Unofficialy unlocked bootloader - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

What makes the bootloader lock itself when flashing firmware on unofficially unlocked bootloader?
I have found some firmware which remove emmc_appsboot.mbn, but according to other users you need to update that too.
So what I want to know is what happens when I flash a firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn removed. Will it be the same as when officially unlocked phones flash a firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn?
Is there any downside to removing emmc_appsboot.mbn?

emmc_appsboot.mbn is the bootloader. If you did not remove that, it will flash a Marshmallow bootloader. The problem is it will relock your bootloader if you're on Lollipop bootloader. Doing the unofficial unlock method means you're on Lollipop bootloader.
Relocking your bootloader while not on MIUI could be a problem so don't flash any firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn if you've unlocked unofficially. Right now no one knows a method to update to MM bootloader without unlocking officially.
Latest Lineage OS(and those based of of it) needs Marshmallow bootloader to work(otherwise bootloop).

Try official unlock Just wait for one week after applying. Because you will always need the latest firmware to work smoothly on any custom rom . Using patch emmc_appsboot.mbn will keep you stuck at the old miui rom only

I did try Official unlock alot of Times, but it never worked for me so I unlocked unofficially instead. Is there any rom you need to be on? Live dev miui or something?

You can't check what bootloader you have but if you did the unofficial unlock then you're definitely on LP bootloader.
Firmware is whatever the last MIUI ROM or standalone Firmware you've flashed.
You needed to be on latest MIUI dev to unlock officially.
If you're on Kate though, then doing this doesn't seem to cause problems when flashing the latest LOS. Can't guarantee the same for kenzo though.

How to flash latest miui on UL LP bootloader
I've unlocked my bootloader unofficially and can't flash any new ROM. How can i go back to MIUI to get MM bootloader without any problem of boot loops?

Can I still flash Custom Roms/Kernels in my Re-locked Bootloader Redmi Note 3 (Kate)?

Hi Everyone, before anything else, my Kate was officially unlocked bootloader with zcx twrp and MIUI 8 ver8.1.1.0.
Did not flash anything except RADON kernel (latest version) but to my surprise, my bootloader was re-locked.
I did not try yet to unlock again as I think it is with benefit that my phone again is secured.
My question now is, will I still be able to flash custom kernels & ROMS with the status of my device?
I think the answer is no because on my kenzo unit the device refuses to boot third-party binary when bootloader is locked. Anyway, try it by yourself to verify.
I Also got my BL unlocked officially, and it got locked in the same day after flashing thestrix firmware. I don't have any problems flashing custom ROMs and kernels. I'm using LineageOS from minz1, and before that(with BL locked) I was on NitrogrenOs. I Also have radon kernel.

[HELP] Kenzo stuck on Boot on latest Nougat ROMS.

I have observed that my RN3 kenzo is not able to boot on any Nougat ROM built after 2nd april.
I have tried the following ROMS :
1. XenonHD (2nd and 7th april builds - Working fine)
2. Xenon HD 5th May - STUCK ON BOOT
3. Nitrogen OS - STUCK ON BOOT (I dont remember the build date but I downloaded it in april )
4. Resurrection Remix 3rd May - STUCK ON BOOT
5. Cosmic OS - 6th May - STUCK ON BOOT
All the installations were clean flashes. Installed CM14.1_Firmware_kenzo_12.04.2017, still no luck.
What is the reason behind this ? How Can I solve it ?

my bootloader is unlocked.
I installed an older build of XenonHD and it is working fine. All the newer builds are getting stuck.
Edit : Unofficially unlocked.
Flash latest firmware from Official LOS thread and flash your rom. Here is the direct link https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634767927
And Read this.
Some nougat roms won`t boot if you don`t format data after you`ve flashed the rom. So try this: if you are coming from miui, you don`t need to flash any firmware, then wipe system+data+dalvik cache+cache, install rom+gapps and last thing, Format Data (you`ll find it under advanced wipe) and reboot to system. Save your files to sdcard or computer before do that, because this will erase all internal storage, but twrp will remain.

