Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (SnapDragon) wifi problems - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

The wifi signal strength is normal and good before, and it becomes worse about one month before, the wifi signal strength becomes weak, I have tested with other phones. At the beginning, I think it is the problem of the MIUI, then I flash Cm14.1 to see, but the wifi signal strength still the same. Can anyone suggest any method?

how exactly did you measure wifi strength?
and what can possibly go wrong with weaken wifi signal?
care to explain?????

I have already fixed the wifi problem with opening the case of the phone and put a soft metal clip between the two wifi contacting points and the antenna.
I think it is the problem of the aging of the the two wifi contacting points .

I did some search on the internet first, finding out that many ppl having the same problems due to the reasons of falling down the phone on ground.
It is easy, First open the case, then open the upper part which is with 4 screws. then remove it and you can see there is two contacting point on the upper right side.
They are are the contacting point for wifi.
Just use some soft clip to increase the contact area and install back the upper part. that's all

i hope you already solved the problem, but if not, try this out, it work for me at least now my redmi note 3 wifi keep connect and the signal increase, first open your phone back cover (you can use thick material such as guitar pick) then at the top remove 4 screws (one screw is hidden in the back of small mi sticker) then remove the black small cover, there at two contact point put something (for me i use aluminium foil, i take it from coaxial antena cable, cut small square or so put in there) that's it put it back, try to test it first before you put the cover back because a little bit hard to open the cover though. goodluck....

This works in Xiaomi Redmi 3S? I am with the same problem, but i am not sure how to open it and where are the part that i must put something in that two contact point.

This is a very weird issue. I had very good wifi strength before and with the miui updates the signal is very weak now. Redmi 2 and any other phone has better signal.
I have the same router than before.
But its strange that other ROM also has weak signal... Because redmi note 3 pro used to be considered a phone with wifi signal strength

I have my phone suddenly got low wifi signal. I try your suggestion, and it works. Wifi signal is as good as new phone.
I do both put paper under the pin to leverage the connection point, AND put aluminum foil to the contact point in the small black cover to increase the contact area. Not sure which action do the magic

Why is the Antenna on the bottom of the phone?

Why is the Antenna on the bottom of the phone? I'll be holding my phone in an area with no bars and when I turn the phone upside down I will pick up 2 bars. I turn it back to normal and both bars go away. This is very annoying. Granted when I make a call the bottom of the phone is pointing up, BUT what about trying to download emails, or just holding your phone and trying to browse the internet.. I've seriously turned my phone upside down to do this.
As much as I love this phone, the Antenna on the bottom and the location of the micro USB slot might be enough to push me to the iphone 5 if it has a slide out keyboard.
What do you all think? Is it just me?
The antennas are at the top corners of the phone. If you take off the battery cover, you will see some gold prongs, those slip into the groves that are on the phone itself, Those are the antennas...

Those are the secondary antennas actually. The main battery is in almost every phone at the bottom, hence the external antenna plug on the TB is right under the kick stand.

I think it's probably due to RF emissions being a little less close to your brain; the evidence seems to go back and forth over the years re: cellphone antennas and brain tumors, so who knows?

Seems like the EVO is better in a few ways... The battery cover goes over the whole phone hence a flush cover for the extended battery...
Also and it's been out longer more assy's avab.

Yup if you take it off the port is right under.
Does anyone know if you could connect an external antenna to get a little more consistent signal on the 4g. I get a signal but not that great at my house. If so what would i need?
Thanks
HTC phones for the last 3 years have all had the cellular antennas on the bottom of the phone. Most Nokia phones too. Just about every manufacturer has been doing this, minimize radiation to the brain.
The downside is your hand blocks signal so you have to learn to keep the bottom exposed to avoid signal attenuation.

