I should flash both system.img and boot.img, isn't it?
I'm getting bootloops with CM13, Omni and I don't know how I got Tinker working, I kind of remember flashing boot.img, then wiping, then flashing system.img, then wiping again.
EDIT: got this one working too by flashing boot.img (Heimdall complains it cannot receive confirmation msg) reboot into download again, then flashing system.img (this time heimdall does reboot the phone). however, pokemon go still wont connect due to google's safetynet compliance.
I'll try flashing recovery in case it is TWRP the one clashing with Safetynet.
PD: I didn't backup stock at the beggining of the process so I'm pretty much screwed with Pokemon until I can afford a new phone. But if someone has a stock ROM for T285MUBU0API2, please ping me.
EDIT2 Got pokemon working. I reinstalled TWRP (this ROM's recovery is the stock one, of course), then flashed unSU. It removed SuperSU binary and Google SafeNet got working again. I can't believe that, after so much hours I've put into finding the best custom ROM for this crappy phone, 95% of the time was spent in trying to get Pokemon GO running. I'm close to 40, FML.
This is for the Sprint SM-T587P "gtaxlqltespr" Galaxy Tab A 10.1 variant only.
As far as I can tell, the Nougat update came out for the Sprint Variant sometime around the 20th of September 2017. Update to the T587PVPU1BQI1 Nougat update if you have not already.
1. Read all instructions, there are no known issues. Be on 7.0.0 official. (QI1)
2 Enable Developer Options. Settings, About Device, Software info, tap on build number until it is enabled.
3. Enable OEM unlock and USB Debugging in the Developer Options menu.
There are a couple options here. You can do any combination of the following:
install TWRP
root via superuser (requires installing TWRP)
disable dm-verity (requires installing TWRP)
root by flashing magisk patched bootimage (does not require TWRP)
disable force-encryption (requires installing twrp)(required if you want TWRP to see /data/ files)(not required for flashing zips such as superuser through TWRP)
To install TWRP:
1. Boot into download mode
2. Launch ODIN, Uncheck "Auto Reboot" in the options tab. Flash included TWRP file in the AP section of ODIN.
To Disable Force-Encryption (if want to see /data/ in twrp)
1. Install TWRP recovery
2 Boot into TWRP recovery
3. Format Data
4. Reboot into TWRP from TWRP reboot menu, without rebooting into system.
5. Flash the included superuser.zip to disable force-encryption and dm-verity
To Root via superuser or disable dm-verity
1. Install TWRP recovery.
2. Boot into TWRP recovery
3. flash superuser.zip (this needs to be done with ADB if you have not disabled force-encryption and are unable to see /data/)
Superuser root provided as-is. Magisk is the recommended root. If you prefer the outdated, beta, un-updatable phh superuser binary which breaks safetynet that's all you. However it is the only way i have found to disable dm-verity.
Magisk v16 root:
Device is stock
If you have not installed twrp, disabled dm-verity, or disabled force encryption:
1. Boot into Download Mode
2. Use the AP section of ODIN to install "fe-dm-patched_boot.img.tar"
Disabled dm-verity, but NOT force-encryption
If you did not format DATA in TWRP and have installed superuser.zip using ADB:
1. Boot into Download Mode
2. Use the AP section of ODIN to install "fe-patched_boot.img.tar"
Disabled Both
If you disabled dm-verity AND disabled force-encryption:
1. Boot into Download Mode
2. Use the AP section of ODIN to install "Magiskv16_patched_boot.img.tar"
WIFI IS NOW WORKING AFTER ROOT/BOOT PATCH
Recovery: twrp-3.1.1-0-gtaxlqltespr.tar
phh's Superuser.zip

This is a proper root via the magisk patched boot. There is no reason to flash the recovery at all.

Should work or does? You're right, there are many tab a variants, and unlike the ones you develop for, this variant is a snapdragon 625. While you say su 2.82 should work, you would also think 2.72 would work. Bootloop. I included a working su to flash standalone that DOES work in my op for people who do not care about systemless magisk, which is the recommended root at any rate.

Any custom kernels made for this model?

