Hey, iam searching for a replacement for quickpic. Since it has been sold to some strange company, there are no updates and bugs are more and more present with newer Android versions.
So anyone got a replacement? I tried some galleries, but none of them were as good as quick pic. I just want a clean simple way to browse my folders and no time line bull**** or something like that
Check out Piktures, very cool gallery app IMO.

Hey all,
So I was on the phone with my bro and wanted to take a picture of something while I was talking to him. So I hit the Home button, got to the main screen, clicked on my Camera icon and it said "Camera not available while using phone". So I did a search on the forums and only found this thread. It made mention of 3rd party apps but is/are there a rom in development that overcome this limitation? If not, what are some recommended apps to use. Honestly, I like all the features in the stock Vibrant camera app and didn't know if any would actually utilize all their options. This isn't a OMG my phone sucks item, it'd just be filed under things that would be nice to have since my old iPhone 3g actually had this capability.
Any recommendations/help are always appreciated.
FxCamera is what I use. I like it.
My old G1 had that capability as well.
I could also use the camera and media players when the battery was almost dead.
HTC seems to understand we aren't children that need to be smacked when we want to do something they don't think we should [Maybe Apple just didn't think of it though].
I remember my last samsung phone started to limit what you could do when the battery was getting low. nice to have 3rd party apps now.
So I tried the FxCamera app. It's not too bad. Any other recommended apps that get around this annoyance?

I only use FxCamera just in case I take a pic during a call. I like stock better. You can make a shortcut by long pressing homescreen, choose shortcuts, scroll down till you see FxCamera Quick Launch and choose what effect you want (I always use normal) and thats it. So when you are on a call you only one click away of taking a pic instead going in to the menu and choose what effect you want.
Has anyone been able to port a different gallery app? For instance the 3D one (don't know what it is called). The stock picture viewer is slow to render and a bit bothersome...
Google Gallery apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887425&highlight=gallery
And another one that quite a few people like, QuickPic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866827&highlight=gallery
The 3D gallery is available on www.sdx-developers.com under the Samsung Moment downloads. It works great on the NC.
Sent from my Nook Color.

Thanks, but Quickpic only looks at the SD card. Any way to make it look elsewhere?
Seems the same with Google Gallery. Will anything work?
Thanks,
kev
I love the cool iris gallery but it only shows the SDcard as well, which makes me mad
Has anyone tried JustPictures on their NookColor? I use this on my DInc for pics and love it. I am getting a NC on Friday and am hoping to be able to set my photos up the same on both devices this weekend.
Me too. Stock gallery is crap, for sure.
I tried installing google gallery and it wouldn't let me, I'm on 1.0.1 rooted
I use a modified 3D gallery for the Samsung Moment (actually modified for the Spica) ... camera button removed, solid black background, and no flickering thumbnail artifacts.
I've attached it for you!
I'm noticing in my gallery that I have random ad pictures downloaded and I was wondering what's the cause? There are about 4-5 ads so far downloaded into my memory card which are in jpg or some sort of picture format.
i read that some games (like WWF, for example) will save some pics on your sdcard, which may appear in your gallery.
Oh really? Is there anyway to disable that? I don't want to keep on deleting random ads..
you'll have to have root access, and you will want to block ads via hosts file..
some roms do this, i belive cm7 does, unnamed does, dont know about others..
you could probably find an app in the market to do this also..
or buy the pro version of said app (if it has one) and you wont get ads..
Don't feel like rooting my phone... :/ Guess I'll deal with the ads then
Use QuickPic from the market to disable those folders. Or you can manually add .nomedia file in each directory to disable the photo viewer from opening that folder.
You can hide it with QuickPic and still use the default viewer.

