Motorola Backflip MotoBlur deactivation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This may seem stupid, but I liked the Motorola Backflip. I decided to give it another try this week, as I have an old one lying around. Just thought it'd be a fun throwback. Anyway, I stupidly decided to do a factory reset, and now the phone is asking for me to sign into a motoblur account. The problem: motoblur no longer exists. There is no running server for the phone to verify the account with, so I have no way of using the phone. Anyone know if there's a way to bypass this? I'm not too worried about bricking this device, as it was already pretty much just a paperweight, but it annoys me that I can't even unlock it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Motorola service account error?

I dug out my old backflip and decided to start it up again. I used the same blur account that's currently on my atrix.
The problem now is that I'm constantly getting this orange star shaped notification saying Motorola service account error.
When I click on it I get the message saying the account you're using is associated with another device. Please contact customer care to reset the device.
I don't think it really affects anything, but it gets pretty annoying.
Anyone ever had the same problem? I kinda doubt art customer care can do much about it except tell me to factory reset the phone...
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
i did the exact same thing..you have to factory reset
Too Funny.
Exactly the same thing here. Backflip and all.
What I am wondering if somehow I could either clear Data or Cache using Tenfars CWM and somehow not lose my other stuff, like wallpapers and tones?
Or maybe possibly just an edit in the system files that will disable that dumb as heck orange star would even be better... Anyone have any ideas on good places to start looking using something like Root Explorer?
I fully expect to hear a "What part of Factory Reset don't you understand?" type answer. But just in case there is a good way to do this. I'm taking the chance.
Yup same problem....
I fixed this by using (unofficial) cyanogenmod on the backflip... no blur? yes please that thing zooms now. crap 3d still, but still makes me wonder what the atrix would be like without blur

[Q] eclipse 1.3 corporate email issue

I have ran some searches and such before making this post, but trying to determine if anything is going on in this rom for this kind of email, i have went all weekend without my work email it worked no problems before switching to liberty, and now to eclipse, i really enjoy this rom but must have work email. it goes to setup everything like normal, just wont authenticate at all.. i know my user and pass like the back my hand so its not that, i also know my server information as well, i am really decent on pc, just been trying to adventure out in phones.. anyone else having this vague problem on x2 using roms? yes its rooted, and rom is setup correctly. i have tried 2-3 flashes and still cant thru.

What are you using for your email client? I've used Lotus Notes Traveler (i know, yuck - no choice) on Liberty, Eclipse and Molten and haven't had a problem with any of them. The initial sync may take awhile depending on how large your inbox is and such. With Traveler, at least, it does some sort of authentication with the first sync and will report connection errors until it makes it through the first time. I had to wait forever until i decided to do some housekeeping in my inbox (long overdue) and tell it to sync only 1-weeks worth of history...
well i got with my IT guy from a different state and we are able to figure it out, had to get some file out of the way dont remember exactly how it was blocking it but he also roots and roms his phones so knew generally what was going on. i do appreciate the insight for sure, thats why i cam here was to find some insightfulness before actually having to tell the IT guy i was messing around haha, but gladly he was understandable telling me he's almost bricked numerous phone by always trying new stuff. i really wish i knew what we deleted so that way i could post it on here, and see if it would help anyone else or so the dev's could take a peek, maybe was my phone but i know i did full wipe before flashing so kind of hard to say, but again thanks i know noobs will be noobs but i also know forums and how to look before asking! im on overclock.net and such for pc and understand the aspects of what to ask and where! haha
Im rooted running Eclipse 1.3 and I have no problems with my corporate email... we do have our own exchange server here in IT so that may be a difference... I can even wipe my entire phone from my web accessed exchange email.....

As an IT guy myself, i think screwing around with technology is in our blood. You should ask him, see if he remembers, i would also be interested in knowing what your actual issue was. I had problems that seemed to surface at one point with the Blur email, it wouldn't authenticate. It seemed to work for a while but one day... It never seemed to be an issue with eclipse however because I could set additional parameters that allowed for security etc.

[Q] Got new phone, trouble rooting

So here's my story, I am not entirely new to rooting as I have successfully rooted my Motorola Droid, My Droid X2, My Acer Iconia a500 (twice), My aunts Lg something, and my mothers Kindle Fire.
So a few days ago my Droid X2 started acting up, and would go hours on end sometimes without working.
I was very happy to find out that Verizon would replace it with no hassle as it was less than a year old. I got the replacement yesterday and it's working great... that is until I found out it came stock with 2.3.5 right out of the box.
Now I have always trusted XDA forums and have used them for a long time (although I finally just registered today to ask this)
The only root method I can find is to downgrade to 2.3.4 and then root, then install voodoo root protector, then upgrade.
Now I saw a few things about possibilities of bricking your phone when trying to read those tutorials (I have never had to downgrade before) and I was a bit concerned.
I was mainly wondering, I don't care about loosing data on the phone. I have a backup sd card I can use if I need to format that, and like I said, the phone is new and actually doesnt have a single app I have installed on it yet.
Is there any easy way to go back down to 2.3.4 for my situation? I just got the free phone and don't want to brick it a day later you know?
From what I gather, you can SBF back down to 2.3.4 with no problem. There may be a certain way you have to do it though. I have never been on stock 2.3.5 so I cant tell you from experience. But Everyone says it's possible.
That's my question in a nutshell
Yeah, I read a tutorial about how to do it using RSDlite, which I downloaded to my comp.
Now what I'm cautious about is white file to use. One of the tutorials had one, now while I know a tiny bit about rooting I know NOTHING about flashing it back, I wasn't sure if there was a way that this could screw up my phone, as it seems everything tested is with a phone that had already been rooted, or if there is anything phone specific in that file, or even if it actually is an OTA original (I'd rather not mess around with anything customized right now)
Whatever is the easiest method for getting be back down, I know how to take it from there as I've done it before.
Thanks for the response though!