Haha, I didn't realize you had to subscribe to your own threads, I didn't know people were even replying in here for weeks. Thank you for attempting to compile, i know there are some tutorials on xda, i'm pretty sure an flashing an SELinux permissive kernel will fix the wifi issue with the magisk root. I do not know that I'll ever have the time or motivation to compile it myself, but I can help to test.
Thanks arlyn! Will definitely be trying this out.
Says root is not properly installled.... any ideas? I followed directions to a T... even flashed back to stock nougat and tried a 2nd time...
Introducing the first Oreo ROM for the S8 and S8+, its basic don't complain.
First of all, before you go any lower read this:
THIS IS NOT ROOT! This is a custom system image that I modded and allows me to add or remove files and still have it boot and keep Knox intact along with Saftey Net. Unless you mess with the build.prop device stuff, Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, and Google Pay should all work.
Second, If you break your phone or mess up and it boot loops, just flash a stock image and start over. Don't come here crying over it not working because these do work and I have had testers use them and run this.
Third, this is pixelish because all I did was add the pixel launcher and a couple pixel files along with S9+ messenger. This is more of an open project.
Forth, If you are a dev interesting and making your own custom system image, message me and I will tell you the ways of this magic.
NOW FOR THE GOOD PART!
This ROM currently contains the stock Pixel launcher, a couple new /etc/sysconfig pixel files, and the S9 messenger. Knox still works and so does Saftey Net. This has yet to be debloated.
To install it:
1. Go to download mode and flash the file install BL.tar with Modded Odin, all files will be linked in like post 2 or 3, I don't know.
2. Reboot back into download and flash the system.tar (names may vary) in the AP slot with the options reparation and NAND erase all selected, you will also need to use the pit file there. This step will say fail in Odin but that's good.
3. Reboot BACK to download mode and flash the CRB9 AP, BL, and CP. In between the system flashing and this step, hit reset at the bottom of Odin to reset the options.
4. Let the phone reboot. It will boot loop, that's good. Now go to recovery and let this boot loop. It will say something about a cache error, that's perfect.
5. From recovery go to download mode, it might be difficult and you may get to upload mode, just keep holding the keys until you get there. Now flash the CSC file.
6. After flashing CSC you should be in recovery, now clear data and cache. Hit reboot the system or whatever and you should be good!
7. Enjoy whatever is in the ROM because I assume some people are going to link back here at some point.
THANKS to @me2151 for finding this and telling me how to do it and such

How to mod it yourself!
This is a little thing on how to mod it yourself.
You need to download the system for the device, just use the one I have above. Then you need to mount it in Linux using the command sudo mount -o loop system.img.ext4 folder name. This should mount as an r/w. I did it in Kali Linux and didn't have issues while Ubuntu did some funky stuff. Then you mod the systems normally like making a ROM. Whenever you mod something you need to set the proper permissions with chmod and context with sudo setfattr -n security.selinux -v ubject_r:system_file:s0 filename. You might need to install attr to get it. Then once you're done, unmount with sudo umount folder name and then add it to a .tar file without any compression and flash it in Odin like the instructions. Just use your system instead of mine. If you make it and post it, just credit me2151 and me (mweinbach).
Told yall i was sitting on it til oreo release
This has such great potential. Thank you guys for bringing hope back to Snapdragon models!
Thanks so much.

Probably not.
Thanks a lot! Can you post how to create a custom rom on here for us devs?
I know this rom is for Snapdragon but is there any chance that your methods would apply to exynos firmware too? A custom non-knox tripping rom would be great
Nice work anyway!

@me2151 you know what makes this work, can you check?
S8 files up!
Thanks for sharing this! :good:
What's the main difference between this and the Stock Samsung ROM? Does it have bloatwares if I install on my AT&T variant? I'm sorry, I'm asking since it's not listed on the first post exactly aside from a couple of things you mentioned.

This has bloat. It also has S9 messenger and pixel launcher. Also some pixel stuff. It's more what others can add.

I am going to do a debloated one at some point. For now, you can just disable the apps with like sabs.

I can set perms, I am going to leave that to a better ROM dev who understands it more. I would probably kill it.
Hey @mweinbach, thanks for taking the time to make this rom! I have a quick question. I have an S8 and am currently running PartCyborgRom (build AQI6). Can I just flash the firmware and system files without doing anything else beforehand? If not, what steps should I take before installing this?
hi guys
after a lot searching around i could not find any guide on xda to install twrp on power 5.yes i have come across other models but not this specific one .then searching on net i came to know one of guide to install twrp..after trying whole day i finally go through unlocking boot loader and flashing twrp. but problem i am facing is i cant reboot my phone into custom recovery it would reboot into its own android recovery.
any ideas what could be wrong or there is special recovery.img for ulefone power 5.
what could be that i cant figure out
I have the same problem
I dont know when some tech or expert will solve our problem..
head to 4pda.ru and check there, from what I have read it's seems they made it (not without hassle, though).
Thanks mate i will have look and get back to you
I have the same problem, I follow the russian guide too, it doesn't work.
Any luck with this guys?
I followed instructions from 4PDA, however,
1) if I flash ROM v1 I can get into TWRP but the screen EVERYWHERE looks broken (so, something with the drivers is messed up)
2) if I flash ROM v2 I cannot boot into TWRP, as it it just isn't there.
I tried both methods of flashing files, with MDT tool and via ADB/Fastboot, the results are the same.

I just got the upgraded Power 5S, and was also wondering if there is any root method for it. From what I have been reading and gathering, it seems there is no sure way just yet. If anyone has any luck, please do let us know.

