Hi all.
After a battery mod(I adapted a s7 battery instead of the original)i no more have satellites view in gps status apps. Strange thing is that nav apps seems to fix signal but it's only net localization, unuseful to navigate. The gps hardware seems to be detected by the system so I think it coud be antenna problem. I already tried all fixing apps and to disassemble partially the logic board but I really don't understand where connectors and antenna gps are inside. Some helps please? Thanks in advance:good:

Hello, I was using GPS a lot during summer on official ROM, but after summer, when I stopped using it, I've managed to switch to custom ROM. I wasn't using GPS, so I didn't know that it isn't working. Now, I tried many ROMs, including the official one flashed via KDZ. Nothing is working, so what should I do? I have fast fix, but when I start moving, even if it is 2-3meters the GPS goes nuts and lose the signal:crying:. Any advice please?
I had this. Unfortunately, was not software related in my case (although I also flashed a lot of ROMs). The sat fix was fast, but very unstable in movement, rendering navigation software useless.
Turned out the culprit was bad contact between GPS antenna and the mainboard.
The workaround: removing the battery cover, apply pressure over the GPS antenna (like trying reseat it). I made it several times, but if you try this (at least, you will see if your issue is the same as mine), please be VERY careful, or you will end up with a broken screen glass, or mainboard.
The stability improved 90%, but the precision is not the same as new (but I can use Google Navigation and tomtom again).
I downloaded the service manual, the correct is disassembly the unit and check the contacts, but I don't have that tiny philips screwdriver. Time to leave the unit in a Service Center, and get the contacts cleaned/checked.
PS: The GPS unit in this litle beast is very sensitive, but LG's quality control in assembly probably is to blame.
Thank you, I will try it when I will have a chance .
EDIT: Didn't worked, I will try it again tommorow... or send it to the service

EDIT: I think that I overpressed it, because it can't find any satelites and when I start any app that is using GPS, the gps icon doesn't appear... I'm so stupid . So, only chance now is to buy a new antena or go to the service.

My god! Sorry about that...
But are you sure the gps hardware is activated (in Settings?).
In software (ex: GPS Test), status is showing "No GPS"?
I've just edited my post, it's ROM issue (stock ROM shows the icon and about 5 satellites, but the CM doesn't show the icon and I can't get any satellite), the gps still sucks
My 2nd post with this accound but ive been a member for qutie a while but was inactive for a few years and cant recover my account.
Anyhow i bought a Timmy E86 . Its pretty cheap but pretty good apart from the GPS
It has the mediatek 6582 chip.
Ive been through just about every mediatek gps fix.

When i got the phone GPS signal was non existant. even after using many different gps fix apps.
I then discoverd that without the cover on and the antenna peeled back i managed to get signal, put cover back on and signal goes. So the cover is blocking signal.
I extended the antenna with a make shift foil antenna, which improved the signal slightly and allowed signal with the cover on. Great thinking its fixed, however navigation was terrible, loosing signal and the heading facing wrong way.
Then it lost all signal again after a restart and woukldnt get signal again randomly until smoe while later. Satilites show but zero signal.
The antenna is rubbish on this phone,
I know this is probably the main source of the problem, i plan on remove the case cleaning the contacts and installing a better antenna, either made of copper tape or perhaps something else.
But im pretty sure theres something else wrong deeper down in the software.
I done some further testing yesterday managed to get gps signal and 3d fix. Since i was being a passanger rather than driver i could see what was gong on. as soon as we started moving the satilite signals would drop to 0.....

Finally tracked the issue down to really poor GPS antenna.
Remoived it, replaced it with bare copper wire from a power cord , made sure it was well twisted so all the strands were together and neat.
Used the end of the GPS antanna that contacted the board and soldered it to the the pad of the old gps antanne end, so that when the case went back in it contacted the board pin.
Success. GPS lock indoors at a window and still picking up satilites away from window but not enough for lock.
Until i screwed everything back together and tried to put the back on, the cable was too thick and it pushed the board. GPS signal no longer works.
Even tried replacing with thinner cable and solering direct to board but same result. satalites in view but no signal, not even outside now.
Guess ive either burned out the gps somewhere or something on the board got damaged from the cable pushing on it. Even removed the SMD contact pin and soldered wire directly onto the board. Still nothing

Given up on getting this to work. either ive broken something in the gps or the phones setup has went iffy.
Satilites are apparently in view but dont ever get a signal from any, all 12 satalites sit there with zero signal even outdoors.
The easy solution?
Use my old phone that can get a lock inside next to a window as a bluetooth GPS reciever. Using Bluetooth GPS output, and then the bluetooth GPS app on my timmy phone.
Result? Perfect navigation using Tom Tom GO. This is actually a much better solution since the phones GPS is off its using much less power. My old phone is an alcatel one touch which is pretty good for battery even with gps on plus with the screen off doesnt need charged while using it for hours as gps+bluetooth.
Another advantage, i can have a gps app open on old phone for speed and have a GPS speedometer running while navagation running on my larger timmy e86.
My recomendation is just get a bluetooth GPS reciever if your gps sucks.
Hi,
does anybody has an overview of the location of the several hardwarecomponents? Especially the GPS Chip and Antenna?
I replaced my Display and since that time I have big troubles getting a GPS fix, I can't see any loose connections, maybe knowing where the GPS Chip is can help me here.
Thanks
Hey folks,
since few days the GPS on my Honor 5x is completely not working anymore.
I downloaded the app GPS Status and tried to delete and update the satellite data but it didn't solve the problem.
The app is always showing around 18-22 visible satellites so i assume that the antenna not broken and the
reason has to be somewhere software based.
Unfortunately restarting the phone many times didn't change anything as well.
Today i realized that the warning, which appears if you cover the top front side of the phone, doesn't appear anymore.
Could this be an indicator, that there is still some hardware based reason?
Thank you in advice.
Help needed to fix poor WiFi and Bluetooth range.
Hello. I'm a mido user. My Redmi note 4 got dropped from my hand and the display got crack and my 4G ic chip got damaged too. I gave to a local store . They changed the display and changed the 4G ic chip also. It got fixed finely. But now I'm having a new problem after changing the display , that is my wifi and Bluetooth signal range has got reduced, usually Redmi note 4 wifi and Bluetooth range is up to 10 meters. But now I am having range of 1 meter only both in wifi and Bluetooth, I tried changing to custom ROM, resetting wifi and such software stuffs. But nothing worth. I have come to pick a decision that this problem is from hardware side maybe. Maybe the WiFi & Bluetooth combined antenna has got affected by them. Can anybody help me to figure out the real problem and a descriptive solution for this!?
Thanks in advance to all who will reply to me.
From the description of your problem, it is certain that there is indeed a hardware damage. Maybe when your phone is being repaired they don't install it properly / use a part that is already damaged or doesn't fit, maybe you should visit the place where you service your phone.