Hey, I'm new to this.. First time Android user who jumped from the iPhone 3GS because of how awesome the reviews were for the GS2! Anyways, I had the same issue and did some research and found out the ads for me were coming from Shazam.. A few days ago, they released an updated version of the app and under the changelog apologized for the issue.. Since updating, I haven't seen the ads again in my Gallery.. So if you have Shazam, I would check the market for the update!
hi there.
the devs' of one game (EA's monopoly) were so brilliant to forget to hide their game's pictures and other media from android gallery.
I have added the file .nomedia in all folders that contain the game media, cleared gallery data and rebooted, but the pictures still show up in gallery.
what am i doing wrong?
Would've thought the file would do the trick. Strongly suggest QuickPic. MUCH faster, lighter and has more options. The gallery is a cpu hog.

yeah that's what i thought.
used quickpic on my other phone, liked it. generally want to go stock as much as possible though... weird that it doesnt work the way it should
so there is no known solution for the monopoly issue? its too bad, i really like the game but its messing up my gallery so much

Unfortunately I couldn't find any
I put .nomedia file in every possible sub-folder and rebooted, but the media still showed up. Kind of weird, because ".nomedia" should and has worked in the past... so kind of a combination of EA making this blunder in their game design, and something wacky about the GT ROM not properly rescanning media files...
I ended up deleting the files and uninstalling the game, periodically checking the market whether EA has updated the game... I also sent them a bug report to their support Email in their website (although for support they do not have Android as a platform listed... go figure...) -haven't received an answer yet
^ certainly understand your thoughts... just curious though... the stock gallery is a cpu hog. why not just freeze it and use quickpic? You know from using it you could easily hide/exclude the galleries you did not want scanned/shown and the Tab has proven to run much better for me without the stock Gallery.
I know you mentioned staying stock as much as possible.... just felt I'd beat the drum a little more for those who read this later.

no prob.
i used quickpic on my old Galaxy Tab (and my wife still does).
Gallery in Honeycomb just has a pretty good integration with Google+ and Picasa.
quickpic is a good app, can recommend it definitely.
right now i however just wish that EA would take android programming more serious... it tells me a lot that their user support pages don't even list Android as a platform... they haven't really arrived here yet...
I also have this problem, tried everything and my gallery is still full of monopoly trash . Sad cause I liked the game.
Have you cleared app data for media storage in settings/apps?
not entirely related to your issue, but an interesting side note.... When i plug in my nikon sd card via the usb adapter gallery refuses to show the contents, but quickpic works fine
Never had this with my other droid devices, so defo something odd on the tab re gallery/media scan

Yes and yes
The stock gallery app is.... garbage IMO. Its constantly reordering my images to some arbitary order instead of by name (very annoying because i have pages of documents scanned and named by page number), just overall it feels rather clumsy, it doesnt animate gif files, no respect for .nomedia, etc.
Yeah, technically this is a question but here goes: What gallery applications do you use? If you could rip the gallery app from any device which would you choose and why?
Personally, im thinking of trying to rip the gallery app from the S2 or the galaxy tab, i know the S2 works well with gif files and thus far has not given me the amount of pain the Asus one has.
what do you think?
only thing I hate is that it won't allow you to rename files in there. so i use Asus file manager to rename. for the pictures or whatever you don't want shown, Quick pic works perfectly to hide whatever you don't want shown. I noticed GIF. don't animate in there also. they do in quickpic. but that's not a big deal for me. Other than that, I actually like the gallery app. its way better than my Ipad stock gallery app. I haven't came across another gallery only app. I'd be up for trying one. as long as its one that doesn't need to make duplicate copies to fill up its own gallery.

I use quickpic, I've always used quickpic so I'm not sure whichother I'd use
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
+1 on quickpic, you can do so much with it.
put folders the way you like them, move pics around easy and it makes any pic you look at nice and big.
i will never use anything else and ive tried a few.
I also use QuickPic. It is the best gallery app on Android, hands down. Not only is it super fast and responsive, but it is rock solid and has tons of file management and editing options that don't exist inside of the stock Gallery app.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=quickpic&c=apps
+1 on quickpic - however has anyone used the gallery app on MIUI 4??
I used it on my old desire hd, it was pretty nice!
Gave quickpix a try, it does everything i need. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