No custom ROMs as far as I know.
Don't expect to see those anytime soon. Custom ROMs require a large user base. This one will have a marginal amount of users.
Rooting should however be possible. You can use Google translate to navigate 4PDA forums and install TWRP.
Mixed Results

The issue is that there are a couple of mixed results on the rooting. I haven't actually seen proof of any working.
Russians say it's working for them.
There rooting sticks if you delete a file mentioned in their tutorial, a file located in /system folder, before rebooting for the first time.
https://www.stupdroid.com/2018/07/root-twrp-ulefone-Power-5.html
Worked for me after trying 2-3 times.
But Using root with Galaxy S launcher(my preferred one) not stable for long, after some time it starts giving issues. If you load twrp and then root, then continue using stock launcher. Xposed working too, but most of the modules not compatible with Oreo 8.1.
Note : DONT load ANRC and similar modules of Xposed which alter basic root files, your phone will refuse to boot and you will have to load the OS again. Gravity Box also starts giving issues after some time. I use an older version of Whatsapp extensions, Xwifi(Wifi name in status bar) and status bar download progress. These 3 are all I need.
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-ulefone-power-5/
Same guide, works but once you unlock bootloader and load twrp your internal memory will get wiped out so make sure you backup and reload important files
TWRP 3.2.3
So my UMIDIGI Plus E got stolen a few days ago (thanks to the thief for helping me get rid of that piece of junk) - I have the Ulefone Power 5 now. None of the TWRPs I could find worked for me, so I ported it from TWRP I found for the Power 3 (and tested it - it's working). So I uploaded it to my MediaFire account (and have the link), but I've never posted on XDA before so I can't post the link to it here because I don't have 10 posts yet....
I've uploaded it to Needrom dot com, but it has not yet been reviewed. You guys can try to search for it there.
If I could, then I would've uploaded it here.
UPDATE: I've just posted it at the My Digital Life forums under the title: TWRP 3.2.3 for Ulefone Power 5 (and 5S)

not working for me , always the ulefone recovery !
have you flashed recovery img which is under your zip ?
I've done the same and not working
Sorry to ask, but is there a clear solution/instruction? I've tried to flash the img. files provided by jojy thomas, but my phone would just request me to enter my casual password with the on-screen keyboard crashing, just to tell me that the decryption failed and have me factory reset my phone. I couldn't get into TWRP in any way, and just had to go along with everything else.
Finally, after countless hours of development by multiple developers, it looks like we finally have a fully working TWRP for our HD1925s!
You can find it here, https://github.com/Systemad/android_device_oneplus_hotdog/releases although make sure you scroll down for version 1.2 (for some reason it shows version 1.1 on top)
Mad promps to @systemad for putting together all of @CaptainThrowback and @mauronofrio hard work and finally somehow finding a way to make decryption work perfectly fine on both stock OOS10 and OOS11!
Thank GOD! FINALLY! big props to the devs! Pm me a BTC address and I'll show some love!

This is a beautiful thing! I've been needing TWRP to flash the Kali NetHunter kernel! lol
Excellent work guys.
Now with this, I should be able to do that idea from the other thread I made? Is there a way to get this twrp without losing anything, make a nandroid backup of current position, then go for the android 10 install and block updates?
Hopefully my procrastinating paid off?
Regardless of that, this is amazing and will be underappreciated but please know it IS appreciated
Very Nice!
Unfortunately, the decryption doesn't seem to work with LineageOS, like this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-lineageos-18-1-android-11-unofficial-mar3.4192829/
I just unlocked my phone today and seen this. Thank you. Been many years since I've done all of this, now to figure out to do this stuff all over again

I'd follow the link in the third post and use those ones. They're newer, been using the oos one without any issues. There are 3 versions depending on your rom.
I can't vouch for all the features, I haven't tried data recovery and the weird built in fastboot mode doesn't work and seems to have replaced fastbootd (pretty sure fastbootd was part of oos recovery) but bootloader mode still functions for fastboot and anything fastbootd was needed for seems unnecessary with functional TWRP since it can decrypt and access the filesystem.
UPDATE: Figure I'd mention that fastboot from TWRP actually does work,
Windows doesn't seem to detect the device as a fastboot/bootloader interface in TWRP's fastboot mode.
Manually installing the drivers from "Show all devices" Then going to google, inc then ADB fixed it.
I have also confirmed this is fastbootd as "getvar is-userspace" returned "yes"
Thank you for the advice

OnePlus 7T Pro (Regular & McLaren)
The OnePlus 7T Pro is a 6.67" phone with a 90Hz 1440x3120p display. The Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855+ chipset is paired with 8/12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The main camera is 48+8+16MP and the selfie camera is 16MP. The battery has a 4085mAh capacity.

But keep in mind McLaren in this context does not necessarily mean our models.
There was a 4G McLaren model released in China/Europe as a result I'd look at posts to see if a 5G McLaren user has reported any issues or success first. For the most part a lot of the stuff there will work but I'd still be cautious all the same.