Keep your AT&T and iPhone problems to yourself
only problem is that cellphones don't release ionizing radiation so there is no danger for tumors. even if it did it would be about the same amount of radiation as eating a bananna once a day.
Ok so the antenna is at the bottom of the Thunderbolt... Mines not having any issues is yours?
Simple fix, install adw and enable
Full rotation
Flip the phone upsidedown wala

I'm not sure what's the issue with the antenna. I found reception on my Bolt to be exceptional.

Antenna Mod [Fix]

[Fix] I accidentally messed up my signal by pushing the little button on the lower right side of the battery. don't do this I could only achieve EDGE after, if that. so what I did is use a 4 inch copper wire and electrical tape. place one end of the copper wire in the little hole(it's a part of the antenna receiver group) and use a thin piece of electrical tape to tape it up the back side by the battery. now I have a better signal then before. I recommend not doing this if your signal is still working. Do not me if you mess it up, this should only be a fix if you need it.

Very interesting. Didn't know that. Don't worry, I won't try it.
lol, thanks now we knoe that we don't have to mess with that little hole....
could u upload some pictures???
Pics
Here are some pics. the red circle is the hole will the antenna receiver in it, in which i have inserted the copper wire. The orange line is an illustration of the copper wire and the green circle is the actual copper wire. you can see where i very shoddily taped it XD

Dudeeeeeeeeeee! I got this very late. Last week my phone went off without notice at all, so, trying to make it come back I pressed this litle thing thinking it was a kind of hardware reset switch... Anyways, my cell came to live after 3 days, at least accepting my ON command and showing low battery (this is another issue) but now the signal reception is real poor (only 2 bars -105 dBm 4 asu) and yes...now I know that I have screwed it... Let me try your approach with the cooper wire.
Thanks
Guys be VERY CAREFULL as that to me looks like a port for an external aerial. if you short the iner pin with the outer sheild you could do some real damage to your phones transmiters/recevers
Also another thing to take into consideration is that aerial are a certain length to what freqs they work at
ie the FM areial in your car is shorter than the AM aerial, and the digital one is shorter again.
There is so much theory behind aerials that it is not funny! (im a comms tech by trade)
Just PLEASE be carefull guys!

So did this help you or not? Screenshots?
Guys I am having the same problem of low signal at various locations. Pls do let me know if it is advisable for putting a jumper of copper wire as described.
Do I need to solder it with the hole ?
Will I loose my network permanently ?
Up to you
I would advise trying a different carrier or ask someone with the same phone/carrier how their signal is. I would only use these methods for emergencies like my situation, or like the other where he had next to no signal where he lived. As for soldering, i never thought of it, i revised my method, which i should post screen shots, by placing a larger wire in the hole and using a glue gun to hold it in place. I take no responsibility for antenna loss, because once you shove something in there, you won't have a signal unless something is in there. Good luck, i hope you figure out what's best for you and don't forget to post your results =D

Thx.. but same situation as yours the signal keeps fluctuationg n sometimes no signal so its kind no-no use sometimes or bad signal.
So I was thinking of putting a copper wire as suggested and checking it out.
As you mentioned like in near future if the wire breaks or think of removing it, I wont be able to get any signal in furture ..
Do you suggest replacing the antena & what would be its cost ?

Send it in, if it's under warranty . If it's just an old phone you have, and you still want to use it, by all means ty it out, i guarantee a better signal as long as you use a long enough wire. When i switched to a thicker one, i got a better signal, but the battery cover doesn't close all the way, but that doesn't matter since i use a case and i don't notice it.

