Build 3.10xx kernel for MT65XX - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to build or port 3.10XX kernel for my HTC Desire 620G phone. My phone is not having any sources so, porting is the only option I'm having. Currently my phone has 3.4.67 kernel, I know that 3.4 is enough for mm and ll but still I want 3.10 kernel as many MTK devices are having it. Can anyone show me the porting process or suggest me a thread or website? I've seen one thread in xda it is under Galaxy Y section and it didn't work due to the ramdisk format which is different. I'm a rom porter so I'm aware of few things.

Upgrading Ported Custom ROM
Hello everyone here,
By following this thread so far, I've managed to port a custom ROM successfully for my device from existing Base ROM. Kudos to ArjunrambZ for this helpful thread for noobs like me. But both the ROMs are Android 4.1.1 . Now can anyone help me how to upgrade the version(Example: I want to upgrade to Android 4.4.4) of my Ported ROM? I googled a lot but I couldn't find anything useful/understandable for me. Thank you and thanks to KJ for pushing me in the right direction :cyclops:
ROM structure
Nice guide I haven't actually tried this yet but I have a few questions
As far as i knw porting means running a rom on a device for which it was not created
If this is the case why do we copy only specific folders (apps, fonts, media, framework) . from port rom to base rom? So there r still parts of original rom in new ported rom what is work of those parts? And what is work of parts we copied from port rom?
At 1st i thought the remain of base rom which we didn't replace is device specific i.e it contains drivers, etc am i correct?
Plus i have one more query what if i want to port a completely diff version port rom
For example i have a note 2 and i knw there won't be any lollipop release for it
So what if i want to port lollipop to my device since i have base rom as kitkat and port rom as lollipop, is it possible cross version porting?
Thanks
can i port to different android versions
I have xiaomi mi3 which has almost same SoC as nexus 5 so can i port nexus aosp rom ( android L) to my base Rom(4.4 AOSP)
can i use or follow whole of your method to port+upgrade my rom
i mean my baserom version is 4.2.2
but i want to port 4.4 rom on my device
is it possible
ADB is not detecting my device
after porting rom ADB is not detecting my device and it is showing different device name
so i can't connect with usb reverse tethering kind of app plz help !!
cant find any base rom
I have huawei mediapad 7 youth s7-701u cant find any rom for this device as a base rom what should i do i have the offical firmware
i want to port nokia x rom to my galaxy star pro will this method work
Will this porting method work to port a rom for same device but different carrier? I have a working CM12 rom for my device/carrier and want to port a different rom like Pac .

And the base rom which you are telling should be of cyanogenmod, but cyanogen is not available for my device! So what base rom should i take? thanks! and should the port be of the same type as the base? i mean like i have a base of cyanogen (just an example) and i have a port of miui then what should i do?
Help would be highly appreciated,

Can i port Omnirom 5.1.1 made for samsung galaxy s to samsung galaxy s duos
I tried your method and there were a few problems.
I took cosmic rom for galaxy s duos as the base rom.
I didnt see any set perm files in this base rom , so i could not copy.
Not many files were there in init.d of Omnirom 5.1.1 which i used as port rom as compared yo what you have shown in ur tutorial.
I still continued and zipped the rom and it was installed but ,NOW ITS STUCK ON BOOT!!!!!!
Its bricked , right ?
Where did i go wrong?
SAMSUNG GALAXY S DUOS AND SAMSUNG GALAXY S SEEM TO BE ALMOST SIMILAR IN SPECS.
So i still beleive i can port it.

Using a pre-built MTK6589/8389 kernel in a custom (Lollipop) ROM

I've got an old Lenovo S6000 which, like every other Mediatek device, has incomplete source code for the drivers and the kernel. As a small project, I would like to try and get Android Lollipop up and running to an extent where:
the system boots to the GUI;
the Wi-Fi works;
and the touchscreen works.
just to start off.
The device currently is rooted, with ClockworkMod recovery installed, and I can create Android back-ups of the system. Could I potentially take the kernel and the proprietary blobs and build them in to a CyanogenMod 12 update? Or would the kernel have to be patched to support the new features in Lollipop (the current OS running on the device is Android 4.2.2, and there have been no other working attempts to create a custom ROM for the device)?
Thanks,
George
Sir I want to know Mediatek 6589 3.4.5 kernel can be used with any custom lollipop ROM or it need development for doing that? what can be done to update device with latest android ROM, what is required for developing ROM and kernel? Do all Mediatek 6589 chipsets share same kernel? because sony has released the source code for 3.4.5 kernel but I don't know how to use it for development of new ROM with latest android, how cyanogen do that?

this is the link to xperia c 3.4.5 kernel source code. please check it sir.

Porting rom (Need help)

Hi, I need help in porting rom. My device is Lenovo A858(MT6732), Android version 4.4.4 , Kernel 3.10.48. I tried porting Lollipop rom to my device but no success got stuck in bootloop. But when i tried to port 4.4.4 it booted. and the only bug it has is camera. I am trying to port lollipop rom to my device. Some says it's possible to port Lollipop to kitkat. I have seen lollipop kernel versions are 3.10.67. Is that because of my kernel version? I have seen one cm13 rom that it has kernel version of 3.10.48 but different chips(MT6582) Someone guide me thx a lot

Help me build source for my device

I'm having a mt6592 HTC Desire 620G device, it is not having sources in github to build a custom recovery or rom, sure we can port roms and I did it but porting has few drawbacks too so, can anyone help me how to make our own sources as there as sources in github for devices which are not having sources. My main problem is due to lack of sources I can't build TWRP as TWRP can't be ported, if ported touch screen doesn't work due to kernel(I think so). If I somehow integrate touch module into kernel then I can use TWRP on my device.
