Root Compatibilty with AT&T - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was curious if there was a list of the newer AT&T devices that are able to be rooted? It seems like a lot of sites list a phone, but when you try to root, it will be incompatible (like my LG G5.)
Doesn't seem like there will ever be a root for my LG G5 H820, so i wanted to start my search for a new device with compatibility; Like the LG V20, Galaxy S8, OnePlus 3, Nexus 6P, etc....
My ideal phone would be AT&T service, replaceable battery, expandable storage, and root-able.....but I'm sure I'm asking for a lot!!
Thanks everyone!

Phone camera query

Hi there.
I am planning on buying a new Android phone in place of my old ageing Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE. I'm choosing between the Nexus 5, HTC One (M7) and the Galaxy S4. A "third" option is the G2/G2 mini. One thing that is common to these phones are they all h have Snapdragon processors.
I want to ask about the cameras of these phones as regards the current, latest & most recent software update to them:
1. Which phone between the four you think boots up the quickest?
2. I wont be asking which ones takes the better photos of them all but rather...Are there any good alternative 1st-party or 3rd-party camera app I can install for my new phone?
Thank you.

Options For Cyangenmod/'Or At Least Root Access' on Boost Mobile Phones

So these three phones are the ones that are in my budget and I don't mind the looks of. I do at least need root access but would prefer Cyangenmod if possible. I can find root methods for them and see that Cyangenmod is available for at least one of them, but it appears as if it's all aimed towards AT&T. I specifically need Boost Mobile(Sprint). With these three phones, what are my options, if any?
LG K3
LG Tribute 5
LG X POWER
K3 - No root and definitely no CM.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/to-root-lg-k3-t3479758
Tribute 5 - Root on 5.1.1 is available. If it is an older version of 5.1.1 then you should be able to use the android app. If on newer, use the PC version. CM not available.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/rooting-lg-tribute-5-t3329597
LG X Power - Does not appear to have root available and definitely no CM.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/unofficial-lg-x-power-thread-t3474426
Main reason is that Boost has LG lock the bootloader and not many developers are interested in these devices that are on Sprint's network since it is different than the other variants sold to other carriers around the world.
Awsome, thanks for answering.:good::good:

LG G6 vs Honor 10

Hello,
can you tell me please which phone is better ?
Im deciding about this two phones.
I love this notch display, but the LG G6 has IP68 and i think better support with android and custom roms.
I recommend Honor 10.
It is a newer phone and has more power under the hood. Also, Huawei provides better support for its devices and more timely security updates. My daughter's Honor 6x has the Junes patch while my G6+ is till on January's.

"Huawei provides better support for its devices" - Simply, no.
"[...] more timely security updates" - It's true but only for the newest flagships. They stopped updating my last phone after a year.

I had a same issue last week trying to decide wheather to pick up LG G6 or Honor 10.
Honor 10 is a newer phone has more storage and a newer processor which means it will be faster. It also has a new slick look with barely any bezels although LG G6 has similiar screen to body ratio. LG G6 on the other hand has SD card support and IP68 and also is a last year flag ship phone(even though it was the slowest of flagships last year)
I have never owned a Huawei so I don't know how they handle updates for their phones but I believe both Honor and LG G6 should be updated to Android 9 in the future.
In the end I went with LG G6 mostly due to sd card support, IP68 and ability to unlock bootloader and flash custom roms. As far as I know Huwaei has recently stopped providing official ways to unlock bootloaders in their phones which means that there won't be many if any custom roms for Honor.(You might want to post this in Honor 10 forums to confirm that).
if you are confused with G6 and P10 or P20 my answer was pretty obvious: P10 or P20 was better than G6, but talking about Honor, well, G6 have better features and allow custom rom's and so on...things if you like you gonna miss with Honor 10.
overall Honor can have a better speaker, a better and more pleaseble screen but in the end G6 win for the amazing camera and sd card support.
Honor 10 no OIS no IP68 dust/water proof (up to 1.5m for 30 mins), MIL-STD-810G compliant
that was my point to pick G6 over Honor 10
if the look and compact size your first and last priority then pick honor 10
Everything except g6
Lg is a lier and i recommend you don't buy any lg product.
I bought Honor 10. guys thanks for nice advices