Help Fixing GPS - Timmy E86 (mediatek)

My 2nd post with this accound but ive been a member for qutie a while but was inactive for a few years and cant recover my account.
Anyhow i bought a Timmy E86 . Its pretty cheap but pretty good apart from the GPS
It has the mediatek 6582 chip.
Ive been through just about every mediatek gps fix.
EPO Downloads
AGPS servers
MTK Engineering mode
FasterGps
er
When i got the phone GPS signal was non existant. even after using many different gps fix apps.
I then discoverd that without the cover on and the antenna peeled back i managed to get signal, put cover back on and signal goes. So the cover is blocking signal.
I extended the antenna with a make shift foil antenna, which improved the signal slightly and allowed signal with the cover on. Great thinking its fixed, however navigation was terrible, loosing signal and the heading facing wrong way.
Then it lost all signal again after a restart and woukldnt get signal again randomly until smoe while later. Satilites show but zero signal.
The antenna is rubbish on this phone,
I know this is probably the main source of the problem, i plan on remove the case cleaning the contacts and installing a better antenna, either made of copper tape or perhaps something else.
But im pretty sure theres something else wrong deeper down in the software.
I done some further testing yesterday managed to get gps signal and 3d fix. Since i was being a passanger rather than driver i could see what was gong on. as soon as we started moving the satilite signals would drop to 0.....

Finally tracked the issue down to really poor GPS antenna.
Remoived it, replaced it with bare copper wire from a power cord , made sure it was well twisted so all the strands were together and neat.
Used the end of the GPS antanna that contacted the board and soldered it to the the pad of the old gps antanne end, so that when the case went back in it contacted the board pin.
Success. GPS lock indoors at a window and still picking up satilites away from window but not enough for lock.
Until i screwed everything back together and tried to put the back on, the cable was too thick and it pushed the board. GPS signal no longer works.
Even tried replacing with thinner cable and solering direct to board but same result. satalites in view but no signal, not even outside now.
Guess ive either burned out the gps somewhere or something on the board got damaged from the cable pushing on it. Even removed the SMD contact pin and soldered wire directly onto the board. Still nothing

Given up on getting this to work. either ive broken something in the gps or the phones setup has went iffy.
Satilites are apparently in view but dont ever get a signal from any, all 12 satalites sit there with zero signal even outdoors.
The easy solution?
Use my old phone that can get a lock inside next to a window as a bluetooth GPS reciever. Using Bluetooth GPS output, and then the bluetooth GPS app on my timmy phone.
Result? Perfect navigation using Tom Tom GO. This is actually a much better solution since the phones GPS is off its using much less power. My old phone is an alcatel one touch which is pretty good for battery even with gps on plus with the screen off doesnt need charged while using it for hours as gps+bluetooth.
Another advantage, i can have a gps app open on old phone for speed and have a GPS speedometer running while navagation running on my larger timmy e86.
My recomendation is just get a bluetooth GPS reciever if your gps sucks.

On rear(left-up side) are two plates, which conecting to wifi antena. I think that are disconnected. I resolve this by replacing rear cover.

After replacing rear(back) cover Wifi works perfect. btw. I've bought black cover(my M4 is white) - looks awesome

I tried to repair this w/o replacing - Yeah, it worked, signal is better, but still poor. Cleaning the plates gives no results. Idk why.
It's not hard. After replace m4 is still waterproof (tested).

@outofmemory13 finally i am able to open ur image. However it is not clear enaugh for me,sorry. So:
1. Is it located at top left of the back side?
2. You replaced the back cover and wifi signal work better?
Exactly.
on the back cover there's black sticker - this is NFC antena shared with Wi-Fi.
w/o antena the wifi works... just like IrDa in old phone So... That's why I'm think, that is problem with connection between cover and main PCB.
The antena maybe is damaged by default. Also I forget to mention that the antena maybe doesn't adhere into cover(check this by pressing this place* with little pressure - if signal is better - let me know)
*top left > 1cm down.
It does not work for me, even I take off the rear case (without case) no improvement, still weak.

Yeah, without the rear case it'll works like this.... even worse.
1. use a multimeter to check that two copper plates have around 0 resistance.
2. It can be weird, but try add some tinfoil(into the plates) to improve connection between cover and pcb. Carefully. And check again.
If doesn't work - it's a problem with Wi-Fi sensor. Unrepairable.
I've fixed 3 M4 with the same problem so far. Can't belive, that in this case all my instructions aren't working, maybe there's another issue, I guess... Anyway, check it and show the result.
#I don't like English... case, case... the same words and another meaning...
I have no luck on this and plan so sell the phone thank you all for the advices.