So you have never used an SBF file? If you would have used it on your broken Droid X2 when it wasnt acting right, it might have fixed your phone. An SBF file simply wipes everything of your phone (excluding your SD card) and flashes brand new software on it. The SBF files are provided by Motorola so its not like you are using something made by a dev and can break your phone easily. You should be able to use RSD lite to flash the 2.3.4 SBF file and you should be fine. But then again, I have never SBF'd from 2.3.5 to 2.3.4 personally so I would feel bad saying go ahead with no worries and something bad happen. So wait for someone else to respond first.
Thanks!
Thanks for that info!
Also, I doubt that would have fixed my old phone, it seems pretty much like a hardware issue. The screen will display static for hours on end (think like an old tv if you didnt have cable plugged in) I think it's a loose connection somewhere or something. I didn't bother to really troubleshoot it myself though because I was like "lets see if Verizon will give me a new one" and they did, and because they didnt have any "replacements" i got a brand new one, with a brand new battery, so I wasn't going to argue the fact
Anyway, if the file is from Motorola where can I get it? I saw on a verizon forum that they were not allowed to post it there (or is it "from motorola" in the sense it was leaked?)
Thanks for all your help so far, you've been great!

Yeah, it does sounds like it was a hardware problem. Actually, I never thought about if motorola had a list of sbf files somewhere or if they were just leaked or what. I always downloaded them from threads like these. I just know they are made by motorola. You got me curious now. hmmm...
Duh
forget about my question as to where to get them, just saw the sticky at the front of this forum.
Although, it would be interesting to know if they were officially given out by motorola or leaked

What's An SBF File?
• SBF Is A File Leaked By Motorola That Is The System Image Flashed By RSDLite.

Found Samsung A51, did a hard reset, but original owner's lock is on it

I'm currently working at a sandwich joint in Garden Grove, near my house, and there was this Samsung A51 phone that has been there for over 8 months now, apparently someone left it in the bathroom awhile back and never came back to claim it, so the manager challenged everyone to unlock it, whoever unlocks it, keeps it, simple ja? Well, it was a 3 x 3 dot lock, and there are over 200,000 answers to crack it, so he gave it to me because everyone gave up on attempting to unlock it. Upon bringing it home, I erased the entire data, in case I might unlock it and accidently stumble upon the previous owner's data. I then went around on Youtube on how to unlock it (since the original owner's Sprint SIM card is still on there, and his/her pin), and I got nothing. So now, I'm left with a clean phone with the previous owner's lock on it, and I'm trying to unlock it so I can clean off their data so I can claim it (Since I could use a new phone anyway), note, I've already did a hard reset on it, so there is no trace of the original owner's data on it except their pin and gmail on it. Is there anyway I can unlock it, and 100 percent clean it so I can claim it? Thanks

I'm not going to help you unlock that. Maybe someone else will? I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but here's my 2¢ about this.
Personally I wouldn't keep the phone, and I definitely wouldn't try activating it. If the original owner reported it stolen, then police will be knocking on your door within a few hours of trying to activate it. The honest thing to do, and what someone should've done 8 months ago, is turn the phone over to a Sprint store. They would've been able to contact the owner and get it back to them. The owner probably didn't come looking for it because they didn't remember that they left it there, or it was stolen from them. I also think it's really sh*tty to wipe someone else's device. Very important information or irreplaceable data could've been on it. Not everyone backs up their data on a regular basis. Again, I'm really not trying to give you a hard time. I understand why you did it, and I've been guilty of doing the same in my younger years. I just want you to know, there's much better ways to handle this kind of thing in the future.

Eaiser said than done. I'm gonna return it though, knowing the fact the police wouldn't knock on my door, considering the manager left it on for awhile and everyone attempting to unlock it already, now then, how do I explain to them I wiped out one of their phone's hard drive clean? I tell them I found it like that or sumthin?

I wouldn't say anything. Just drop it off and say that it was left at your work. They only know as much as you tell them. ;-)

Okay, one more thing before I actually give it to them, awhile back, I put on my gmail as an attempt to link it with the phone, and once I realized nothing can be done, I did a hard reset, any way my gmail is still linked to the phone, or its still clean without any traces of my info on it?

Please help if possible

I have an old AT&T Asus 9020A tablet. I got them new years ago thru my phone plan with AT&T. It wasn’t used much and is like new still.
Anyway, I take care of my mother and she likes games and painting by numbers on her iPad but she broke it and screwed up her charging port. I want to fix this tablet up for her.
I bet it wasn’t used 2 months and was just forgotten….I looked it up and completed a factory reset on it and wiped it clean. So I was trying to set it up and get her to painting again! It’s bout to kill her not having it..lol
I was setting it up and it wants the old email associated that was used to set it up. There is no way to remember that or even get it. I asked my daughter, she don’t remember. Anyway, are there any way I can use (reset) this tablet not knowing the old email that was associated with it? Where I can fix her up for her or am I just wasting my time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
So it is FRP locked?

It’s not locked. It reset ever And started the initial setup as if it was new. It just wants the old gmail for some reason before it will accept the new one. It lets me start in the setting up her account on it but is asking for the old email for verification….. I don’t have it and there is no way to remember it unfortunately. I know they are there to keep folks from stealing them and that’s great. But 10 years later…LOL Is this possible?
what you describe (verify device with google account) is called FRP lock (factory reset protection). this is same on most/all official android devices to render device useless on theft.
however, the unofficial by-pass methods vary for each device model/android version. search on YouTube.
