I would like to add a button or modify one of the volume control buttons so I activate the home button on an Android device.
Basically it should scroll to the top of the page when I press the button.
Here is my SE question android.stackexchange.com/q/172334
Apologies I think I posted this in the wrong thread.

Its not as much as an issue but an enhancement. If there is a guide demonstrating how should I modify my question please link.
I do not have a rooted device but I am looking to by some Nexus model. I own a Moto G and a Le Pan tablet which are both fairly old although still work.
At this point a way to get this working on any device would be a start. I do not plan to buy a rooted device unless someone has a slight idea how to do this.

Hello, I just found this:

which comes from this:

And I wonder if would it be possible to implement something like this on our beloved optimus one?, since it would be really cool to use volume or power buttons to shoot the camera, or maybe it could be the search button IDK, but any of theese would be nicer and more comfortable than tapping the onscreen button to shoot.
Of course I'm just a basic user and not a developer so I have no clue how hard would it be to do it.
Well, if you are a developer and you would contribute to our community with a mod like this, THANK YOU!
I've mentioned it on another topic, way back, many months ago...
Suggested that the key that HAS to be used for camera, is search button !!
By far the most practical way!
No developers found since then....
;S that's a shame, maybe it is not possible or developers don't read general forum... at least they could reply with a "there's no way to do that" or something
And yes, search button would be the best option

If you want the search key to function like the camera button here's what I did.
1. CM7 Settings edit search key to open Camera.
2. In Camera press your menu settings and go advance.
3. Press Use Settings Button for camera.
and what about froyo ?
the volume buttons are too ahrd. even if this is implemented taking pictures will not be easy and there will be alot of blur.

Any other ideas you guys? I know lg optimus one xda developers forum community has great coders and developers and everything we need to see this implemented is some of them to get interested in doing it.
Still waiting...

Even the volume keys would be more comfy that pressing and releasing the onscreen button, but as it is stated before the best option is the search button.

I have read on internet about so many people suggesting rooting phone and probably installing some APKs just to take screenshot of any screen on Android phone. And I believe lot of people don't know this -
How to take screenshot on an Android Phone?
Ans -> Press power button (mostly present on top of phone) and keeping it pressed, quickly press "Home" touch key on front screen. That's it. That's all you needed to take screenshot. Image is saved in Gallery folder of your phone.
This pretty much works in Gingerbread and ICS, if not other versions of Android.
Hope people find this info useful, for those who dont know yet.
Enjoy!!!
Not necessary!
In my phone, Galaxy SL, you need to press Back button + Home Button for taking a screenshot!

all those articles mentioning of installing APK or rooting is because of the fact that NOT ALL phones with OS version less then 2.3 provide taking screenshot functionality out of box. This is now changed with 4.0 OS version. ALL phones having OS version 4.0 WILL HAVE ability to take screenshot out of box.

Press the Back button in right bottom and hold it. While holding Back button now press Home button in the middle. You will hear a capture sound and in moment it will appear Screen captured. Save as image file
That's not true. It also works in Gingerbread 2.3
People just don't know this fact.

I have no idea how to change an existing ROM to do that, but if you're willing to change ROMs I know that codefireX allows for custom hardware button settings.

I was baffled for a moment, then realized I'm in the wrong forums. I thought I was in my phone's forums. Sorry about that.
Yes, I know the LG G3 has the ability to capture screens 3 ways already.. but lets face it.. None are as easy as the gesture of the Samsung Galaxy S3, just "karate chop" or 'knife-edge swipe' across the screen and viola! It's captured.
Is there any way to add such a gesture to the G3? Not being an android programmer I have NO CLUE what it would take to do this..But I am sure someone might know how, and that others may want a simple, gesture driven screen capture.
Just a thought.
That was a feature I dug quite a bit on the S3 as well. I know nothing about programming either so I'll just keep my eye on this thread.
You may get better feedback and responses if you put this question in http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/help
anyone else get excited when there was a post in the Original android development thread? Sigh........
I just hold the home screen button or the power button then select the option

This thread has nothing to do with Android Development. Just a feature request.

Hello and welcome to XDA Q&A section of the Forum.
A quick Google search brought me this, since you have root, it should work, and also since you only have one button, you can assing it to long press = menu key.
If I helped, hit "thanks".

The problems is that my phone: ZUK Z2 Pro, only has one button at the center, but I'm going to test this.
I was thinking in edit apk or something like that, to enable: MENU BUTTON. In my Motorola Moto G3 I have a Menu Button in the corner.
Thanks so much, when I test, if work I will say you. Regards