This.
Some of the Newer ROMs need MM bootloader. If you've unofficially unlocked then that means you're on LP bootloader.
Try Flashing the latest MIUI dev ROM and unlocking officially.
Yeah that's exactly what @bloodytolits said flash the latest developer rom i think the Chinese roms get unlocked easily so you can go with it until you unlocked officially then you don't need to flash any firmware again your already on the latest then flash the rom and your ready to go good look

Most of the latest ROMs only works on firmwares 7.5.4 - 7.6.7. I don't know if they already changed that. So you can install(and unlock) MIUI dev 7.5.4 - 7.6.7 or the latest and just flash the 7.5.4 - 7.6.7 firmware afterwards before trying to flash any custom rom.
Most people says it should be dev ROM, as I haven't officially unlocked mine I don't know. I'm using Kate and following this guide, you won't really need to officially unlock. I can't guarantee if this would work on kenzo though.

[HELP] Unlock Bootloader Officially On Non-MIUI ROM

Hello XDA Kenzo community! I unlocked my device's bootloader unofficially by flashing modified emmc_appsboot.mbn from MIUI Lollipop. I will try to flash TheStrix's firmware, which has the untouched MM bootloader over my current ROM which is RR Marshmallow. My question is, can I unlock the untouched bootloader via MiUnlock even if my phone's ROM is non-MIUI or should the ROM be MIUI8? Thanks in advance.

You will be able to unlock using miunlock provided you have official premission to unlock(i.e. if you have unlocked BL using miunlock previously).

Nougat roms are giving bootloop

Yesterday I have unlocked the bootloader of my redmi note 3 snapdragon version and then installed latest twrp.

Of make sure you backup everything in internal storage
I too experienced the same thing.
Try flashing the firmware by The Strix in the official LOS 14.1 thread.
Keep in mind, it wil Re Lock your bootloader and the rom will not boot at first, you gotta re lock it before you can do anything.

Firstly flash the firmware then the required Nougat rom, Reboot the system. The phone will not boot at first, from there go to Fastboot mode. Unlock the bootloader using mi unlock tool. After the unlocking completes, the phone will Reboot. Go to recovery. Flash the roms as usual.

How to return to stock ?

Hi,
I have 2 RN3P, both running a custom rom.
One has an unlocked bootloader and another has a locked bootloader.
I'm looking to sell these phones.
I would like to know how can I return to a COMPLETELY stock rom, meaning NO TWRP, locked BL, etc.
I'd prefer not triggering ARB.
Could anyone please tell me which firmware to flash and which method to us ? TWRP or MiFlash ?
I'm ok with using an older firmware too, I just need to return the phone to factory condition.
Thanks for any help.

Download and Flash this fastboot stable rom for kenzo .
For unlocked bootloader u can flash using mi flash and fastboot mode.
For locked bootloader u need to put phone in EDL mode and flash using miflash.

okay bro?
ARB is not implemented for RN3. So don't worry, just flash latest fastboot ROM from official website (http://en.miui.com/a-234.html) using Mi Flash (clean and lock) and you will be good to go.
I have done it a few times, haven't faced any problem even for a single time

you can try this method :https://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Download global Stable rom( I flashed DEV last month and it worked for me) if you are form India. If miui flash tool doesnt detect your phone in EDL mode, use miflashtool 20160830 / https://androidmtk.com/download-xiaomi-mi-flash-tool
Please use caution and do it at your own risk . I reverted my phone to DEV fastboot ROM & locked bootloader to getaway from ZCX TWRP issues.
My issue is resolved.
I used the oldest rom I could find (marshmallow).
I used MiFlash, fasboot for unlocked bootloader and EDL mode for locked bootloader.
Thanks for the help everyone!
