Oh then you can't.
What kind of changes would be needed for a port?

It could be possible, but the devices probably use different drivers so a lot of stuff will be broken. Why don't you try it out.
I don't personally have either of them, trying to decide. I greatly prefer smaller phones because of my hands.

I don't think that it would be possible. There will be hardware differences between the two(apart from chipsets) like camera sensors, fingerprint scanner manufacturers, display manufacturers and other stuff like that. So, I don't think these ROMs will even boot on Redmi 4 prime. I highly recommend you to stick with Redmi 4 prime ROMs.

Is this close enough to the prime roms and stuff will work. Or is it going to get its on Sub Forum at some point?
I would also like to know the same. Gotta ditch the stock bs.

Ditto. One of my concerns for getting this tablet was if there would be developer support. I imagine though, that porting things from the prime shouldn't be too hard, although I also know how much work it could be + the processor is technically different. I can't wait either way!!!!
asus does a good job with their upgrades. what advantages do you all see with custom rom's on a device with such good support?
I guess what I'm looking for is root + custom kernels. This is my first tablet and first asus product so I'm no expert in this field haha.

custom roms are usually always better because they bring features and tweaks not found in stock experience. alot of times they can also be more stable than stock. just go to developement section and look at some of the roms feature lists. it can completely change and improve your experience with the device.

the prime is T30 tegra3 & the 300 is T30L version. the prime version is clocked higher/more powerful.
later model primes have T30.. The first model primes has the AP30H tegra 3 in it. it does get confusing...lol

I read somewhere that its a different version of the tegra 3 processor. Not major, but like a different model. I don't have a source atm though. So until then take with a grain of salt.

Amen to that.
I am literally sitting spamming F5 looking for this info
I'd be content for at least a little while if I could just get mine rooted.
I would love Root as well. Considering that the 300 hasn't even been out a week officially (got mine yesterday), I think we'll see some good news in due time.
In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Its fairly easy to port ROMS from Nexus 5. However reading log cats is the main thing here. Thankfully most people can't read log cats so it stops the noobs flood the place with terrible ports. To answer your question yes it can.

Just asking, because i'm really fan of AOSP/light roms.
We don't know availability of Nexus5 (already out of stock), so G2 could be a great alternative to Nexus5 (with better battery lol)

Yes, but is it better to port rom from Nexus5 directly (with probably minor adaptations), or to adapt a common CM10.2 tree to G2 devices ?

there is a guy with a video on youtube that says he has files to download to the g2 to make it a virtual nexus 5. he demos it and says the files are in the description but I did not see them there. He says no root is required and it does look like a nexus 5, but I don't know if it is kitkat or not. it also looked like he was getting some FCs too.

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.

of course it's possible to port franco kernel to the g2. the kernel sources are released from lg afaik.
but someone has to do it which is really bad with that many different device configurations.
give it some time and you will see kernels coming, i'm sure

So I'm planning on buying the Redmi Note 3 with 3gb of ram and the snapdragon processor. My question is, is there any good roms for this device? I hace checked the threads here and most people seem to have quite many problems with the few roms that exists.
There are some good ROMs like CM13 or RR, using RR since a few days and I have no problems.

Resurrection Remix Rom.
CM13 , RR and Flyme OS are stable roms now .
So I've been trying a number of Nougat Roms lately and have found curiously that all of (atleast the one based on strix cm base) have insane volume output (like 50% more at least from stock) through speakers. I was wondering if the devs did this knowingly or is it some software amplification hack which will eventually damage the speakers

This is how it used to be!! Atleast on MIUI ROMs. This is one of my favourite things of CM14, I no longer have to press my ear toward the speaker.
The reason for this is I think because TheStrix added back the MIUI LP edits to the kernel, so it's similar to MIUI kernel now. He mentioned this in the CM13 thread.
So yep, I'm pretty sure it's normal, and hey, enjoy it!!

I have already moved on to cm-14.0 dev. You can follow it on CM gerrit: here
Also I have rebased kernel to N CAF tag and added back Xiaomi edits from LP release. (Camera, battery drivers are 100% from Xiaomi kernel release with no edits regarding adding/removing any new support)
Keep calm and wait for it
Also, wanted to know ov16880_f16v01a and ov16880_omida05 camera sensors are present on some devices too? Anyone with them here?
On CM, I just now added s5k5e8_z5e8yab thought it was the only one missing. If those two exist too on fewer RN3, let me know so that I can add support for those 2 sensors in CM.

If a Snapdragon version arrives, you wont be able to use any ROMs developed for it. It will be similar only in name and appearance but if the hardware is different any development will not be cross compatible.