LG G5 network problems after attempting GPS fix - only 4G/3G - no 2G signal

As the title goes I tried to make a GPS fix buy adding a little thin plastic under the pins showed in the video tutorial I used but after assembling back the phone noticed that I cannot connect to 2G anymore. I switch to 4G and 3G with full coverage but when I try to went back on 2G the network signal drops and phone says "Emergency calls only". I opened it again and removed the plastic board and switched it on and got slmost perfect 2G coverage but my microphone stopped working - nobody was able to hear me speaking so I opened it again and added a little card board piece on the place and now I have good mic with good 4G/3G signal but again with no 2G signal again. Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong ? Also where are the exact places of the 2G/3G/4G/GPS antenas ? I travel a lot on places with low 4G and even low 3G coverage so I really need the 2G mode again. Please help me fix it as it was before. I need 2G more than GPS so if somebody tell me how to reverse this would really appreciate it, thank you !

Ima follow this one closely. Mine has the very same issues ive bassicly asked the same thing
Mine does it one all three. Rarely picks up 2g gsm network gets crappy 3g and lte. I use lte discovery to verify all this. Now i have noticed that if i pinch the chin or hold the phone like laying in bed only by the chin i get killer signal and even pick up 2g at the same time as lte.
I watched other devices all get band 5 lte and gsm at the same time.
I cant find any confirmation on where the antennes are even located in this device.
Today I noticed that my sim tray stays slightly out of the phone body so I tried to push it in and it wasn't going any furder as before. So I though there must be something in the tray preventing it to push in till the end and I used a magnifyer to see inside and noticed a small plastic that seemed from the same material of the pick I used to open the phone so I got it out and now the sim tray is closing nice again and now I'm able to connect to 2G but still the reception is not good as it was and it drops from time to time... Still this is an advance in the right direction. I think I had broken or bent or moved something slightly off place from these several interventions so I'm f****d up.
Please guys don't try to make any gps fixes because you will do more harm than good ! That is my advice !
If still somebody can help me, please write ! Thank you !

Nobody here is engineer at LG. And nobody here has any real solution for GPS / 2G / 3G fix. Looks like GPS breaks again even after sending it to repair. This LG G5 has been the crappiest phone I ever bought. I'll be buying a G6 soon.

The 3pins in the video are for the Volume buttons. The REAL GPS antenna are the ones next to the headphone jack.
So far I experimented that the cell antennas lies at the top of the phone since covering the top-middle section of the phone Cell signal drops.
Maybe the plastic shim you put in is too thick that it's interfere with other internal components, like the black RF antenna ribbon that runs across the top section of the G5. See if removing the plastic piece resolves the problem
Hi guys,
Just want to let you know that I gave the phone to a service and they found out that I broke some of the pins even without noticing. That is why this problem occured! They were able to replace them so now my phone is live and kicking again with full network coverage on all bands (2g,3g,4g). So happy with it ! So go ahead and bring your phones to a repair service center and make sure it will be a good one! First I went to affiliate LG service and they told me that most of the things are unrepairable and will have to change the whole motherboard which costs as a new phone so I lost any hope fixing it but later a friend of mine recommended another service where the guy told me he will inspect all the parts of the phone and will call me if he finds anything suspicious or broken. So I left the phone and after 2 days he called back and told me that 4 pins were broken and 2 more damaged and bent badly. He also told me he thinks that if we change them the problem should be solved so I agreed and he did fantastic work on the phone and now works as new !
So don't be disappointed and find a good service where they can try to help you. Also when you are doing some mods to your phones please be very careful!! I confess that I wasn't careful while doing the mod - I was at work and even didn't had the necessary tools for the task, also the colleagues were around and distracting me so I wasn't able to focus entirely on the task and did more harm than good! Good luck !
Thread may be closed, problem solved !