SUGGESTION: Best cheap android phone with custom rom and working camera+radios

Hi All,
I'm an engineer looking to upgrade a product which uses an old Altel smartphone. I'm experienced in Unlocking and flashing. I have already done a search, but now in 2020, there may be new info.
Looking for suggestions for the best CHEAP android phone which has good custom ROM support for android 7+ (ish).
I need to use the back camera, and connect via wifi, bluetooth, or Cellular Data. It will be tested in the US, but may benefit from support for many globally common 3g and 4g bands.
One last thing. Would love to find something I can still buy a few dozen of NEW, or at least MFG REFURB.
Can anyone suggest suitable phones? So far, been considering late nexus line and early pixel line, knowing they're flash unlockable.
Thank you for reading! Apologies if I hit the wrong section of the forum.

There are no *NEW* cheap phones that have custom ROM support unfortunately. But used phone are an option : ) If you want official ROM support (Even to this day!), you can get a Samsung Galaxy S4 for 50$, an S5, Note 3 (Android 9 - 10 support!).
If you want a used phone at 100-150$, you can get a A5 2017, Google Pixel 1, Nexus 6 (Don't buy the 6p)
If you want to get a Brand new phone: Moto G7 and G6 Plus (200-250$). (Theese phones have a more complicated process of modding)
You can check the Lineage OS download Page here: https://download.lineageos.org/ Theese are all of the supported devices.
If you don't want to have any difficulties, you can get a Samsung but be careful with the variants! Get the international or Canadian variant because if you get a US variant, there are no methods of unlocking the device (except for the S5 and less) You can also get the Google Pixel, but do not buy the US variant. Same for the nexus devices...
Your knowledge and help are much appreciated.
Can you offer advice on USB OTG Compatibility with various phones on Lineage? I've had mixed results in the past with stock ROMs.

All of the phones I mentioned have OTG capability
Probably almost all phone supported by lineage have OTG. Don't worry about that.

I have 2 Samsung Galaxy S3 ( circa 2012 ) and while they are far from new, they are great phones to play around with.
I am far from experienced, but I have enjoyed flashing Custom ROM's , from CyanogenMod, thru various versions of Lineage, and now CrDroid. The newest O/S that I flashed is CrDroid 3.8.9 ( based on Android 7.1.2 - I think! ). Runs great. Stable. Long battery life. Ran ( 'right out of the box' ) without any need to install Gapps.
The nice thing is the Samsung Galaxy S3 is so darn abundant. Seems that everybody has one collecting dust in a drawer. And that means they are cheap ( as in give it away ). All the Samsung Galaxy S3 came with unlocked bootloader ( I think that is the term ) except for the Verizon model.
Icing on the cake is, a fellow from Montreal, alexenferman, is the genious authour of the CrDroid Custom ROM.

G5 SE / H840 AOD Question

I've just bought a H840, I forgot to check before I bought it if it was a H850! Shame that there's no alternatives to the 7.x stock ROM, makes me wonder why LG never rolled out Oreo for it. Anyways, the phone is in very good condition so I'm not too upset & will use it as my daily phone while I do some custom work on my older H850.
I have a question about the H840 and wondered if anyone can help:
The Always On Display on the H840 does not have the 'Advanced' option to switch the AOD off according to a schedule. Does anyone know if it's possible to port the H850 AOD app to the H840?
Thanks
Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with the H840. But I suppose you could try it and find out. If you have any way to extract the app from the H850 (or from some stock firmware floating around), of course matching android version. With that said the two models are different enough spec wise I wouldn't expect it to work.

I've installed APK extractor from the Play Store & will see how it goes. There are other AOD apps, but would be nice to use the LG version if possible.
